Cory Booker went on The Rachel Maddow Show Monday to continue his damage control efforts.
As you've no doubt heard, the Newark mayor went on NBC's Meet the Press Sunday and described as "nauseating" the Obama campaign's attacks on Bain Capital -- the private equity firm Mitt Romney ran -- for its record of laying off workers at the companies it acquired. Booker later tried to walk the comments back, but the Romney campaign and its allies pounced on them in an effort to undermine the Obama camp's attack.
Here's a quick rundown of what Booker said to Rachel:
On whether the Bain attack is really fair game: "When [Romney] says, I'm a job creator, I think that's a characterization of his record that deserves inquiry, and I think the way the president himself is talking about is something I will defend, in fact something I will echo."
On the RNC's effort to exploit Booker's comments by launching an "I Stand With Cory Booker" petition: "Here they are plucking soundbytes out of that interview to manipulate them in a cynical manner, to use them for their own purposes ... I'm very upset that I'm being used by the GOP this way."
On his support for President Obama on the issues: Anybody in the GOP who wants to stand with me, please stand with me. Stand with me for marriage equality, as Barack Obama stands up for. Stand with me for not turning the clock back on women in terms of medical issues, like Barack Obama is standing again. Stand with me on making healthcare more accessible to all. Stand with me for making college more affordable as President Obama is doing."
On his history with Obama: "I've been standing for Barack Obama before most peope were standing for Barack Obama, as one of his earliest supporters in New Jersey, his first major political endorsement."
On whether he was strong-armed into tonight's appearance by the Obama camp: "They have never pressured me to do anything ... I certainly did talk with campaign officials but they didn't force me to do anything. Especially after hearing the president's remarks on this issue, where he was not condemning all of private equity, he was not condemning any particular firms, he was focusing in on a guy who's bragging about his job creation record -- all of those things made me say, you know what, I need to go on and clarify."
On his own mistake of comparing the Obama campaign's attacks on Bain with conservative attacks on Obama over Jeremiah Wright: "Those can't even be equated. The noxious nature of some of the attacks that we've seen on our president, where if you even poll many people in the GOP who still believe he's a secret Muslim and these other things, it's gotten ridiculous. You can't even equate the negativity on the right with what's happening by sectors on the left."
On what he was really trying to say on Meet the Press: "My outrage and really my frustration was about the cynical negative campaigning and manipulating of the truth [on both sides]."
On the GOP's lack of interest in urban issues: "To say I stand with Cory Booker -- I have not seen a Republican national candidate, with maybe the exception of Jack Kemp a long time ago, willing to stand with me in places like Newark, New Jersey, Camden, New Jersey, Paterson -- places that often the GOP seems to want to imagine don't exist."
Of course, none of this is likely to discourage Republicans from gleefully continuing to use Booker's unfortunate remarks as a way to undermine the Obama campaign's attacks on Romney and Bain. In many ways, from Team Obama's point of view, the damage may already have been done.

Like anybody cares Msnbc, this is not news. We don't care about this type of BS.
Agree, @Hardcoffee: What baloney.
Mr. Booker was not misunderstood. He mis-underestimated the long reaching talons of his party : )
Oh right Booker, it's all the GOP's fault; I mean, they were there holding a gun at your head on Meet the Press, right?? And as for badmouthing the GOP for exploiting your big mouth....well, we all know the Dems would never pull such a dirty lousy trick if a Repub had shot his mouth off.... would they??
Hardcoffee if you didn't care, you wouldn't reply. Mkay? Thankssss
Booker is now in a "Dead End" job.
Nobody wants this poor guy anymore because he initially spoke the TRUTH. Amazing what a little pressure can do to sway Liberal folks to say something completely opposite.
Maybe he will change his political party to "Independent" next go around. It worked to Joe Lieberman and the voters fell for this tactic (LOL).
The Republican campaign headquarters should take a look at having Oprah give a 6 minute ad against Mr., AND Mrs., Obama since they threw her under the bus.
Chill out. Both sides jump on this kind of stuff mostly because the 24/7 media is desperate to report anything that might keep viewers attention.
Used to be people debated important things like whether we should go to war or not (WWII, Korea, Vietnam, Grenada, Bosnia), civil rights, equality for women. And today there are serious debates about the economy, gay marriage, and healthcare.
But those serious topics are often hidden by silly discussions of whether the Mayor of Newark really meant to say "nauseated" or not. Or silly commentary about an ad suggested by a Romney supporter that nobody wants to make. This is not important stuff.
Romney and his supporters have said some clunkers. Obama and his supporters have said some clunkers. That has happened in all campaigns throughout time. Get over it.
I happen to be a moderately liberal Democrat. I will probably support Obama. But I will still listen to Romney as he explains his vision for the country.
And I will continue to think that these kind of petty attacks are both silly and stupid no matter what candidate they target.
Booker is hardly "poor." Bain Capital donated $565,000 to Booker.
No MSNBC is not news, at least not like Faux Nooze, here they actually print and talk about both sides, not just lie to those listening trying to fake them onto their side. Go back to your Faux Nooze and learn more lies.
Booker just needs to learn how to shut his mouth.
The whole Booker flap is a perfect example of the inability of people to reason. Booker derided the people who say there is no room for venture capitalists. He said he was nauseated by the attack on venture capitalists as a general concept, as he knows there are effective outcomes possible and evident due to them. This wasn't even directed at the President, but to the SuperPACs. Mr. Booker had no problem with looking at Romney's Bain experience since Romney is basing his campaign on it as his primary qualification. He also made it clear that he is nauseated and has been nauseated by the ongoing deplorable tactics of the GOP and its representatives, such as the Jeremiah Wright thing. He was calling on the pundits and Superpacs and the guilty candidates to reign it in. President Obama, was actually, excluded from his list, and rightfully so. The campaign has been honest and has plenty of videotape to work with. But the stupid, Romney included, didn't hear that apparently. All they heard was nauseating and Obama in the same discussion and they immediately bought some mythical connection between the two.....talk about your magical thinkers......
I wrote this before his extremely eloquent interview. Love Love LOVE Cory Booker! Straight up! He puts it all in perspective. A real man. A real hero. A real Leader. Like our President! God bless them and theirs.
Hardcoffee, speak for yourself. If you don't care, don't read it and don't comment.
The truth is liberal. Something the republican mind can not grasp. Conservatism in America is a mental illness. Sadly we all have to live with it.
Berndog, I agree. The right wing is so full of lies and hatred that they cannot even see the truth anymore. The truth to them is what they want to hear and they deny anything they don't want to hear. As in the movie "A Few Good Men"...they cannot handle the truth.
Booker was not misunderstood. He is a Republican in Democratic clothing. TWO commercials so far for his overweight cohort in New Jersey for Vice-President. Obama needs to dump this guy unless he believes in the adage keep your friends close your enemies closer. This guy is not a friend.
Chuck, get a grip! Is ignorant is running rampant in this country.
The entire country should get on board to move the country forward in a positive manner period. Enough said.
Yeah! So much for freedom of thought with the liberal democrats…No, you didn’t really mean that, what you meant was…
Too late, his name is MUDD with Obama et al, regardless if they try to use him to undo the damage
Fly, be free young man, speak the TRUTH with love!
Anyone who thinks one political party is any less corrupt and manipulating than the other is kidding themselves or just being obtuse. Both parties pull the exact same crap, both are concerned solely with themselves and both are broken down shells of what they once stood for. Saying your party is better than the other is like saying the Italian mob was better than Irish mob.
Hey Fed.....Booker spoke his mind, got taken to the wood shed, put out a 4 minute youtube video and the Obama Campaign Machine edited it down to a 30-second spot and sent it out for their in-the-pocket media to play ad nauseum....
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GsdD3AvSgVQ
Why was he sitting there with his laptop open.....to make sure he got all the talking points in he was required to say ??? Who wrote his script ??
(Democrat) "Harold Ford Jr. Says Cory Booker Should Not Have ‘Backed Off’ His Bain Comments"
http://politicker.com/2012/05/21/harold-ford-jr-says-cory-booker-should-not-have-backed-off-his-bain-comments/
Booker is looking for a spot in the White House. Obama slapped him on the wrist and told him to STFU if he wanted to advance his political career. Period, end of story.
Hey Mike!
Nah, you can see his eyes reading Barry s teleprompter!
@ourdoc you mean msnbc talks out of both ends. When talking about conservative issues it always a bunch of crap, nothing of any truth or value. All the liberal ideas are spun to be monumental, whether they have any true value or not.
You ask why I even come to this site if I don't like it? I don't get home delivered newspapers many more and I was addicted to the funnies, so I come here for my morning laughs.
I admired his courage for making a statement that applied to politicians from both parties- especially putting country above party. Too bad he has to revert back to the DC two-step.
WOW, whats with all of the haters? I dont like you, ou dont like me, lets agree to disagree, but why cant we have a civilised debate about this like normal poeple(even though we are not :P lol).
Anyway, as the great writer Shakespeare wrote: The truth will out. And this guy lies through his teeth every time.
The problem with politics, there is alot of politics involved.
Shows how desperate the GOP is. Poor leadership. Honor seems to have left the republicans entirely. Hillarious. The party of and for ignorance will only increase it until election day. Republicans are a shame to this country and have been for over a decade now!
Ourdoc
LOL! First you talk about "listening to both sides", then you admit when someone says something you don't like they should just "shut their mouths".
MSNBC is no better or worse than Fox News and your comments are proof that many liberals hate anything being said that doesn't support their narrow views which is why they hate Fox News so much. There is a lot of garbage coming from conservatives but generally I see a lot more tolerance of differing veiwpionts from them than I do liberals. Many liberals just want the other side to "shut their mouths". If conservative don't like what you've said they call you an idiot; if liberals don't like what you've said they tell you to shut up. Which do you think is worse?
Not restoring 1 - 'this isn't news' isn't an on-topic comment.
They're both bad. Mind the first rule, folks:
First Joe says he is sorry now Booker says don't use me? next time I am going fishing I am taking a Democrat with me because they really know how to real them in..all kidding aside
you say going after bain is nauseating, now you say all bets are off...well you did say all bets are off and anything is fair game so i guess you got what you asked Booker, you know how the game is played my friend so next time you need to think about what you say or those nasty soundbites will be used against you...now to be fair both sides love to spin soundbites but like i said be careful on what you say because it might come back to haunt you
Anybody can fix a company the way Republicans do. They just fire everyone. They can't think beyond that...It's symptomatic of their party. Capitalism for the CEO's who then administer Socialism on their workers. They hate Obama because he tries to help workers and even the playing field. Republicans are sheep and if your not a sheep too they are bullies.
WOW...7 AM...that's pretty early for the whole #1 Comment thread to be collapsed...
Yet late for collapsing a MSNBC troll.:) You're next I bet.
Graham-146117 What workers has obama helped? The only won he has helped is himself and his his wife. But yet you people keep giving him credit for crap he hasn't done. Obama made himself rich by laying around writeing books and throwing parties. Any time something serious happens he seems to be on vacation, golfing or at a damn patry.
But yet he is so wonderful. Obama tell you when to crap and what to eat. And he is so wonderful. He attended a racist church and made dumbass comments and yet, he is so wonderful. He takes credit for stuff he hasn't done, and blames others for his screw ups but, he is so wonderful. He is screwing americans out of their rights, and he is so wonderful.
I guess you are one of those lazy ass people who obama to provide free medical and cheese to them. Well I prefer to work for what I have. I don't need a lying democrape giving me anything.
Jeff-1592116....(#2.3).."Yet late for collapsing a MSNBC troll.:) You're next I bet."
I see from some of your other comments that you have a penchant for calling anyone that doesn't tow the MSNBC line a troll....But have a nice day anyway....
I'm so glad Cory Booker was willing to talk to Rachel Maddow about how the GOP has tried to use his MTP comments against the president.
How disingenuous of Republicans to try to use the mayor of Newark, NJ of all places as a shill for their Reverse Robin Hood Romney, robbing from the poor to give to the rich!
The difference between Barack Obama and most other leaders is that he actually encourages dissent in the ranks. He is the polar opposite of a man who surrounds himself with 'yes men'.
Booker has reaffirmed that he stands firmly with the president, and that should be enough to get the GOP to sit down and STFU. But since they don't have anything to use against the president, any dandruff that flies off a Democrat is like manna from heaven to the GOP.
Pathetic.
Dear Graham,
Please do not embarrass yourself further by posting your typo-filled, unintelligible, inane drivel. On the other hand --- since you represent your group so well, keep up the good work!! Your apparent lack of intelligence and writing skills do more to shore up the feeling among thinking people that the political right has more than its fair share of idiots. Maybe you could get a job writing copy (or hosting a show) for Faux News where facts and intelligence never get in the way of their reporting :) Have a nice day and good luck with the job search!!
exssg,
Wow....I've read some ill-informed drivel (and horribly mis-spelled to boot, even though that comment will likely see me accused of elitism) before, but seldom have I been treated to such a thinly-veiled racist rant so devoid of substance that it had little but epithets upon which to rest its case.
Why the incessant accusations of Obama always being on vacation? I'm willing to bet that GW Bush took far more days of vacation during his first term, yet the media never dwelled on them in the same manner. "Parties?" More like state functions - you did of course realize that the office comes with a great many obligations in that department, didn't you? What instructions have been issued as to what to eat or...(never mind the latter)? Why is it so reflexively assumed that support for this administration is predicated upon a desire to abuse the remnants of governmental social programs? What 'rights' has he denied any Americans to date? What 'stuff' has he stolen credit for?
My guess is that if you have worked as diligently in life as you clearly did in school, you don't have very much anyway, except the insane hatred you seem to be nurturing and directing at any target that makes you feel small. Yeah, I can see exactly why you hate Obama so much.
And I see from some of your comments that you are indeed a troll.
Maybe what we are seeing here is in fact Boker supporting Obama by flip flopping on his position as all things left seem to accuse Romney of doing. "I support Bain and going after them is nauseating, no wait, Obama was right, I'm mad the GOP has abused me by simply playing my original position" or Ala' Obama " My Christian convictions will not allow me to support gay marriage, now wait, whats that? re-election? Oh Wait a second, My Christian convictions bring me to support gay marriage even though I support Islam more than Christianity and had my own administration stated that the #1 problem in America was not terrorism, but Christianity.....but, I flip flopped on that one 2 once public outcry proved America was still 80% Christian as a country just as the data suggested." I'll tell you what, being that I had the unfortunate life of being born and raised in Massachusetts the one good thing that did come out of that state was when Mitt took over. It sicken me to hear all the liberal spin against Mitt and the health care bill he submitted that got so many add on by the likes of Kerry & Kennedy, it was almost as if Mitt never even write the thing. Mitts version of health care was this, Mitt came into Mass with a 4.8 billion dollar hole created by fellow liberals. In less than 2 years in office he had created a 53 billion dollar surplus. He then went to Kennedy who promised the people of Mass that when the state budget got fixed and a surplus was created, he would personally see to it that stae taxes were lowered to 4.3%. Kennedy and Kerry both sung this song and of coarse, like all things liberal, it doesn't phase them if the people pay 90% state taxes because they are exempt from paying state tax. Similar to Obuma and friends about gas prices. Obuma thinks paying 5,6,7 heck, even $8 per gallon is fine but then again, Obuma wil never again pay for gas so of coarse it doesn't affect him nor his family and the same is with congress, they to get a nice car and fuel allowance via the tax payers pockets. Anyhow, Mitt went to collect on the Kennedy promise and when he did, Kennedy showed Mitt the door and said he didn't have to lower anything and that it would never happen as long as he was in office. Mitt brought up the fact of the promise he made to the people and Kennedy stated " The people don't know whats best for them, I do." This statement made by Kennedy was plastered all over the radio waves in Mass and it pissed off many people. So much that everyone thought the republican running against Kennedy would wipe him clean in the election the following year. His GOP rival spend almost 5 million dollars in campaign adds, Kennedy? He didn't even as much as say a word to the media concerning his re-election. On the night of the count, Kennedy was no where to be seen and reports were that Kennedy was on one of his several yearly vacations to one of his 14 homes he owned this one being in the Hampton's during the count. A funny thing happened. Kennedy had gotten more votes that there was registered voters and when the GOP candidate attempted to bring it to the courts, all the sudden he came back and admitted defeat even though it was the monitors who caught the fraud in the first place. Mitt had given a speech to the people of Mass. In it he stated that the surplus created in the state was so that the tax payers own money would be used to benefit them. Let me tell you, this pissed off Kennedy and Kerry and every other left wing power player in Mass. Mitt stated his health care bill would take the average single mother who worked at McDonald's and paid $450 per month for health care coverage for her and her kids and would offset her payment to about $80 per month. This was in no way anything close to "Obamacare" folks. Kennedy and Kerry added all the additions of paying for abortions and every other stance that republicans are against and told Mitt it would never pass unless he went by their demands. In other words, it would be a cold day in hell before a republican created a health care bill that would help every single American and claim it was the idea of the GOP. It had to have liberal lines in it so that liberals could take credit for something they never thought of. To Mitt, the idea that politics were more important to these 2 liberal goons that it was to keep a promise to the people and then deny them a financial break was just to much. Mitt then attacked the MTA or the Mass TurnPike Authority that was comprised of political powers relatives friends etc.. who sat in a box on the highway collecting a fee to drive to work on the roads in the state of MA. Mitt used his own money out of his own pocket to gather stats that showed the average MA citizen payed $4750 in tolls per year just to drive to work and back home. Mitt then was moving to abolish the MTA and the people in Mass finally knew they had someone in office who truly cared about the people and didn't just say it, but demonstrated his words in actions. Mitt left and began his run for President and left his Lt. Gov Healy who scared the people in Mas because even though she claimed to be a conservative, she had to many issues she was on the fence about and leaned liberal on many ideas. The people of Mass basically said, if they were going to have a liberal in office, then they would vote for one. So became the rule of the tyrant and Obamas twin brother Duval "gimme a fin" Patrick who sunk the Massachusetts surplus and created a debt hole of 11.2 billion dollars in less than 3 years in office as well as trashed the idea of doing away with the MTA and as a matter of fact, Duval ended up increasing the tolls across the board. HE then altered the health care bill and raised taxes on tobacco twice as Duval said he had to in order to pay for health care. This made cigarettes rise from $3.85 per pack to almost $6 per pack in less than 1 year, When Duval ran for re-election, he was smart as some would say, he hired his team to contact every single elderly voter on the list and told them if they did not re-elect him as Gov against the GOP choice, their property taxes would be raised 200%. The man is a snake and used fear tactics to get a 2nd term in office during which time he allowed his fellow liberal who was caught on tape by FBI stuffing her "bra" with cash from FBI agents who bought liquor licences off of her. This woman was lifted up by Duval as this generations Rosa Parks but turned out to be this generations "Pay Rosa if you want to be licenced in this state" People can thank Diane Wilkerson for being such a role model to our youth who look to enter politics, who wouldn't want the job with people getting promotions for getting caught doing illegal things? Obama once sated that if anyone in the US wanted to know how he was concerning fiscal responsibility they needed to look no further than his twin, his brother, his friend and one of the greatest democratic Governors to ever serve in the US, Duval Patrick. This was of coarse, before Duval took that surplus and created double the debt in less than 3 years but, this only goes to show you how little Americans research or cared about what Obamas qualifications were before being elected. The Black Panthers said it best and to be honest, this is the only time I have ever found myself in agreeance with any racist pig hate group when they said " The guilty white people of America voted for Barrak H. Obama because they wanted to feel justified when they were exposed for the devils they truly are by saying (We are not racist, we voted for that black guy in the white house) as their proof and justification of why they are not the racist pigs they truly are." Now, I understand the quote I just posted sounds so ignorant and it's obvious by the sentence combinations that the speeker who said this lacks in English and education for that matter but I kinda do believe this because in my mind, no one could have voted for Obama based on his record or what he had done because he didn't do anything and his record showed that. Anyhow, I know I ran off topic in several areas on this post but I also feel that everything I posted has to do with even the issue at hand about this guy changing his tune all because Obama most likely called him personally and either threatened his political career or whatnot. Obama has done nothing but destroy our country, spend, spend, and spend some more, more money we don't have and he has single handily placed more blame on others than any 43 US President put together. And yes, I know Obuma is the 44th President hence my factual point.
Obama and his leftist cronies have destroyed many more companies than any so-called "venture capitalist" by their belief in over taxation of any company which doesn't fit their "green" list or if they don't have the proper socialist agenda! Between Solindra and the constant attack on any carbon-based energy company there have either been billions of dollars sent down the toilet or thousands of jobs destroyed! "He really cares, about what I have no idea!" (paraphrasing a great American, Rodney Dangerfield!)
I find this Bain issue by the LEFT a bunch of hypocrites. They knock Bain and yet they take campaign $$$$$$ from them like Obama does. Second of all Mitt was not even at the firm when certain companies went under and second of all if it wasn't for Bain trying to hold these companies a float for 8 years those jobs would of been gone a lot sooner. Its ironic how the LEFT likes to spin things around without telling all the facts about what really happened. HEY! Liberal idiots tell the whole truth PLEASE. Us voters are getting tired of the double tongue rhetoric BS.
You need to cease answering scary questions Mayor Booker. The truth does not "set you free", it upsets those whom the truth hurts the most. That being the ignorance of the American people. Never, never underestimate that.
We all know what the Mayor was saying the first time which was that Bain should NOT be used by the dems because we need private equity money to invest in our future which does create jobs in the long run.
Let's use Newark NJ that I know very well. The people left have little money, but they are expected to be taxed to pay for necessary services. This group will NEVER be those investing in the future of Newark. They simply do not have the resources. So the Mayor is looking for investors outside of Newark to help out by investing in Newark which eventually will bring much needed jobs that funds services and eventually more growth.
Private equity investors are rich people. They need to embrace risk on various levels to enrich themselves, but also to provide a future for many others by putting their money to work. So we need the 1 percent like the Vanderbilts, the Mellons, the Fords, the Rockerfellers, etc. that did get richer, but also built businesses and invested heavily in communities that has made America a rich industrial nation.
We have a president in the WH that wants to siphon on money from the rich group by taxing them a lot more and increasing the size of government subsidies which robs the private sector of the capacity to invest and grow America.
However, Obama is not adverse from taking from the very people he loathes for their success to feed his campaign coffers. What we never hear from this president is his desire to create more top earners. What we hear from him is how he feels those current top earners are benefiting from their success and thus need to cough over their earnings to give to those that do have the same earning capacity. This income redistribution makes for a much less creative country and one that will invest less and less wanting to hold on to what they have or frankly leaving this country for a better business climate.
We are at a sad point in our history that a man running for president is targeted by our president for his own financial success. I guess it would have been better if Mitt was from a poor family and stayed poor and could run on that mantra instead of the American success story he actually has lived.
Another Obama fool, given power he can't handle.
Kate Max - (post 2.7)
You took the words right out of my mouth. Have a great day!
I clearly understood what Mr. Booker ment, he used the Obama campaing as an example, should have said that both parties need to stop all this mud slinging. The truth of the matter is I knew about Romney before he came into the picture. I would like to be given more informing campaing adds. I really don't care about a persons religion, race, all I care about is what the person can do to get the job done. What I would like to have answered is three simple questions. Mitt, ol' boy, You have 256 mil. in cash and your net worth is more. Your friends are multi-milionares-billionares. At what point is your greed going to be satisfied? How many businesses are you going to need to destroy? How many peoples lives do you need to destroy? I feel it would be cheeper for the people of this country to give you a couple billion dollars, tax free, and send you home.
That is way off base. The simple but elegant truth is that the GOP works for the wealthy one percent and the interests of multi-national corporations, while President Obama works to strengthen the middle class which is the backbone of our democracy.
Nobody targets Mr. Mittens for his financial success. Warren Buffett isn't 'targeted' is he? Think for a moment about the difference between those two wealthy men. Romney made his money by leveraging and breaking up companies. He is no 'job creator'. Warren Buffet, on the other hand, is widely respected as a good corporate citizen who has pledged to give away 99% of his fortune to charitable causes.
If you want to talk about a poor man who came from a poor family, look at Bill Clinton. Romney is running for president because the GOP has a serious deficit of leaders. They just don't have anyone else in their fractured party who can (sort of) appeal to normal Americans and also appeal to their ultra-right wing base that calls all the shots.
As far as I'm concerned, Romney is welcome to his money. He can take it and put it in a small dark place. Just so he leaves our country alone. We don't need his kind of leverage and destruction in our federal government.
Being used by the Republicans??? And the blacks have "never" been used by the Democrats. Their still using them. Lyndon Johnson made a comment (in private), "Keep the ni***ers dependent on us and we will have their votes forever." This is hilarious.
Buffet owes the government over 1 billion in back taxes, but being a 1%er who "Promises" to give his wealth away and spouts a party line, he gets a free pass on his criminal activity, right?
6 Dogs your a moron. Romney knows how to create jobs. You sound like a jealous creep. If any of you want to educate yourselves scroll up and read "The Boys" post. Then you'll understand how things work in this country. This country is going down fast because of people like 6 Dogs that just don't get it and keep supporting socialism. It does'nt work. Work hard and support yourself that's what works! Deal with it!
Obama will make him a csar over something as thanks for his loyality.
kaybee
Thanks for your post, no one hates the fact that Mitt has money, if he were a philanthrophist like Gates and Buffet no one would be so critical of his way of making money. Do people talk about Zukerberg? Mitt is broke compared to these 3 men.
The fact that Mitt does not mention his being a Governor speaks volumes, when he really was in a position to be able to create job, #47 out of 50 States. So his way of making money is fair game.
Cory Booker was out of his element and should no longer be a surrogate, he does however need to make ads that speak negatively about the Republicans and include the "I stand with Cory" Republican line. That would be effective.
Here's a saying for you Rob.
"There are 2 things that are infinite: the universe and human stupidity and I'm not sure about the universe."
Albert Einstein
Think about that next time you think you know what you are talking about.
kaybeetoy - I don't recall Warren Buffett being on a ballot for President! If he were, then YES, his financial success would be Target "A" and you would have the same disdain for Mr Buffett, as you do for Mr Romney. You would likely not hear about all the middle class workers that Mr Buffet's companies have helped. Instead you would hear about all the jobs that were lost when Berkshire Hathaway created more effecient and healthy businesses to ensure long term success and growth. Fact is, WE - the aspiring middle class, need the Mitt's and the Warren's to invest in companies and make them viable to provide the middle class employment. I do not expect, nor do I want the Government to provide that opportunity for me!
Summary: Mitt and Warren make companies more effecient and better managed to be more profitable! Is there ANY entity in the world more inefficient than the US Government? It's time for the Professional Politicians to yield to a Professional Businessman to manage this country. Unfortunately with partisan politics in the way, I don't expect any leader to magically help Americans feel like they're part of the 100%
"Cory Booker went on The Rachel Maddow Show Monday to continue his damage control efforts. "
I wonder if all 7 people that watch Maddow were watching?
First, you make a statement calling Obama's attacks on Romney 'nauseating', and then, after a 'midnight call' from the Obama camp, you're surprised that the Republicans use them?
Where did you learn your politics?
If you as a tax paying citizen do not feel "used" by both parties, then you have my sympathy. Why is it that all things political have everything to do with the individual politician and their party, and nothing to do with the American populace? Rhetorical question. And yet so many brown nose up to these people as if they were REALLY the boss.
To MSNBC - It is called spell check, try it some time.
The GOP taking advantage of someone ? I'm SHOCKED......
When Sen. John McCain (R) arizona ran for president there was nothing from the dDemocrats about the fact that McCain was born n Central America...no "birther issue" came up...and when Sen. Barry Goldwater (R) Arizona ran for President against Lyndon Johnson....there was NO foolishness about Birther paperwork, though it was wll known that Goldwater was NOT BORN in one of the US States....
And when nutcase neo-nazi Republicans insituted attempts to change the US Constitution to allow someone who was born in Europe, to run for the Presidency, there was no outcry from Democrats, even though Arnold Swatzenazis father fought in the German Army for Hitler; The father was a card carrying member of the DSDAP.
Too bad that Mitt Romney cannot stand up for his core beliefs on behalf of his very successful RomneyCare health insurance plan in Massachusetts..it is so good, that Obama literally hired the SAME team put together by Romney...so Obama could copy most of RomneyCare, but in a toned down version.....
Too Bad that Romney, who stated that "I am VERY much in favor of our STRONG gun laws here in Massachusetts", that he isn't truthful with Republicans who have overlooked this.....
And, too bad that Romney, who used political pull to evade the draft during the VietNamese War....told his FIVE sons that "You shouldn't think about joining the armed forces, thats for working-class kids who don't have the sorts of options and education that YOU do."
@Graham-146117
Republicans? What makes you say that? obviously it's the fact that you're clueless. Perhaps you weren't paying attention when Obama had a major fundraiser held by the president of a major private equity firm. Even the big shots at Bain Capitol give the majority of their money to democrats. So why do you think it's republicans when these very people mostly support democrats?

I knew I would be collapsed, liberals don't like the truth.
Wow! David give us a break! How can you complain about criticism of your comments when they are ridiculous and apparently not researched? The comment you made about former President George Bush taking more vacations than President Obama is absolutely untrue! President Obama has not been in office for 8 years and that is like comparing apples to oranges. If you had done your research, you would have found that in the 8 years President Bush was in office he spent 487 days at Camp David (approximately 234 days working with his staff and other world leaders on the war in Iraq and other foreign affairs) and 490 days at his ranch in Crawford, TX (which he spent 119 days working with foreign leaders on world issues). The list of foreign leaders with Bush were Russian President Vladimir Putin, November 2001, British Prime Minister Tony Blair, April 2002, Saudi King Abdullah, April 2002, April 2005, Saudi Prince Bandar bin Sultan, August 2002, Chinese President Jiāng Zémín, October 2002, Spanish Prime Minister José María Aznar, February 2003, Australian Prime Minister John Howard, May 2003, Japanese Prime Minister Koizumi Jun'ichirō, May 2003, Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, July 2003, Mexican President Vicente Fox, March 2004, March 2005, Spanish King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofía, November 2004, Canadian Prime Minister Paul Martin, March 2005, Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, April 2005, Colombian President Álvaro Uribe, August 2005, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, November 2007, Danish Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen, February 2008. This leaves Bush at 624 days of vacation time during his 8 years in office while the average family probably spent 112 days of vacation for the same 8 years. President Obama has spent 159 days of vacation and personal time away from the White House. 48 days of vacation to Chicago (twice), Asheville, N.C., Hawaii, and to Martha's Vineyard. The Obamas have enjoyed, at tax payer's expense, 33 days & gala nights away from the White House (dates with the first Lady) which had nothing to do with White House affairs. Each time the Obamas take a date night it cost taxpayers over $11,000 in Secret Service costs alone and $12,188 per hour for the use of Air Force One. His appearances on Jay Leno, Dave Letterman, and of course The View TV shows. David this of course you consider as state functions. Hah, hah! Obama has spent 32 vacation days at Camp David and 39 days golfing. Obama took a 7 day trip to receive his Nobel prize. All this information is from CBS White House correspondent Mark Knoller, and we know CBS is not a right wing bias news network! And let’s not forget the 4 day secret excursion he took to Kenya to visit with his father’s family calming that it was a foreign affairs trip. Right! LOL! Let’s also add Michele Obama’s use of the Air Force One aircraft for her June 21-27 Safari trip (costing the tax payers $424,142 just for Air Force One), and that doesn't include the food, lodging, and ground transportation for the 21 family and staff members. The passenger manifests confirm the presence of Obama's daughter's, Malia and Sasha on the trip. The two girls are listed as "Senior Staff." The manifests also list Mrs. Obama's mother, Marian Robinson, and niece and nephew, Leslie and Avery Robinson, as well Mrs. Obama's makeup and hairstylist (Carl Ray and Johnny Wright). Michelle Obama calmed the trip to South Africa and Botswana was to encourage young people living in the two growing democracies to become involved in national affairs but she only spoke at 2 functions while there according to Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton. He goes on to state “this junket wasted tax dollars and the resources of our overextended military. No wonder we had to sue to pry loose this information." All of this in 20 months of Obama’s presidency. You asked what has he denied the American people? Well for starters the Healthcare Bill, I do not want the government telling me I have to purchase healthcare or I will be fined $1500 for each year that I don’t have it. Are you nuts? He is taking away the freedom of the people to make choices for themselves with this Health Bill and that is a Constitutional Right! I’m all for monitoring
healthcare expenses and making it affordable for low income families. Heck I’m part of a low income family thanks to Obama’s economic recovery, I was laid off from a job I had for over 8 years last year. Now I’m back in college earning another degree (nursing) and I don’t qualify for any grants or assistance because my husband and I made too much money according to the government for last year. I had to get an unsubsidized student loan and we had to give up a vehicle,
reduced our cable to the basic channels and internet (internet is essential for
college), and no home phone. We are struggling every day to make it and we may lose our home we’ve been in for 7 yrs., so please do not give me any grief. My husband works full time and tries to get as much overtime as he can, and I work
part-time and go to school full time. I’m not complaining because it’s a struggle
now for most families. Then you play the race card and accuse anyone who does not agree with Obama or what you say as being racist. Well how dare
you?! I am bi-racial and I take offense to that. You are a ridiculous man
and I feel sorry for you. You are so miss informed and you don’t want to
research the truth, you just want to listen to the media sources that have the
same opinions as you do. You are the racist and the bigot! Everything you’ve said is racially motivated. You need to get a grip! I am patriotic person and I want Obama to succeed because he is our president. His actions have an effect on what happens to our country but I can’t go along with his debt increases and now he wants to raise taxes on couples making more than 48,000 a year and that amount is considered low income! Yes, I do my research and I suggest that everyone do the same. Again shame on you for using the race card for your agenda!
floyd, the real information is in the collapsed posts. I check all of them, since MSDNC is making the collapses possible. The majority of collapsed posts are for the conservative posts. Some leftwing posts are collapsed because of the filthy language used by those "tolerant" leftwingers.
Several comments restored. Not these:
exssg, Kate Max, David Wellman, Rob-1699252, you're each suspended for a day for violating #1 of the Code of Honor.
Don't make it personal.
BByanko....not only do they take money from them, but their stock portfolio is filled with them. If companies like Bain don't make a profit (at the cost of employees losing their jobs even) people like Obama and the rest of the politicians invested in wall street wouldn't be making their millions on insider trading.
A shame. I was hoping there might actually exist a politician who can think for himself. Apparently Cory Booker can't live up to the hype and has caved in to political partisan pressure. Had higher hopes for this one.
Don't look on the Republican side of the fence for a politician that can think for himself because the right wing does not like politicians that think for themselves. Anyone that does not toe the Grover Norquist line will be "primaried" and he has the millions to back it up. In other words, money is buying elections and the weak minded idiots glued to the TV are falling for it.
Liberal? Well if you are going to call everyone a liberal that does not agree with the present leadership in the republican part that would be 7/8ths of the people in the US. You see they do believe if you do not cater to their lockstep ways you are a liberal and they are the only true conservatives.Romney in their eyes is a liberal also since he did not join the tnuts. I watched the Booker interview and I suggest that all the thinking people on here do the same . It in no way reflects the spin the old swift boaters are putting on it. What he said was and i agree is that all venture Capitalists are not as bad as the Bain organization.
This has nothing to do with Republicans or Democrats. Booker is a politician. Politicians lie, pander and obfuscate to gain their positions and then say what is expedient to keep their positions. The people of both parties who don't understand this (or worse, support it) are the reason both parties are full of liars and thieves.
I am encouraged! So there actually are still folks out there who actually watch and listen before just scooping up some sound bites or info second hand and running with it. We have turned into a nation of idiots whose concept of ideology is simply a collection of tag lines they like. Yikes!!!.
!
Larry, leftists think!? When global warming is being discredited it is "settled science" (an oxymoron)! When tens of thousands of jobs building the Keystone pipeline are being trashed it is "a noble sacrifice" and when billions are being wasted in "green" industries it is ignored! If a black youth is killed by a half white, half hispanic, the killer is "White", but, a half black half white president is "black"! Sounds like liberals have selective "thought"!
I'm encouraged as well. We actually have people here that know the meaning of the word obfuscate.
Oops!
Yes, there is a party that doesn't lie and will stand up for the people of this country.
IT IS THE PARTY of NO!
People are going to have wake-up and realize we can't keep blaming our woes on yesterday and whoever. There has to be some hard-line changes and many are going to be a hard pill to swallow.
As Americans our fore fathers said we are entitled to: Life, Liberty and the pursuit of happiness, but by our own initiatives. Somewhere down the line the Life, Liberty and pursuit of happiness was removed and all that was left was Americans are "Entitle".
@breadex,
What he said was "If you look at the totality of Bain Capital's record, they've done a lot to support businesses, to grow businesses." He wasn't talking about private equity firms in general, he was talking about Bain Capital specifically.
Give us a break, Paul. What has your Party of No done for this country?
How about looking instead at what the GOP has done to this country?
USELESS, UNFUNDED WARS, FINANCIAL RUIN, LOSS OF AMERICAN JOBS TO FOREIGN COUNTRIES, DEGRADATION OF THE ENVIRONMENT, DESTRUCTION OF PUBLIC EDUCATION, LOSS OF HEALTHCARE FOR THE MIDDLE CLASS, REFUSAL TO FUND INFRASTRUCTURE OR RESEARCH, ATTACKS ON IMMIGRANTS, WOMEN AND GAYS... I could go on and on.
GOawayParty of NO.
Leave my country alone!
Just another example of how the Democrat party has no interest in the truth. Booker spoke his mind, and he said what he did. But obviously his comments were not part of the Democrat playbook and as such are not allowed. Now Booker feels used the poor baby. If Obama had any sort of record to run on, the country would not be bombarded by the side show antics of the Democratic Party of the do as I say not as I do philosophy.
All is lost with idiots like you. Sorry to name call but there just wasn't another word that fit you so well. Honestly, do you think for yourself or just listen to a 10 second bite on CNN/MSNBC, etc...and think it's true? I so wish people had to take a basic "I'm not a total moron" test before being allowed to vote.
TOO much for you to comprehend. Go back and play with your toys, beware those little recorded message they keep telling you will wear out one day. By the way KB I was talking about the "Party of NO" not Obama's failed administration, but that is Bush's fault. To bad Obama let Bush give the marching orders these past 3 1/2 years.
I cannot believe there are still people in the world that think Hispanic is a RACE... Get a grip!!! Learn something!!! Geez.... it's bad enough to try to bring Trayvon Martin into this, but at least don't be so blatantly stupid!
start by speaking the truth can't come to terms with the fact that b.s. teabag/repubs got us where we're at now...them you actually want to go back to that trinkle down bull@!$%#? please god give these @!$%# asses what they want....so that they can choke on the @!$%# ...then blame someone else!!!!!
Honestly, there are plenty of Republicans out there that hated what Bush did like me, but we hate what Obama is doing too. He claims all of these grandiose things to get himself elected by people who cannot see through his lies (..and honestly McCain was not much better) and then when he doesn't fulfill even 1/3 of his promises these same people will continue to back him again as if he never did anything wrong. What is with people these days? Being partisan and not looking objectively at both sides is what is killing this Country. We try turning a blind eye to our own "Party" so that we can pretend the other party is worse. THEY ARE THE SAME LIARS ON BOTH SIDES PEOPLE!!! Wake up America!
Romney has a Law Degree from Harvard, AND a degree from Harvard Business School, AND he claims that he "loves cheesy grits", and one of his 7 homes has a 2 level garage with an elevator, so his vehicle du jour can be brought op to his kitchen door....probably by one of the illegal immigrants who work for him.
Mitt was caught TWICE having hired illegal South American immigrant landscapers at his mansion in Belmont,Mass.
Larry is a prime example of not thinking for yourself.
Liam, when did being rich become a sin, and show the proof about hiring illegals.
floyd, wasn't Obama listed as worth ten million dollars? Maybe he should voluntarily do what he is trying to force other successful business men to do, namely re-distribute his own money. Obama doesn't "need" ten million dollars.pay more taxes, and given what he says, he should walk the talk.
liam...yeah and kerry was so damn poor when he was running for president, right? Kerry, the guy who was instrumental in getting the luxury tax passed, putting yacht builders in the US out of work and costing 26,000 jobs and then going to New Zealand for to have his $7 million yacht buit because it was cheaper due to the tax base. Not to mention he didn't dock it in his own state because the luxury taxes there were too high to. Docked it in a different state, providing jobs for that state instead of his own.
I really find it hypocritical of the liberals to condemn Romney for his money after they voted for Kerry.
Barack Obama is only one person. His administration is only one branch of a three-pronged government. Even with no cooperation from congress (total obstructionism engineered by the GOP before he even took office), he has accomplished a lot in just a little over three years.
Obama passed the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, passed healthcare reform, passed Wall Street reform, ended the war in Iraq, removed bin Laden and other al Qaeda leaders, passed a stimulus bill, increased tuition aid for college students, saved the American automobile industry, promoted jobs and healthcare for returning veterans, created the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, among other things, and has a solid record of 25 straight months of job growth.
My question for you is: what are you doing to support the local, state and federal leaders who are working hard to move us in the right direction? Or are you one of those who just sits back and complains?
Do you really think going back to the failed policies of Bush/Cheney is going to work? Do you understand that it is a thriving, viable middle class that powers our consumer-driven economy? Rich people don't create jobs, consumers create jobs. Support for the middle class is crucial. Romney's policies would turn the U.S. into a third world country where the gap between the rich and everyone else would continue to grow.
Do you understand your role in this democracy? Do you promote the duties and responsibilities of citizenship to others?
We have built the best country the world has ever known, but it can all go away. It is more fragile than some people realize. It takes more effort than most Americans are willing to put in.
Barack Obama's message is "Yes WE Can," not "Yes I Can".
There is nothing as inspiring as a leader who believes in hope and change... but WE have to have hope, and WE are the ones who have to make change happen. No one man or woman can do it alone.
Support this president! He's got the right ideas and if he had Americans behind him, there really would be nothing we couldn't do.
I agree Eagle - let me open my mouth, put both feet in and then try to pawn it off and blame someone else. Not enough balls to stand behind what he says, believes in or up for himself........ typical "poletician" (either party!). What a smuck!
What a smuck??? You mean like Santorum who made a degrading comment about black people and tried to back track and say that wasn't what he said? Yep, political schmucks.
Larry, I think you would agree that there are schmuckers on all sides of the political fence!
Larry,
He said from both parties so no need for the Santorum remark. There are people like me who think that if both parties jumped into a bus together and drove off a cliff, the country would be a much better place. Read some of Thomas Jefferson's writings and you will understand that even the founding fathers had reservations about a two party system and how it would end up. Neither party cares about the regular person and if you think differently then I chalk that up to being naive or brainwashed. Hopefully you see my point.
The smuck would be someone who posts false misleading information like you just did
The Keystone pipeline is not dead it has enviromental issues that need to be addressed. One thingg to realize is it is a PROJECT, It will hire a lot of people, Like all projects it will be completed in a few years and than a lot of people will be unemployed all at once. I guess that you are not aware there are two pipelines projects going on in Texas right now. At present they are hiring people right out of school and starting them at $20 an hour and that is with no job experience. As for that Canadian oil company, It may mean jobs to build it, but the oil is Canadas. Are you aware that Canada does not have 1 oil refinery? There oil is shipped by rail to the US, refined, and than railed back to them.
their
Romney can't be called a flip-flopper. He is a dead fish.
LOL what? cuz Romney is a man of conviction? give me phuking break!
6dogs - We have to hire people in the US to refine the oil - that is where the bulk of the jobs will be created. Oil pipelines also require maintenance as well and jobs will be created there too. Yes, it will initially boom job creation and then slack it off, but those people I am sure would rather have that job than to not have the chance at doing it at all.
I agree he lacks some conviction by not standing by his original comment, he wormed out from his position, but in the same respect he stated all around he is disappointed and does not like negative campaigning, he also does not seem to favor Republicans. I doubt he was told what to do and say by "Obama" ............but is actually delegating his own positions. He backed out from where he is was entirely to not push the issue further as he stated he does not like negative campaigning-so why would he continue where this began? People on here (comment section) expect a response one way or the other based on their opinion of what he should do or say, quite possibly more based on what they would do or say, their personal feelings of politics in particular do not seem to discern between whats occurring and the entire scheme of politics in general. Whats even more interesting is people want strong leaders, when they also don't want politicians telling them what to do.....................
I will vote for the American in November.
Yeah, let's stand with him on women's rights....like the right to make 17% less if you work along side men in the WH under the obama administration.
BO and Axelrod put the screws to Booker and told him to recant or he would never be anything more than mayor of Newark.
I think he has already been promised a job by Romney or his cronies.
It's pretty bad when the "Rs" have to go all the way down the ladder to a Mayor to find some mud to sling. What a waste of an education...probaly not paid for to this day!
Obvious that Booker was out of his league.
Booker was telling the truth, without the private equity business, this country is toast. Then he was taken to the woodshed for straying from the divisive polarization (rich vs poor) that is all Obama has, since it would be insane to try and run on Obama's record.
6dogs, no worse than the Ls having to go back 50 years to find mud to sling.
Booker needs to carefully review his Political Science 101 notes, get off the TV, and think before he yacks. Also, his time is vitally needed to help Newark NJ move forward. Live and learn, I guess.
You mean like Romney or Bush or McCain or Kerry or Gore or Clinton or every other person who gives speeches for a living.
Bush rarely used a teleprompter...didn't need to! He could actually form complete sentences without one, something Obama obviously is unable to do. How embarrassing that you need a teleprompter to speak to 3rd graders in their classroom. Most politicians may use one every now and then but the O uses one for every...single...speech. Maybe Soros doesn't give him an advanced copy of his speeches so that's why he has to have a teleprompter!
Maybe Bush should have used a teleprompter. He could barely finish a sentence and made so many stupid comments it became a joke. Where were you when Bushie opened his mouth?
Are you EFFING kidding me?!
I am officially nominating Julles50 for the insane poster of the day award.
At least Bush had a core set of values that didn't change with the political wind like Obama. Hate him or not, no one calls him a flip-flopper...oh, excuse me, EVOLVER. Notice how neither one of you mentioned the teleprompter in a 3rd grade classroom. You can't just ignore Obama's ignorance and hope no one notices. Worst president in American history, hands down.
Julles,
Are you huffing paint?
Booker had it right the first time when he spoke from the heart on Meet the Press. Then the Chicago henchmen went after him.
Sad to see him cower.
Like Newt Gingrich when he spoke against Paul Ryan's stupid budget then did the back stroke. lmao @ right wing trolls
Larry,
I'm neither a democrat or republican and to me it's not a party issue. If you believe in something, stand up for it and don't let any party leader, staffer, etc tell you to change your views. This shouldn't even be a party vs party argument. We should want ALL (no matter what party) of our elected officials to be truthful and speak with candor. As an independent voter (don't let a donkey or elephant make my choices), I would like more politicians to be candid but don't run away from it once you have done so.
Brad: This would be a nice change from the current situation but it will never happen until PAC's, lobbyists and SUPER PAC's are outlawed. Politicians are beholden to them and will be for what looks to be an eternity.
"lean forward" is MSNBC code for their articles that are overtly biased, in contrast to the rest that are subtly biased.
and I guess zz-1971295a is code for reactionary knucklehead, faux news devotee, leaning backwards, right?
Amazing how much time some people spend reading a news source that they claim they hate so much.
How is this article biased? They are relating the facts whether you agree with the man's position and clarification or not.
I am beginning to think that you folks on the right think anything that does not fully uphold and support your position is biased.
For your personal edification here is the definition of bias as it applies here:
a particular tendency or inclination, especially one that prevents unprejudiced consideration of a question; prejudice
Notice please there is nothing in this definition that says anything about agreeing or disagreeing with the issue. In fact you will note that the definition more or less applies to you. You know, every time you say something like this you enhance the picture that the people on the right aren't too bright.
SD learn to spell,and FOX isn/t biased-get a life
Or Fox which is over the cliff biased all in the name of fair and balanced? Yeah! we all got one!
@bill tomey, I guess literature was not your strong subject?
8 restored, about the article.
Tom-631064, this isn't about the article. You're suspended for a day for violating #1 of the Code of Honor.
...
bill tomey, cut it out, see above.
What did Bain and Romney do to create job's in this country, nothing. They bought up companies with borrowed money, raided the assests like pensions and other assests, loaded the companies with debt and if they couldn't sell it they declared bankruptcy and walked away with all the money. Not good for this country.
you know what else bain did.....gave Obama money in 2007 and in the first 3 quarters in 2011...guess bain's money was good enough Obama
But Obama does not place Bain at the center of his policy!
Booker stated his opinion at the moment. GOP, looking for any and all angles, saw an advantage.
In reality, this is a momentary opinion without an advantage.
And of course, thank your beewhillickers that there never exists an agenda driven comment from the bowls of FAUX.
you are right Natalie but do not chastise someone working for bain while you are taking money from bain...
All you hear about are the "ruined" companies. How about those that were made better and the investors that have improved from venture capitalist companies. Not all of those deals ended up in failures. As anyone will tell you, some deals work and some don't. I have been one of the good stories as a result of such a company.
Let me ask a question, Does someone go into business to lose money? No? If everyone can grasp this concept then they will understand. Everyone is out there to make their living through money earned. If someone starts a business, they are doing it to make money. Why do people get mad over this? Jealousy maybe? Not every business is going to make it which means everyone can have a stake at it. Get off your butt and do something about it. Everyday, someone in this country becomes a Millionaire because of effort they put in. I'm tired of people being negative about someone else ability to run businesses or to attain successes all the while not holding the other accountable. If you want to an organization that is fundamentally flawed, look at the current administration. They couldn't run a lemonade stand without the bank taking it back. Then getting mad at the bank for giving them a loan that they couldn't pay back to buy the supplies for the stand. Get mad about that instead of what BAIN did or did not!
VH Navy well your comment proves one thing...Obama couldn't be bought. Bain wrecked AMC theaters, I think the worst run chain...yesterday they sold it to a Chinese Company.
You go to AMC and you find filthy bathrooms, backed up concession lines and indifferent staff as they are over worked...why, because the Bain plan was in effect. They slashed staff to make it look profitable, then they sold it off. THe new company will probably raise it back to a decent level.
And you see Nick that kind of rigid argument will be the ruin of this country. One may go into business to make money, but the line between obscene money and the welfare of your fellow human beings should not be crossed.
Are we animals? Oddly in this equation, the left would say yes, but we strive to be better. The right on the other hand would spout some sort of "god mumbo jumbo" and proclaim humans have been set above the animals to rule the earth. Apparently subjugate any group of people they can get their mitts on is an inherent right in that thought as well.
The irony is that most of the rank and file in GOPer land don't get they are enslaved and they have Stockholm Syndrome (look it up). If the right truly believed the Bible that they preach they could never treat their fellow man the way they do in pursuit of the almighty coin. I believe the Bible has more than one thing to say about that.
After going to both Harvard Business School and Harvard Law School simultaneously, Romney passed the Michigan bar, but never worked as an attorney. As a venture-capitalist, his first major business deal involved investing in a start-up office supply company with one store in Massachusetts that sold office supplies. That company, called Staples, now has over 2,000 stores and employs over 90,000 people. Romney or his company Bain Capital (using what became known as the "Bain Way") would go on to perform the same kinds of business successes with companies like Domino's, Sealy, Brookstone, Weather Channel, Burger King, Warner Music Group, Dollarama, Home Depot Supply, and many others.
Got your calculators handy? Let's recap.
· Volunteer campaign worker for his dad's gubernatorial campaign 1 year.
· Unpaid intern in Governor's office 8 years.
· Mormon missionary in Paris 2 years.
· Unpaid bishop and stake president for his church 10 years. No salary as president of the Olympics 3 years.
· No salary as MA governor 4 years.
That's a grand total of 28 years of unpaid service to his country, his community and his church. Why? Because he doesn't take what he doesn't need. I'd say we need a lot more people like him. He serves not because he has to but because it's the right thing to do. And you know what? He’ll show you his:
· Un-doctored Birth Certificate
· College transcripts
· Law degree
Sounds like a real scoundrel doesn't he? I'd like to see anyone present a similar history of Obama. However, you can't because it doesn't exist.
Staples employs mainly minimum-wage, part-time workers who sell products produced in China. It makes a lot of money for the execs and shareholders but does nothing for viable jobs. By buying products made by slave workers they keep costs down which makes the top execs happy and wealthy.
Your "no salary" comments are laughable. You also didn't mention his off-shore bank accounts. You also didn't mention his non-existant tax returns. Yes, Romney is a scoundrel.
rakesbill
Do you know how old Romney is and how old is Obama...Add clueless one.
Rakesbill- Thank you for that explanation of Romney's career, you are so right we need more people like him to serve our great country before it goes down...it is so scarey to think what could happen if Obama gets elected for another four years.
Now if only the Republicans could communicate their agenda to the American people and make their case clear, they are the worst at making their case and I am a conservative. It is all about fiscal responsibility at this point or this great country is going down!
@rakesbill, let's say , for example purposes only, that you, an American, go to China meet a woman from China and have a child that is born in China. Later you come home with your wife and child come to. At this point in time your child is not Chinese or American. When the child becomes 18 he must go to an Embasy and declare his citizenship. If he choses to be an American than he can be what ever he wants to become. Yes even President. If he chooses China it is another story. What would you want for your child? Remember if they become President that they will be facing people like you. Now for the biggie You are, "out of your mind ", if you think for one minute Romney work all those years for free. I can go back to Barry Goldwater who ran for President and didn't get it, He was a retired, I believe, Air Force Col. and he donated all his retirement pay to charity.
Hard to believe how completely ignorant you MSNBC sheep are.
rakebill,
Didn't Mitt, the chickenhawk, go serve his missionary in France to avoid the draft during the Vietnam conflict? I guess he is pretty self serving when having to make personal sacrifices
to rake above please most of those companies you listed, bain or romney were not in management or owners of those companies and most like staples, sports auth, burger king, toys r us,etc etc are all low paying to minimum wage jobs and co's like staples and others closed down small business co's mom and pop stores ie stationary and book stores, office supply, you have to add the losses to the gains funny thing about statistics you can get them to say anything by the varibles you input into them the gop is famous for this its not until you input all the variables into an equation do you find the real figures also called the truth
That is the best the liberals could come up with as a response?? Staples jobs are minimum wage, something about a child born in China and being a missionary in France? wow, you have a lot of work to do. Staples does employ minimum wage jobs, but they also employee many in the middle all the way up to the top. How do you think the Stores are managed? By a high school kid? How do products get to the stores? By a group of preschoolers on their red wagons? You guys are pathetic. no matter what the GOP does, you'll find a way to whine about it.
Go back to sleep. By the way, does a sheep count sheep when they try to sleep?
Natalie..he most certainly does, when he criticizes their policy and uses it to criticize Romney. He took campaign contributions from them and then criticized they way they do business? Integrity would seem to dictate that if you don't like a company who lays its employees off, don't take their money. The money he took from Bain could have gone towards employee salaries if he is so concerned about people being out of work.
Booker is toast. He back stabbed Obama with malice and forethought, in my opinion. From what I understand from press reports, he's a stooge for Wall Street and untrustworthy. He should "come out of the closet" by proclaiming his "love" for Romney and Wall Street.
I'm not really upset with what Booker said, because at the very least, he tries to quantify his comments, but that Harold Ford Jr. needs to take his ass back to Tennessee, where he lost his Senate bid. I think the GOP would be proud to have that turn-coat on their side.
All politicians love wall street. How do they go from making $150,000 a year to being multi millionaires in less than 4 years? Insider trading. Not to mention their portfolios are packed with companies like Bain. If companies like Bain don't make a profit, politicians portfolios go bust, even if it means laying off employees. Hypocritial of ANY politician to criticize companies on Wall Street making profits.
I agree with the previous statements. We need politicians who can think for themselves. When will Mitt Romney start thinking? Or is he thinking about taking money out of your pockets?
Go Obama!
Obama took $$ 5 TRILLION dollars out of your pockets, your kids pockets and your grandkids pockets .....and you want to give him more ???
Mitt Romney is still thinking...he just thinks one way this week and another next week...depends on the audience.
FLIP FLOP MITT
Mike in Delray
I'm curious, do you really imagine coming here and spouting conservative talk radio talking points will change anyone's mind?
How tiresome.
I enjoy how Libs call Romney a flip flop when Obama says I disagree with the idea of same-sex marriage as Senator in 2003 and 48 hours after his campaign donors threaten to pull the plug on funding over his vague standing on gay marriage (thanks to Biden making a solid stance on camera), he says his views have "evolved" and he thinks homosexuals should be able to get married. I guess to a Lib, Mitt is a flip flopper but Obama devolves and then evolves back to his previous state. Change the song guys. This one is getting old (and nullified).
Romney's views change within the same day. President Obama, like all of us thinking people, will look at an issue constantly and re-evaluate our position as circumstances change and more information becomes available. It usually takes months and years. Just like President Obama's view on same-sex marriage.
I LOVED this guy Booker. Thought he would be the second African American president. He blew it wide open. I cannot believe how STUPID he was and yet I can. Just read on another site where Bain gave him BIG bucks...so Mayor Booker you are so disappointing I cannot even say how much. Very upsetting to me because I just thought he was great. Not great, bought like most politicos in the country. Sad..this is the state of American politicos. Sickening! Perhaps the word is nauseating?
We cannot withstand another African-American president! Let's stay with the tried and true type---a Euro-American president.
Thank you spike, now crawl back into the racist hole that you live in.
Gee Spike, get out of Alabama much?
So Spike, I guess that means you really liked Carter and Clinton huh? Afterall they were white...oops, I mean "Euro-Americans."
Not like the last Euro-American President that started a war based on lies that got over 4000 Americans killed.
Mike in Delray
I really think that a lot of people need to go back to school to civic's class. It is congress that controls the fiscal matters for this country, not the president. If people have a problem with overspending, then it's congress that needs to be changed.
TOm he did attack then...and for party accused him of doing it to distract from his Lewinsky drama.
Perhaps if your attack dogs had just figured out what most people know...men like BJs and they don't feel like telling you or their wives if they get one. Your people spent Millions and millions to find that out?
I ciould have told you that for free.
But no, you set up Clinton using Paula Jones. And the American People saw right through it and did not give a damn.
But you lost two of yours.
Set Clinton up? right. You libs have yet to find a conspiracy theory you don'tt like.
Another liberal, agenda-driven post being masqueraded by MSNBC as "news"
Arthur, EVERYONE, GET THAT EVERYONE HAS AN AGENDA. Who doesn't have an agenda? Agenda is a set of values, principles and ideas that one thinks is better than other agendas and ideals. MSNBC News is INFINITELY better than anything Fox No News News ever puts forward. It is the height of insanity for Republicans to say that liberals, MSNBC or Democrats have some sort of surreptitious "agenda". It' s NOT surreptitious ... what is surreptitious is Republicans lassoing the brains of rightwingnuts to whom they will OFFER NOTHING to them as if they have a secret formula to ameliorate the nation's problems. THEY CREATED the nation's problems. A small 1% took a preponderance of the nation's wealth and middle America is paying for it but somehow especially in the south because they tie it to racism they get a chunk of the country to vote for them. America, the Republican Party is NOT about most of you! Get that through your head before you elect a JERK who is NOT about any of us!
And you think Obama is for the middle class? C'mon get real. Obama is for Obama and his cronies as Romney is for Romney and his cronies. I guess the radicals on both sides have almost won. They have certainly divided this country to a degree I thought I would never see in my lifetime and it is so sad. If we all don't stop bickering and calling each other names and other nasty stuff, then we the American people lose big time. And so we argue among ourselves on who is better than the next guy and who is out for the rich and who is out for the poor. All this nastiness is making our country weak and vulnerable and I bet the terrorists love it, because a divided America will be easier to bring down. We won't be paying much attention to the NEXT time because we are all too consumed with hatred for the "other side". It's such a shame and I get very upset to think of where we'll be if we keep going down this path. We as a country might not even exist anymore. So much for the American dream.
Sadly, if 30% of the people owned 90% of the wealth, the same jealous, envious, covetous whiners would still be whining, and waiting for their piece of the pie.
When are you crybabies going to realize that such behavior is a sin, and Obama is nothing more than a rabblerouser, who thinks that he deserves a bigscreen tv, while everyone else should be happy with a 12" B&W.
Natalie,
You really need to get a grip. MSNBC is the least watched "news" channel on the airwaves. If the interview of Maddcow's wouldn't have been on here no one would have seen it. Reality is a terrible thing to libs.
Wonder how much money it cost the GOP to get this small time mayor to lie like that??? Money can turn a man into a weasel in a heart beat!!
Besides the payoff the GOP might turn him into another Uncle Tom for them in the future like the guy from Oklahoma, a speck of pepper in a sea of salt!!!
I think Booker is bought by the very venture capital firm that the opposition is using and touting as their ticket to the White House. Booker did not realize that his comments would land on him like a ton of bricks as it should. One thing Republicans have done is make their party adhere to certain beliefs and if they don't they are booted. I do not particularly like that kind of jack boot mentality which forces its members to stick to one script BUT in this case this Democrat who stands with Obama is subverting the essence of Obama's main point where the economy is concerned and to counteract Romneybot's main qualification that he is a business guy because of Bain Capital. Bain Capital put a LOT of people out of work that's what Bain Capital does and they do it coldly and with uncaring animus while making hundreds of billions for himself. That is JUST what the nation does NOT need. Romney cares about no one but Romney and will do anything and say anything that is needed to advance ONLY his cause. A president? NO. A VULTURE capitalist YES! We have far to many of them that made the nation and the world very very very sick.
YOur post is certainly toxic, idiotic as well.
More proof, stupid is as stupid does, big foot in big mouth. Have a nice day.
We can use a straight up politician...It is NOT Romney. If the Mitt Romney supporters were worried about the rising national debt (still rising since Nixon) or worried about unemployment (gone from 10.7% down to 8.3%) then how will they feel when Bush/Romney policy goes full swing. More debt, back to job loss, and more taxes for the middle and lower class citizens. But hey its okay...I am sure all the Romney bloggers are the 1% protecting their overseas accounts.
Do you have any input on the original story or are you just using your posts to knock Romney?
Cory's problem is that he is very ambitious and he made the mistake of taking a stand in the middle of the road. He was attempting to be centrist and in the middle, when he should have stood up and done the job he was there for. Now he's a joke and a tool on the right and mistrusted on the left. He wanted to show that he is not partisan, but in doing so he made a fool of himself because of his false equivalency of Romney's record and the Rev. Wright story. It's better to take a stand and not try to pander.
haters. you guys are hilarious. why are you on this blog and not fake news.
Cory Booker has been watching too much CNN where Anderson Cooper and Wolf Blitzer refuse to call anyone out without saying "both sides are guilty of this". I saw the entire Meet The Press and it was obvious to anyone not interested in gotcha soundbites that he was nauseated by negative ads and the lack of discussion about HOW the real issues facing his urban constituents were going to be remedied. What he failed to realize is that by attacking Romney's Bain record, Obama was actually pointing out that Romney is asking America to believe he's "Mr. Fix-it" without giving any details as to how his Bain experience can fix America's woes. Romney may be great at downsizing and firing, but what has he built? Republicans want America to believe that downsizing and firing Federal workers while giving their biggest donors free rein to drill without regulation will fix America. It's "trickle-down" economics all over again, but some of us are sick of being "trickled" upon.
I suppose if you had a pocketful of money, and decided to start a business, you'd load it up with unaccountable friends and relatives and hire every local union to get if off the ground and profitable? That's the kind of trickle down you are presenting as a functional model.
The reason we, as a nation, are becoming more and more disfunctional, is because shedding dead weight gets us labelled as uncaring bigots, racists, etc.
Rather be trickled on than shat on as is the case with Obama.
I wouldn't mind downsizing the federal government.
you must be on royds
Dear Cory, I don't blame you for not knowing much about Bain Capital. You obviously have more relevant issues to deal with in your state. But going on Meet the Press and speaking as if you DID know -- what were you thinking, man? Do your homework before spouting off next time, ok?
For anyone interested, Bain is a type of hedge fund: rich people deposit money, and it's Bain's job to give them a decent return on their investment. They don't care about a company's products, their marketing strategy, R&D, or anything else. They buy the company, strip it of assets, and later sell it, all to maximize profits.
The question is, is this the background we think will lead us out of the current economic downturn?
Dear larrysteve: Of course not, It is just another form of capitalism. But to refer to it as "experience in job creation" is ludricous. There may be a lot of unintended consequences with this type of activity but job creation is not one of them.
@truthseeker47
You are so right - private equity / leveraged buyout firms are not job generators!
More accurately, they are "chop shops'. As you know, a chop shop takes cars, breaks them up, and then sells off the parts to make a profit. The car is gone...
PE/LBO firms do exactly the same thing to companies - they differ from chop shops in one and only one respect - car theft is illegal.
No, the car is not gone. Salvage yards and junk yards sell the parts to businesses and the public. The parts are used to keep other cars going. The left over is sold for scrap metal that is used to make other products. So you see just like Bain the company is either transformed to a productive company, sold as parts to other companies, or dismantled for which Bain would take a loss. But in Bain purchasing the company the orginal people get some of the money they put in back. If the company were just to go out of business not only the employees would loose out but the people who put their money into starting it would loose everything. At least this way most come out of it better then the alternitive. If Bain is sucessful then the company grows hires more employees, and Bain makes a profit, again win, win. What is the problem.
The problem is the money does'nt go into liberal pockets, cant have that.
Yes, 300Michael. The companies are gutted, machinery is sold, pension plans are stripped of their assets and the former workers are left wondering what happened. I worked for one of the largest PVC compounding plants in North America and we were told right up to the end that we had nothing to worry about. Never asked to make any concessions although we went through wage freezes, more medical costs and thought that it would help save our jobs. Who was the win-win for? Certainly not the employees. Dolt
I do not care what Mitt Romney had done?
But, I know that he got million dollars as profit also he helped his rich friends to become millionaire after closing several firms . He becomes super rich. Thousands employees lost their jobs & their security
Now, I am thinking, if he wins the election, he will do same thing - he will help his rich friends to more rich & we, the middle class people will suffer.
Please think before to vote what is good for the country -- not like again 2008 - stock markets, banks, jobs were collapsed.
And President Obama hasn't enriched his friends at our expense. I never thought I would see an American president come out of an international meeting and start to talk about his political opponent. He has used children, the old, and brave US troops to further his campaign. He went to Joplin, MO, destroyed a few years ago by tornadoes - have we rebuilt Joplin, so we've rebuilt Afghanistan and corrupt leaders. Joplin is rebuilding itself - we are Americans!!!!
What the hell did you expect Cory?
Seriously! Now he wants to get upset?!
I agree with Cory Booker here. The problem is that he is naive enough to believe that people should fight fair in an election and not dredge up old ghosts.
Society now tunes in to narcissistic and psychopathic tendencies that the past is now a big factor in the sizing up of personalities. Who doesn't remember Bill Clinton's propensity with the ladies or Bush Jr.'s straight A record for idiocy that pop out from the cradle?
The past matters in this hypocritical pseudo-Christian society that does not believe in letting bygones be bygones.
It's too funny that a sincere comment, that was disliked by constitutes suddenly needs to be retracted. Suddenly worried about reelection what a surprise, say one thing do another. To hold NATO in Chicago all part of the plan. You can have an opinion, but don't say mine is wrong, look at what we've got. A total mess, with one lie after the other, nothing to show for it. Can't say any election can fix this mess.
True, people just look at what is in it for them. Which person will give them the most of other peoples money. Funny they forget what a Democrat said years ago. "Ask not what your country can do for you, but what can you do for your country". By todays standards, he shounds like a Republican, not the Democrat John F. Kennedy. My how times have changed. Bain is one of the reasons I like Romney, it requires hard choices, to run that type of business, someting need now.
Your right, an election will not fix the problem! Unfortunatly I don't know what ever will.
Romney's tenure at Bain is fair game. He and his supporters are the ones touting his private sector experience there as the main evidence that he knows how the economy works.
Clearly, Romney knows how to make money. What is less clear is whether or not his pursuit of profits has given him any insight into how to make the economy as a whole function for the benefit of the maximum number of people.
Actually, never mind. It is really quite clear based on what we know of Romney's budget proposal and tax policies that there will be a select few who come out on top and the rest, well, he doesn't really care what happens there.
Maybe Romney would be happier if we talked more about how, during his tenure as governor of Massachusetts, they were 47th in the nation in job creation.
Don't forget Pardoning a Murderer so he could Murder again in California
Bain Capital saved jobs; extended the life of companies that would have gone bankrupt; created new jobs; and managed and grew Pension Plans too.
Liberals are just showing their ignorance when they repeat the same liberal rhetoric
over and over.
Tell that to all the people whose jobs were "offshored", and all those who lost their jobs when their once successful companies went bankrupt from the huge debt load imposed to pay the Bain "management fees".
Bain always made millions, even from those companies they drove into bankruptcy. The rare "success stories" were those that somehow survived the Bain bloodletting, they would have done better without Bain.
@paul-440967
Private Equity / Leveraged BuyOut firms are not job generators!
More accurately, they are "chop shops'. As you know, a chop shop takes cars, breaks them up, and then sells off the parts to make a profit. The car is gone...
PE/LBO firms do exactly the same thing to companies - they differ from chop shops in one and only one respect - car theft is illegal.
The companies were in trouble in the first place, before Bain went in. All those jobs were good as lost in the first place. Now most are sucessful. I wish liberials would get an education before they continue lipping the Libberal Line. But I guess they want even more food stampers, and unemployed to help vote for Obama.
Chop shops are also legal they are known as salvage yards or junk yards where they take vehicles and sell them to the public for parts. Suprising though is you have Liberals wanting to chop up banks, oil companies and other large sucessful companies and not do it to companies going out of business. Again always thinking (or not) in reverse to the real world.
Yes, those "liberials" that need more education including spelling and grammar so they won't be so "Libberal" in the future.
Misspelling and bad grammar: Hallmarks of the GOP-brainwashed right-tards..!
The GOP uses/abuses EVERYbody..!
For someone claiming to have the high ground in education you are remarkably stupid, the hallmarks of liberals are hypocrisy, narcissism and jealousy.
What drives me nuts is the amount of Right Wing Conservatives who received their education from student grants and other (OMG) socialistic policies. I exclude you in that statement 300Michael, because you obviously didn't take advantage of these resources.
Mr Booker's is Obama's boy! 98% of you are led by the political elite who manipulate you. Democrats and Republicans it doesn't matter. As with Booker and most politicians don't take them at their word they will lie whenever it serves them. God is your source people.
