Need something to restore your faith in America, amid the dismal economy, the war on women, and the vilification of government workers?
Check out this remarkable sermon by Pastor Fredererick Haynes, highlighted Monday night by Lawrence O'Donnell on The Last Word.
President Obama, Haynes told his congregation...
...swore an oath to uphold, protect, and defend the Constitution. Not the bible, but the Constitution of the United States. He is not the pastor of the United States. He is the President of the United States. And for the first time in the history of this nation, we have a president who is there to use his position to make the democratic promise available not just for a select few who are up and in, but for everybody, regardless of their race, their creed, their color, or their sexual orientation.
Inspiring stuff. Watch:
And you can watch the whole segment here.

The bible doesn't trump the Constitution.
It depends on what you're using them for. I wouldn't use the Constitution for religious matters & I wouldn't use the Bible for governing our Nation. They're both perfect if they're used in the right way.
The Bible is one of the most imperfect documents in the history of mankind. It's not a document,, it's a series of morality and fairy tales and mythologized accounts of endlessly revised writings from mere mortals subject to all the failings and preconcepts and prejudicial attitudes of human nature. What you will not find in the Bible are the words of Jesus Christ. In truth only a few words are historically annotated from Jesus.
I am not a religious person but I really enjoyed that minsters message about equality. It would be nice for more minsters taught about loving one another instead of tearing each other down...Thumbs Up!
Do you really listen to this guy talks? Sounds like Jesse Jackson and mimics Al Sharpton.
Whatever man, did you get the message? Don't let your "love" for Rev. Jackson & Rev. Sharpton blind you to the truth.
Listen to the words, not the cadence of speech, or style, or accent. You'll learn a lot from people by listening to their words, and watching their actions.
That's if you want to listen and learn. Or, you could choose to judge, pre-judge and stay in fear of that which is "other".
I am delighted to see a pastor step out from the large crowd of quiet supporters to address the issue head on publicly. It is time for the silence of the quiet ones to end and for them to get vocal. All forms of national hate and bigotry need to be countered effectively from our real religious leaders and I applaud this pastor.
Where are the WHITE preachers? How about the Rabbi's. How about the Priests? I am glad to see and hear this but what is wrong with the country that men like this are not in the media more.
This preacher restores my faith in America.
