Republicans on Capitol Hill had nothing but praise Wednesday for JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon—and even went so far as to ask him to be involved in future banking regulation.
Dimon was testifying at a Senate Banking Committee hearing today, over JPMorgan's more than $2 billion in losses after it made a series of risky trades.
Sen. Bob Corker (R-TN) told Dimon he is "obviously renowned, rightly so I think, as being one of the best CEOs in the country for financials institutions."
Corker added that the $2 billion loss was no big deal. "You missed this, it's a blip on the radar screen," he said.
"We can hardly sit in judgment of you for losing $2 billion," Sen. Jim DeMint (R-SC) offered. "We lose twice that everyday here in Washington."
But the Republicans went beyond simple praise. In fact, they virtually begged Dimon to get involved in drafting future banking regulation—as if Wall Street doesn't have enough clout in Washington already.
"We're here quizzing you," Corker said. "If you were sitting on this side of the dais, what would you do to make our system safer than it is, and still meet the needs of a global economy like we have?"
DeMint followed up and asked Dimon to come back next year to talk with them about the industry and "help us keep banking as a private enterprise."
Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), who appeared on The Ed Show with guest host Michael Eric Dyson, called it "quite incredible" that the Republicans were so deferential to Dimon.
"To exalt, and to praise, and to honor the head of the largest financial institution when he comes to Capitol Hill is beyond my comprehension," Sanders said.

The Federal Government is Too Big to Succeed. It would be great if Obama only lost 2 Billion. I think that just between Solyndra, Beacon, and ENR-1 Obama lost in excess of 2 Billion. The absences of transparency in the Obama Administration makes it impossible to know how much he has really cost us.

I am no longer surprised by any Rep behavior.
I am saddened & very angry about what is going on in our
country today. The entire world is watching. The only people who doesn't know
what is going on in Washington & around the country are those who choose to
be blind, the ignorant imbeciles in this country. Make no mistake world leaders
& their citizens are watching what we are doing to our first black
president & our first black attorney general. We teach others how to treat
us. We are teaching people around the globe how they should treat all
Americans.
Reps have succeeded in make most people here dump. They make
the public live in a bubble & even vote against their own self interest.
They vote for Reps who continue to steal from the poor to give to the rich in
the name of $billion subsidies & tax breaks. There is only one budget (one
pot). If you keep voting for "the wealthy" to dig into that pot every
time they want & take as much money as they what for themselves & their
friend (as Bush did) & start war any time they want to further enrich their
cooperations, then why ask the stupid question, "why do we have big
deficit." While they are cutting programs for the poor. Look at Romney's
plan & also the Raul's budget which he vows to follow. Even the Nuns
couldn't keep silent any longer & now they are speaking against Romney
& Raul's plan but I am afraid it may be too late. As much as Obama is
fighting for the people, I am afraid Reps are already enacting some of their ugly
plan to destroy the middleclass & the poor in this country & destroy
the fabric of this nation. We need Dems in both houses to stop them.
Now, they want Holder to resign for doing his job,
protecting voting rights from the Rep Governor in Florida who is taking
legitimate US citizens off the voting list & expecting Dems to roll-over
& not say anything as usual while he carries on with illegal purging. Reps
don't want anybody that will speak up. They've got the Dems running scared.
This is the most democratic country in the world. The world expect us to show
example not a disgraced Rep party vowing to take US citizens off the voting
list. Rick Scott should be in jail. Holder is also the only person who had the audacity
to stop the ugly gun program which was started under Bush, as soon as he found
out about it. Why did the Attorney General before him did not stop it under
Bush; why did Bush team even start it & why didn't these same Reps in congress go after them.
Why are they trying to destroy Holder for Bush administration's crime. Why
aren't the media & Dems outraged about this. Look at all that Bush &
Cheney did & got away with. If they were Dems &/or blacks they will be
in jail or at the very list be impeached. You know I'm right. The right-wing
always gets away. Clinton was impeached for nothing. Imagine if Clinton or
Obama did what Bush/Cheney did. Where will they be today?
In other to win elections, Reps have ensured that some parts
of this country is no longer democratic. They are also going after minimum
wedge. They pay you $1 if they want (some parts now have no minimum wedge).
They take out a democratically elected leader anytime they want without a
recall, Michigan; a dictatorship. If you don't think this is happening in some
part of this country, then you are out of touch. You should educate yourself.
They are beating Holder up in congress with stupid things. Their plan to keep
him busy & avoid him from looking into all these crazy Reps laws poking up
all over the country. They are destroying the fabric of this nation.
I am ashamed of Dems & the media, especially the media
for allowing Reps to get away with all these things. Cruelty & lies is now
Rep's norm & the media accepts it as norm. What a shame. Gone are the days
of good journalistic research to expose the truth. Today's media are lazy. They
don't want to do any research. They also admit it, without shame. They will
rather talk about sexual innuendos, photo twitters, than save our country from
radical Reps committing treason. I have to hand it to Reps, they succeeded in dumping
the country & getting exactly what they want. It took them 40yrs but they
did it. Their plan includes:
1. Reps create FOX news (start a powerful media outlet for
right-wing agenda & use it to destroy Dems, the government, & the very
democratic process, run ads against Dems, wiretap anybody you choose)
2. Reps nickname other media. Call the media of the entire country
"the left-wing media" (putting every past, present, & future
journalist on defensive mode. Therefore, when they try to run away from not
being called 'left-wing media', the entire media now sound like right-wingers.
The only place to get anything close to left-wing or centered is only through
comedy shows. Reps have succeeded in dragging the entire country to the right
including the supreme court, how sad). When you vote for President, you are
also voting for the type of supreme court you want, the most important court in
the land. Do you want it right, left, or centered. Unfortunately, ( Regan 8yrs,
Bush the father 4, Bush the son 8ys) Reps have produced extreme right-wing court. So, why are you
surprise that they gave us 'citizens united/money in politics/$billions' that
we see today. Where billionaires are buying Romney's hand in political marriage
to Represent only their interest. This is why wall street doesn't want to give
to Obama. They found Romney.
3. Reps dumb the country so they will not question Rep
motives (due to Reps advocating dumbness/bubbleness, now multitudes believe
that science is wrong, evolution is wrong, innovation is disobedient &
devil worshiping, compromise is wrong & a bad word, bipartisan is evil
& make-believe, being educated is being a snob, having a degree is wrong
& condescending (for yrs Reps use gov money to build & run dumb
"so-called" Christian schools all
over the country). Making Christianity a big path of gov. Ask Boehner, what
ever happen to separation of church & state? He invited them to use the
people's building to preach their hate. Reps are destroying the constitution. Don't
be fooled. They are not protecting it as they claimed. They are burning it,
hoping nobody will notice the smoke. The Bishops get $billions on tax
breaks/subsities, adding to the deficit. We pay for all the church crap. Why,
so they can preach their hate?
4. Reps change history books & many others to 'only what
you want the people to know.' A dictatorship.
Reps, you can change what is happening in congress at this moment. Stop
all the obstruction & your evil plan to bring the country down for having a
black President. look at what you are doing to Holder; trying to destroy him.
Stop it now. You do not have to wait yrs later to change the history books.
It's happening now & you can still stop it.
5. Reps maintain power at all cost & by any means
necessary (by redistricting, voter suppression, etc, & suppressing vocal
Dems). They have white supremacist groups on
payroll, ready to arrange a shooting when called upon. Let just say KKK
leader Stephen Donald, Rep Leader Chuck Gray, & Palin can tell you more about
the Arizona shooting connection than the gunman himself. Reps continue to shift
country's wealth to the wealthiest for secure finance campaign to maintain
power for generation after generation (call them job creators)
6. Allow NRA as much freedom as possible, arm all Reps with
guns. Have you ever asked, why they need so many guns. Reps don't want any
rules. Lets run wild. Sure! NRA leaders are now path of the legislative team in
America. A group that started so innocently to protect hunters. Now, they are
hunting citizens like animals. NRA & ALEC are destroying the country. Join
them by voting Rep as usual. Poor & middle class keep on voting against
your own self interest (voting for Rep house obstruction) & yet expecting
things to get better. Lets all go to hell. Who cares? Show me an empire with no
rules, especially about their banks & guns (money/weapon) & I will show
you an empire that it bound to fall. It will take us another 100 yrs to rebuild
what they destroy.
