Florida's former Secretary of State, a Republican, is saying he "didn't feel comfortable" carrying out Governor Rick Scott's controversial voter purge because the list he was using was so flawed.
As Michael Eric Dyson explained Wednesday on The Ed Show, Kurt Browning told The Miami Herald that it was clear to him the state didn't have a reliable list with which to conduct the purge, which is now the subject of a federal lawsuit.
"I didn't feel comfortable rolling this out," Browning said. "Something was telling me this isn't going to fly. We didnt have our i's dotted and our t's crossed when I was there."
Of course, after Browning stepped down, the purge went forward under his replacement, Ken Detzner. The purge, The Herald reports, used a DMV database that had "limited and often-outdated citizenship information that carried a high risk of making lawful voters look like noncitizens."
And wouldn't you know it, scores of legitimate voters have been tossed off the rolls—though many likely won't find out until they try to vote in November.

Is it just me, or did anyone else notice the string of hurricanes that hit Florida after the state assisted Bush in stealing the election?
Ya'll go ahead and steal another election, I like watching storms!
Steal another election?????
stupida: Why is it, you never have anything to say, but never miss a chance to criticize others. I've never met a Viet Nam vet with such a vile personality. Such a negative, hateful attitude toward others. I don't think you are from or in this country. Nothing you post indicates differently. You've never given ONE piece of possitive, useful information, and I suspect you never will.
This Gomer scott must be getting paid a bundle from the koch bros and robUs !!!!
Yes steal, i.e when gore is to stupid to contest an election so looses. That is called stealing. Just like lieing on your tax returns ala timmy tax cheat is called a mistake by turbo tax.
But I don't mind if obama is as dumb, won't hurt my feelings if he gives away the presidency, I will be relieved that he kept his word once in 4 years.
At least Gore doesn't believe in magic underpants or that carbon dioxide is safe to breathe.
Then why does he make so much of it? He flies the most inefficient polluting plane he can find.
Don't understand the underware, is that some jab at clinton writing them off on his taxes? He must have known about it, it was in all the papers.
I am totally horrified with the Voter Suppression efforts by the Republicans this year!!
These are attempts to address voter fraud. One of the arguments is that, while there are very very few documented proven instances of real voter fraud, how do you know there isn't voter fraud that you can't actually detect?
{This can lead to a discussion about the Unknown-Unknown ... or something. Or the corollary to Murphy's Law, "Just because things are going well, doesn't mean you are not missing something."}
At least - I think that is the reasoning??? whatever...
What this whole misguided, twisted, partisan, do-whatever-you-have-to-do-to-get-your-people-elected effort shows is the following:
We do not have a reliable way to identify - honestly and fairly - every citizen in the US. The flawed data they are trying to use in Florida illustrates this.
I have a passport and a driver's license. I was a registered voter in a suburb. When I moved (bought a condo), I automatically got a new Voter Registration card with the location of my new polling place address and everything. It was easy (didn't have to do anything).
BUT, we have too many citizens in this country that are --- what is the word --- invisible? unrecognized? undervalued?
What we need to do is NOT "protect" the "sanctity" of the voting booth by requiring a Photo ID but to make sure that every citizen of the US is recognized so that each of them has all of the rights and responsibilities of full citizenship. Work on this needs to start on November 7, 2012.
None of the arguments for voter fraud are real. They're just excuses so the right-wing can suppress the Democratic vote because Republicans are a minority in this country and they can't win an election any other way.
Not only are none of the arguments for voter fraud real, those arguments are a sorry excuse at a fraudulent attempt to justify requiring designated Photo IDs be shown at the precinct in order to vote.
As far as the possibility that some of the erstwhile registered voters might not find out that they were purged from the voter rolls without being notified in time to fix the problem would merely be another act of fraud perpetrated by Rick Scott, this time though, it could be an act of fraud for the express purpose of giving Florida's Electoral College "votes" to Romney by ensuring that Obama can't win. Thereby, stealing the Office of President from Obama.
If there were to be enough fraudulently purged voters to cover the margin of victory on Nov. 6th, for any office, that would be grounds for more than a recount, it would be grounds for a re-vote in the state of Florida for all of the offices affected (barring the possibility that the affected voters were allowed to submit provisional ballots, pending only until the wrongfully purged voters have their registrations restored) - but only after the wrongfully purged voters are restored to the voter rolls.
As for as I'm concerned, Gov. Scott has earned a change of residence to the Crossbar Hotel, with reservations he can't cancel. The most egregious case of Medicare fraud is bad enough, but knowing attempting to guarantee Romney a Florida victory, and the Office of President by extension through an even more egregious abuse of the power of the office of Governor that would still be illegal, even if it wasn't fraudulent, goes beyond simple impeachment, as he would be guilty of breaking federal laws.
Not only are none of the arguments for voter fraud real, those arguments are a sorry excuse at a fraudulent attempt to justify requiring designated Photo IDs be shown at the precinct in order to vote
Florida has had voter ID law for the past 22 years now...
You liberals are a day late and a dollar short on this one!!!!
realchris...that is the most ignorant comment I've ever read on this blog.
You are pathetic with that statement.
Republicans cannot win an election any other way...other than to steal it......................what a stupid thing to say. There are no other words!
You wait and see who wins Realchris..........
Sounds like you...(like Ed did before the Wisconsin vote).....are already starting to make your excuses for losing this November.
Why don't you concentrate on your candidate and the "great" things he has done for this country since he has been in office.......
.....instead of starting to make excuses why you are going to lose in November.
Liberals have been whining about voter fraud for years. The Republicans are going to fix the problem once and for all. Sleep till noon Democrats won't do it!!
And more non information from the circus clowns. Nothing to contribute, but never miss a chance to critisize others. Go figure. Empty air between the ears. Kiss a frog each one of you righties. It might improve your attitude.
Don't you mean "lick?"
Ed, Florida officials requested access to a DHS database which would have provided a much better and more actuate list, the request was denied. Using a small sampling from the Florida DMV database did however identify 100 foreign nationals had registered and that 50 of them actually voted. I have a problem with foreign nationals voting in our elections.
2ez2..4get........you don't want foreigners voting in our elections?
But you don't mind if we go and invade foreign countries now do you?
Obama/Biden 2012
Now there is a typical idiotic statement from a Democrat...
What does illegal citizens voting in our elections have to do with whether we have to protect our international interests or protect innocent civilians who are being slaughtered by a blood thirsty regime?
just saying...
Of course only legal citizens should be allowed to vote. The problem is every time republicans try something like this they prevent legal citizens from voting with their heavy handed approach. The government needs to come up with a way to accomplish this without disenfranchising legal voters.
They don't mind disenfranchising 5 million legal voters to stop a handful of illegal ones. A handful of illegal voters won't sway an election; disenfranchising 5 million legal voters will.
Reachris...another dumb statement....disenfranchising 5 million voters to stop a handful of illegal ones? What are you smoking? Does your parents know you are on their computer?
All states have voting laws. What makes you think the only illegal voters are democrats anyway?
Yeah pretty much. Every single election we always have this ddebate and we always conclude we need a national database that can be accessed at every polling place.....guess what the technology has been there for a very long time and yet no one really cares to actually do it
another example of this country seeing the problen and the solution and the leaders do nothing because they're too busy fluffing corporate donors
Guess he though it was bush invading libya? A democrat would never start a war, never happen......
They can't disenfranchise legal voters, you can fill out a provisional ballot and vote, then go straighten the mess out.
The criminal act is the false filing by holder. There is no federal election until nov, and that is way more than 90 days away.
With actual voter fraud at less than .0001 percent this is really a non issue. This is pure politics to rig the upcoming election. DemElizabeth, I agree with you. We don't need to invade countries with our armies to make them Democracies, just a few of the regular people come over here to get an education and then go back is enough, just slower.
I think voter fraud is how Scott got elected Governor. Who in their right mind would vote for that wild-eyed, goofy looking chump?
All you can do is call people names MJB. You are pathetic too. Why don't you concentrate on getting the message out how great a job Obama has done instead of just calling people names that you don't agree with.
The
Said by the true tea bagging republican with no principles other then to serve his masters. Tea bagging republicans are those descendents of the over seers and those thugs that mines, factories and big farms used to stop union workers from starting unions. They are very good at following orders because they, being the cowards they are, can always hide behind that good old excuse they were just following orders so they are not responsible for their actions. It also allows them to avoid thinking for themselves, taking responsibility for who they put into office and blame everyone but themselves for their woes. They are always victims of their own actions, but have a list of those they pass it off on, poor, minorities, women, gays, the elderly, the disabled, illegals, democrats, liberals, the media. They lose a job it isn't because of their actions but rather the actions of those on their scape goat list. We see it here every day, they just repeat the same old bull @!$%#, the economy didn't get bad until Obama took office, yeah just leave out the 34 years of bad GOP economic policies that they created on purpose. That is the tea bagged nation in a nut shell, whiners. Never a solution to a problem just whine whine whine.
Read this blog...the only people whining are you lefties. You all are ALREADY whining about losing in November and we are still over 5 months away.
You are already coming up wih excuses for losing.
All you do is call people names on this blog.
All you lefties do is whine, whine, whine....Just look at the above statesments.
No whining is when you have done nothing to better the situation that you find yourself in or you blame made up people for problems that don't exist or you blame others for actions that you did and they failed, that is whining. When you point out what is wrong with the situation and why it is wrong you are voicing facts that show that someone is doing something wrong for a reason that benefits that person or group the person belongs to. Which is called an opinion. Your problem is word comprehension skills.
Johnny~ Just telling it like it is...just stating the truth. That's probably why you don't recognize it, because all you Righties have sponges for brains to soak up the Fox excrement that spews forth daily from your favorite station.
Funny how 0.0001% voter fraud adds up to 500,000 ballots in wisconsin.
Well what do you expect you tea bagging republicans just have problems with math. that is your fault not ours.
Mark my words: This voter purge could tip the election in favor of Romney. And even worse, if we don’t stand up to these dirty tactics in Florida now, we will see the same devices played out in swing states like Virginia and Michigan. The stakes are way too high to sit this one out.
Click here to demand that the Florida GOP obey the Department of Justice and stop their illegal voter purge.

Your links are useless in this country.
If you do not live in Florida, then you have no say in the laws..
This is not some eastern european socialists country.
We here in the USA know you people in that part of the world hate the USA.
And it shows in ever post you make.
That's what the fascists are counting on. They sure as hell can't count on actual votes.
Stupida: I don't for one minute believe you are or ever were in the USA. You've yet to post any information or links, but critisize those that do. Kiss a frog.
I live in Saint Petersburg Florida, I have the Rays game on the TV, and it is getting ready to rain in my part of town..
Well at the momnet I have obama on the boob tube, but when is he is done bumpping his chops I'll flip back to ch 31 fox/sun sports network and watch the Rays play the Mets....
Of course Democrats are in favor of improperly registered or illegal citizens being allowed to vote in elections...it favors them. Talk about hypocrisy...
just saying...
Of course Democrats are NOT in favor of ...the rest of what you said.
I am a Democrat and think that ONLY US citizens who are eligible to vote should be able to vote.
I also think that ALL US citizens who are eligible to vote should be able to vote.
What makes me angry is that, in an effort to prevent an unknown number of in-eligible people from voting, the Republicans are deliberately threatening the ability of THOUSANDS of eligible US citizens from voting.
Hypocrites!! If the Republicans really cared about the "sanctity" of the voting booth, they would never - EVER - do what they are doing.
What a line of Bull$hit.....
You liberals, the economy is tanking and all you can worry about is what is going on in Florida...
Florida has had the voter ID law for the past 22 years now.... Wake up already
The economy is tanking because of the refusal by republicans to do their job and pass the JOBS Bill sent to them by President Obama!
Their obstruction will not be forgotten!

For the 51% Who Do Not Believe that the GOP Engineered This Recession...
Last edited Wed Jun 13, 2012, 05:01 PM USA/ET - Edit history (1)
Congratulations! 49% of Americans have been paying attention. They know that Republicans have set up roadblocks to prevent economic recovery for political gain. However...
Since the GOP and its CEO supporters have actively bragged about their efforts to cut jobs, limit cash flow and in general make our lives living hell, I have to wonder about the other 51%. Maybe they are too broke to afford a newspaper or cable or Internet access. Maybe each day for them is a struggle just to get by. If you know someone who has been hit so hard by the recession that politics has become and unaffordable luxury, please share the following. Because none of us---especially those who are victims of the recession--can afford not to vote this year.
For the 51% Who Do Not Believe that the GOP Engineered This Recession I submit the following into evidence:
1. “People Without Homes Will Not Quarrel With Their Leaders”
From the family that got its financial start selling the Union Army weapons that blew up in soldiers’ faces:
Correction: Note that Morgan's son and namesake was a Hitler backer (along with Prescott Bush) and a member of the coup that tried to get rid of FDR.
2. Anatomy of the Murder of the American Dream
The Bush administration actively aided the Banksters as they created the mortgage meltdown crisis. In 2004 the FBI said that mortgage fraud was rampant in this country. Bush’s response? Prevent state attorney generals from prosecuting the criminals involved.
When Eliot Spitzer tried to warn Americans in a Washington Post editorial called “Predatory Lenders Partner in Crime”
he was targeted by the Bush DOJ for malicious prosecution in the press---accusations that never panned out into actual criminal charges.
What does it all mean? You lost your dream home, because Bush wanted you to. And then, Bush rubbed salt in the wound by handing the Banksters who stole your home a tax payer funded bailout.
3. Capital Went on Strike
In the wake of the bailout that was supposed to boost up the economy by providing credit, the Banksters decided to stage a “capital strike”, meaning they refused to lend money even as small businesses---the ones that make good jobs in the U.S. were desperate for cash.
4. John Boehner Boasted About the Capital Strike That Was Keeping Unemployment High
John Boehner—who should know what the GOP is up to---said last year that the nation’s job creators had staged a capital strike. No, you did not read that wrong. He admitted—correction, he boasted that business leaders in the US had decided to stop creating jobs.
Again, you are homeless, jobless, living on your brother’s couch if you are lucky and on the street if you are unlucky, because a bunch of mostly Republican ricvh businessmen do not think that they are rich enough.
5. House Republicans Did Their Part to Keep Americans Unemployed
House Republicans admitted to voting against a jobs bills because they wanted to hurt Obama by hurting the economy.
Of course, it was the American worker who was on the ropes at the time when the GOP decided that it would be politically expedient not to lend a hand. So, if you are currently unemployed and out of benefits, the Republican Party is extremely pleased to hear it.
6. Republicans Embraced Fiscal Policies Designed NOT to Help the Economy or Create Jobs
How did the GOP under Bush spend our tax money? On tax cuts for the rich and military spending---the two forms of federal spending that are least effective at improving the economy. Massive tax cuts for the rich which decrease the government’s ability to spend are actually detrimental to the economy. The most effective way to stimulate the economy through government spending? Education, followed by infrastructure and health care. (See the links below). This is old stuff. Every businessman and politicians knows what is good for the economy and what is bad for the economy. So, if the GOP insists upon more tax breaks for the rich and more military spending and less spending on education and infrastructure and health, it can mean only one thing---they are following Grover Norquist’s advice, which is to drain the federal bathtub so that our tax dollars can no longer do us any good. Why does Grover Norquist hate us? He doesn’t. The lobbyist is simply looking out for his alcohol and tobacco customers who do better when we are despondent.
7. American Business Leaders Vowed Not to Lend Money or Create Jobs
At least not until Obama is out of office. For example:
And he was not the only one. If someone can remember the name of the CEO who called upon fellow business leaders not to create jobs or loan money during the Obama administration, please share it. Hint: I think he said that they would be "traitors" to their class if they didn't do all they could to keep the economy in the toilet.

What a bunch of one sided views.....
All Bull$hit.
Government dose not create JOBS!!!!! the "Private sector" is the place where jobs are created.
It is the regulations obama has signed into law that are keeping American Companies from growing.
But just listen to the ed show and keep your head in the sand.
Stupid...........if you are so 'smart', why do you have to make a comment after most of the comments here?
Attention all readers...........Stupid is a paid hack to throw you off the truth. Truly sad.
Obama/Biden 2012 ~Christians don't vote for Liars~
mitts mendacity/maddowblog
DemElizabeth.....you have no idea of what you are talking about.
First, the great jobs act from Obama didn't even pass the Senate and there was NO fillabuster by the GOP. The dem senators didn't want it because it was so full of crap. You didn't read about that part did you.
If all you can do is repeat progressive talking points on this blog....wow!
Why don't you just talk about how great Obama has been...........
........wait a minute. There is NOTHING to talk about when it comes to that.
Wake up Elizabeth.
Yes master, can I eat a bug master, anything for you master, johnny should just change his name to Reinfeld at least he would be honest then.
why do you have to make a comment after most of the comments here?
Attention all readers...........Stupid is a paid hack to throw you off the truth. Truly sad.
It's a free country for one thing, next you make comments all the time, and I am just expressing my views, and posting the facts.
Next no one gets paid to be on this blog....
And the great republican jobs act remains unwritten. deregulation is not going to help this economy. Why don't you just remind us of what Romney plans to do(nothing, he still won't tell anyone) or what assistance the GOP has provided...that's right you can't because they've been sitting on their backsides as much if not more than everyone else
that's why this election is 50/50 america knows they all suck
romney and obama are the same
Comment on my statement whomitmay......stop with the name calling. Is that all you people can do?
The statement was. Obama's great jobs act was dead in the dem controlled senate with NO fillabuster. His own people did NOT want it.
Would you explain that to Elizabeth?
What do you mean johnny you and the rest of the 3% that make up the whining republicans do it non stop. You just don't like it when your tactics are used on you. Funny how you just repeat non stop the same 5 Reagan lies over and over and over. When are you going to man up and accept responsibility for the mess you and those you voted for created. That was already explained to you johnny you just make up excuses and whine. Whining does not create solutions.
Comment on the senate vote on obama's jobs act? whomitmay.
Why that has already been explained on a number of topics since the vote. All you do is post Fox news fake outrage on the vote. Here is your clue, the republicans forced the vote on the bill, now think really really really hard on why the vote wouldn't be in favor of the bill and why republicans would force a Obama bill to go to vote. Remember the republicans have filibustered every bill Obama has put forth why would they all of a sudden force a bill to vote.
The last 2 bills obama has sent have receive ZERO votes!!!!
That means even the democrats do not like his ideas as well as the republicans...
Next the filibuster can not stop the vote nor the passing of a bill!!!!
Furthermore the filibuster has been around for a long time, started way back with Rome.
Hannity And Rove Pretend Democrats Killed Obama's Jobs Bill
October 14, 2011 1:54 am ET — 11 Comments
Sean Hannity and Karl Rove falsely suggested that Senate Democrats stopped President Obama's American Jobs Act. In fact, 41 votes were needed to prevent the bill from advancing, and all 46 Senate Republicans who voted cast their votes against it.
Rove And Hannity Suggest Senate Democrats Killed Obama Jobs Bill
Hannity: Obama "Blame[s] The Republicans, When In Reality, The Democrats Didn't Support His Bill." From Fox News' Hannity:
Rove Cites "The Failure Of The Democratic Senate Leader To Be Able To Get This Bill Through." From Hannity:
46 Republicans Voted To Stop Jobs Act; Only 41 Needed
Senate.gov: 50 Senate Democrats Voted To Advance Bill; All Republicans Voted Supported Filibuster. The Senate website states that a cloture motion on S. 1660 -- the American Jobs Act of 2011 -- didn't receive the requisite three-fifths majority needed to proceed. Forty-nine senators voted against the motion, 46 of whom were Republicans. More than 40 votes against the motion would have killed it. [Senate.gov, accessed 10/13/11]
AP: "Senate Republicans Have Voted To Kill" The White House Jobs Bill. From an Associated Press story headlined "Senate Republicans vote to Kill Obama's jobs bill":
The republican job solutions remain unwritten
romney and obama are the same
wake up morons
LOL a bill from October of last year LOL...
Stupid.......you truly are stupid! You need to learn how Congress works!
rick scott, i'm a democrat and a hispanic guy...i support what you are doing...democrats are desperate for any votes, legal or not.
time to start ignoring the obama justice deportment.. wasting tax payers money.
No you are not and no there is legal ways to purge Scott did not follow the law so therefore it is not a waste of tax dollars to stop an illegal action. There are no illegal people voting that is a lie Scott made up to hedge the GOP winning an election. Don't blame the democrats for Scott not filing his paper work on time.
Why cant the voters just go to the voter registration office and make sure all their info is correct. I personaly am going to make sure Im still elgible to vote. Most of the time common sense out ways everything else.
Not when dealing with repugs - commonsense is overruled by their mighty-dollar-god !!!
You have to remember we are talking about people who can't figure out how to push a pin through a piece of paper. With all that brain power you want them to remember what their name is or worse where they live. Now that is just way to hard.
To bad for you that you will find out in the future just how easy it will be for you to use your fingers when you get old. I mean really you keep posting right wing nonsense and believe you are posting at Free republic here is a clue Free republic looks like a 1997 web site.
Then why all the problems with the al gore vote, if they had just voted properly?
Fingers work until they don't, still doesn't stop you from pushing the required hole in the paper, you can even have someone else do it for you. He was wondering why, I gave the only answer that makes any sense. You have offered no other explanation that makes sense.
Since they are only purging non citizens and dead people there is no problem with any federal voting law, since they can't vote anyways. Much like the arizona law, it doesn't change federal immigration, it is the same, just on a local level.
I find it funny you don't think they can do it right, yet trust them to run your healthcare.
