Ron Paul supporters are making state-level headaches for the Republican National Committee, Rachel Maddow reported on Tuesday's edition of The Rachel Maddow Show. She ran down the list:
- In Clark County, Nevada, a member of Clark County Republican Party's executive board paid to raise a billboard suggesting that Ron Paul was the inheritor of the Reagan mantle, while Mitt Romney was cast from the same mold as George W. Bush. Clark County is the most populous county in Nevada by a significant margin.
- Ron Paul has won 21 of Iowa's 25 delegates to the Republican National Convention, and Ron Paul supporters have become the state party's new executive director and organizational director.
- In April, the Alaska Republican Party elected a Ron Paul supporter to be its new party chair. As a result, the current, outgoing chair urged party members to boycott the state convention, so Paul supporters don't have a quorum with which they can rewrite the party rules and give Alaska's 24 delegates to their favored candidate.
- Lastly, Ron Paul has won a majority of the delegates in Nevada, Iowa, Maine, and Minnesota. There's a chance he'll take Louisiana's delegates as well.
To make things worse for the RNC, more than 100 state party delegates from across the country are suing national party Chair Reince Priebus and various state parties in order to gain the right to vote freely at the convention.
"The Ron Paul movement has been seizing the Republican Party apparatus at the state level," Rachel concluded.
"At the end of the day, it's probably not a big deal," said Republican strategist Steve Schmidt, appearing on the show. "But it's a hassle to have to deal with." Uncooperative state parties, he argued, are nothing new in Republican politics, and the party rules are stacked in such a way as to keep the real power within the national party.
Real power accrues to groups outside the formal party structure as well, he added, saying: "Capital goes where it's welcome." Troublesome state parties become "clubhouses," while outside groups or county-level parties become the organizations to recruit candidates and raise money.

The RNC should be scared. People used to be required to believe the things the RNC and the media stated. These days, we have the internet. We are more organized than most realize. We stand for constitutional government, the rule of law. We understand that unconstitutional legislation is illegal on its face. This goes for the Patriot Act, NDAA, HR347, corporate bailouts and the list goes on. For some reason, we have allowed these things to take place despite our Constitution which does not allow it. The Patriot Act and NDAA go against several amendments in the Bill of Rights, HR347 which allows individuals to be charged with a felony crime for protesting anywhere that the Secret Service is, when the Secret Service does not have to notify people they are present. Sure, they guard the president, but they also go on detachments at the direction of the president. Regarding corporate bailouts, NOTHING in the Constitution allows for it. Read Article I, Section 8 - Powers of Congress and you will understand.
Bottom line, we are done with a greedy fraudulant illegal government. If you support corruption, back-door deals, illegal laws and states having their rights removed by the federal government, vote for Romney. If not, be a true patriot and join the cause. The cause to give your children and their children the freedoms they deserve.
I couldn't have said it better.
Couldn't have said it better myself.
This is FAR from over.
lol...insurgents ? get real. msnbc ...wow...pat yourself on the back, you are what is wrong with the world
Insurgents??? So now if your an educated and politically informed citizen, your an insurgent? Its time we start reigning in the abuses of power from the federaL GUBMENT. Our founding fathers warned us as to the deeds of a government that oversteps its bounds, and now we the people are paying for it with our liberties. You cannot give up rights for security...it will never work. our gubment is in bed with corporations, the fed is spending our childrens future, and we are being lawed, regulated and taxed into destruction. A goverment should fear its people, not vice versa. Obama, Bush, Clinton and many more have abused their office, our Constitution, and our monetary system, and our Congress has become hewers to the lobbyist power brokers. Everything is for sale in our gubment, and all rules being enacted are for corporations, and war proffiteers. Americans are slowly waking up to these corruptions, but they better get up to speed, because were on the verge of an oligarchy. We must dump most of Congress, and repeal their fat-cat retirement packages, so they "work" for a living, and for the better of the country, not the corporate elite.
While were at it, we need to revamp who contrrols our media...for they are the people responsible for the brainwashing and dumbing down of America...
originaldukes - I understand your frustration with the media. Unfortunately for you and me, they are a business and operate as such. On the bright side, we have the internet. It's only a matter of time before the networks see their end of days. That is unless bipartisan legislation is passed to regulate the internet. Of course, if Ron Paul is not elected, that's something we can count on. Under Ron Paul, internet free speech will continue!
Down with the RNC!!!
There is much that I like about Paul and his positions. If I thought his remedies for dismantling government were not too much, too fast to be practicably workable I would vote for him. I do not trust Romney not to be the pawn of wealth and power. The social conservatives are all wearing tinfoil hats, and the Tea Party are clueless, idealistic rubes. Where does that leave us?
but his plans don't even call for much government dismantling. In fact only his supporters and his advertisements seems to act that way. but if you listen to his long boring speeches he says things like, "we could lower the cost of healthcare for people, so that one day not as many people will medicare" or "we should pull our troops home, with the 600 billion a year saved *we spend 800 billion, 600 billion up from clinton* we can cut taxes for everyone and onyl raise taxes in times of war"
IT's not really all that radical, and even he's said most of what he wants done would not be possible, he just wants to steer the goverment in a new direction by aimming for what he considers would be the best remedies, he doesn't actully think he'll get them done in 4 years, he even notes Obama isn't a bad a president or the problem, he says bush and clinton and obama are the problem.
Not that you have to agree or vote for him, but ignore ron paul, look at just the message. And the candidates who will run under it in the coming years might just be more sane and less "radical" and be what we need.
Ron pual supporters say "DOWN WITH THE GOVERNMENT"
Ron paul ads and marketing say "end the fed! Down with the washington machine!"
Ron paul says "I think the government should start moving towards operating cheaper, stop spending so much money, and not let the fed print money without full transparency and approval from congress"
I'm not even sure how ron paul became what he did, i swear hes far more sane than he's come to be shown online and by word of mouth. I swear I hearthe craziest things about him or his positions. It's bizarre.
The status quo desires a Goldman Sachs vs Goldman Sachs election. Heads they win, tails we lose.
If the American people (or a segment that is paying close attention) decides we are weary of losing, that makes Americans insurgents? Is this portrayal of Constitutional Republicans an attempt to make us seem something disdainful?
How are we making headaches for the Republican Party? We are the Republican Party.
We may not be in bed with Goldman Sachs and the global financial elite, so is that a bad thing? The status quo and their bankster buddies have truly made quite of mess of things. We will be lucky to not have global economic meltdown or a world war. So if there's Republicans who want to return to the Constitution and restore sound money, that makes us insurgents? How ironic.
I might add, the Democrats who value the Constitution, peace and prisperity, may want to also start questioning their own party.
Hi Rachel. Thanks for your efforts to illuminate the true facts as they are. You are the only person I can watch on MSNBC. I like to get all perspectives on the issues and you generally do a objective and fair observation on events. Unfortunately, I guess your networks policies or leanings usually undermine your efforts. This guy admits that a "dysfunctional" party is only dysfunctional because they failed to follow what they where supposed to do. I.E. vote for the RNC forced candidate Romney. It doesn't seem to mater that Ron Paul pulls 5 - 10 thousands people to his totally ignored by MSM events, whereas Romney pulls maybe a few hundred. It is not acknowledged that Ron Paul has the only verified budget to reduce our deficient. No one is talking about Ron Paul's influence on the general direction of RNC talking points now. The same points he was ridiculed for in 2008. I don't get it. Anyway, keep up the good work.
Rachael - So far you are *the* only person in mainstream media that I trust, and I hope that Faux News, and the others continue to have record setting (decreasing) viewership and earnings because they deserve it. I'm afraid though that if you continue reporting the truth that you will be muzzled or released from MSNBC. Anyway keep up the good work. One question though-- did you have to call us insurgents? It makes us sound like terrorists, yet the "old" republicans are more like terrorists than we are. I've recommended you to my friends and family-- if they insist on watching mainstream media.
Racheal, Don't you find it interesting that there are more persons involved in the lawsuit against the RNC than mainstream media admits Ron Paul has for delegates? Would you please continue to report the truth, and while you are at it get more aggressive, you have more power than any of us to save America. I'm not asking you to be biased because I would be happy to hear the absolute truth.
Insurgents? I agree, that word is a little much. Insurgent these days means, when talking about foreign nations and our invasions, terrorist. Pretty soon these articles will read, "26 people disappeared from a constitutional political rally. When people contacted the executive branch of government regarding these individuals, the president replied that he does not need to disclose information regarding their detention due to the NDAA. Information later leaked these individuals were deported to third world nations for indefinate detention and interrogation. 43 other individuals at the rally were arrested and charged with felony's as the president dispatched secret service agents to the location. This is legal under HR347, and with a felony charge, these 43 people will no longer be able to vote."
Really, people still support Romney and Obama, I seriously doubt it! The election fraud is like a paper thin sheet of glass! I doubt either of them have 1/4 the support the media and political parties claim they have! And if they do, I guess sheep really don't back up that hard when they are standing on the edge of a cliff with the RNC behind them wearing hip waders.
This is not conspiracy, READ THE LEGISLATION THESE PEOPLE PASS!
Don't call me a (insurgent) terrorist for participating in the political process please, I am an American and I deserve more respect than that from your failing news organization. By the way, I get to vote for Ron Paul today in the Utah GOP primary :)
Thank you patriot!
Insurgents? Insurgents??!!
MSNBC, everyday we lose even more of what little respect we had for you.
You can't report a thing without skewing it to suit your own agenda (or whoever paid you) .
Get a life Ned Resnikoff! Try and be a real journalist, and stop licking the arse of your masters lmao
Love Ron Paul and the Liberty Movement
Honor the Soldiers: bring them home to defend our borders, not someone else's
Honor the Constitution and our Bill of Rights
Honor our children and create a sustainable budget for the future of the country
Get the neo-cons out of the Republican Party before they start more wars and sacrifice more of our brave soldiers for their selfish interests, further damaging the reputation and future of our country.
Insurgents? The use of such words to describe supporters of a US congressman, delegates in the GOP or whatever is libellous disgusting propaganda.
Hey, you noticed that MSNBC chose to give a voice to a Neoconservative. They hired that McCain-Palin guy. Leftists LOVE Romney and the other Neocons. Both love authoritarian Government that is controlled by Corporations. Anytime you see MSNBC talking smack about Romney it will always be about a blouse or a dog or something for good theater. It will never be about anything substantial. The Left loves Romney, that is why they helped Romney beat Ron Paul. You should also note that they never talk about Ron Paul believes. They don't want you to know what he believes in because you will agree if you believe in Civil Liberties.
The posters here do make me proud. Mainstream readers: are you still able to comprehend how different of a cloth these "Paulbots" are made of, or have your critical thinking skills disappeared altogether? Almost Every single comment here is informed, based on facts, and supported by critical and logical thought processes. "Paulbots" are indeed the new face of America - and the country will be far the better for it. They replace as yet unknown numbers of unthinking party loyalists and mindless news consumers. Good riddance!
The GOP has never been this afraid, they do not know what to do. They will do EVERYTHING and ANYTHING to paint Paul supporters as basically political terrorists. When the true criminals are the people in office that have been there for 30 years and are soo jaded to any change. They forget the PEOPLE got them into office, and only care about supporting the biggest paycheck (lobbyists). They get nothing from supporting the average joe, they look at them like ANTS. And they fear their job security, just like the DEA/Prison industry does if cannabis was legalized. Change to them is like when the dinosaurs got wiped out.
grandnationaldebate.com - Independent site. But still, it is far and away the best read on the Ron Paul convention and the momentum of his movement that is taking over the GOP. I really enjoyed it.
