After President Obama's announcement last week that his administration will deporting illegal immigrants who were brought to the U.S. as children, Sen. Marco Rubio derided the move as an effort to "[shove] immigration policy down our throats."
But on The Ed Show tonight, Rep. Xavier Becerra, a California Democrat and the son of immigrants, said the decision was legitimate and important. "This was leadership in action. The president came up with a solution, and Republicans right now are coming up with excuses," said Becerra. "The president is acting within his executive authority."
Obama's unilateral move bypassed Congress, which has come up with no comprehensive immigration policy since blocking passage of the Dream Act in 2010. Effective immediately following Obama's June 15 announcement, migrants that have lived in the country for at least five years, arrived in the U.S. before they turned 16, or are veterans or high school graduates, will not be subject to deportation.
Becerra also called out Mitt Romney for his evasiveness on the issue. "Does Mitt Romney look presidential when he's dodging the question on something very important to Americans?" Becerra asked. "For him to rope-a-dope and try to avoid having to answer doesn't seem very presidential."

After reading liberal entries endlessly bashinig the GOP immigration stance and praising Obama's as brilliant- it dawned upon me that they all seemed to understand the GOP proposal, but nary a one would ever state anything beyond the latest announcement as to the specifics of Obama's overall policy. I specifically asked what his policy was on numerous blogs. No answers, except a "look it up yourself". That made me suspect that Ed, et al, had failed to educate liberals on what Obama's proposals really were, and no one knew- just knew they must be brilliant if Obama made them.
So I did look them up. 1) apologize, 2)pay back taxes (most likely at the rate of zero with the extreme progressive tax structure in the US), 3) learn english, and 4) get back in line- with a toss the business owner in jail (always makes a liberal happy).
So I just posed the question on what they thought of this policy- surprisingly, not a single liberal thought Rusty's proposals (taken from Obama) were brilliant. It's the kool-aid that Obama serves- must be grape...
The democratic plan is to continue the things we've been doing under this administration because of the limited resources so that's secure border or rather more secure border which the president has done. It may not be enough but it is more than ever before in history which is why I laugh when Romney says Obama has intentionally put less resources there and made it less safe. The dems realize the nation wants and needs a path of legalization or reconsiliation to deal with not only those brought by their parents but for all illegals in general. Not for any humanitarian reasons, some on the left will say that but that's not why people support that idea. You'd lose the republican and democratic primaries advocating for amnesty, you couldn't get elected in any party with a view like that. So what the path is about is math.
Like it or not there are well over ten million undocumented individuals on extended stay, unlawful bodrder hoppers from mexico, people who haven't renewed things because they don't they have to or they just can't or won't...doesn't much matter......

Well fact is there's too many to handle right now. The GOP solution is at this time very much expressing strong, perhaps not majority because of the far far right, but at least sizable rejection of that and say deport them all now to the last child. We can't do that now, the government has the legal authority to do it but it's just not going to be possible in reality without hiring thousands of new agents or drafting law enforcement to the neighborhood level in finding these people so that means more federal workers. Romney's taught us his lesson from WI that we don't need teachers, firefighters, and police apparently since it's "big government" so they resist hiring new guards.
They want a border fence that's super high, electrified, drones flying overhead, cameras, automated defense cannons, terminator robots, a mote...a pony and ice cream.....lol....but refuses to think about doing anything to raise revenue. They demand the great wall of mexico yet they refuse to do something to pay for it.
Let's not even talk about the already overwhelmed detention centers, we'd need more, that's the government spending thing they demand not happen.
So really it's the GOP that has no reasonable plan. How will Romney improve the immigration thing and why won't he tell us? How is he going to pay for this fence he wants without fencing that fence from somewhere else....perhaps one of those places he sent american jobs to....lol....

If you want to stay here follow the path to citizenship already established by congress otherwise go home!

Those who criticize the policy change of the Obama Administration fail to understand that the Dream children are America's children. Once you reach that level of understanding and empathy, which is a difficult concept for a selfish conservative, you realize President Obama has morally done the right thing. I served in the U.S. Army for 20 years not to be rich and famous. I served to help preserve a system so that a President could make the type of decision last Friday that shows empathy, compassion, and even fondness for those who are often forgotten and abused by circumstances beyond their control. Last Friday we saw a real leader in the White House who really made a difference in forgotten people's lives. I hope President Obama keeps on making decisions in the White House just like he did last Friday.
