Mitt Romney responded moments ago to the Supreme Court's ruling upholding President Obama's healthcare law, calling, as he has before, for the law to be replaced.
"I will act to repeal Obamacare," Romney declared, adding that though the court had declared the law constitutional, "what they did not do is say that Obamacare is good law or that it's good policy."
Romney charged that the law raises taxes by $500 billion, cuts Medicare by roughly the same amount, adds "trillions" to the deficit. He added that it would force up to 20 million Americans to lose insurance they want to keep, and called it a "job-killer."
In fact, as MSNBC's Ed Schultz pointed out after Romney spoke, the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office has concluded that the law will bring down costs. And there's little hard evidence that it will cost jobs, or has done so. Nor is it clear how Americans who want to keep their insurance will be unable to do so.
Romney laid out the principles he thinks should replace the law, saying that Americans with pre-existing conditions should be protected.
"Gotta make sure that those people who have pre-existing conditions know that they will be insured," he said, in what might be seen as an attempt to tread a more moderate path on the issue than others in his party. But Romney's camapign has already made clear that he doesn't intend to require insurers to cover those with pre-existing conditions, so it's not clear what today's comment means.
Romney said that by electing him this November, voters will be choosing to "return to a time when the American people will have their own choice in healthcare."
Later Thursday, Romney's campaign sent out a fundraising pitch in response to the court's ruling.

Interesting article, but are you certain these are the accurate CBO numbers?
It appears that CBO revised its initial estimates, both raising Obamacare's price tag and its impact on people's current coverage...
People's current coverage and rates do not depend on the ACA. They depend on costs. That is determine by the AMA which dictates the rates providers charge. The insurance premiums will go up due to greed of the insurance companies and providers. But, people are smart enough to know the insurance companies will make up in the volume. It is a mandate. We all will have to have some kind of insurance. I think supply and demand will be in balance.
I hope people know which governors will adopt and which ones will opt out, and vote for their interests instead of against them. It is moronic not want to have affordable health care. We pay for the insurance of those in congress and senate. Why wouldn't we want to have the same?
Gee Mitt!! another unfunded liability created because you promised a new benefit without the burden of figuring out how to fund it..
This guy suck.. That's all...
Bad Law ? Because it doesnt benefit the 1%. Ramey is like a snake. No backbone and always talks with a split toungue.
Everyone should thank Mitt Romney for SCOTUS decision today. As Gov of MA, he implemented a universal HC program with a mandatory compliance therefore setting a precedent. The SCOTUS would have been hard pressed to rule that MA "Romneycare" is good for all the folks in MA, but not for the rest of you. The folks in MA had the chance to overturn it when Romney implemented it, but they chose not to. It was never challenged in court. And now they really like it. Mitt was for it before he was against it and he now wants to overturn ACA Ha!
Onward to single payer now and put the "for profit" hogs out-of-biz.
Thanks Mitt for helping Pres Obama get his ACA through!
how'd that go? If I said it? if I did it?
what we need now is a clarification from fox.................hahaha
I am glad that the health care law is passed. Romney and all the other 1% can afford to pay for their health insurance. Yet when they get of age they benefit from Medicare.
Everyone whole have the same benefits.
That is right. You cannot turn people down with pre-exes but you do have to have a way to pay for it.
Plain logic will tell you an insurance company cannot sign someone up for $300 a month and then turn right around and pay over $300,000 for heart surgery. That is just an example. A company cannot stay in business long. That makes sense.
I think the problem lies with the COST of health care....not so much how a person will pay for it. I think hospitals, etc...charge way too much. To me, that is the problem. Until we get the actual costs down...I don't know what the answer is.
I do know that companies...even if it is run by the US government cannot provide everyone coverage at low rates, no matter how sick they are. That is just plain logic.
We do need an overhaul....but not Obamacare. It is bad for businesses....and it has some scary bad stuff in it.
I am certain that when Gov. Romney is sworn in in January, that you will see a logical approach to this problem. That is what I am praying for.
yah I know, the Cliff Drive plan of Ryan is just the answere. Romney, Ryan plan....your right....pray ya don't get sick..........
Dream on! Your snake oil salesman will not be elected. The only thing he has going for him is that he is white. He expects us whites to vote for him. Well it aint gonna happen. Obama Biden 2012. And by the way, you need to understand the Healthcare law before you talk about it. Clearly you dont.
White Floridian
Jo/hnny, if you would read about the mandate is all about, you would see how it is paid for. Example, if you wanted to buy something that cost $10.00, that would be your cost but if ten people shared the cost then it would only cost each one $1.00. But I do agree we have to do somthing about health care cost.
Someone must have told Romney what he thinks of this.
The repubs are in the middle of a dog and pony show. They take a vote in the House, it has to go to the Senate where it will never come up for a vote, and the jerks in the House thinks the President will sign a bill to repeal his own health care law. Nope, don't think so. It is the law of the land. IGNORANCE. Rand Paul is really sick in his head. How this man ever got elected still boggles my brain.
Now they are taking a vote on a contempt of Congress on Holder who is the head of the DOJ and he is suppose to hold himself in contempt. Can someone please tell all of us lay people how this works?
Betty~ It seems to work any way the Republicans want it to. The Lebanese Sleaze is calling all the shots. Every time I have to look at Issa I feel nothing but contempt!
Well, there is a God after all! Let's hope sense will continue to prevail ... I grew up & lived in the UK for over 40 years, and NEVER PAID A PENNY for ANY healthcare - doctor visits, hospital - emergency or surgery - and as for deductibles: do me a favor! Yes, we did pay somewhat higher taxes, but that added up to FAR less than what it would have cost me for hospital treatment. I can't BELIEVE how so many citizens here think universal healthcare is such a lousy idea. Almost every other developed country in the world thinks it's great - the only answer for a civilized society ... sorry I'm going on like this, but I get so exasperated by the miinformation folk are continually bombarded with so that they'll continue to make health insurance fat-cats fatter, and fatter, and FATTER ... while they themselves get sicker, and sicker, and SICKER ... even unto death ... Socialized medicine just means medicine for society, right? By the way, in the UK, if your well enough off, and daft enough, you can STILL buy private health insurance. But naturally, most of the UK's "1%" happily take the freebee! Shall we raises a glass on this great day for common sense? Toast: Here's a health to ALL!
"I grew up & lived in the UK for over 40 years, and NEVER PAID A PENNY for ANY healthcare "
Phil....You're going to get along just fine around here!!!! You've got a lot in common with American liberals.
A campaign idea.
From now on, progressives/liberals, never use the term ObamaCare. Instead use the term ObamneyCare (as per former MN Tim Pawlenty). This will tie Romney to the ACA in a way that will be hard for him to wiggle out of.
Between ObamneyCare and Bain, Romney will drown in his denials of his accomplishments. This will be more effective than the swiftboating the Republicans pulled on the war hero John Kerry. It is so Karl Rove but not in a lying, mean way, just sly.

It is outrageous that Romney does not have the guts to accept the only good public policy he introduced in Massachusetts ( Romney Care)because he desperately wants to be president. He is a liar and not good for America.
The health plan probably will be one of the best policies congress has produced during this century; the Republicans however can’t stop from lying to American people about the plan. Republicans need to accept the fact move on and work with their Democrats partners to improve the health plan for all Americans, since it is now law of the land. My opinion, the Republicans don’t give a crap what is best for the country as long as they satisfy the 1% and make President Obama a one term president, while the American people suffer. Stop being cry babies and do what american people sent you to Washington, move this country forward not backward.
Mitt Romney is ignorant of the fact that The Supreme Court is not an entity who would give its opinion on any case brought before its Court, whether is is a "good law or a good policy". As information to you Mr. Romney the SUPREME COURT is only there to INTERPRET THE LAW not give its opinion. If to your opinion the interpretation was against your own, you may challenge the Court or SHUT UP. Oh, in addition to that, you will adhere to the letter of the law whether it is for or against your will, or suffer the consequences. It is ironic to see a person running for the highest office of this land and not know such simple facts of governing. Mr. Romney, I would suggest you go back to school and learn your US Government and US History and Political Science 101.
How can Republicans stop lying about health care, when they can't stop lying about anything. It the only way they know to push their agenda.
What you have in repubs' is a fundamental belief that frontier living in the modern-age is the way things ought to be. You are supposed to have only what you can take from repubs' cold hands (that is, by hook or crook and the point of a barrel). Repubs' believe this.
Nevermind that Mr. Lincoln was an "old-school" Republican-a genuine heart-felt type of man who lifted us up, fought for unity over division, and did so in much the same political climate we find upending society today.
For those who say we want what's "theirs". Oh no!
Progressives don't want Repubs' stuff, nor do we want repubs' wealth. What we want is correct governance which actually does not let the masses stagnant and live static existences (cir. 1880-1900). Progressives want Change! We demand real Change! And, we intend to have Change within this lifetime!
