Lt. Col. Tammy Duckworth said it was "irresponsible" for Rep. Joe Walsh to question her military service, telling MSNBC's Ed Schultz on Tuesday that "for Mr. Walsh to denigrate military service is very insulting, because he's using it for his own political gain."
Duckworth, who is running against Walsh (R-IL), lost both of her legs while serving in Iraq. Walsh evidently questioned whether Duckworth is a "true hero" because, he says, her twenty-plus years of military of service are "darn near all" she talks about.
Speaking on Tuesday's The Ed Show, Duckworth that it was "irresponsible" of Walsh to talk that way about military service. "Our 23 million veterans have done more in one day in uniform than he's done for this country," she said.
"He's trying to muddy the waters," Duckworth continued. "He's just trying to shift the focus away from the fact that he's done nothing for the people of the district. He's irresponsbile in his words and he's irresponsile in his actions."
Duckworth added that Walsh has "done nothing in his two years in Congress other than be an extremist loudmouth for the Tea Party."

I've been disgusted ever since I read the first attack put out by Walsh. Does this man have a brain? How about the voters in his district?

Well I have to disagree with the idea that Joe Walsh has done nothing for this nation. Joe Walsh has done somethings for the country, it's just that those things are worthy of great contempt. Adding to the partisan hate climate on the hill. Not paying child support and trying to use his adding to the partisan politics as an excuse to not be in court to answer for not paying child support. Now this.

Joe "Deadbeat Dad" Walsh certainly wouldn't last long under a code of ethics where thieves have their hands chopped off. Walsh would have his tongue cut off in such a society (and likely his hands would follow soon after, so he couldn't lie by using ASL or typing).

But the Joe Walsh who claimed that Tammy wasn't a real war hero because she talks about her time in service "too much" is a despicable excuse for a human being.
I have uncles who fought in WWII and Korea, and many friends who fought in Vietnam. Fortunately, all I had to deal with was the Cold War while I was stationed on a Fleet Ballistic Missile Submarine.
There's a very genuine reason why most of veterans don't talk about their experiences. Namely, because War is Hell and is too horrific of an experience for them to even think about - without evoking a PTSD episode. The obvious conclusion being that talking about it would be at least as horrific - making them relive an episode from their past they wish had never occurred.
While some veterans manage to survive war relatively unscathed, as in no PTSD, or PTSD that they've learned to control, so as to diminish the effect, the experience is still very much a part of them. I met a guy, named Roy, at Ft. Huachuca who was in Special Forces during Nam who came back with 4 Purple Hearts. He told me once that he was at home; his wife came home on a Sunday afternoon with some friends to watch China Beach with some of her friends. Roy's next memory was of getting out from underneath his bed, diving under the bed was such an automatic response to the sound of gunfire that Roy didn't remember the TV being turned on, or actually diving under the bed. At that moment, it was as if he were back in Nam.
At any rate, those men, and more recently women, who are able to talk about their war experiences are doubly heroic for being able to talk about their horrific experiences, for those people who are younger have those veterans to learn from first hand, to find out that War is Hell, and should be avoided, as much as possible, in favor of Diplomacy. [As a matter of fact, some of the remaining survivors of the Bataan Death March, who have remained silent until recently, only started to talk about their experiences because they felt an obligation to make certain that people in their grandchildren's cohort learned about what happened from someone who was there, to ensure they learned the truth about what happened, rather than a whitewashed account of what happened.
These guys and gals that were elected into office in Washington and the State houses from 2010 till now needs to be brought down, they think they can do anything or say anything they want to and get away with it, they have no concerns or idea what being a patriotic member of our nation means, because they think they are protected by all the billions of dollars from the top 1%. The way Walsh and other are berating our vets is not only wrong it is against our beliefs. I hope the vets really get it together and replace each and every one of them and destroy them and that the only friend they will have from now on is the beer they will be crying in at last call

I do not know how Joe Walsh and Chris Christie think this is he way you land votes. Joe Walsh talks to his constituents like they are dogs and then talking about our Vets. Just think the Armed Forces are voluntary. Maybe if this clown Wash would have been drafted into the service his mouth would not be on overload. OK, I'm a dyed in the wool Liberal, I love the Ed Show, I almost always agree with everything he says, but, about this Walsh guy, with whom I'm not current, and I don't know anything about the race he's in...all I know is that in the clips that were played he denigrates his opponent for TALKING about her military record. That's all. I don't see where he disrespected her military record, or where he disrespected veterans. He said, whether or not it's true (I don't know), that her military record is all his opponent TALKS about, and that someone's military record, however stellar it might be, is not a reason to vote for him/her. This country has voted people into office based on their military record before, sometimes happily (Eisenhower), sometimes not so (Grant), but however they turned out politically, it had little to do with their battlefield sacrifices. It seems to me that that is all Walsh is trying to say, and it seems that we're all shouting him down while missing his point.

The only point that Joe Walsh ever intends to make is that he hates everything about the United States of America. Walsh, whose only claim to fame is that he's a dead beat who defaulted on his mortgage simply because he didn't want to pay the debt; he's a wife batterer; he abandonned his children; he refused to pay child support--until, that is, he was threatened with being jailed. This man insulted very man and woman that has put on the uniform of this country's military. It doesnt matter if it was in time of war or peace that they served it was the idea that they stood up and said I want to pay back what others did for me and what this country has given me. I spent 5 years 63-68 in the USAF and sometimes I will talk about my service and I feel any service person should be proud of that time and let people know it. To served one's country is the way people show their love of country, and not just waving a flag and saying USA#1 and posting all the patriotic stuff that is going around on the social media these days. A true patriot is one who serves his country not only in the military service , but those who stand up and protect our freedoms and freedoms of other no matter of race, color or creed, and do this silently day in and day out by their deeds and actions
