A pro-life group failed to collect enough signatures to add a measure to the Ohio ballot that would alter the state constitution to say human life begins as soon as an egg is fertilized.
The change in language would impact not only women's abortion rights, but could also have implications for stem-cell research, some forms of birth control, and in-vitro fertilization.
Roe V. Wade ruled that abortion is OK up until the moment a fetus is able to live outside the womb (about 22 to 24 weeks), upholding a woman's right to choose whether to keep or terminate a pregnancy in that time. However, that hasn't stopped pro-life groups from trying to chip away at this right through various state-level restrictions, including the time frame in which an abortion can happen. The "personhood" movement led by the Christian group Personhood USA is one more attempt to claw back Roe V. Wade.
Personhood has attempted to add similar amendments to ballots in states across the country, succeeding in some cases. It has yet to get voters to pass those amendments in any states, but it doesn't look like that is discouraging its leadership.
"Wait and watch us grow. We're like a weed," Keith Mason, the 31-year-old founder of Personhood USA, promised in a recent interview with Newsweek.
Personhood Ohio collected only 30,000 of the 385,000 signatures needed to put the question to voters in November.

I do wish that all of these pro-life groups would change their focus to being pro-birth control use. Reducing the issue by reducing the cause, makes far more sense.
Again these pro-life extremist want the country to follow their own religions beliefs. I want a country where freedom of religion is ALSO freedom from religion.
This will only be possible when reason and respect return to America!

A little note about Mitt Romney and abortion. Romney was once pro-choice. Until is was politically expedient to be otherwise. Now, he's "pro-life" and "anti-abortion" -- except when it's FINANCIALLY useful to be otherwise. Romney has once again proven himself to be a liar and a hypocrite, the kind of good republican who will say anything, do anything, and harm anyone to achieve financial or political gain. One of the latest examples of Romney's hypocrisy is the recent revelation that "anti-abortion" Romney invested approsimately $80,000 in a corporation that disposes of aborted fetuses. From that initial investment he's reaped at least another $50,000 in profits. Yup! Mitt will lie about anything. And if he's lied about his profiteering from abortion, what else will he lie about? One reason he won't release his tax records is that he doesn't want the American people to know where and how he's invested him money and the extent of his ill-gotten gains.
i just want to say little further than what we have been talking about. All women at any stage, must have a choice to chose whose child they will bear, when and how. She must have a choice to terminate the pregnancy if her life or the life of the unborn child is in danger of any type. I know that no religion will accept this because all the religions are male oriented and dominated. I know that this will have implication on fabric of society as it stands today, which i believe is a prison of sorts. As soon as the child is born we put him or her in shackles of "do and do'nt" and the prison walls grow. This fabric must change and the society will get rid of many ills of today's unworkable marriage system and crime against women.
