Sen. Dick Durbin continued to pound Mitt Romney for the secrecy over his finances, asking Ed Schultz Monday: "Why would we stand for a person running for the highest office in the land concealing important elements of their own investment decisions? He says he's a great businessman."
Durbin appeared on The Ed Show to talk about Romney's solitary income tax disclosure. President Obama has released records going back to 2000, and Mitt Romney's own father, George Romney, released 12 years of records when he ran for president in 1968.
"It's the least amount of disclosure of any presidential candidate of either political party in the last 36 years," Durbin, an Illinois Democrat, said.
A Vanity Fair article this week described Romney's Swiss bank account and other secretive holdings in off-shore tax havens. Durbin, who has proposed a bill to crack down on offshore tax havens, said he'd been asking around to understand the purpose of such arrangements.
"I have asked business leaders, I have asked Republicans, I asked Warren Buffet the following question," added Durbin. "Why would anybody need a Swiss Bank account? Warren Buffett said: 'I've never had one, I think we've got a lot of great banks in America.'"
"There are two reasons to have a Swiss Bank account," Durbin continued. "To conceal your wealth and transactions involving your wealth from government scrutiny, number one. Or, number two, because you happen to think the Swiss Franc is a stronger currency than the United States dollar."

Governor Romney's dad, when he was running for president, basically said any moron could come up with a years worth of returns and make it say anything they wanted. So he went all unprecedented and released 10 years worth.
Mr Romney doesn't seem to have learned a lot from his dad integrity wise, but maybe he is actually listening to that advice by NOT releasing more than 1 year?
I also know George warned about the growing military industrial complex, and lost the vote much because he said he had been brainwashed by the Generals in control of nam, and he was wrong and we simply had to get out.
George Romney also walked out of the 1964 Republican National Convention to protest the Republican platform plank against civil rights legislation.
It seems Governor Romney learned everything from his dad what not to do to win an election, but ditched the whole 'integrity' lesson along the way.
Yeah and Barry's mom walked away from his Dad, so your point is on family and lessons learned?
UnReal said something that matched their screen name, unreal.
Life lessons can always be learned and especially from our own parents or family. Barack learned a lot as you see he became POTUS, something only a very very few people have ever achieved, and did that with moving a lot, including different countries, and coming from a single mom environment. I'd say Barack has learned a lot. Romney on the other hand, has not seemed to have learned life's lessons especially one from his parents.
What IS Mitt hiding? And why is that ok with you?
Don't we all have to keep our back tax file for the IRS? If the IRS guy showed up to my front door and I refused to present them, what would be his recourse? Would I get off scott free?
WHY DOES WILLARD THINK HE DOES NOT NEED TO COMPLY????
The new questions should be Why Dont Mitt Romney trust American Banks with his Money??
Obama showed his.....Mittens needs to do the same...America is watching and wondering...
!
Mitt Romney is a billionaire that doesn't want to spend one dime of his money on his own election! If everybody knew how much money he had, even the Koch brothers would stop giving!
Obama/Biden 2012 For Decency and a True America
They are not just giving Money, they are BUYING the country!!!!!!!!!!!!
So what! George Soros has given millions of dollars to Obama and liberal causes. obama has destroyed the economy, saddled us with the obamacare monstrosity a (the IRS are hiring thousands of more Gestapo agents as we write to enforce the law) and put us 5.1 trillion further in debt. I am willing to give ANYONE else a chance rather than have obama in office another 4 years.
Why are you, libs, Ed, and MSNBC so loyal to obama? obama is an incompetent failure as president who has to use any tactic except his record to run on! Why are you so against Governor Romney? Because he is rich? Because he ran a successfull company?
Obama for decency and truth??? He has done nothing but lied since elected president
Why are you on Ed's blog spreading Fox news fake outrage trying to pretend Obama and Soros are worse them Mittens and his billionaire while ignoring that Soros is not giving millions to Obama.
Excuse me, I didn't know you had to agree with Ed 100% of the time to post here! Now I know where you stand on freedom of speech!
I do think obama is worse then Romney. I thinks he is the worst president in the last 50 years. Considering how bad Carter was that's pretty bad!
Why do you support him? Because he is a Democratic president? Or maybe because he is a black president? It can't be because he is a GOOD president! You can't believe that no matter how misinformed you are!
DEMElizabeth...
Is there a law that says Romney has to put his own money into the campaign? If people across the country are willing to donate over $100 million last month, why should he have to put his own money in?
and how much of his own money has Obama spent on his campaign?
just saying...
Of course there is no law.
It requires a backbone, honor and integrity to do the right thing and show the very people he wants to govern where is money comes from and where it goes, but not a law.
Mitt Romney obviously possess none of these personal qualities, yet he wants to be President of our country. He is hiding the truth about his finances and lying to all of us. It makes sense tho that you would want a man like this to be leader of the free world.
as opposed to the man who has spent millions of dollars preventing anyone from seeing any of college transcripts or thesis papers? What is he hiding in those that he does not want anyone to see?
Can you prove that Romney has lied about his finances?
just saying...
Hey Stormless..........what the heck is up with this 'college transcript' mess? How ludicrous!
College transcripts up against TAX returns? NO resemblance, as a matter of fact, President Obama's transcripts have the same letterhead as Romney's. Are you accusing Harvard of LYING for a student? You all, who listen to the crapola and slop from F---news are pitiful! Just plain pitiful!
Obama/Biden 2012 Forward with Decency and True American Patriotism
The only things I would elect republicans for is to clean the scum from the bottom of cesspools and to collect dead carcasses of animals from the road ways, it is the only 2 jobs republicans are fit to do. It is rather amusing to hear a republican say government don't work then spend millions to get elected just so they can prove how bad at running the government they are. Right you think Mittens is better then Obama because like a good little Eichman you do as you are told. I guess you forget all of your posts in the 2 past years saying Mittens was a piece of crap, now all of a sudden Mittens is the best of the best for the GOP, that is so amusing watching you spin yourself.
Just keep ignoring the outright destruction the GOP has caused this country during 8 years of the Bush administration, keep saying "we don't wish to acknowledge that", keep ignoring the fact that for 4 years the GOP has sat with their arms folded and refused to cooperate on ANYTHING while Obama tried to reverse what they have done and are continuing to do without any help from half the government, keep saying he should have dealt with all American manufacturing being sent out of the country, and recreated 100 years of American manufacturing in 3, ignore the fact that at the State of the Union message when Obama said he wanted to create American jobs in America, the Democrats applauded while the ENTIRE GOP sat stone-faced with their arms folded, showing WITHOUT A DOUBT they are unalterably opposed to creating jobs in America, keep ignoring the fact that during Bush's reign, the richest 1%'s income increased by 275% while the rest of the country's increased by 18%, had their jobs sent to China, and then while they were out of work told it was THEIR FAULT and since they no longer had jobs and couldn't pay their mortgages, they had to lose their homes as well, and now they are bums and hobos, and your arguments make perfect sense.
Outright destruction? We have gone further into debt in 31/2 years with obama and the Dems then with we did with 8 years of Bush as president! The democrats had total control of the goverment for the first 2 years obama was president and the only thing we got was the expensive obamacare shoved down our throats. keep ignoring THAT!
The reason the Republicans sat on their hands is they know obama is all talk. The have sent dozens of jobs bills to the Senate but dimocrat Reid won't allow them to come up for a vote. You don't hear that from the MSM and especially not MSNBC! Republicans have tried to work with obama and the Dimocrats but their attitude is 'my way or the highway' and then obama goes on TV and talks some BS about an SUV in a ditch and Skurppees. What an incompetent he is and how stupid the people who support him are! He spends more time golfing and hanging out with celebrites then actually doing his job! Anytime he is on TV talking his BS I have to change the channel. I can't stand listening to his lies anymore!
The reason jobs are leaving this country is the corporate tax rate here is 35%, it's 20 - 25% in China and most other countries.
obama said the expensive stimulus package would cut unemployment to 5.5%. We are still over 8%, 16% if you count the people who ran out of benefits, stopped looking etc. Keep ignoring that!
When the Republicans tell people it was THEIR fault for being out of work? More lies! That sounds more like obama.
Governor Romney said if elected he would cut the corporate tax rate to be competive and cut job killing regulations and repeal company killing obamacare. I'm sure you are against that because the rich might nake more money even if it does create a lot of jobs.
Please list any company that pays 35% tax rate. Take your time there must be one somewhere.
Notice sticks to that good old Reagan lie that taxes are punishment for being rich. You would think they would be smart enough to figure out that Reagan never said one honest thing in his life, except he didn't like Facts because they ruined his talking points.
These are the bills Republicans have sent to the Senate, with an explanation of what each one is.
NONE of them are jobs bills. They are all deregulation and tax-cut bills.
The Reducing Regulatory Burdens Act (H.R. 872)
Arguing clean water permit requirements are burdensome, supporters introduced H.R. 872, Reducing Regulatory Burdens Act of 2011, which reduces existing protections under CWA that are intended to prevent water contamination from pesticide use. Currently, under CWA, pesticide use that contaminates water may only be allowed if a state permit is obtained under the national pollutant discharge elimination system (NPDES). This rule is now being challenged in the House of Representatives with H.R. 872 because the pesticide industry and users prefer the lax protection of water resources under the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA), which creates pesticide labels. If left to FIFRA, most pesticide spraying in and over waterways would ensue without oversight because pesticide labels specify how the pesticide should be used, but more often than not are silent on questions of chemical discharge into water. The key here is that FIFRA provides broad guidance while CWA offers more localized control to protect against pesticide contamination of waterways that is occurring across the country. More on this issue from Beyond Pesticides' March 11, 2011 Daily News.

The Energy Tax Prevention Act (H.R. 910)
The measure, sponsored by Representatives Fred Upton, Republican of Michigan, and Ed Whitfield, Republican of Kentucky, would overturn the E.P.A.’s finding that carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases pose a danger to human health and the environment. That finding, based on a broad scientific consensus, is the basis for pending regulation of carbon emissions from vehicles and large stationary sources like power plants, factories and refineries.

The Clean Water Cooperative Federalism Act (H.R. 2018)
H.R. 2018 could limit efforts to safeguard communities by removing the Federal Government’s authority to take action when State water quality standards are not protective of public health. In addition, it would restrict EPA’s authority to take action when it finds that a State’s CWA permit or permit program is inadequate and would shorten EPA’s review and collaboration with the Army Corps of Engineers on permits for dredged or fill material. All of these changes could result in adverse impacts to human health, the economy, and the environment through increased pollution and degradation of water bodies that serve as venues for recreation and tourism, and that provide drinking water sources and habitat for fish and wildlife.

The Consumer Financial Protection & Soundness Improvement Act (H.R. 1315)
H.R. 1315 would needlessly delay the transfer of Federal consumer financial protection responsibilities from seven other agencies to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) established by the Dodd-Frank Act, thus continuing to foster a fragmented approach to consumer financial protection. In addition, the bill would seriously weaken the Bureau’s decision-making power by making the head of the CFPB a five-person commission rather than a single Director, significantly limiting the Bureau’s ability to effectively respond to the rapid changes in the dynamic consumer financial products and services market. Finally, H.R. 1315 would compromise the independence of the CFPB by imposing unwarranted restrictions on a Bureau that is already subject to significant oversight. The CFPB is the only banking regulator whose rules can be set aside by a council made up of other Federal agencies. H.R. 1315 would go beyond this already stringent limitation by making it easier for the Financial Stability Oversight Council to set aside CFPB rules and regulations, which would significantly impede the Bureau’s ability to protect American consumers from unfair, deceptive, and abusive practices.

The Restarting American Offshore Leasing Now Act (H.R. 1230
H.R. 1230 would undermine the Administration's work to ensure that environmental analysis required by the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) is conducted in a rigorous manner. H.R. 1230 would hastily open areas of the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic to leasing, including requiring the Department of the Interior (DOI) to hold three lease sales in the Gulf of Mexico using outdated NEPA analysis that was conducted before the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. The Administration has strengthened NEPA analysis in light of lessons learned from the spill. DOI intends to hold all three Gulf of Mexico lease sales referenced in the bill by mid-2012.

The Putting the Gulf of Mexico Back to Work Act (H.R. 1229)
H.R. 1229 would constrain the ability of DOI to ensure that permits meet safety standards by requiring permitting decisions to be made within 30 days of receiving an application – thereby curtailing the review period. Two 15 day extensions would be possible, though DOI would be required to submit burdensome justifications. The bill would grant permits automatically at the end of this 60 day window, regardless of whether the applicant satisfied safety standards. The Administration believes these statutory time constraints are unwarranted. Fifty-one new shallow water permits have been issued since the Administration’s stronger safety standards were put in place, and deepwater permit applications also are being processed in a timely manner. Since the end of February, when industry first demonstrated to safety regulators the capability to contain a subsea spill, twelve deepwater wells have been permitted.

Reversing President Obama’s Offshore Moratorium Act (H.R. 1231)
H.R. 1231 would force Interior to offer for lease sweeping areas of the outer continental shelf off the east and west coast, in the Arctic and Bristol Bay. It would require a doubling of current production without regard for other ocean values. This would not only open up vast new areas to oil and gas drilling without proper analysis of environmental risks, but again would incentivize production over safety. HR 1231 would also force taxpayers to foot half the bill for certain oil and gas exploration costs.
The Jobs and Energy Permitting Act of 2011 (H.R. 2021)
H.R. 2021 would limit existing EPA authority to protect human health and the environment. The bill would: (1) preclude EPA from requiring offshore sources to demonstrate compliance with health-based air quality standards anywhere but in a single onshore area; (2) reduce the length of time during which exploration platforms and drill ships are emission sources under the CAA, thereby limiting the time when emissions would be controlled; and (3) make it impossible to use the permitting program to set emission control requirements for service vessels associated with offshore sources. These changes could result in increased air pollution from OCS sources, including nitrogen dioxide, particles, and sulfur dioxide.
H.R. 2021 would increase Federal court litigation and deprive citizens of an important avenue for challenging government action that affects local public health. H.R. 2021 would replace a relatively fast, inexpensive process for citizens to challenge government action with a longer, more expensive review process in the Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit.

The North American-Made Energy Security Act (H.R. 1938)
The Administration opposes H.R. 1938, which would: (1) require a determination on a Presidential Permit for the Keystone XL crude oil pipeline by November 1, 2011; and (2) limit the discretion of the Department of State in its historic, delegated role as specified in Executive Order 13337, issued by President George W. Bush, to oversee the issuance of permits for such border crossing facilities.
The bill is unnecessary because the Department of State has been working diligently to complete the permit decision process for the Keystone XL pipeline and has publicly committed to reaching a decision before December 31, 2011. Further, the bill conflicts with long-standing Executive branch procedures regarding the authority of the President and the Secretary of State, and could prevent the thorough consideration of complex issues which could have serious security, safety, environmental, and other ramifications.

A Budget for Fiscal Year 2012 (H.Con.Res. 34)
The House-passed budget resolution for fiscal year 2012 (H. Con. Res. 34) claims to strengthen safety net programs, including federal housing assistance, while reducing spending overall. In fact, the budget includes deep funding cuts beginning in fiscal year 2012, and continuing over the coming decade, that would dramatically weaken housing and community development programs.
Under the House Republican plan, the budget category that contains most housing programs would be cut by nearly 12 percent in 2012 and 18 percent by 2021, compared to the 2011 funding level.2 If housing assistance programs received their proportional share of these reductions, they would be cut by $5 billion overall in 2012. Moreover, the cuts would deepen every year over the coming decade, reaching $9 billion in 2021. In total, housing programs would lose $75 billion in funding over the coming decade under the House plan.
Community development programs would be cut even more severely: under the House plan, total funding for community and regional development would be slashed by 22 percent in 2012 and 28 percent by 2021, compared to the level in 2011.

Thirty companies paid no U.S. income tax 2008-2010: report
Thu Nov 3, 2011 1:56pm EDT
(Reuters) - Thirty large and profitable U.S. corporations paid no income taxes in 2008 through 2010, said a study on Thursday that arrives as Congress faces rising demands for tax reform but seems unable or unwilling to act.
Pepco Holdings Inc, a Washington, D.C.-area power company, had the lowest effective tax rate, at negative 57.6 percent, among the 280 Fortune 500 companies studied.
The statutory U.S. corporate income tax rate is 35 percent, one of the highest in the world; but over the 2008-2010 period, very few of the companies studied paid it, said the report.
The average effective tax rate for the companies over the period was 18.5 percent, said Citizens for Tax Justice and the Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy, both think tanks.
Their report also listed General Electric Co, Paccar Inc, PG&E Corp, Computer Sciences Corp, Boeing Co and NiSource Inc as among the 30 that paid no taxes.

What a winning topic for Dems to hit Romney with. Romney is the definition of a 1%'er heck Romney is a .1%'er showing that even the 1% look up to Romney's money.
What's wrong with being a 1%. They are the ones who pay the most in taxes.
We're suppose to hate them because they're succesful and rich?
Class warfare, gender warfare, race warfare. obama is the most devisive president in history!
Who said hate? You did. Who has shown hate? You have. Nobody hates the rich, that is just a talking point. The rich pay the most because they have the most, you saying a person who makes less should pay more?
Gestapo, do you even know what that word means? Or is it just a scary word that has you scared?
Where have I show hate except towards the incompetent-in-chief for ruining this country. What a phony thin-skinned hypocrite he is. It is obama who is trying to stir up hate against the rich.
Like I said, he uses class, gender and racial warfare to run on because he can't run on his record!
Yes I kow what Gestapo means. Do YOU know what tactics IRS agents have used in the past. They have put companies out of business that were a little (not a lot) in debt to them. They don't mess with big companies because big companies have lawyers who know how to deal with them.
Self loathing is at the center of the irrational hate that you project onto our President. It is obvious to most of us that this is your truth. It is tragic that you cannot see this for yourself.
IRS is an American arm of the Government, it may at times put companies out of business for tax violations. The Gestapo simply killed anything in it's way and was from Germany, if you cannot see this difference, then I must challenge you on your statement "Yes I kow what Gestapo means"
Jesushchrist, sully. You can't be seriously trying to pretend the republicans aren't waging the war on women, gays, minorities and the poor and middle classes? Well, I'm sure you are, but it won't work. We can see exactly how they are trying to limit the rights of all of them, including trying to disenfranchise voters.
"Lean Forward", sounds more like it should be "bend over". The biggest thing Obama forgot to disclose is that he is a socialist.
You are right Steve, I never heard that word Socialist before.
That's because he's an illegal alien from Mexico.
That's funny.
Romney is a little weasle..
What EXACTLY IS he HIDING?????
A lot of money to start with, and gee I wonder what folks with a lot of money hide? Oh yeah MORE money and so on and so on.
Dems should hit this topic hard on Romney, he is definitely hiding something from us.
how freakin gullible everyone is on this subject. both parties have more millionaires who have been sitting thru terms getting fatter and doing nothing for us other then going thru the motions. alot of these politicians must be squeezing their knees togeather when the word " Offshore Accounts " is mentioned. Romney may have inherited alot of cash, but so id the Kennedy's and just how was that family fortune made from? Anyone from New England knows the answers to that, there's a long list of dems and repubs who have millions..yet i do not blame them for being rich. What do any of you really care about ..Romney having money and maybe hiding it? or are you shocked that there is a long list of Politicians who are millionaires, our President included.
Again, it is not the fact he has money, it is the fact that he pays less in taxes than you or me.
So those making 30,000 should pay a higher percentage in taxes than a millionaire?
So, yes a person making 30,000 should not pay 10,000 in taxes.
Again you miss the point Jason. Sad to say I'm not shocked.
By all means please enlighten me. Like how is a person making 30,000 a year supposed to hire an accountant for 10,000? How much should a 30,000 per year pay in a percent of taxes? How much should a millionaire pay in taxes?
The answer must not be in the talking points, he's lost.
Most that make 30K per year do not have the money to buy the best tax lawyers. again that system is set up for the rich, they have no problem spending 100K per year on taxes, you saying I should as 30K per year should spend 100K per year? Of course not.
Now if you are against the tax deduction for kids, I as a single person, am willing to have that debate. The tax deductions that bother me so much more than one poor person is the tax deductions a rich guy gets for his 2nd house, you know the one where he gets to write off ALL of the interest on that house. So you tell me which is worse?
Jason Williams
A guy making 30K should pay a 10% flat tax just like everybody else. Its not anybody's fault but his if he isnt smart enough to make more than 30K, so why should the rest of us subsidize him.
Flat tax? LOL, right b/c as we know nobody will ever never ever tamper with the tax code and come up with them derned ole loopholes and off shoring tactics, nopers not never ever.
secrecy should be rummy's name. anyone so secretive has something to hide. any presidential candidate who hides his money off shore is deceitful--none of us ordinary folks have swiss bank accounts/money hidden offshore. rummy cannot even take a definitive stand on anything or stand up to overgrown bullies like limbaugh and trump. even rummy's wife declares the same arrogance when she says it is "mitt's turn". rummy has flip flopped so many times no one will ever know what he actually believes. his donors' own words further prove his arrogance, sense of entitlement, dislike/disgust with the 99%, the fact that they are completely clueless how the 99% live, etc. it is pathetic and scary to think that this man and his superrich benefactors think they can determine the outcome of the election. this is truly a terrifying time for our democracy!
What about obama's arrogance and sense of entitlement? 1%. 99% this is part of obama's class warfare tactic
I don't know where you get the idea Romney is arrogant and feels entitled. Romney earned most of the money he has and the majority of people who have met him say he is very down-to-earth and likable. Unlike thin-skinned obama who thinks he is smarter than everybody, typical lib.
It seems you are thoroughly brainwashed. The hate you spew towards Romney and his wife are based on untruths. The hateful rant of yours shows that you are eager to believe these lies!
Romney can handle what you throw at him, he is thick skinned Obama cannot he is thinned skinned, one can tell this by the way Romney cries about people picking on his offshore money, and you can tell by the way Obama was so occupied with his birth certificate.
We don't hate the 1% because they are rich. They hate us because they are rich. And think we deserve something for the work we do.
Chris
The rich dont hate you, they care about you just as much as you care about them.
Chris
The rich dont hate you, they care about you just as much as you care about them.
Dems need to keep the pressure on him to release these tax returns. He should disclose his secret bank accounts and tell us why he has them hidden.
I'm ok with that as long as we have obama release the documents he had sealed. What is He hiding?
This obsession with Romney and how much money he has. At least he had a job in the real world! Ask the Kennedys about their offshore accounts.
Do ANY of you seriously believe we will be better off with another 4 years of obama as prsident? If you do, you are truely ignorant! I would rather take a chance with Romney anyday!
Wait offshore money is bad when the Kennedy's have it but OK when Romney does?
Always remember IOKIYAR.
The hilarious thing is you think we'll be better off with a rich, entitled, corporate raider as president, who spent his life putting profits before people.
As apposed to the arrogant, thin-skinned, inexperienced, incompetent, clueless president we have now? Romney saved a lot of companies and jobs. Some were beyond salvage. Romney created/saved more jobs then obama would in a lifetime.
The fact that you support obama and think he is a good president is hilarious and sad.
Victory is when Obama makes the poor tea bagged republicans whine and cry, which shows that Obama is doing the right thing because the party of the right have always been wrong.
The fact that all your comments about Obama are insults is what is sad. But that's what happens when you have no facts.
Lets talk about ANYTHING but the economy, thats the one thing Obama does NOT want to talk about.
Other than the fact that that's ALL he talks about. Delusional fool.
Something tells me that Romney is worth more than $250 Million dollars.
so what?
just saying...
Just saying nothing while pretending you are not who you are a Glen Beck wannabe who went by the name capt american who got banned but had to re reg..
Actually, Romney is worth NOTHING.
Hate much Chris?
Project much sully?
Just keeping up, sullen.
At least he was telling the truth when he said he didn't know how much money he had.
When you lose track of how much you have, you must have a wad.
Romney is STACKING some serious CHEE$E!
i'm still looking for a wad of cash i hid years ago from a settlement..i never trusted banks.
Once again...another lie from Whom...too bad the moderators on this board aren't even handed in their distribution of their suspensions...
just saying..
But I am not a banned re reg capt america/storm.
Nor am I...
just saying...
Its funny that all these Democrats are upset about Romney's off shore bank accounts, when they did nothing to close loop holes in the Tax Code when they had majorities in both the House and the Senate. Wow, they didn't do anything about them under 8 years of Clinton either, how could that be?
The Bush tax cuts and other Bush atrocities threw everything out of whack. When Clinton was in office the GOP controlled the House and Senate. And the bipartisan groups at that time balanced the budget.
It's even funnier that the Republicans didn't do anything about it in the 8 years they were in power, considering all the damage they were doing to the country.
Never let it be said that Republicans will abandon an idea just because it only works for them.
Cee, You are correct. Clinton was a leader, willing and capable of working with Republicans. Obama is not a leader and is incapable of working with Republicans. In Obama's world it is His way or the highway. He has demonstrated this time and time again.
Except for the countless times Obama has given into the repubs, besides that you may have a point
2ez4u2c2-
You are nothing but a liar.
Jason - when has obama given into the Republicans. He would rather lie and break any law on the books then do that.
Chris - you are just a poor misinformed, willfully ignorant liberal!
Well sully, how about one individual mandate? sound familiar, it should it was and always has been a repub idea, Obama spoke out against a mandate in the 2008 primary, yet as POTUS gave into the republican idea of "personal responsibility"
How about extending the bush era tax cuts? wasn't that a republican idea passed with reconciliation?
I'm not poor, I'm not ignorant, and I'm not a liberal.
Imagine that. Wrong about everything, again.
Obama bent himself into a PRETZEL trying to deal with the non cooperative GOP.
More like a train car full of pretzels. :-)
Cee, Obama acted as if Republicans didn't even exist for his first two years in office. He ran right over them.
Yet another lie.
OMG - TRUST Romney and The Republicans? Can you really trust Romney and his wealthy 'Special Interest Friends, both Domestic and Foreign', with your family, your community OR America's future?
TRUST Romney? OMG:... Or, will Romney and his wealthy (unidentified) 'Special Interests Friends, both Domestic and Foreign', 'off shore' the moral and financial bankruptcy of America with his 'Business Morality'?
OMG.....TRUST Romney? This LDS 'White Horse' is NOT a candidate who has loved, defended or truly been 'vested' or 'invested' in America, only his personal wealth has driven his 'American' morality. Read the LDS history!
TRUST Romney and The Republicans? Hell NO!
Again more attacks on Romney because he is wealthy.
I would rather trust Romney then the incompetent, socialist, I-hate-America president we have now.
How anyone can support obama after the mess he has made of this country is beyond me. Four more years of this amateur as president? God help us!
Well yeah the country was doing great on Jan 19th 2009, and now look at it.
Only one's who hate America are those who hate the POTUS, signed the GWBush in 2004
I guess you'd rather have a professional thief, like Bush.
No more attacks on Mittens because he is a flip flopping republican liar and an all around piece of crap. What we find so amusing is how you righties are spinning your heads off to protect a guy who only 4 months ago you were saying was a piece of crap that flip flopped until the Koch brothers put their seal of approval on Mittens ass.
ED, ED, ED. Please. Stop having Ron Christie on the show. The guy is nothing but a dummy with the GOP as the ventriloquist. There is never any doubt what he'll say, he's not interested in any real discussion, he just wants to parrot the party line and defend ANY wrong doing even when his defense is absurd (like today, and the hoity toity remarks made at the fundraiser...I mean, c'mon, who could defend those with a straight face?). Compare him to Michael Steele, who can at least be objective and offer a criticism when his party screws up. I mute the sound on Ron Christie, as there is zero point in listening to him. Please, Ed, more Steele, zero Christie.
plooka32, I totally agree with you on Ron Christie. I don't mute him, but I yell real loud at him, calling him a jerk and a @!$%#ing dumbass until my husband gets sick of it and turns the channel.
It is a waste of time listening to any of GOP on TV. They can't answer a single question put to them, and the hosts have no balls and won't pin them down.
It's annoying and frustrating.
you are so right Bluebird--they don't answer questions, they recite their scripts, and they talk as loud and as fast and as much as they can so that they can recite their script and the time runs out.
I got confused reading the posts. Are "they" the Democrats or the Republicans? Are the hosts without balls who don't pin anyone down the people like Ed or are you talking about the folks on Fox?
I watch MSNBC more than Fox because I cannot stand listening to whining guests and rude hosts. Sadly, both networks have both.
He is probably hiding a partnership with Newt's moon condo developer, doesn't want us to know about his interest in developing space real estate which will help his next mission after destroying our environment, Mitt's goal of becoming Darth Vader. IRS will have harder time doing audits of his accounts in outerspace too.
Romney is a wealthy man possessing no real class,
I cannot wait for a debate, so Barak can kick his ass.
Old Mitt will twitch and stutter, and sweat a little too,
he'll look like a stiff rich jackass, when Barak Obama's through.
Romney needs to disclose a good decades worth of tax returns. Why does the Mittster have so many Cayman Islands and Swiss bank accounts? Do you know anyone with Swiss bank accounts? These are usually reserved for major crime syndicate leaders who can not launder their illicit stash of cash in legal homegrown businesses. Anyone who defends Romney's "lack of disclosure" needs to think twice because transparency is everything in politics. What does the Mittster have to hide? Too much money earned from outsourcing American jobs and plants overseas? Why doesn't Romney want to pay taxes on his money to the U.S. government when he wants to head the U.S. government? Leadership is by example, and the middle class and blue collar working classes don't like elitist snobs who don't pay their share of taxes or give the appearance of not doing so. Just because you are a corporate big shot does not mean that you are qualified to be President of the U.S. Romney is for/by/of the one percent. The rest of us he does not care about because Romney is a stuck up elitist snob who will butcher our social safety net to give the rich and wealthy more tax cuts.
Two simple questions...
are there any facts to substantiate any of your accusations or innuendo against Romney that he has done something illegal to earn his money? NO
Are his investments in Switzerland or the Cayman Islands illegal? NO
just saying...
Trying to fix the disasters that the republicans caused which you seem to have forgotten about.
Wait, what? The country was doing great, better than ever on Jan 19th 2009, it was not until after that the country fell apart quickly.
Sarcasm is so hard to pull off on the Internet, but I tried.
You succeeded. Keep it up.
Thanks bud, first time for everything LOL.
yes we know about sarcasm, Try this - Gee, some people really don't believe the econmy has gotten 100 times better under obama?
I would be happy with 10.
Before the Bush Recession
Supply Side Tax Cuts Failed to Deliver Jobs and Income Growth between 2001 and 2007
By Joshua Picker February 2009
This and other efforts of the "Bush Legacy Project" to rehabilitate the last administration's job creation image and defend its tax cuts ignore the stark reality that the Bush administration's tax policies fostered the weakest jobs and income growth in more than six decades, and ignored alarming labor market trends in minority communities. This record of anemic job creation was accompanied by sluggish business investment and weak gross domestic product growth that characterized the period after the Bush tax cuts of 2001 and 2003 went into effect.2
Yet conservatives continue to argue for another round of permanent tax cuts similar to those of the Bush administration. Even if all of the Bush tax cuts are allowed to expire as scheduled, the projected cost of the Bush tax cuts to the federal budget over the next ten years is $3.9 trillion, an average of 1.4 percent of the country's total economic activity (GDP)3 per year. Those asking for more permanent tax cuts continue to justify the cost, claiming tax cuts create jobs.
But their analysis ignores what actually happened during the economic cycle that began in March 2001 and ended in December of 2007 —which almost exactly coincides with the Bush presidency and the implementation of the Bush tax cuts. This period registered the weakest jobs and income growth in the post-war period. Overall monthly job growth was the worst of any cycle since at least February 1945, and household income growth was negative for the first cycle since tracking began in 1967. Women reversed employment gains of previous cycles. And for African Americans, the worst job growth on record was matched by an unprecedented increase in poverty.
http://www.americanprogress.org/issues/2009/02/pdf/picker_jobs.pdf
And that ain't sarcasm!
And the leftwingnut propaganda machine is in full over drive..
shall we birth it? then after we birth it have it birthed again? then have it IDed so we can birth it again?
propaganda....Koch's have that down to a teapub science..............
Koch money is directly from Joe Stalin, yeah I think it came with propaganda built in.
Stalin, you know the guy who is used to scare us about Obama, his money is running our country with the full backing of people who claim to dislike Stalin.
For one thing all this BS has been debunked about the swiss bank accounts etc.
I mean you want to lived in a country with no rich people??
Move to Cuba then.
Why is it folks feel that others should move, but never them?
Maybe Dick Durbin needs to worry more about the economy than someone's finances. President Obama can hide things: i.e. college transcripts, his graduate school writings, etc. Transparency. What is good for one is good for all. Also, what is Dick Durbin going to do about the upcoming GUN CONTROL issue coming up at the UN that President Obama and Sec. of State Clinton support. Is Sen. Durbin going to support this ban on all guns owned by citizens of the United States? Obama knows it is coming and is hiding it til the day it happens. Obama, Durbin, Clinton want to do away with the Second Amendment completely. It is just the beginning of having the United Nations control our way of life.
Mitt Romney is running for president and he needs to be held to a higher standard. He needs to release at least a decade's worth of tax returns and explain his offshore trusts and finances to the public in detail. Why doesn't Romney keep his money in American banks? Why does someone who runs for public office want to hide his money in the Cayman Islands or Switzerland? The Mittster needs to come clean with his tax returns and his offshore money. Leadership is by example and right now Mitt Romney is setting a piss poor example for others to follow period. Drug smugglers, Mafia gangsters, corporations that outsource plants, and those involved in illegal activities frequently use offshore accounts to launder money. Also large corporations use offshore tax shelters in the Cayman Islands or Switzerland to hide money from the IRS. The point is that rich people like Romney play by a different set of rules than a teacher, fireman, or policeman or blue collar worker have to play by. These average Americans don't have offshore bank accounts in the Cayman Islands. These average Americans pay 30% of their income in federal, state, and local taxes while Romney pays about 15% of his income in taxes.
I personally do not care if Mitt Romney is rich or not but don't give me this "what a great American he is" garbage. If he was a great American, why doesn't he keep his money in America and pay his damn federal taxes? Mitt Romney never served in the military a day in his life nor did any of his sons. Mitt Romney never worked as a public school teacher, fireman, or as policeman either. Mitt Romney represents the smart aleck spoiled class of "I have mine and the hell with you" typical of modern Republicans.
I served on active duty for 20 years seeing combat service in the Persian Gulf and supported five major military conflicts working nights, weekends, holidays. I can remember at FT Hood working 16 hour days, two weeks straight with only a down day or two each month for almost a year supporting our units deploy to Iraq in 2002 and 2003. All of these soldiers who worked so hard were from middle class or working class families. We never saw a Harvard MBA graduate anywhere but we had enlisted soldiers like me, with Bachelors and Master's degrees from state colleges. It seems to a combat veteran like me, if you do not have enough honesty to keep all your money in American banks and pay American taxes you have no right to become the President of the United States of America.
The soldiers at FT Hood did not have Cayman Island bank accounts or money in hidden offshore in tax shelters. There are two Americas, one for the middle class and working class soldiers of FT Hood who have to play by a thick set of rules or face immediate discipline or sanctions for the smallest infraction. Then there is the America at the top for the Mitt Romney's who make up the rules for their own enrichment, just like all good plutocrats do and have done throughout history. Its shameful that Mitt Romney has not paid at least 30% income taxes just like the middle class soldiers who fought in combat and gave him a country to get rich in. Conservatives are shameless hypocrites for pushing for tax cuts during a time of two wars. I wish the Bush tax cuts had never ever been passed period.
ohhhh my ohhh my here comes the takin my guns ohhhhh my. Obama and college transcripts what, happened with the birth cert?
ohhh my ohhh my just think they will ask us on the streets for our ID's to proove we are citizens next. ooops wrong ohhhhh my guys..........ohhh my the supreme court will go commie next and vote the AHCA in ohhhh my........
Rex...guess what? Romney has not broken a single law regarding his investments, so your opinion on the matter really doesn't mean squat.
When did Obama serve in the military? Last time I checked, he did not serve as a public school teacher, policeman or fireman either...so what is your point?
Yes, we know you served in the military, You never miss an opportunity to point that fact out. Make sure you understand this...there is no law requiring ANY american to keep all of their money in the USA. We have the FREEDOM to do what we want with our money as long as we follow the laws of the land. And unless you have proof that he did something illegal, you really should just shut up.
Why is it that you are not calling out Obama for not paying a 30% tax rate on his money? Oh that's right...because you are a left wing hack...I forgot...
just saying...
That you know of because you have no clue on weather Mittens committed crimes or not in his investments, here is a clue the wealthy do not get wealthy by playing the game within the law.
You have to elect Romney to find out what he stands for.
TRC...we learned that from the Democrats and Nancy Pelosi...remember? We have to pass the bill in order to find out what is in it...
just saying...
Gee golly Wally , do you supposed the Supreme Court staff had to read ALL 2,700 pages of the bill?
On another note, Issa wants 80,000 documents in his abuse of power. I often wonder how they could possibly go through 80,000 documents when 2,700 was simply an impossible task.
Ask Nancy...she is the one who made the statement...
just saying..
She was wrong, it has been passed signed & upheld and you folks STILL do not know what is in it.
Meanwhile, The "Job Czar to President Obama" GE CEO Jeffery Immelt and company paid zero taxes on 5 billion dollars of 2011 profit which was all booked in overseas accounts. Still waiting for reaction from President Obama. Obviously the President must condone this practice but oddly enough vilifies Romney. I'm betting the majority of money Romney has in foreign accounts has already been earned and taxed.
Then you tell us all please, is it OK or not?
Funny how when Reagan created the czar with his drug czar not one of the GOP sheeple ever mentioned that or made a big deal of the czar title when Reagan created the title, just more of the IOKIYAR nonsense.

maybe they couldn't figure the term out. see there is confusion in it. the commies killed the one that had that title and they want to be czar killers just like the commies..............
Yes, I agree, but did the "Drug Czar" smoke and traffic drugs while working for Reagan? "Job Czar" Jeffery Immelt is closing down factories, shipping them to China and India, massively outsourcing and paying no taxes on 5 billions dollars of profit. Why would the President want a "Job Czar" like that? Personally, that would frost my pumpkin and should everyone else.
"Frost my pumpkin?" Really?
You lefties crack me up...you scream and whine about how the 46% of Americans who don't pay taxes actually do because they pay sales tax, property tax, etc etc etc, yet you do not give credit to the businesses for all of the taxes that they pay in regards to sales tax, FICA taxes, payroll taxes, property taxes, etc etc etc. You guys are such hypocrites...
just saying...
Just sayin what? I am not sure where you stand on this issue.
He ends ALL his comments that way. He thinks it's cute.
One side note, if we would of had a 15 percent flat tax, GE pays 750 million to the Treasury of the United States as opposed to ZERO. Instead, GE blatently cheats the tax code in front of the President of the United States who then turns his head and looks at Mitt Romney. The President is running a Mark Grayson style hypocritical campaign strategy.
As does every other corporation that has bought their own GOP senator and congress members. Gee how funny that to escapes your notice. Why one billionaire has his very own presidential candidate, I don't see any whines about that from you.
Have you ever heard of Kohls??? as in senator kohl dude is worth over $1 billion bucks....
4 times what mitt has...
And guess what liberals??? he's a democrat!!!!!!
So you dislike all who are worth over $1,000,000,000,000? Lost me on this complaint about dems, you dislike rich pols or not?
Nice things happen to nice people.
So you dislike all who are worth over $1,000,000,000,000?
No one is a trillionaire........
Next senator kerry has a few bucks, well he married a bottle of ketchup..
At least mitt made his money.
I see well then a Trillion is too much? What is your point of too much money? $50 - 50K 500K, I just saw how much you disliked the rich guy from the state of Washington and wanted to know what was the money number for being too much.
Look I never said I dislike anyone alright...
My point is if you are going after mitt you had better go after all the rest of them in DC..
Now why would President Obama hire a "Job Czar", who is conducting business completely opposite of what the President and his campaign complains about???.... such as outsourcing and hiding the pure, never taxed profits in overseas accounts. I've heard this "insourcing" term being touted in the campaign ads. WHAT A JOKE! Those are jobs GE shipped out years ago and now they are bringing those jobs back at 60 percent less the wage and no where near a livable wage. Then Joe Bident goes to Appliance Park in Louisville and claims victory for the recovery economy.
hmmm...this mean your against outsourcing? watch out....liberal comments are wearing you down........
Ohuh! sparks and smoke!
Willard just threatened that business would pack up and leave the US if they got taxes fairly! I must agree to some degree Willard has already done this and he knows how! I want Willard to show me just how he's gonna outsource a service industry? Or farming or the Bakken oil field? Nice try rich guy!
Now why would President Obama hire a "Job Czar", who is conducting business completely opposite of what the President and his campaign complains about???....
GE is a world wide company not some mom & pop shop.
Next it makes sense to have your mfg planets in the place were you sell your goods.
Ask anyone in Lynn MA about the jobs GE provides and the tax dollars they pay the state of MA...
I dont know, but can anyone tell whether or not the money Romney may have in overseas accounts was already earned and taxed before it got there??? Honestly, I don't have problem with that.
First clue Cayman islands are not called tax havens because people put money into them after paying taxes on the money nor does the interest on those dollars get taxed until they bring the money back to the states so there is no way to tell how much money is in those accounts we have to take the word of a known Lair like Mittens on how much money is in those accounts. You know that would be like taking the word of a tea bagged republican on blogs.
Well if the rich getting tax breaks is supposed to lead to job creation, then taking that money offshore is not creating jobs
So sorry you feel that way about poor people. I am very poor and I do not understand why you hate me so much. I have worked over 25 years and now am unemployed and after three years I finally paid zero in my Federal income tax, YEAH ME HUH? Next year my income will be so low I will not have to pay any state income taxes, though this year I paid a higher rate than Portland General Electric, my income was around $4,000 PGE's profit was large, yet I paid as higher tax rate, do you think that is fair?
Lastly it is always funny to hear folks say how they have money now and always will as if they can somehow control the future. What is so funny is that these very same smug people are whining the loudest when something they have come used to is taken away.
Teabagger speak 101 : When did I use the word "hate'? I didn't did I? That's what I hate about liberals.
So yes you have said hate, not only in last response but other times. Simple stuff like: "The poor get all the breaks....nothing is expected of them and that's exactly what they deliver....nothing!"
Also you think a person making 4,000 per year should pay a higher tax rate than a company the size of PGE? Just want to make sure I understood you.
Jason
Rich people didnt make you poor, you did.
Ubetcha, I chose to have the company I worked for go under, I told them to so I can make so little I can pay zero in income tax. It is great here and you should try it sometime ZERO taxes, man are you kidding me I pay zero federal income taxes, I WIN.
I did try it there in Oregon, and I was poor because theres no way to make a decent living, so I left, and now Im not poor. If youve been out of work for 3 years thats your fault, try doing something about it other than blame somebody else.
Who have I blamed there Steve?
Do you always just use talking point when trying to trash someone? Or are you just someone who is so brainwashed you have no idea what you are saying?
You know Steve some people consider family more important than money, clearly you are not one of these people.
Who have I blamed Steve?
Since you joined in and didn't come close to the subject, just inserted insults and talking points, tell me Steve do you think a multi billion dollar company should pay LESS in taxes than a person making 4,000 in a year?
You seem to think its some rich persons fault that you only make 4K a year, its not, its your fault, if you dont have enough skills or amibtion to go out and make more than that then its nobodys fault but your own.
And what now I am supposed to listen to you after all the untrue and blatant insults you have said about me?
So your answer is yes, you think a multi billion dollar corporation should pay less than a person making 4 thousand in a year?
ONLY person I have seen blaming others is YOU.
It hurts the USA in many ways! It takes money out of the system, If it was in a bank in the US it could be used to help support loans from the bank/s This money isn't being reinvested in the US or anywhere so it doesn't help other countries either to help there economies to buy from the USA.
When Willard talks about job creators that won't invest in new jobs he doesn't practice what he preaches. He's a blue blooded double talking job killer. And lets not forget all the businesses he butchered for his own profit and sent those jobs to overseas markets that further hurt the economy in the USA. When Romney wants to be president is like making a pyromaniac a fire
Many of the rich(job creators) do the same thing compounding the problems. But I must remind you that not all the rich do this and are more than willing to pay what they consider fair taxes for getting to do business in the USA. Its just the Teapublicans playing a game and at our expense. When November comes they may be very surprised on the outcome. And not to their liking!
Another ignorant hate filled rant from a clueless liberal. I'm shocked!
Classic teabagger statement 101 : "I hate it when people cannot do anything but put down others, you know like them hate filled clueless liberals"
We've put up with a hate-filled rant from the Republican party for 12 years.
What about the big name rich Democrats who are renouncing their US citizenship and moving to other countries? It appears those liberals are outsourcing themselves.
I would rather live within my means following the Tea Party philosophy than be taking handouts and "entitlements" when it means that the people who are paying taxes in this country are struggling to make ends meet just so someone does not have to work when they are able. It is one thing for someone to receive benefits from a program that was designed to help people with a certain disability or who are temporarily down on their luck- it is another to abuse the system because that person would rather not work and support himself.
Hmmm, Denise Rich form wife of Marc Rich pardoned by President Clinton gives up citizenship to save tens of millions in taxes. Let me guess, we should hold her up as a hero because she's a Democrat.
Who where what facts?
So what you are saying is Marc Rich hiding and leaving the country for tax purposes is wrong? Which is it, hiding money offshore is good or not? You guys always use the one example and that is supposed to be even with the 30,000 examples of your own side doing the very thing you complain about.
Two wrongs make a right RIGHT!
I didn't know Billy was running???Again!!!
Nothing? How is me paying MORE nothing? Nasty people? huh? Lost me as I have not called the people who make money off of PGE's profits nasty. But what do those people pay as a percent in taxes on those profits? More than the workers there or less?
Why is it PGE can pay zero in taxes and be OK with you and GE pays less than zero and you think that is because they support the POTUS. Which is it huge corporations should pay a higher tax rate than a person making 4K per year or should a huge corporation pay a lower tax rate than a person making 4K per year?
Sorry man, but I did my taxes, with like Turbo Tax. Did a 2nd try by hand not believing the first. I paid State income tax on 4,000. Oregon has no sales tax.
Why is it you simply choose to call me a liar?

PGE is liberal? Lost me again.
Portland General Electric, paid zero in state taxes. I paid more than zero and I made 4,000 dollars in 2011
XEPTDX
PG&E Corp isn't the company we're talking about.
XEPTDX
Why is it PGE can pay zero in taxes
XEPTDX
PGE paid out over 80 million in dividends over that last year to it's shareholders, every penny of which is taxable to those nasty people that have the nerve to invest for the future.
Tea Party speak 101
XEPTDX: Tell that to the family’s who got folded flags in place of their loved ones.
You think because the IRS is part of goverment they good and are not liable to excess of power? How ignorant! The IRS has a history of abuse of power. Now the IRS is going after top leaders of the Tea Party. For what? for standing up to an out-of-control goverment. If that is not Gestapo tactics then you and Jason are just plain stupid!
I may be as dumb as a box of rocks, but I do know that the IRS is not like the Gestapo. The IRS is not going after teabaggers for the simple fact they are teabaggers, that is a Nixon/Rove tactic, the IRS is what holds the country together and was adapted by the citizens of the USA. Without the IRS there would be anarchy.
If it wasn't for the IRS the country would have been taken over by mobsters like Al Capone.
The IRS does not hold the country together...
They collect tax dollars that's it.
It's we the people that keep the country going and together...
I wonder who created the IRS, OH yeah that is right it was us, we the people.
Ah no it was not, we the people, it was the government. started after the civil war and Lincoln started taxing people that had a total value over $800 bucks..
We the people do not like the IRS...
You may find this to be strange but there are states that have no income tax!!!
Teabag speak 101 : "Ah no it was not, we the people, it was the government"
The USA government is defined as "We the People" our government is a representative of us, We the People. We the people have the right to vote for our representatives. The IRS was made by We the People.
You may find this a surprise but there are states with no sales tax.
What state has no sales tax???
We the people was put on paper by the founders not the government..
You should try reading the Constitution
Oregon has no sales tax.
We the People is the USA government, stated right there in the Constitution. How is it that the first three word of the Constitution are not apart of the Constitution?
Funny, I just re-read it and you know what? The first three words are "We the People"
:-) dern thing said it didnt post
Ah yes you got bubble gummed lol.
Just wait and click submit again; you may have to do it a few times, but it will eventually post.
And some times it will print three or so......Happens when there seems to be heavy traffic.
Sometimes its a republican. Duh!
