Mitt Romney's campaign is demanding that President Obama's team apologize for saying the presumed Republican presidential nominee might have committed a felony by "misrepresenting his own position at Bain to the SEC." The Obama campaign's retort: No dice, Mitt.
The firestorm started after the Boston Globe reported on SEC filings indicating that Romney had remained in charge of private equity firm Bain Capital several years longer than he's claimed in the past. Romney has said he left Bain that year to run the Winter Olympics in Utah. But the newly publicized documents show that he was at least nominally in charge of the company until 2002.
Stephanie Cutter, Obama's deputy campaign manager, told reporters on a conference call that Romney is either a liar who is "misrepresenting his own position at Bain to the SEC, which is a felony, or he was misrepresenting his position at Bain to the American people."
Matt Rhoades, Romney's campaign manager, demanded an apology for Cutter's "reckless and unsubstantiated charge," maintaining that Romney had no input on Bain's decisions after 1999.
On Thursday, MSNBC's Ed Schultz asked Obama campaign spokesman Ben LaBolt if his team would issue an apology.
"There won't be" one, LaBolt said. "Mitt Romney has been telling voters since he ran for office in Massachusetts that he left Bain in 1999 and the Boston Globe reported today that it wasn't true."
"Mitt Romney is holding himself to a double standard," he went on. At Bain, "he was CEO, chairman of the board, sole owner and sole shareholder. We're supposed to believe he didn't have any involvement?"

Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney deleted emails and removed hard drives from government computers. Is there a federal law that says emails and hard drives CANNOT be deleted and/or removed from federal computers?
Romney was still being paid by Bain Capital after he allegedly "retired" from 1999-2002. This "retirement" was an active one. Romney apparently received $100,000 in 2002 alone from Bain Capital and was listed as CEO on the form. What is even more interesting is that while Mitt Romney was away at the Olympics over four companies here in America laid off 6,000 employees due to outsourcing. The larger issue here is that Bain Capital or its subsidiary "Bain LLC" was a pioneering force in outsourcing jobs overseas. So when Romney says he knew nothing about any of this outsourcing from 1999-2002 why was he paid $100,000?
The Boston Globe requires paid membership to read their article which I won't pay because I live in Minnesota and already read three other daily newspapers, journals, and news magazines regularly. The Washington Post article seems to be playing with semantics based on the definition of "retirement". While Romney may not have been active in every day to day decision at Bain Capital after 1999, he still would have known about much of what happened at the company he founded. Mitt Romney helped create an outsourcing monster that deprived 6,000 Americans of their jobs by outsourcing while he himself made multi-millions of dollars hidden in overseas tax shelters. What discredits Romney more than anything else is that he is an outsourcing agency for American jobs. Romney bitching about President Obama having an 8.2% unemployment is not only disingenuous but it is stupid consider Romney's business experience sends jobs to Asia rather than to Main Street, USA.
I respect hard working business people on Main Street who build up a business over the years and stay on Main Street. These type of people are an essential part of our economy. When we talk about Bain Capital or "Bain LLC" we are talking about vulture capitalism that preys on good companies, drives them into bankruptcy, outsources jobs, takes benefits and jobs away from workers, while rewarding the managers at the top with multi-million dollar deals where many of the profits get hidden in overseas tax shelters. If none of this is true why is Romney so sensitive about where his money came from? Why doesn't Romney disclose his tax returns and overseas holdings? The point here is that Romney claims to be able to know how to create jobs. The reality is from 1999-2002 Bain Capital outsourced 6,000 jobs overseas from four different companies. Documents show clearly that Romney knew all about this outsourcing. Spin it however you want, it just goes to show that Romney's business experience will only help create jobs in Asia not in America.
Here is a quote about a report from Current TV with Jennifer Granholm that shows with documents that Mitt Romney retained several executive positions at Bain capital well into 2003. Go to the Think Progress website today and look at this two minute plus video of Jennifer Granholm. I quoted this portion directly from the Think Progress website. Links to websites do not work for me here otherwise I would post them because the website address vanishes on me. Go to Think Progress and make up your own mind for yourself.
"Former Michigan Governor and Current TV host Jennifer Granholm uncovered more evidence that Mitt Romney retained executive titles at Bain Capital well into 2003, more than three years after his campaign claims he stepped down from the company to head the Salt Lake City Olympic Organizing Committee:"
Granholm's report directly contradicts the statement that Bain Capital made yesterday in its press release that said Mitt Romney was not a member of its executive team after Mitt Romney left in 1999. Romney actually was involved and aware of management decisions well into 2003. Documents with his signature and payment for services as an executive in various capacities both form Bain Capital and Bain LLC seem to contradict Romney's assertion that he retired from the company in 1999. I will leave it to the pundits to prove or disprove whether or not Romney misled or lied to the SEC about his Bain Capital connections from 1999-2003 because I am not a lawyer.
Let's talk about a blue collar worker in Ohio or Pennsylvania with a family to support, a mortgage to pay, increasing health care premiums to pay, a pile of bills sitting on the kitchen table along with his W-2 and his wife's W-2. President Obama saved the auto industry that kept at least one million jobs in America. President Obama's stimulus plan gave targeted tax cuts to that blue collar family in Ohio and Pennsylvania reducing their tax burden. President Obama has promoted the American Jobs act that would have created or saved two million jobs stalled by the GOP in the House. Many worker retraining programs and other infrastructure programs have been started by President Obama. President Obama has past the ACA that will help working class people get affordable health insurance. Green energy has also been strongly promoted by President Obama. Once this recession is over with and fuel prices bounce back to $150 per barrel because of Asian demand these green energy programs will be a godsend for American workers. President Obama has planted the seeds for a green energy future for our kids and grand kids. These are achievements to be proud of consider we are still recovering from what was the worst recession since 1932.
Mitt Romney founded a monster of a corporation that preys on good Main Street companies. The monster called "Bain Capital" buys companies, loads them up with debt leading to their break up in bankruptcy court that screws workers out of jobs, pensions, benefits, and pay while giving big payouts to the managers who hide money in overseas accounts. I think that the average blue collar worker in Ohio, Pennsylvania and other industrial states in the Midwest will be able to decide who is on their side. I think most blue collar workers will look at Romney's Bain Capital experience and not want to have a vulture capitalist in the White House who got rich outsourcing jobs to Asia. I think that the longer this Bain Capital discussion continues the more it assures President Obama a second term.
sec.gov & irs.gov are FREE.
That is where the facts are, not no the ed blog, movone.bs or anyother blog/web site.
You liberals have a real hard time going to the web sites that have the facts.
@ho-lee-cow
I fact-check everything I can, so your statement "You liberals have a real hard time going to the web sites that have the facts." is just ignorant!!
cbo.gov and bls.gov are terrific sites as is fms.treas.gov (And FREE)
research.stlouisfed.org is also great - and the FRED has a free APP I have on my phone.
Here is a book I highly recommend to everyone:
"Blur: How to Know What's True in the Age of Information Overload" by BillKovach and Tom Rosenstiel
Includes a section on "The Way of Skeptical Knowing...amounts to asking - and knowing how to answer - a series of systematic questions... including the following.
Then go to those web sites and get the same information I do.
Not all the leftwing web sites.
That we know all you do is search for things that fit your beliefs everything else you either ignore or toss away because you do not want any new information that causes you to question beliefs.
Yes I do believe in the facts.
Next you will tell me that the irs.gov, bls.gov, sec.gov, are all full of lies.
All these trolls want everybody else to do their research for them. That way they can spin it easier and don't have to actually read anything. Notice they always want us to post sources and links, but never do themselves. I guess they haven't figured out how to use Google yet. It's soooo complicated.
Rex's quote.
I think that the longer this Bain Capital discussion continues the more it assures President Obama a second term.
This is so true because it take the focus off of BO'S dismal record as president.
Got that right, obama can't run on his record what so ever.
And why else would anyone want him to be a 2nd term president, other than his last 4 years to show for it.
If you haired a company for lawn maintenance and your lawn kept getting worst, would keep them?
Fact to tea bagged republicans any LIE repeated 3 or more times is a fact.
You mean like this:
The stimulus worked.
The stimules worked.
The stimulus worked.
Just click your heels together 3 times and "Theres no place like home"
The larger issue here is that President Obama inherited a disaster of an economy as he walked into the White House in 2009. The normal conventional wisdom has to be thrown out of the window because the economic downturn was so severe. We lost 8 million jobs. A 150,000 per month creation is what we need to break even with population growth. 300,000 jobs created per month is good steady growth coming out of a recession. We really were in what Nobel prize winning economist, Professor Paul Krugman says is a "Lessor Depression". The President has offered the American Jobs Act and other infrastructure bills that have languished in the House. If the American Jobs Act had been passed in August, 2011 at least two million jobs would have either been saved or created by now. This could have brought unemployment down to 7%. But the President can not pass the American Jobs Act without a decent partner in Congress. Instead of a decent partner, President Obama has a GOP Congress that is out to get him and sabotage absolutely everything he asks for. Then the GOP wants to blame President Obama for the slow economic recovery. The GOP are such hypocrites when they root for the country to fail.
The "Do Nothing" obstructionist GOP in the Congress is rooting for economic failure so they can gain back the White House. The problem with this plan is that President Obama is holding up very well in the swing states that the GOP mus win in order to get to 270 electoral votes. President Obama is polling 40 points ahead in Hispanics. Independent women who are single, also poll strongly for President Obama particularly in those deadly swing states of Ohio, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Iowa, and Florida. President Obama is doing well in Virginia and Nevada.
It will be a tight race but the GOP made to fundamental errors earlier last year and this year. The GOP's war on women is mind numbingly stupid. The GOP's anti-women's reproductive health, anti-birth control, anti-family planning agenda has enraged independent women who strongly support President Obama. The GOP's "person hood" agenda has also failed forcing a strong counterattack by women's groups around the country. The GOP's war on women's reproductive health is one of the most ignorant things I have seen in watching modern politics. The GOP has written off independent women voters in swing states.
The GOP has also written off Hispanic voters as well. The filibuster of the Dream Act in December, 2010 is an almost racist and bigoted action by the GOP. The House passed the Dream Act and the Senate had 55 votes but the GOP filibustered this needed bill for the 11 million undocumented workers who want to keep their children in America. These Dream kids are America's children. America is an optimistic country that wants to make things better for its children. So when you vote down the Dream Act you are committing political suicide by writing off Hispanic voters. President Obama has about a 40 point lead amongst Hispanics. Romney is polling in the low 20% amongst Hispanics unless this changes radically don't expect Romney to win. There simply are not enough old angry white men and their brain washed wives to get Mitt Romney over the finish line of 270 electoral votes. The GOP has a massive problem with women, Hispanics, and young college educated white men who have nothing but disdain for the Republican brand of dog food.
What is worse for Mitt Romney than all of these GOP blunders, is his failure to articulate a coherent vision of what he wants to do with the economy. Romney wants to make the Bush tax cuts permanent that will add something to the order of about $4 trillion in debt to our economy over the next decade plus. Romney supports the Ryan budget which will cut and gut the social safety net for tens of millions of poor Americans. Giving more tax cuts to the top one percent who prosper on Wall Street will not create jobs for middle class Americans struggling on Main Street. It will only make more outsourcing of jobs to Asia while America declines and Asia grows.
President Obama wants to build the country up by expanding middle class opportunities. The other thing is that the economy in places like Virginia, Ohio, and Pennsylvania are starting to pickup. So Romney has a hard row to hoe in saying "the economic is horrible vote for me etc." Someone on the conservative side needs to explain how making the Bush tax cuts permanent will help create jobs for unemployed Americans when for ten years these tax cuts have failed to create anywhere near the jobs our country needs even for population growth. Could it be that tax cuts to the rich make few if any jobs at all for the middle class?
Funny the stimulus must have worked because the republican congress ran back to their districts to do photo ops at job sites created by the stimulus they voted against to show their support for the projects created by the stimulus, trying to pretend it was their doing.
To the poster who have commented that we should look up data:
The CBO was required by law to publish a quarterly report on the ARRA.
These reports are available from the website.
I have looked at the full text reports but they are really heavy reading.
I recommend the blog posts which gives a more human readable format.
For example:
Estimates of ARRA’s Impact in the Fourth Quarter of 2011
CBO develops estimates of ARRA’s effects on output and employment by looking at recorded spending to date along with estimates of the other effects of ARRA on spending and revenues, by using evidence about the effects of previous similar policies, and by drawing on various mathematical models that represent the workings of the economy. Using such analysis, CBO estimates that ARRA’s policies had the following effects in the fourth quarter of calendar year 2011 compared with what would have occurred otherwise:
One real important point here, there is no such law.
The A.R.R.A failed to live up to it's expeditions.
For one thing how can you say it lowered the unemployment rate when it has been over 8% ever sense they passed it?
It was intended to keep the rate under 8%..... It hit over 10% by October.
Just can't seem to grasp that what Obama wanted and what congress gave him were 2 different things, for 1 1/2 of the stimulus went on tax cuts for the wealthy and not on jobs.
What expeditions was the ARRA on?
2 points about Bain:
! Why collect money as stated by SEC filings from a business when you are declared INACTIVE ?
2. We are concerned about this and yes, we do care and yes it does matter!
Obama/Biden 2012
Romney is the LIAR and I don't want him anywhere near the WhiteHouse!
What is the SEC filling number?
No number no filling.
The fish wrap can't show the SEC filling number. Ooooops.
"Might Have" is not "he did".
The Romney campaign is not disputing that the description of the filings in the Boston Globe and other reports is inaccurate
Yes they are.
the boston fish wrap can not prove what the printed. That is what happens when you buy ink by the barrel and paper by the tons.
Interesting...I found the webpage where you can search the SEC filings.
Try sec.gov
Or can't you access that web site from your PC.
@ho-lee-cow
HOLY COW!!
Yes - that is exactly the web site I found! The Next-Generation EDGAR System to be precise!
I have discovered in my in-depth efforts to find real data (cbo, bls, now sec) is that there is a tremendous wealth of data that is available.
Filtering through the pile can sometimes take a while, until I find what I am looking for. Sometimes during the hunt, I run into data that I didn't even know was available.
I have been known to engage in lengthy discussions with other posters. It can be informative - I am pushed to provide data and evidence to back up my opinions - and sometimes it is fun.
But - I think I'll just ignore you - sorry.
then show us all the SEC fillings that back the claim by the boston fish wrap.
Funny they can't show the SEC filling numbers. but you can?
And so you come to the same conclusion the rest of us did long ago.
Now you know why most of us just don't bother with him.
holy cow..............oh man........I'll agree with McCain and that's sayin something there holy cow....if Palin was a better choice what do you think McCain new about Robme.....?.......duh.................
@Chris
I know...just can't help it sometimes.
Did learn about sec.gov and EDGAR, so not a complete waste.

"malnipulated"
I don't know if you just misspelled the word or deliberately created the BEST WORD ever to describe what would happen if Romney won.
Why are you talking about Obama like that on this left wing wacko website? you might get in trouble...
just saying...
Poor capt entitled once again shows what happens when you walk around in the Texas summer sun without a hat.

the Washington post gave Obama 3 Pinocchio's this morning with him claiming that Romney either did something criminal or mislead the public on his involvement with Bain after 1999
cant link but you can google
washingtonpost.com/blog/fact-checker/post/do-bain-sec-documents-suggest-mitt-romney-is-a-criminal
its a long article explaining why does his name appeal on sec documents after 1999
but the most interesting portion of the article is Mass. election committee did a long investigation when Romney ran for Governor into his dealings with Bain after 1999 and found that Romney wasn't involved in operations of the company or investment other then his personal ones
i don't know if anyone has kept tracks but Obama has received over 10 Pinocchio's in the last 2 weeks from the Washington Post and please don't try to tell me they are a right wing publication
If Obama keeps up these lies his nose will be so long it will stretch from one end of this country to the next
that would be almost as long as the unemployment lines are under Obama...
just saying...
Romney's running an ad that has Obama quoting John McCain saying "If we keep talking about the economy, we lose."
They cut off the part about it being a quote from John McCain so it sounds like Obama's saying it. When asked about it, Romney said "We're going to keep running it."
How many pinocchio's does Romney get?
i don't know Chris why don't you go and find out and lets us know
Why is it you demand all Conservatives to back up everything they say but we all supposed to take your word for it do your own dam research
Typical lazy ass liberal wants everything handed to him off the backs of some one elses work
Possibly one of your dumbest responses. Though it's hard to tell.
Got that right Chris it is getting hard to tell which tea bagged republicans posts are the dumbest, just when you think they can't say anything dumber they post and prove that the dumbness runs deep.
I wonder if Wrong Way Willard is going to announce that he is no longer running for president! He's got all the networks (THE REAL ONES!!!) attention!
If he just makes up a story and denies everything the REAL media will hound him from now until doomsday! I wonder what possible reason for pulling out could be?
XXX can you just hear their heads explode if they end up with RP as their candidate, LOL
They would explode and so would I with laughter! Of course they must still check out Wrong Way and send him to jail if he's been a bad boy!
BO is definitely the Liar in Chief. How about his latest last week on the campaign stump in Ohio. He claims that he was out spent in the 2008 campaign by McCain. The fact is that BO spent almost twice what McCain spent. No brag, just fact.
Well what do you expect McCain ran before citizens united was passed so it was illegal for billionaires to give unlimited amounts of cash without having to tell anyone who they are or how much they gave. Gee just can't grasp changes can you.
The reason Obama outspent McCain in 2008 was that more people contributed to his campaign than McCain's. The reason Romney is outspending Obama is more billionaire's are contributing to his campaign than Obama's. Not more people.
See, that's what happens when you just believe propaganda without finding out for yourself. When I googled it, the first couple of pages were all right-wing websites repeating the same thing you are. But when I went to youtube to hear for myself, I noticed that all the right-wing posters cut off his speech right after that remark, which in itself was suspicious, as though they didn't want you to hear the rest of it. Which is what it was. The entire remark was, " the first campaign I ran, the last one in 2008, I've been outspent before, I've had money thrown at me before."
Sounds a little bit different, doesn't it? You should think about how you're being manipulated by people you trust. They assume you won't bother with the truth, and will just accept whatever propaganda they throw at you.
Apparently, they're right.
The PAC money is the only stimulus the GOP will allow!
Once again Whomy, you missed the point. HE LIED!!! Go somewhere and give all of us a break from your childish bull$#@t.
As for RealChris, It still sounds like he lied to me. He just does it with such eloquence.
He did not lie you just don't understand truth when you hear it because in your world truth is a lie and a lie is truth. Hey its you tea bagged republicans that are acting childish you keep sticking your fingers in your ears and scream lalala whenever anyone puts a fact out to you then there is your little temper tantrums that you display along with refusing to admit your wrong, all signs of immature minds. I get so tried of dealing with you children an trying to talk to you like adults I just figure to put what I say at a age level you will respond to because adult speak is to advanced for ta bagged republican minds with signs of mental disorders.
other opinion-
And my post at #37.2? How do you feel about that?
Well personaly I just dont think Mitt has done anything crimnal but I could be wrong. However he has worked several postions for no pay and I think he gave most of his inhertance to charity. So his profile doent seem to be one that would be involved in criminal activity. It sounds alot like the foolish bithers trying to say Obama was not born in Hawaii. Somethings just dont pass the smell test.
Nobody thought Bernie Madoff, Angelo Mozilo, Allen Stanford, or Tom Petters would have involved themselves in criminal activity either. How did that work out?
Your right he could be but I find it mighty strange that he would work for free and then do crimes to make money.
He was never working for free, he continues to earn tens of millions of dollars per year from Bain investments. As for his donations, almost 100% went to the Mormon church which has spent countless millions fighting against human equality. The CEO's tend to feel laws don't apply to them, they never feel like they've done anything wrong.
I don't think Romney obtained his money illegally. I think if/when the facts come out, it'll hurt his chances. He's claiming to be a job creator. Will the facts show he downsized US companies by sending jobs overseas and then show he invested in those companies? Romney talks about all these jobs he created but anybody whose been part of a reorganization knows people lose their jobs during when a company reorganizes. Why hasn't anybody calculated job losses vs. jobs created? And if there are no records to pull those numbers from, how can you claim you are a job creator? I've got 3 dogs but I don't go around telling people I'm a professional dog trainer. There are a lot of people who have kids but how many would you say are expert parents? The proof is in the pudding. Romney needs to release more tax returns so we can see how he (legally) made his money. If he's as good as he says he is when it comes to creating jobs, that shouldn't be a problem.
A number of cities are going under so Im not sure if I would call Obama a job creator either. Now Obama knows how to borrow triilions of dollars and calls that saving jobs. In fact Obama just did something with welfare reform that Clinton passed I havent got the details yet. Unemployment is over 14% for blacks and 8.2% for the country. So in my opinion I dont see any choice in who to vote for. Do you vote for the guy whos going to borrow trillions tp make payroll are you goign to vote for the business man who knows how to manage money.
I honestly believe this country would be a lot further along if we had a government that worked together. I truly wish anytime anybody brought up the unemployment rates that they would also reiterate how there is no longer any bipartisanship and how filibusters are at an all time high. By just bringing up unemployment numbers, you are only talking about 1/2 the problem. Why is it anybody who mentions the unemployment rate never goes further and also include what Mitch McConnell said about making sure Obama is a one term President? How would you feel if you went to work every day doing your best only to have co-workers sabotage your efforts so you would look bad? Personally, I hope, come November, the Democrats take hold of the House, Senate and Obama is re-elected. I believe only then will we see real progress for all Americans. Everybody, including the 1%er's need to start investing in THIS country; not in others. If you disagree, think about this....the Republicans controlled the House and the Senate from 2003-2007 while Bush was President. How did that turn out?
@high rolla
The topic of welfare reform came up on another post. (I copied and pasted what I posted earlier - down below)
Regarding "Obama knows how to borrow trillions of dollars":
CBO.gov Historical Budget Data—January 2012 Baseline
The deficit ballooned - starting in late 2008 and way up in 2009. This was due to a huge drop off in revenue. The graph looks kind of like a roller coaster chugging up the big hill (from 2002 - to 2007), it leveled off in 2008 and then went screaming downhill. At the same time, mandatory spending such as "income security" unemployment, SNAP{Food Stamps} increased fairly dramatically - for obvious reasons. Everything else still had to be paid.
I'm not sure where the ARRA (Stimulus) spending appears in the data, but remember that a chunk of that was tax cuts.
The notion that President Obama added trillions of new spending that blew up the deficit is not accurate - AT ALL.
Regarding jobs:
The ARRA (Stimulus) did - according to the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office - save or create jobs. The CBO was required to publish a quarterly analysis of the effect of the ARRA. The reports can be found at CBO.GOV. Search for ARRA and you can find the links to the reports.
The ARRA was not as effective as was hoped. It was like having a four foot ladder to climb out of an eight foot hole.
Addition stimulus efforts - like infrastructure spending - that have routinely, with bi-partisan solid approval, been done to help the country recover from every recession in the past, have been blocked by the Republicans.

Here is what I found out about welfare reform:

This is why you should not just believe everything you read or hear!!!

Temporary Assistance for Needy Families Information Memorandum
http:/
/www.acf.hhs.gov/programs/ofa/policy/im-ofa/2012/im201203/im201203.html
Background:
Section 1115 of the Social Security Act provides authority for the Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to consider and approve experimental, pilot, or demonstration projects which, in the Secretary’s judgment, are likely to assist in promoting the objectives of Title IV-A. Section 1115 allows for waiver of compliance with section 402 of the Social Security Act to the extent and for the period necessary to enable a state to carry out an approved project. The statute also provides authority for costs of such projects which would not otherwise be an allowable use of funds under Part A of Title IV to be regarded as an allowable use of funds, to the extent and for the period approved.
As specified in statute, the purpose of Part A is to increase the flexibility of states in operating a program designed to: (1) provide assistance to needy families so that children may be cared for in their own homes or in the homes of relatives; (2) end the dependence of needy parents on government benefits by promoting job preparation, work, and marriage; (3) prevent and reduce the incidence of out-of-wedlock pregnancies and establish annual numerical goals for preventing and reducing the incidence of these pregnancies; and (4) encourage the formation and maintenance of two-parent families.
Purpose:
HHS is encouraging states to consider new, more effective ways to meet the goals of TANF, particularly helping parents successfully prepare for, find, and retain employment. Therefore, HHS is issuing this information memorandum to notify states of the Secretary’s willingness to exercise her waiver authority under section 1115 of the Social Security Act to allow states to test alternative and innovative strategies, policies, and procedures that are designed to improve employment outcomes for needy families.
States led the way on welfare reform in the 1990s — testing new approaches and learning what worked and what did not. The Secretary is interested in using her authority to approve waiver demonstrations to challenge states to engage in a new round of innovation that seeks to find more effective mechanisms for helping families succeed in employment. In providing for these demonstrations, HHS will hold states accountable by requiring both a federally-approved evaluation and interim performance targets that ensure an immediate focus on measurable outcomes. States must develop evaluation plans that are sufficient to evaluate the effect of the proposed approach in furthering a TANF purpose as well as interim targets the state commits to achieve. States that fail to meet interim outcome targets will be required to develop an improvement plan and can face termination of the waiver project.
The demonstration authority provided by section 1115 and sound evaluation of approved projects will provide valuable knowledge that will help lead to improvements in achieving the purposes of the TANF program.
Its like the banksters have said. "We've got your money now go fnck yourself!
So you realy think we need to borrow another couple of trillion. We just did that 3 years ago for shovel ready projects. We are paying like 4 billion a day in interest. I just dont honestly see how borrowing more money is going do anything but dig us deeper in the hole. I have a very stong feeling that what it boils down to is we are spending more than we are taking in. We can raise taxes on the wealthy and that will help some but I think we need to spend less than we bring in. Call me crazy but thats what I did in my household until I became disabled. Now Im spending all my savings because I have nothing coming in.
@xxx ooo
"frick"? I thought it was "floss".
Fine. We'll stop the Bush wars, end the Bush tax cuts for millionaires, save the US manufacturing industry (more quickly if republicans would get out of the way) to increase revenue, increase fuel efficiency standards by 200% in the next ten years, and develop American renewable energy sources so we stop sending hundreds of billions of dollars per year to middle-Eastern countries that despise us. Between that and reforming the military industrial complex, the massively wasteful and inefficient health care in this country and a few other options should make a big dent.
Keep dreaming we just spent tax payer money to prove mermaids dont exist.
How much did that cost compared to fighting two wars for ten years each based on false information and arrogance? Compared to a completely unfunded Medicare Part-D plan? Compared to cutting taxes that were already at the lowest they've been in the history of the country? Compared to Reagan killing renewable energy 25 years ago, encouraging dependence on fossil fuels for decades to come?
High rolla, you're right. We do need to cut back on spending but it doesn't have to be Medicare and such. If we had a government that believed in our country and our people as a whole and not just for the 1%er's, it could be done.
Republicans want to cut needed programs and claim they've reduced the size of our government YET turn around and hire 'contractors' and claim they create jobs. What they don't tell you is those jobs are for certain elite people. Think Halliburton - http:/ /www.commondreams.org/views05/1117-22.htm (Again, remove the space between the //'s when you copy & paste the link.) Or Blackwater (now Xe). What they also don't tell you is the government is actually paying more for these 'contractors' than we are/were paying for the programs. (How much did Blackwater make while our men and women were dying for less than minimum wage?) Think about it. Don't companies LOVE getting government contracts?? Why do you think that is? And does this really make financial sense?
HR, you say you're on disability. Please don't vote Republican. If you do, no offense, but you'll be cutting your nose off to spite your face.
Im skeptical that its republican and not dems like Reid and Nancy. What it looks like to me is dems want more government and repuks want less. In reality how long woud it take to just tax the top 1% up to 80 or 90%. You make a very good point way to many tax credits and subsides help the wealthy. Solar panels and electric cars are two examples. How many poor people could pay for a 8500.00 car and wait on a tax refund. However alot of these energy programs are suported by Obama and the dems. Look at Solyndry what a disater. Look at elimanating the space program we now are sending taxpayer money to Russia for transportation to outer space.
Caregive I have stage 3 COPD but just became disabled 5 months ago so I havent started drawing ss disablity yet and Im having to fight to get my short term and long term from the compamy I worked for. I am a vet though so I do get my meds mailed to me. However if the gov runs out of money it want matter. I personaly have some great ideas that would bring in revnue but neither the dems or repuks would do them at a fed level. Weed, online poker, brothels and charge evey vehicle 1.00 that enters a nat park.
It's very easy to be skeptical-with both parties. There's a lot of info out there. But how do the Democrats want to increase government? And how do the Republicans want to reduce government?
If the government hired people to repair/build our bridges, would it really be that bad? Since all of those people would be paying taxes out of their paychecks, it couldn't be considered getting a "free ride". I admit those paychecks will still cost the government some but how different would that be than giving the 1%er's tax cuts? And would those same people who are repairing/building our bridges be spending their money here in this country or stockpile it in offshore accts? Google FDR. You might find some interesting reading.
Personally, I wouldn't mind the government giving wind and solar companies subsides as long as they stopped giving oil companies subsides. If wind and solar companies received subsides, the cost of buying those will go down for us. Yes, Solyndry was a disaster. But even Romney agrees, and has said, not all investments are going to pay off. If Romney is elected as President, would it be ok if he makes a bad investment? BTW, did you know we're in the process of creating solar paint? Can you imagine the possibilities? And NASA isn't dead. Because we are using Russia as transportation, we are free to concentrate on Science and Exploration. Check out this link
http:/ /www.nasa.gov/recovery/index.html
(Again remove the space between the //'s.)
Because NASA is free to concentrate on Science and Exploration they are no longer under deadline pressures. Maybe once again we can make our way back to being the #1 country in space exploration.
I'm sorry to hear you have stage 3 COPD. Getting SS disability was a headache to get back in the 90's but I don't know about now. I'll give you credit for being creative. :-) I wouldn't have a problem paying a $1 to enter a national park. DH would agree with you in legalizing pot but my ex had a gambling problem. That might destory some marriages. The one time DH & I went to Las Vegas the pimps were quite bold. I don't know if I could live around that 24/7.
Details details why would anyone want to know what Wrong Way has done at his years at Bain or his past years tax returns? Ho hum...I want more proof Obama was born in the USA! If Wrong Way wants to bring jobs back from China what's he waiting for most of them are under his control anyway! Consider it an act of good faith.
Romney's economic plan for improving the unemployment rate is what or where? The Ryan budget gives more tax cuts to the rich. We also had record profits for large corporations of $2 trillion last year and similar profits are anticipated this year. The stock market Dow Jones Average is at 12,500 plus. Unemployment is slowly getting better although it would be much better had the GOP passed the American Jobs Act with an estimated 2 million jobs saved or created. Taxes are at an all time low for over two generations under President Obama. So where are all those GOP supply side "trickle down" jobs for the middle class?
We should be creating more jobs but the problem is that middle class has no more money. Wealth inequality is a major problem with the richest quintuple of households owning 85% of the total net worth and 93% of the financial wealth in the United States in 2007 (Domhoff 2010). So with the middle class having no money to spend how will Mitt Romney's plan for making the Bush tax cuts permanent increase middle class job opportunities? I will let you in on a secret: Mitt Romney's economic plan won't do one single thing for middle class Americans who are unemployed or underemployed except cut and gut their social safety net. Facts are inconvenient things for conservatives aren't they?
Rex we don't understand how the system works. Just ask the woman with the fancy nails in the Range Rover she does!
Yet cities are dropping like flies going bankrupt.
Proof trick-U-all economics is working!
Rex...just to make sure that we are using FACTs for the discussion here...the reason the average tax rate is down under Obama is because the average household income is down 17% under his and the Democrats leadership.
That is something you libtards should really be proud of...
just saying..
Are you really that dense? Average tax percentage rate by income brackets has absolutely nothing to do with the average earned income by the population. The income tax rates are set by the income level, it matters not how many people are in those particular income brackets. No wonder republicans can't manage to govern when they're in the majority, they don't even understand the basics.
How stupid can you be Coracil? I hope for the sake of our country that other Democrats are not as oblivious as you are.
Using your silly logic, you believe that a family making $101,000 last year and making $84,000 this year would be paying the same tax rate. WRONG.
The basics are this...Democrats are saying that the tax rate on an average American family is less than it was in the past. Its not because the rate has gone down, it is because since they are not making as much money, they are paying on a lower rate and thus, they are paying a lower tax rate.
The rates did not change...the amount of money that you make has.
just saying...
Just proving your complete and total ignorance of the tax codes of this country once again. When you're comparing the tax rates paid by a percentage basis from year to year it would be completely ignorant and idiotic to compare people making different income levels for your comparison. The only accurate way to compare tax rates would be to compare what people with the exact same income paid as a percentage in varying years. Using this only accurate method of comparing tax rates the people (and not coincidentally business as well) are paying the lowest effective tax rates at any. Time in the history of this country. You may want to remember the old saying "better to keep your mouth shut and let others believe you to be an idiot then to open your mouth and remove all doubt".
And as for your incomes going down comment, maybe if the do-nothing republicans would get out of the way instead of constantly attacking the poor and middle class of the country instead of constantly brown-nosing the millionaires we'd see some progress.
And you have just proven to everyone that you are an idiot...
Comparing rates from one year to the next is an exercise in futility unless you are looking at just the bottom line of effective tax rate as a percentage of income. Otherwise you get lost in the whole argument of the 70% rates from many years ago to the 35% rate of today. Sure, you are paying a lower rate now, but after deductions and write offs and everything else, in which generation were paying a lower effective rate.
the discussion was that the AVERAGE rate went down...well that can only happen one of two ways...either through a change in the rates or a drop in income. The last time I checked, the BUSH tax rates were still in effect and had not changed.
The only other option is that the income level had dropped...which it had. By 17%...thanks to the leadership of Obama and the Democrat control of the HOR from Jan 2007 - Dec 2010. AND the refusal of the Democrat controlled Senate to pass a budget for over 1100 days. AND the refusal of Harry Reid to vote on bills passed by the Republican controlled house. (hell, if he wanted to embarrass the Republicans, he would vote on the bills and then let them fail. He is afraid his own members will vote for them and they will pass)
I personally don't give a damn what the average rate is using the method you described. I want the average tax rate to be higher and higher on the average American, not lower and lower. WHY?. Because it means that AMERICANS are making more and more money. It means are country is successful. It means our citizens are employed.
You can't determine what the average American tax rate is by simply looking at the rates are in each category. Especially when nearly 50% of the population is not paying federal income tax at all.....
just saying...
Same old inaccurate information, it doesn't matter how many times you repeat it. The tactic of the republicans, repeat a lie as many times as possible with the hope that people will begin to believe it. The average tax rate for someone making $250,000 when Reagan took office was about 70%, it's currently 35% (assuming that people were actually paying their taxes and not sheltering their income in Grand Cayman or Switzerland like Mittens). It doesn't matter how many people are in the bracket above $250,000, the percentage stays the same. The only thing that changes is the amount of tax collected in that bracket if the number of people in it is reduced (which isn't the case, there's infinitely more people earning over $1 million per year as a percent of the population now than there was 30 years ago (even when adjusted for inflation the top wage earners have expanded exponentially). You're embarassing yourself with the false republican talking points. You'd be better off over at Red State, they'd probably believe you there.
and what was the effective tax rate on that 70% versus what it is now at 35% when you get to the bottom line?
You are right about one thing, regardless of how many people are in a bracket, the tax rate stays the same. Comparing incomes from 30 years ago to today is idiotic. Look at what is happening over a period of time when the rates are the same...like over the last 5 years.
Once again, as is typical for you libs, you miss the point...MORE americans are making LESS...that is why the AVERAGE American household income is down 17% under Obama. What happens in one particular bracket does not really matter....you have to look at America as a WHOLE...instead of trying to divide the country into parts like the Democrats love to do..
there is nothing false about my statements...they are all facts...something that you libs just don;t understand.
just saying...
The effective tax rate on the 70% bracket when Reagan was elected would have been darn close to 70% for the wealthy, compared to the 35% bracket for millionaires now with most paying closer to 15% thanks to the tax shelters and ridiculous capital gains laws allowing people that do nothing to earn their money to pay significantly less than the hard-working middle class. Comparing incomes from 30 years ago to today is easy, it's called adjusting for inflation and changed economic indicators. That may be over your head, but for people that understand economics it's fairly easy. The rates for every individual tax bracket and for business taxes are at the lowest percentage rate in the history of the country, how's that worked out for the "job creators"? The average income for the middle class and poor is down because republicans refuse to get out of the way, filibustering more in the Senate in the last 3 years than in the previous 50 years combined. Incomes for the upper 1% have increased by average over the last three years by more than 40%. The only ones struggling are the constituency that republicans could care less about and actively seek to harm with their policies. You talk about dividing the country, that's the specialty of wing-nuts. Either you're in the 1% or you're useless in their eyes. Like I said, try Red State as they'll support your consistently incorrect information.
you are so naive and misinformed it is hilarious. There are literally dozens of deductions that were available years ago which are no longer available...such as credit card interest, interest deductions on second homes, etc etc etc.. That helped to lower the effective rate of ALL Americans.
The AVERAGE household income in the US has dropped 17% under Obama's leadership and because of his policies which caused the unemployment rate to rise to nearly 10%. If it wasn't for the doctoring of the books which the Democrats are so proficient at, that number would have been much, much higher.
I didn't say that comparing was hard, it said it was IDIOTIC...just like you. Using your stupid logic, Obama has nothing to do with the tax rates being what they are...remember...you left wing nut jobs keep referring to them as the BUSH tax cuts? remember how upset you were about them, even though every American is enjoying the benefit of these lower rates that GWB gave this country?
Please feel free to point out any of my facts which were incorrect...
just saying...
And there's dozens of deductions and shelters currently available for much higher percentage values against the tax rates that were not available 30 years ago. Until 25 years ago Capital Gains (the vast majority of the income for the millionaires and above) were taxed at a rate about three times what they currently are. It's obvious that the willingly ignorant choose to remain that way, not worth debating with someone completely blinded to reality. Try Red State, they'll believe whatever you post as long as you end the sentence with a slander against the current President.
Don;t knock yourself for being willingly ignorant, just think of yourself as being a blind lemming, following the rest of the Dems off the cliff. When all else fails and you can not support your argument anymore, like most libs, you call names and run away. How typical...
just saying...
A case of the pot calling the kettle black, perhaps? Remember Forest Gump's line - "stupid is as stupid does"...
I'm just saying...

Actually its called Tricked-U-All Economics

And the dish ran away with the spoon.
And Mitt stole your chicken which makes you mad because now you have nothing to choke..
Romney is a liar. he has proven that as fact time and time again. He is blaming the wrong person for calling him out. Its the media thats exposing him. Grow up buddy you are running for president
In case someone comes back through here again the Center for Budget and Policy Priorities states in a March, 2012 report by Kelsey Merrick and Jim Horney, that the Ryan budget will cut $5.3 trillion more over 10 years than President Obama's budget plan. 62% of Ryan's cuts come from programs for the poor such as Medicare, SNAP/Food Stamps, Pell grants, and Student Loan programs plus a host of programs that help the poor or middle class. The Romney/Ryan budget will make the Bush tax cuts permanent and increase defense spending beyond what the Joint Chiefs of Staff say is necessary to defend the country. The Romney/Ryan budget will leave America with trillion dollar budget deficits for at least the next decade. So much for GOP concern about the budget deficit.
Great comments, Rex in Minnesota. Another example of Romney/Ryan misrepresentations - or Lies. They don't need the poor. They're just a drag on Romney's cash flow...
Ignoring evidence and facts are Repubs modus operandi. Tell the big lie loud enough and long enough it will eventually become the truth for many people. I have seen this first hand. Trying to dissuade the hoodwinked seems to be an exercise in futility. They have become "true believers".
Take these poor boobs out, President Obama! Just win, baby...
