In a week where the Obama re-election campaign has hammered on Mitt Romney to be more forthcoming on his financials, accusing him of either lying or committing a felony, the president laid into his challenger further during an interview with CBS’ Charlie Rose.
The president said “there are questions that need to be asked,” about Romney’s record on job creation and his plan for stimulating the economy during an interview Thursday morning, which will air in its entirety later this week.
“If you’re a head of a large private equity firm or hedge fund, your job is to make money. It’s not to create jobs. It’s not even to create a successful business—it’s to make sure that you’re maximizing returns for your investor. That’s appropriate.” Obama said, echoing a line of attack he has issued before. “But that doesn’t necessarily make you qualified to think about the economy as whole. As president, my job is to think about the workers. My job is to think about communities, where jobs have been outsourced.”
The president, who appeared in the interview with the first lady, said he didn’t think business experience “disqualifies” Romney as a presidential candidate, but he wants “to make sure we know what your theory is about how to grow the economy.”
Clearly the Obama campaign does not expect to let up on its attacks on Romney’s record at Bain Capital, the firm he co-founded.
The president also admitted his presidency hasn’t been perfect, saying he failed to inspire Americans when he first entered the White House.
“The mistake of my first couple of years was thinking that this job was just about getting the policy right,” Obama said. “That’s important, but the nature of this office is also to tell a story to the American people that gives them a sense of unity, and purpose and optimism especially during tough times.”
Daily Rundown's guest host Luke Russert discussed the new interview Friday (above), noting the Romney campaign had already issued a counter-statement that read in part: "Being president is not about telling stories. Being president is about leading."

Keep it up Obama.
Thats what Romney doing he just telling stories, the problem is you can't believe anything Romney says at all. His trying to buy the election for what purpose just to be president. If I had his money, I would just take it easy and enjoy life. Help the country in a different way.
So far Romney has been moving himself in the polls with lies and secrecy. We already intimately know the consequence of having a compulsive liar and his neo-con Administration that lied our country into two totally unnecessary wars to the tune of trillions. Bush delivered a country in a state of meltdown, massive debt and deficits, just for the benefit of his wealthy cronies. We can't afford another George Bush in the White House.
Gotta love it! All old woody did in the dark, is coming out to the light! Well deserved embarrassment for Rompey. He lies at every turn about President Obama and he's the dog in this election... signed documents for Bail Capital and on SEC filings while he supposedly wasn't working with Bain at the time. In your face little wooden man,.... you've been caught. Explains why he wouldn't release his tax returns. LOL
You all are just drinking the cool aid. I am not a big fan of Romney but can't you see that Obama is just another pol who can give a great speech (and OMG, is he good). We are on the precipice of a financial disaster that even the most bullish analysts say is approaching. Our June deficit spending was $60 billion - $20 billion more than June of last year. The theme of his campaign is disgraceful - class warfare - and it has absolutely nothing to do with what he proposes (because he hasn't proposed anything..) to get us out of this financial disaster. The soaring rhetoric is inspiring - I can see why people who are unwilling or unable to think for themselves will simply say, "sounds great - I'm going to vote for him." They're called sheeple.
Sheeples follow the gop talking point as spoon fed by foxnews.
I like class warfare, as I am tired of losing the class warfare.
bob from austin tx... that is something that I was expect from a woody lover. He's shot himself in the foot over and over again. Maybe he though that no one would find out his underhanded ways. Oh well...chalk one up for the good guys!!! HE'S BUSTED!!
We are on a financial precipice but not for the reason you state. Since George Bush and his neo-cons our government has been operating in deficit spending due to massive unfunded tax cuts, a Big Pharma government subsidized drug and two corporate interest wars of choice fought on a Chinese credit card and tax policies that rewards off-shoring corporations and irresponsible financial de-regulations. 60% of national, multinational and transnational corporate America not paying Federal taxes. Figures for 2011 in corporate tax contribution to Federal revenue pool was only 9% most of that paid in by the truly small corporations and not the Koch Industries and Bechtels who abuse the provision for tax evasion. You can't fight two wars for ten years, occupy two foreign countries, reduce taxes and expect not to face massive debt and deficit. Your the dull witted sheepel if you believe the BS you write.
My god, now it's Fox News. So watch MSNBC and make yourself feel better as they bash Romney and free yourself of any need to think for yourself.
Tired of losing the class war? Adjust your expectations or get a good education and improve your skills. I paid and borrowed my way through undergraduate and graduate school (and paid off my school loans without whining), and used to make extremely good money, but got laid off so now my life is much different. I am actually happier without the money, but it's all a matter of what you want.
I would have gladly paid extra taxes on my marginal income over $250K, but that will solve nothing. The extra tax on the wealthy that Obama is proposing will service our debt for about one day. Great economic plan as financial armageddon approaches.
But hey defunding ACORN, that got us all the money we needed.
Yes, I am tired of the poor/middle class losing the class war. If you favor the rich getting more then keep licking Romneys behind.
ROMNEY = his own worst enemy. Priceless!!!
President Obama signed the bill that de-funded ACORN in 2009. I support community-based organizations, not the ones that go national and become corrupted like ACORN.
Are you "fighting" or giving up? Don't give-up!! And don't rely on anyone in the government to make you think they will help you "win" because it's nothing but political b.s. You need to do it for yourself. Go to school, find a mentor, explore your options - but, never give-up.
If it makes you feel better to just sit back, do nothing but post angry messages that simply parrot what you're hearing from a politician, you're life will never change.
Says the guy who simply parrots what he hears from his repub pols.
For someone who claims they can think for themselves, good ole bob here sure sounds exactly like fox news, who knew?
If someone can't understand the simple reality in Obama's comment...that we need to hear Romney's plan for an economic turn-around; that running a series of Leveraged Buyout "schemes" doesn't prepare you to grow an economy...then I see no point in arguing with them. There should be a minimum level of intelligence and logic (as opposed to Motivated Reasoning") required of any meaningful socio-political discourse.
Personally, I think repeating the same nonsense you've heard on Right Wing Propaganda media falls a level even below Motivated Reasoning. It's time we set a minimum standard and held to it...stupid, pointless arguments are wasting the precious time this country has left to adequately respond to genuine crises.
You know what I think. I think Mitt Romney doesn't want the Presidency badly enough to show us all the billions he is hiding. I think he will simply continue to operate under the illusion that the majority of the American people are too stupid to care and hate President Obama so much until the fact that he is a tax dodger and a lier won't really matter. History will show that he was actually the stupid one.
