Republican congresswoman Michele Bachmann is promoting a new anti-Muslim conspiracy theory. Last month, she told a radio host that the Muslim Brotherhood has infiltrated the federal government, and earlier this month she joined with several other House Republicans to demand an investigation of certain Muslims serving in the government, including Hilary Clinton's deputy chief of staff, Huma Abedin (who is married to former congressman Anthony Weiner).
Ron Reagan -- the son of the former president by the same name -- joined MSNBC's Chris Matthews to talk about Bachmann's new witch hunt. "She is an integral part of the Republican brand," noted Reagan. "While Mitt Romney, let's say, may not believe that there's a Muslim Brotherhood conspiracy in the State Department or U.S. government, some people do. And if you vote for Mitt Romney, that comes with him. This is part of the Republican Party today."
Indeed, Reagan brings up an important point. If Bachmann and her colleagues don't represent the Republican Party, then why is the party not condemning her witch hunt?
While Republicans have failed to challenge the congresswoman's Islamophobic crusade, Rep Keith Ellison, Congress's first elected Muslim, is. He sent a letter to Bachmann asking her to provide "credible substantial evidence" of her claims against Abedin and the rest of the federal government.

GO Rep Ellison! (He is my rep) Hopefully my neighbors in the 6th District will FINALLY have had enough of her this fall...here's wishing, anyway. :)
Bachmann must of taken LSD some time many years ago, and is still on a bad trip.
i don't care about brothehood , i don't care about conservatives
but before she judge people ,she need 2 learn more about them :
shalom
Having Chris Mathews back is most excellent (though Smerconish was exceptional, filling in). I thought that this segment was needed and presented clarity for anyone paying attention. Thank you, Chris. Calling out Bachmann is essential to aiding in getting all of this Islamophobic blather, out of any public discourse.
thou shalt not bear false witness..the problem for the religious crazies is JESUS. He just wasn't angry enough at people. in fact, he rather liked them and looked at the world with compassion. JESUS would not last 15 minutes in today's republican party.
I just do not understand individuals like Congresswoman Bachmann, it is almost like she only needs to hear something different than her belief and she goes all wacky towards it. How do people like this get voted into office?
Republican congresswoman Michele Bachmann has long since LOST her creditbility especially (1) if one just listens to what comes out of her mouth, (2) realize that she was one of those members of Congress who initally created the orginal bill that attempted to pass SOPA, which attemtped to control the internet and the individuals who use it, and when one uses NAME Calling using religion to get the country's attention, one immediately knows that this use of attention is a negative, for which Republicans are known for which is lying, name calling and attempting to create FEAR in anyone that is willing to take what 'someone has to say' without doing their own homework/research. This woman is really quite narrow, unethical, ignorant of what the REAL world is and what it seems to be, is how Congresswoman Bachmann, is more concerned with using the window on the world from which she views the world, as she would like it to be, than how reality is, so as to actually benefit her and her party's goals, just like my House of Representative from Texas, who does the same thing...consistancy, even when it's bad is good, because then one knows what can be expected. Let's think about this too, the husband of Huma Abedin, who is former congressman Anthony Weiner, who will be making a new start in politics, my question is what could be the emphasis be or empact on him getting back to office. Weiner was very popular and very good in politics even though he got a little carried away on the interest. How might this Republican anti-Muslim conspiracy theory benefit have on Huma and Weiner's success with Weiner getting back into politics? From my reseach, Huma Abedin is an asset to our country and for Ms Clinton; Again, Michele Bachmann could be equated with Congressman McCarthy of many years before and I'm sure she will be remembered that way, in conjuction with the Communist baiter, Allen West, but that's all the room in history, that the American people will give either of these individuals because they haven't earned anything else.
