On Sunday's Meet the Press, Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper expressed skepticism that tougher gun laws could have prevented Friday's massacre in Aurora, Colorado.
"I think that [gun control] debate's going to happen, it has already started. But you look at this person, again, almost a creature, if he couldn't have gotten access to guns, what kind of bomb he would have manufactured. We're at a time an information age where there's access to all kinds of information," he said. "I think he was almost a terrorist that wanted to take away not just from the people here, but from the country, our ability to enjoy life, to go to a movie theater. Which for most of us is a refuge where we can get away from the pressures of life. It's a human issue. How are we not able to identify someone like this who is so deeply, deeply disturbed?"
The Hill notes that Hickenlooper also seemed to dismiss calls for tougher gun control during an interview on CNN's State of the Union. "This person, if there were no assault weapons available, if there were no this or no that, this guy's going to find something. Right? He's going to know how to create a bomb," he said.
President Obama will be visiting with the victims of the shooting on Sunday.

There is never a reason to carry around a gun among other people. A legal license doesn't evaluate your state of mind during your life time.
Humans snap when under pressure for many different reason and a license doesn prevent you from freaking out and it certainly doesnt prevent you from not using a gun.
I see no reason for ordinary citizens to carry or own a machine gun or guns made only for the reason to kill other people. I would say that these people is not mentally stable and should not be allowed to have any guns.

On the second count, this individual was head to toe in ballistic gear. Unless you can get a head shot on somebody like that, there's no way to take him out. I'm good, but not that good. I agree. A license to carry should be good anywhere. I won't go to a theater that's a "gun free zone". At least here in TX, they have to post a sign with certain specs at each entrance, so for the most part, I look at their declaration that "weapons are not allowed", chuckle & carry my smith & wesson 1006 in anyway, knowing it's unenforceable.
Some crimes cannot be prevented. It would be great if the powers that be would ban assault rifles, but of course, they won't.
Other than that, you cannot predict single gunman massacres. You just have to pause in horror of the event and then go on with your life. There may be copycats out there, but as the Draconian methods used to prevent another 9/11 prove, there are certain things that happen no matter what systems are in place and no matter how much money you throw at them. This is a sad fact of life. And, please, Homeland Security (which sounds a little fascist to me) is not the reason there have been no further attacks on the USA. If someone wants to attack, they will find a way. All Homeland Security has done is cost god know how many dollars and inconvenienced millions of Americans. Air marshals, and electronic surveillance equipment can't provide iron-clad protection.

While I understand your frustartion, your statement is what's called a logical fallacy (sounds logical but isn't really true). There is no such thing as absolute security, even in a police state. What the governor is saying is that someone who wants to find a way to hurt people will find a way. An example is the bombs. Many household materials can be used to make bombs or other weapons. And, even if assault weapons were eliminated, there still would be shootings (i.e. Toronto last month). It's possibly true there would be fewer casualties, but life doesn't offer guarantees, only possibilities.
The criminals will get guns no matter what laws are on the books. Gun control will just make it essayer for the bad guy to commit crimes against the good guy.
Law abiding will be disarmed. Outlaws will just do what they're going to do. That's why they're called OUTLAWS.

The excuse "he would have found something else" is so completely intellectually dishonest. It's much, much harder for someone to build a bomb (even with detailed internet instructions) than it is for someone to get their hands on a semi-automatic assault rifle and teach themselves how to use it.
There's absolutely no reason any civilian in this country should be able to purchase the amount of weaponry this guy did WITHOUT ANY KIND OF RED FLAG being thrown. If you don't want to outright ban assault rifles, certainly there should be some kind of system in place that makes it more difficult to purchase an abundance of guns and ammunition.

Another example is that you compare the following.
