The National Rifle Association (NRA) might not like it, but the majority of Americans believe in tougher gun control.
As Michael Eric Dyson reported on The Ed Show Monday, a Pew poll found a minority of Americans interested in stricter gun laws—just 45%. But when other pollsters asked specific questions about restrictions, they found a different picture:
86 percent believe in further background checks, regardless of where a gun is purchased (January 2011 American ViewPoint/Momentum Analysis poll)
63 percent want a ban on high capacity clips (January 2011 CBS News poll)
69 percent want to limit the number of guns a citizen can buy in a period of time (April 2012 Ipsos/Reuters poll)
66 percent want a National gun registry (January 2011 American ViewPoint/Momentum Analysis poll)
88 percent want to prohibit those on the terror watch list from buying guns (January 2011 American ViewPoint/Momentum Analysis poll)
And yet, Congress has been unable to pass stricter gun laws and a spokesman for President Obama said he would not be pursuing such laws in the wake of Friday's mass shooting in Aurora, Colo.
Loop21.com’s Keli Goff said the NRA's is to blame.
“Apparently we have four branches of government, not three—the executive, judicial, legislative and the NRA," Goff said. "That seems to be the fourth branch of government that’s running things in this country. Neither party, including President Obama, has the courage to go toe to toe with them.”
Goff said gun rights supporters have been trying to put off a conversation about gun safety with warnings not to politicize the tragedy.
“They’re counting on the fact that we’re going to say this is not the right time to talk about this,” Goff said. “When are we allowed to talk about it, if not now?”

Guns don't kill.
People kill.
This young adult slipped through the cracks of our Mental Health Care System.
A Health Care System with a Billion Cracks!!
Fix the mental heath care system and help people identify those with illness and you will not see this kind of Violence.
Chicago has the Strictest Guns laws in the Nation.
Chicago has the most Gun Violence in the Nation
People with guns kill people. I and really tired of hearing the lame excuses from the NRA that more guns will make us safer. States with the most guns, are a States with the highest death rates. Lame, lame, lame.
Actually, California has the strictest gun laws in the nation.
All weapon sales in California must be face to face (no online purchase). The dealer is required to evaluate your mental state as a condition of sale.
You must pass a 30 question handgun safety test before you can take possession and purchase is void within 30 days if you fail to pass the test (must re-start the 10 day wait). Most people require a class. There are questions like "may you discharge a weapon over a dry stream bed?" and "can you discharge a weapon from a moving vehicle?" It is doubtful that any crazy person could pass this test.
The mandatory wait while DoJ processes your ID for firearms sales is 10 calendar days. The state will process your ID to determine if you are authorized (not a felon, ...).
California has a limit of no more than 1 handgun purchase each 30 days except for people with dealer/broker/curio license or law enforcement.
California bans large capacity weapons holding over 10 bullet-rounds or 3 shot-rounds.
All ammunition sales are reported to law enforcement.
These laws limit the carnage associated with some of the nations most infamous massacres without interfering with 2nd amendment rights.

California has some of the most dangerous areas and highest crime cities in america.
Their firearm laws are all superficial and based on looks over functioning of firearms. 10 round limits on magazines does what exactly? Reloading can easily be done, so can just driving to another state to buy higher capacity mags. There have already been shootouts like the N hollywood shootout in which men armed with illegally possesed full auto rifles shot up the area around a bank, no laws cali could pass would affect that from hapening. They tried baning .50 BMG rifles for the people, then their police departments wanted them for themselves (For what exactly nobody knows). Everything they have done has completely been done based on fear, lack of knowledge, and emotional opinions.
Cause and effect can't be proven on mass shootings VS gun control by saying cali hasn't had a bunch of mass homicides because of the gun control, since there are many states that have so called "lax" laws that have not had any mass homicides whatso ever with firearms. All the laws do is give the fearful, and the uninformed a security blanket that they believe protects them. If they actually knew more about guns and the truth they would realize that the security blanket is mearly a wet paper bag that doesn't offer any protection. Cali takes the motto of "Regulate rather then Educate", after all its easer to be ignorant and have a opinion then it is to know the truth try to get others to realize it.
California may have the strictest gun control laws, but just to the east of Southern California is Arizona, which has almost no gun control laws - likely with no need for the NRA to threaten legislators. Pima County, where Tucson is the County Seat, would like to have stricter gun control laws, but can't because Maricopa County (Phoenix Metropolitan Area, home of Sheriff Joe Arpaio) effectively has legislative control over the entire state.
However, the broader point is that effective gun control legislation requires a federal mandate for minimal gun control laws, with which the states must comply.
Another point is that the US Supreme Court, when it deemed Wash. D.C.'s weapons ban unconstitutional, effectively equated "Well-Regulated Militia" with "Law-Abiding Citizen" - which is outright unacceptable when it comes to weapons designed for military purpose: sniper rifles, automatic & semi-automatic weapons, etc. In that context, how long will it be before the NRA pushes for possession of WMDs, helicopter gunships, or tanks?
A point that Chris Matthews made on Hardball (preceding The Ed Show), is that during the Revolutionary War era, when the US Constitution and Bill of Rights were written and approved, the weapon of choice for the individual soldier was a musket, and the closest thing to a WMD was a cannon. I have to agree with Chris, that framer's intent for the Second Amendment, was not for individuals to have the right to possess machine guns. For members of a Well-Regulated Militia to possess machine guns, to be secured in an Armory, to be removed only when warranted, within jurisdiction of that Well-Regulated Militia, to counter unlawful acts by the federal government. (Basically, when the Constitutional Leader substitutes the Constitutional rule-of-law to achieve ends detrimental to the constituents. However, as it often has been in history, the pen is mightier than the sword (e.g., Ellsberg & The Pentagon Papers); that adage is most certainly true now. Better yet, is the combination of pen and camera, as the well-taken picture with context-providing caption can be quite devastating to the "party line," as has been shown with Wiki-leaks, or the instigation of Arab Spring. Additionally, Civil Disobedience is more powerful than Armed Insurrections, as far as gaining sympathy goes.
Chuck...
Where does your comparison to a cannon and WMD have any basis as to this discussion? Since nearly every man already owned a musket, that most needed in order to provide food for their family, why do you think the framers would have wanted the muskets or other weapons to be held in an armory? who determines when it is warranted? Who would the person call when someone was breaking into their house?
I am in favor of reasonable gun control. What does that contain? That is where the real discussion begins.
You can have all the laws and controls in place, but when hate takes over an individual there is not much anyone can do. He could have walked in with Molotov cocktails and most likely created more carnage. It's not guns, its people.
But he didn't why because he could buy the guns. The thing you tea bagged republicans keep missing is you ignore what he did do and come up with these silly nonsense scenarios that you make up in your delusional minds. No one is saying gun laws will stop a deranged person from acting out but why make it easier for them to act out.
It is likely that most Americans will have no say in the gun control matter. We have a T-party led congress who are in bed with the NRA. As for Obama, he can't do it. It is a political hot potato this year. Nothing is going to change.
I wonder where the next tragedy will occur.
Any questions?
We as a family own seven guns: three rifles, three shot guns, and one 9mm. We also have a Long Tom over our fireplace, which is merely decorative. We have one BB gun, one Pellet gun, and two squirt guns.
If we didn't own those guns, we wouldn't eat venison, wild turkey, pheasant, grouse, squirrel or bear. There are a few restrictions on gun ownership, but it's generally pretty easy for almost anyone to get one.
Now, compare that to raising OTHER types of meat: cattle, swine, poultry, etc. We have TONS of restrictions on reporting, feeding, breeding, and selling the meat. It's almost impossible to do it, unless you do it illegally. Why would we have more regulations on domesticated farm animal production than on gun control?
Follow the money, honey.
The states with the "toughest" gun laws have the most violent crime - the criminals know they are unchallenged.
What about the 14 illegal immigrants killed in Goliad, TX this weekend? 14 people out of 23 in one truck... What a about a crack-down on the approved method to transport illegals...
Drunk drivers kill more people than guns...but liberals drink to compensate for being liberal...
abortion kills way more than guns... just sayin"...
Guns in the hands of law-abiding citizens keep an un-reliable government and criminals at bay... get used to it - it's been that way in the USA for over 500 years - thank God!
Sorry, the NRA stepped up their robo calling as soon as this happened. This is shameless of them. The republicans took up the defense of guns.Shameless of them. Yes the deadly combination of mental health and gun disease.
Peace and Love, That is a lie. I wish it were true, but it is NOT. Stop lying for the damn NRA! Obama has never advocated gun control, ever. I WISH!
Perhaps you'd like to contribute to the "socialist" lie, too, while you're trolling.
on Sat. july 21, 2012, "UP" with Chris Hayes:
'angry old guy' wrote this-"the 2nd amendment was written to ensure that militia members could maintain and carry their military equipment at drills on their way to duty and prevent the local or state gov't's from infringing on that mandated duty the militia act of 1792 listed what constituted arms and the universal membership of 18-45 yr. old males".
"individual guns and their ownership is technically a 9th amendment right. when most of the population required a gun to survive it was a given that there was a right to own a gun".
"finally, to quote barry goldwater on assault weapons as hunting weapons, 'any s.o.b. who needs more than one shot to kill a deer, shouldn't be hunting'".
Suzette, True, and thank you. No one but you has clarified that.
""which is outright unacceptable when it comes to weapons designed for military purpose: sniper rifles, automatic & semi-automatic weapons, etc. In that context, how long will it be before the NRA pushes for possession of WMDs, helicopter gunships, or tanks?""
Your opinion is based on fear and lack of knowledge. Let me explain:
Your average modern "hunting rifle" can hit a target at 600 yards with a good shooter. Possibly all the way to 1000 yards if its a quality rifle. A so called "sniper rifle" is nothing more then a term the media throws around to make it sound like the only purpose of a rifle is to "shoot people". This is a scare tactic, and has little to with reality.
Second, rifles such as ar-15s are no more dangerous then many other "non military" rifles. They shoot one bullet for every pull of the trigger, no different then any other semi auto firearm on the market. You can get 30+ round magazines for many other semi auto "non military" style rifles too. People focus on the ar-15 extensively in a effort to say its overly dangerous and nobody needs one. Well as of right now its the most popular selling style of rifle, its in more homes then ever, yet if you look at the FBI's crime statistics its used in virtually no crimes. That is because criminals favor cheap handguns because they can be concealed and don't draw attention.
Its funny to me that you mention tanks, and gunships like they can't be owned. If you have enough money you can legally own both of those things. Not to mention if you have the money you can own Full auto firearms, mini guns, destructive devices, etc. That already exists in this country right now, and last time I checked the last time a legally owned full auto firearm was used in a crime was by a officer over 20 years ago. In the overwhelming majority of crime where a person used a firearm, the firearms used were not any of the "dangerous weapons nobody should own" that your talking about.
The media is hyping up gun control over this horrible tragedy. How many people realize that if there had been one or two licensed concealed carry people in the audience they could have stopped the shooter before he killed and injured so many. There is a town in GA that mandates that the head of each households possesses and maintains a firearm. They have one of the lowest crime rates in the country and only one murder since 1990.
If more were legally armed the maniacs wouldn't get far .
What part of body armor escapes your John Wayne fantasies? Right a bunch of armed nit wits with gun slinger fantasies blasting away in a crowded movie theater just what could go wrong.
Sounds like we need to have a discussion regarding regulating the sale of body armor, not weapons...
Straw man nonsense from capt re reg, body Armour doesn't kill people and you know that.
you are the one who just said in a previous statement that the reason that people with CCW would not have been able to do anything is because of the body armor. Well...if we regulate or stop the sale of body armor, then that would not have been the case. The constitution does not give anyone the right to body armor...
just saying...
No you are just making more capt re reg nonsense posts.
Better yet, since the Joker inspired him to do this, let's ban all Batman movies. We could make the ban retroactive and get rid of Catcher in the Rye and the Beatles White Album too.
Why stop at penalizing law abiding citizens who own firearms and enjoy them for sport? Movie, book and music fans should step into that strike zone and take one for the home team too.
After all, the government is responsible for taking things away from me that I enjoy, even though I hurt or threaten nobody, for my own good. I'd be just delighted to suffer the consequences of the lunatic actions of one deranged person.
I can always count on the police force, which is getting smaller because of budgetary constraints, to always protect me. I can depend on them being there to save me the second I need them. I will just hide in my bathtub when the thug trying to harm my loved ones shoots at me with a gun he got illegally (because criminals don't care if it's illegal.) When I'm crouched in the bathtub I will be in a perfect position to kiss my own ass goodbye.
These are awesome ideas.
Right except that don't hold water chi. What is it with you people thinking that all your answers to lifes problems can be settled by acting out your John Wayne fantasies based on a fantasy life that never existed except on TV. Here is a clue you make it easier for citizens to get guns you make it easier for criminals and insane people to get weapons.
India......Pictures.....Hey I had my page go to white before, but never to black....what happened?
http://www.bing.com/images/search?q=picture+on+gun+control&id=233E499FA285154D946434502CC282277AA42017&FORM=IQFRBA
The gangsters in Chicago have no problem getting guns, all of which come from illegal black market sources. Gangsters don't buy guns from a gun store. The homicide rate is at an all time high there, and guns are banned.
It's not a "John Wayne fantasy" of mine to like owning and shooting guns. I've never had the need or desire to use a firearm against another human being. That is a false label you've chosen to pin on me based on nothing.
That being said, it's not a hero fantasy to be ready and willing to protect myself against someone who is trying to do me harm. I am ready for that, (I've been trained) because the reality is that it's just as likely someone might break into my home wanting to harm me as it is for some nut case to bust into a movie theater and kill people. Everyone in my house knows how to shoot.
Granted the likelihood of someone doing that is not great. I for one don't want to spin the wheel just because it's statistically unlikely for it to happen. The first thing a victim says is that "I never thought this would happen to me."
So you can keep your fantasy that the cops and the government will keep you safe. Keep spinning the wheel that you'll never be in a situation where you are attacked and unable to defend yourself. If it doesn't matter to you then I guess that's your business and possibly your funeral. You are free to make your own choices, just don't tread on my rights because you think you know what's best for me.
As for myself, it's not a John Wayne fantasy to be fully trained and prepared to defend my life and my property from threats. It's called training and preparedness. It doesn't mean I want to do it. It just means I can if I have to. And nobody is going to take that right away from me.
I have lived in a state where when you go to clubs, you get a pat down. Or go through something a lot like you do at an airport. I don't mind, because I'm always going places people tell me I shouldn't go. I don't look at everyone will suspicion because of the color of their skin, or culture. Hey, I like it like that.

I've never had a page go either white or black that I recall. I am using one of those images you put up on that link! I like it.
I have them go white 2 to 3 times a day. Never black.
Ms. Jane Timm,
You may want to do a bit of fact checking before you publish next time. According to state laws, which are all voted upon and ratified by state citizens (without exception), the vast majority of Americans favor LESS gun control and MORE right to bear arms.
Consider the following information, for example:
"While there is no federal law specifically addressing the issuance of concealed carry permits, 49 states have passed laws allowing citizens to carry certain concealed firearms in public, either without a permit or after obtaining a permit from local government and/or law enforcement. Illinois is the only state without such a provision."
U.S. state concealed-carry legislation map:
Concealed Carry Permit Reciprocity Maps:
EDIT: This site stripped my links, even after I edited. If the links do not display, Google search for "concealed carry states in US" ... this info is quite easy to find.
Shame on you, author. Bad journalism.
Wrong again but thats ok re reg we know that you have to make things up to feel better about your delusions.
The cat's out of the bag on gun control. There are so very many guns floating around America that even if we banned the importation, manufacture, repair and sale of all guns and ammunition tomorrow it wouldn't dent the availability of guns to lunatics in one hundred years. If we had any way of knowing how many guns we passed on the street every day none of would go grocery shopping or to the movies. The notion that we would be safer if we were all legally armed is ridiculous and dangerous because we are the gang that can't shoot straight. Imagine a theater full of people shooting at each other. I'm not saying we should not try to further restrict guns but until we have the will and courage to overcome our cowboy fantasies and the NRA, events like the Colorado theater massacre will continue to be so much collateral damage to imagined"freedom".
The harder they try to make America into their image, the worse America becomes. When will we finally stop letting the Right dictate our course? A FOX nation is a terrible Nation for real people.

And it still is no where near as you re regs obsessions with the Ed show blog that keeps kicking you out and you keep returning. Really you have no place talking about fixations when its clear who it is that has a problem.
Lol, no they don't
Most people like things the way they are.
Gun control does not prevent massacres or gun crimes and we all know it. Sorry libs.
All restrictions do is restrict law abiding citizens from protecting themselves and others.
It's a dangerous world out there. And history shows that it is even more dangerous in areas where guns are banned or over regulated.
Common sense yes, but we already have that.
We don't need NEW laws every time tragedy strikes.
And it's shameful that the left uses these tragedies to push controls, that they know wouldn't have changed a darn thing.
In a free Country. Stuff happens, and it would happen even if we weren't free.
Free is better. Armed is better.
And you know this because you are so firggin smart. Wow. We have let this idiot argument rue the day for to long.
tyrants talk too much,
Idiots rule in 2012 America. Nothing will change.
Add a gun ban to the drug ban? Why? Because we've done such a great job of banning drugs and eliminating drug mayhem?
We don't do prohibitions very well. We'd create a new black market. We would also turn tens of millions of Americans into armed criminals. Any such infringements would largely be ignored. guaranteed.
How myopic, selfish and self-serving all these comments are! All brawn, no brains.....except for 1.1/4/ & 4.1.....
To bad everyone hasn't had their liberal lens prescription updated.
Still pushing your John Wayne fantasies I see. Here is a clue if you think the answer to gum problems are more guns then you are delusional and should seek professional help before you end up shooting a bunch of Amish kids because Glen Beck told you thats where liberals hang out.
Really Reagan made you homeless yet you still support the GOP, really interesting that you blame democrats for what Reagan and the GOP did to you. After all everyone knows just how much of your life you try to project onto others. Even funnier is you are so delusional you think you have support and integrity on Ed's blog even though you been kicked off more times then Mittens double talked.
Who is this idiot Jane Timm? What a piece of stupid article . No apparent research no common sense . Wake up! Gun control would just increase the chances of similar tragedies such as this to happen more often as there wouldn't be anyone to stop them. A 71 year man in Florida stopped a pair of armed robbers because he carried and had the courage to stop them and possibly from killing someone. Just one example. Why doesn't the media carry more of the the good stories about carrying ?
As an American that has lived in Mexico for years I would like to add my personal testimony that strict gun laws do not stop gun violence. Criminals are very good at getting weapons when they want them despite the law, (they are criminals remember?). It only prevents good law abiding Americans from being armed. In Mexico City every house has bars on the windows and large steal doors because normal citizens are powerless to defend themselves against the armed criminals. It was a very scary environment. This is why our founders made this the second amendment. Very wise men.
Right because your deer rifle can take out a M-1 tank.
Handguns are banned in Mexico, but US citizens can legally purchase them and give them to Mexican citizens visiting the US.
No that would be you. See I know the difference between reality and fantasy, you on the other hand think you are John Wayne and the US is still having gun fights on the town street at noon.
H.R. 308: Large Capacity Ammunition Feeding Device Act (Rep. Carolyn McCarthy, D-NY4) Bans high-capacity clips except for military, police, and people registered with ATF. You don't need more than 10 rounds to kill Bambi. (click here)
Ammunition Accountability Act - allows ammunition recovered from 8,000+ murder victims to be traced back to the purchaser (click here).
California keeps track of every ammunition purchase for the same reason drugs stores keep track of allergy and cold medication that may be used to make illegal drugs. All ammunition sales are reported to law enforcement (click here).
The ammo accountability act was shot down in all states it was introduced. It was pushed for by the company that owned the technology (which wouldn't work and would increase the cost of ammo) to do what the bill forced. It was nothing more then an attempt for them to get rich. Same thing with firing pin micro stamping.
So we were right that it is you. panhead.
"Those who hammer their guns into plowshares will plow for those who do not."
Thomas Jefferson
"Our main agenda is to have all guns banned. We must use whatever means possible. It doesn't matter if you have to distort the facts or even lie. Our task of creating a socialist America can only succeed when those who would resist us have been totally disarmed."
Sara Brady
Except Sarah Brady is a republican.
http://www.allamericanspeakers.com/celebritytalentbios/Sarah-Brady
Whether she is a Republican or not makes no difference it is the people in power who want to transform this country into a socialist country
hmmm...save the republic...........
#11.2 Get over the socialism lie. This is hardly a socialist country, never was and never will be. Stop perpetuating the socialism lie.
Only ignorant T-party types believe that rot. Facts don't get in their way.
Gotoleft, I have seen absolutely no evidence of socialism in the president's policies. In fact, he is a centrist Democrat and much like Bill Clinton, who was never accused of being a socialist. Indeed, he has kept many of Bush's policies, which I find troubling.
I am more of a socialist than Obama! I want universal health care. The ACA was a good start, but a bonanza for the drug companies. There's nothing socialist about it. Ask its originator, Mitt Romney, head of the GOP. Of course, he now is appealing to the right-wing base, and disowns it. Mr. Flip-flop.

I love Rush Limbaugh type quotes like "useful idiots" Shows what the right listen to and watch till their brain goes numb.
Really? Because Hollande's agenda is a virtual carbon copy of Obama's. Hollande is quite proud of calling himself a socialist.
The only reason that word is being avoided by democrats is because they know it's distasteful to the majority of Americans, and to admit that Obama is a socialist would cost him the election.
How are Obama and Hollande the same?
1) Sacrificing debt reduction in favor of stimulus to promote economic recovery.
2) Dealing with deficits through tax increases rather than spending cuts. Both believe the “rich” are under-taxed. Hollande’s tax increases on the rich are higher than Obama’s. Hollande wants a 75 percent rate on those earning over 1 million Euros (about $1.3 million) and 45 percent on those earning over 150,000 Euros ($200,000). Notably, both define the “rich” at similar levels of income ($200,000 -$250,000). Obama might like to “soak the rich” more but knows that Hollande-like rates cannot fly politically in the United States.
3) Eliminating lower tax rates on investment income like capital gains and dividends. Both view lower tax rates for investment and risk taking, not as pro-growth measures, but as allowing the rich to escape paying their “fair share."
4) Hiring more public workers. Hollande calls for hiring 60,000 more educators, one thousand more police every year, and creating 150,000 state-aided jobs. Obama’s campaign warns against cuts in public service jobs, forced by Republican cutting-to-the-bone budgets.
5) Protecting the welfare state. Hollande proposes to keep the French retirement age at sixty and otherwise make no changes in France’s generous entitlement programs. Obama opposes Republican proposals to rationalize Medicare by turning it into insurance grants. Both fail to explain how they plan to pay for current entitlements other than to suggest taxing the rich.
6) Creating a public infrastructure bank to finance new infrastructure projects from state funds. They both would like to use infrastructure spending as a politically-saleable stimulus program, irrespective of the budget deficits it causes.
7) Fighting discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation, gender, or race. In France’s case, the race to be protected is Muslim minorities, who are French citizens or legal residents. In the US, it is Hispanics, who have entered the country illegally.
8) Cutting taxes on small businesses and provide preferences for businesses that return jobs to the home country. For both, small businesses are good, big businesses are bad.
9) Reducing the use of out-of-favor sources of energy. In France it is nuclear energy; in the US it is coal or, more broadly, carbon-based energy.
10) Campaigning against big finance. In the U.S., it is Wall Street. In France, it is big banks.
11) Cutting executive pay of the greedy captains of industry and finance. Hollande proposes to limit executive pay to twenty times the average wage, which would equal about $400,000 per year. Hollande’s figure is close to the $500,000 executive pay cap that Obama proposed for companies receiving federal assistance.
This is what I don't get. I am not a rocket scientist, therefore I will not argue about rockets in the middle of a group discussion at one of NASA's rocket science labs. In the same token anti-gun people will argue about guns they have A) never owned, B) never shot and C) don't even know how they work, with the NRA who is responsible for training more people about firearms and how to properly use them then any other organization in the history of mankind.
How can you be an expert on a subject that you don't know even know hardly anything about, other then statistics? Who would you go to if you wanted to learn more about guns, as in how to load/unload/shoot/be safe, the NRA (or another gun organization) or the brady campaign? One will tell you "they are evil and don't touch them", and thats the extent of their knowledge, the other one will provide you with actual training.
As much as the brady campaign and others have talked about kids being "slain" with guns, what have they done to help? Why have they not spent a lot of effort and money to train kids to stay away from guns and talk to an adult if they find one? They flat out don't want to have anything to do with guns (which is absolutely fine), but at the same time you shouldn't be posing as an expert in a field that you have no idea about.
On a last note, who do you think will be called in as a expert when it comes to firearm related issues, a person that trains others to use firearms, or the person with 1,000,000 opinions and not actual hands on experiance? I have had people say to my face "What does it matter if I have shot a gun/owned a gun or not" that doesn't change the fact laws need to be stricter. Think about that for a while......
truthofthematter, I have owned guns, and I have shot guns and I would like to see guns banned. Guns make it too easy to commit murders and crimes. They will always fall into the hands of either a nut-job or a criminal. I got rid of any guns when my children were born. I never felt safe with them after having children. Kids get killed by accident every day. That is really a tragedy I never wanted to have happen to my family.
You think about that for a while....
omg, we are about to get a terrible storm here. India out.
I knew there was a racist in there somewhere.
Its like tea bagged republicans hiding under beds for 8 years wetting themselves in fear every time GWB raised the terror alert from yellow to orange. Funny how they didn't come out until after Obama did the job GWB couldn't do. Now they are all brave heros again in their own minds.
How many more inocent people will have to die, before gun laws are inacted. To the people of the NRA their deaths are yours to live with, does it make you feel good, that thay died for your stupidity. Or are you people just blood thirsty, and would like more 6 year olds killed, for your stupid, reasons. I own guns, and don't feel threatened. I can do my hunting, target shooting, with a peace of mind. Only if my freedom is threatened, will I use it to protect my self. But this case in colorado, innocent unarmed people weree killed. This must make you feel big, and strong. This is not the old west, anymore. so grow up!
What gun law would have prevented this? How? Why is the CO incident a case of "guns killing people" and not "A man with mental health issues decided to murder innocent people"? What is the issue, the guns, or the man that killed people? Those people died because a man chose to kill them. It might be hard to accept since you can't control what a person decides to do, but on the other hand enacting "some law" wont exactly change people willing ot kill others. There is no control in life when it comes to keeping people with mental issues/homicidal tendencies from doing something, some will always fall through the cracks. If you feel that a law would have prevented this I hate to say it but that is nothing more then a security blanket.
Your accusations, childish demenor, and lack of any supporting arguments other then "gun laws need to be inacted" is not helping your case. What gun laws need to be enacted? A trained man with a revolver could have done what he did. The rifle he chose to use is no different then virtually any other semi-auto rifle on the market, and had he actually used a "hunting rifle" more people would have likely been killed.
I understand that this topic is a very emotional one. I care about what happened to the victims. However I wont however let my emotions cloud what the truth of the matter is. There is no silver bullet, loop hole in the law, smoking gun that exists that will prevent this from occuring, like anti-gun organizations lead people to believe. There is no magic technology that will save the day.
This nut job was intent on killing a large number of people and was going to accomplish his objective in one form or another. Given the intricate manner in which he had boobytrapped his apartment, do you really think that even if he had not been able to get any guns or ammunition, that he would not have found a way to still accomplish his objective?
just saying...
"truthofthematter, I have owned guns, and I have shot guns and I would like to see guns banned. Guns make it too easy to commit murders and crimes. They will always fall into the hands of either a nut-job or a criminal. I got rid of any guns when my children were born. I never felt safe with them after having children. Kids get killed by accident every day. That is really a tragedy I never wanted to have happen to my family."
Owning a car makes it to easy to kill people. Your point exactly? There are an estimated 200 million +++ guns in this country. The number of firearms that are used for homicides is almost a insignificant statistic when compared to how many exist. Let me ask you this, why when you owned firearms did you not go out an rob someone? If its so easy, why didn't you do it? Its because you had enough sense to know its not worth it, and the same goes for 99.99% of people that own guns. The gun doesn't make you do anything you don't want to.
There are two ways to deal with guns and kids. One is get rid of the guns, and shelter your kids from them, and the second is keep them, have secure storage, and raise them responsibly with firearms around. Children die accidentally due to parents negligence. Have you actually looked into the real numbers on how many children die in a year due to "playing with guns"? Yes it happens, yes its sad, but at the same time by far more children die by drowning in buckets then by negligent firearms handling. In my major city there have been over 20 known co-sleeping deaths of infants so far this year. Thats 20 more cases then kids killed by handling firearms negligently.
Heres the deal. The anti gun group says that the pro gun group is run on fear. They cling onto their guns because they are so afraid of the government and other people. Owning a gun for personal protection is not being paranoid. There are "real" people out there that want to harm people. There are sexual assaults, murders, beatings, robberies, etc, this happens every day all over the USA. Mass murders like it CO is further evidence that bad things can and will happen. So owning a firearm to help protect oneself is not being paranoid. Where the real fear lies is in the people who are completely against guns. They make things out to be much different then what they are. They make things sound scary, and say statements like "The only reason to own a AR-15 assault rifle is to kill other people". Naturally anyone who doesn't know about guns will hear that and likely believe it, especially in the wake of what this man in CO did with his. They say that "simple common sense laws would have likely saved those 12 people", which who wouldn't vote for a law if that was true? Its not, its a fallacy of the worst degree. The whole anti-gun movement was based solely on fear, because nobody in it had enough real experience with firearms or psychology to know any better. The only thing anti-gun people are experts on is statistics, and using appeal to emotions to get others to agree with them.
Even your choice to get rid of your firearms was based on fear inda. You were afraid that your child would get to your guns and either on pourpose or negligently kill themselves with one. The key to get past fear is education. You might have wanted to take some firearms training classes, and bought a secure storage device for the firearm. Firearms and children can saftely exist, millions of families do it. Then again if you don't feel safe around firearms I wouldn't expect you to have them, and in the same token I wouldn't expect you to feel they are to unsafe and dangerous for everyone else.
We need a whole new, government, in congress. If thay don't have the guts to stand for a free and peacfull america, get rid of them. Our congress is also to blame for the deaths in colorado. I wounder if thay can sleep, after seeing the face of the 6 year old girl, that was killed, in part because thay are not doing their jobs. remember, a new broom sweeps cleaner, then an old one. Lets clean the congressiomal houses clean, with out them there now, this country can once again become great.
I don't like whats going on in washington anymore then the next guy, but blaming them for what a man chose to do is an absolute insult to the people that were hurt and killed. One man chose to kill those people, and by saying its other peoples fault you might as well say what he did was right, and society was wrong. Blaming the person is an absolute, thats the end, your admitting you have no control over what happened. Blaming others and the tools he used is an attempt to hold onto control over what happened, and to keep a feeling of security. Its harder to admit nothing could have been done then it is to say "all this could have prevented it". The main difference between you and say a person like me, is that I see firearms, knives, bats, etc as a tool (which they are). They are neither good nor bad, its up to the users actions to determin what they are used for. Those actions make the person either good or bad, inanimate objects are exactly that, inanimate. Therefore they can't be assigned a "status" because they can't be held responsible.
So watch out for the kochroaches control and NRA....arm yourselves against them! Get some mace and a stungun. That works for me. One hand gun if some one tries to take my home if www gets elected in Nov. Until then, I'll take my chances.
We need guns to protect ourselves on 12/21/2012 because its the end of the world. So when the Devil comes a knock-en we can be a-rocken! I'm getting my Holy water for my squirt gun tomorrow!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=IZQwyV7wHzM#t=0s
Amen.....I"ll go and get one out of the vending machine.
Make sure to put some salt in the holy water, and aim for their eyes.
Got cut off xxx.....was going to say....I've been hearing those trumpets.
If it's the end of the world, forget guns and holy water, bring me a bottle of Jack Daniels! LOL
Let the trumpets sound. I'll be passed out. It's one of those thing I don't mind missing, like a Rod Stewart concert.
The End?

Seems to not be working...yet? The fed wouldn't support this.
TMom when where?
what the NRA activist are saying without saying it is.....6 year olds killed and many others killed is acceptable collateral damage for the right of the weapons industry to sell ammo and weapons to everyone in the USA.
remind you of another comment by someone that used chemicals to blow up innocent people?
collateral damage is collateral damage no matter who has the rights...........
The NRA is not the reason this nutjob killed 12 people.
You liberals, never let a horrible tragedy go to waste.
The liberal media hitched it's wagon to the Trayvon Martian tragedy, now it's this one they have hitched to and ride this gravy train till the next tragedy.
In the mean time the economy is grinding to a stop, obama has no clue what to do other than throw anyone with money under the tax bus.
He wants to spend more tax payers money on stupid ideas that will not put anyone to work in the private sector.
Right here we go again with typical tea bagged republican fake outrage. To bad for you that lie don't fly.
a cage has been rattled....ewwwww....shake shake.........GOP/teaers....where's the jobs......???????????
hey whom...what will their re regs be next month????????
See no evil hear no evil speak all evil.
Says the guy who wants to regulate womens vaginas.
No one is forcing women to take birth control or have abortions, funny how you just can't grasp the concept of women and their doctors deciding for them what is the right medical procedure to use. It is you tea bagged republicans that want to force women into carrying a fetus full term and deciding for women on if they should get pregnant or not without the womans consent.
time for some Romney catch up. anyone see the new Norquist pledge by the republicans?
seems the over the cliff has a new republican twist to it............
xxxooo, Have you been watching O'Donnell's take on "over the cliff"? I like his show a lot, especially last night when he refused to give Holmes any attention.
been watching India. the republicans have got themselves in a corner with the defense cuts comming. like O'Donnel says....the republicans will have to vote for and with the dems budget. Norquist is hot..................
hey india did ya like that supeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrrrrrrrr flip flop of Romney on abortion???????? let's see. Mass he's for it and Utah he's aginst it....hmmm....he shoulda ran in Utah but they don't want him either it seems..........
hey speaking of Mass....how's them dollars doin for Brown? maybe he needs some NRA endorsements????????
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2843121/postsz
Mormons and guns?
He's back, Romney on abortion made me dizzy!!! How many ways can this freak flip-flop?
Let me count the ways...LOL Did you hear he's going to Poland? I am married to a Pole, and that very Catholic country won't be feeding him perogies!
I can hear him now, "OOOhh, what are those little pieces of dough?" "Do you eat those?"
At least one of them will say, "Eat this!" LOL
India I did see that. One small step but the right one.
TM, a somewhat surprising chart:
http://www.aolnews.com/2010/03/01/opinion-the-rise-and-decline-of-mass-shootings/
Over 50 people die everyday in car crashes in this country.
Some nutcase flips out kills 12 people with a rifle, and the left is ready to rewrite the Constitution.
If he had made bomb out of gasoline & tide soap, kills 12 people and burns the place to the ground.
What then? out law soap & gas?
Wrong again but why let truth get in the way of you fake outrage. See that is all you tea bagged republicans have fake outrage. Again with the nonsense reply based on delusions.
amendments anyone? oh yea that's not constitutional if your a right wing nut....spin spin spin.............zip zip zip
Hey, panhead, got any new stuff to post. We are really tired of seeing you post the same old spam.
http://kalexjam.newsvine.com/_news/2012/07/24/12918035-is-obama-taking-black-vote-for-granted-cnncom?threadId=3525827&commentId=68262886#c68262886
2009 35,900 deaths in the USA in fatal car wrecks.
Now 35,900/365= 108.219.
So 108 people died everyday of the week in 2009 in car crashes.
cdc.gov
If you do not believe those facts take it up with the CDC that is where I got them from.

See you are spamming the same old stuff again!
I see you never took logic in college, Ho.
There have been absolutely no "original thoughts" posted by the liberals on this site - never are... They just rehash the same old name-calling of the NRA, conservatives, etc. The truth is that the locations with the strictest gun laws suffer the most violent crime, because criminals know their victims are not likely to be armed. Fact.
More people are killed by cars every day - just this weekend 14 illegal immigrants were killed in a single truck wreck in Goliad, TX - 14 out of the 23 illegals in the truck. Where is the outrage by liberals over the improper methods to transport illegals?
Gun ownership has been a fact of life in America (before there was a USA) for over 500 years - that is part of the reason we are a free people, and why we will remain a free people.
God Bless America!
Always think you are smarter than everyone else, and you have no "original thoughts" and stupid arguments about cars.....trying to change the subject much?
Of course the manner you just approached is less place the blame on subjects that have nothing to do with the conversation. No one wants to take any ones guns. Many own them....they don't buy big guns that are designed to kill a lot of people.
Give us some real information that every one does not already know and we all God bless America.
well at least I haven't re regged in a hurry to get back here to read all that liberal stuff...........God bless America and freedom of thought and liberal ideas.....
Not a re-reg.....just comes to expond on how bright he thinks he is, now and then. Seen him many times before. Same old stuff. Thinks he is special. How could he be he swings to the right?

well no offense to Texans but................
One reason I left that state, I'm sorry I had to leave my relatives there.
yep the Texans want to seperate from the union but not them defense dollars. seems they tried that funny southern money before and got no where.
anyways....have relatives and some real good buddies there. I tell them I don't hold it against them so long as they promote the USA and not the CSA......
Left after Ann, couldn't stand the take over of morons.
I put up with gw there, then what happened.....I couldn't escape the moron. He stole acouple more elections.
www may be just one shelf higher than perry, so I guess we should be thankful we don't have tricky ricky to deal with. ROTFFL
ohhhhhhhhhh man my ribs TM................time out I can't see....my eyes are waterin...........oh my ribs.............
It will bring you to tears if you think about it! LOL.....maybe the libs will rise up this year if all their gerrymandering hasn't hurt the vote. Maybe they can take their state back. We all know who Sam Huston stole it from with the help of Davy.
TM....you can bet it will hurt some voters but not all the voters. I got faith in the common American....the little guys and gals that make this country what it is. the right can bully and scream save the republic but when it comes right down to it....it's the little guys that make the USA what we knew it to be when growing up.
my neighbors and I don't agree on alot of things but I'll tell ya that we all agree we are tired of this bullying. tired of my way or the highway attitude of the right.
congress is at an all time low regards favor of the people. everyone I know is sick of it..........repub and dems and indys.
My republican friends are the same way.....they will not even discuss romney and they are usually so vocal. I think they are not going to vote for him. or his republican counter parts. I think that they want their benefits, and they are tired of the republicans holding the ax over their heads.
Never let a good crisis go to waste......
Oklahoma 168 killed. 19 children under the age of 6. 680 injured. Not one bullet shot.
Should I mention Oslo? Only one person had a gun and he killed them like sitting ducks. 69 killed and 55 seriously injured. Not one person had a gun until the killer arrived. I think he fired around 186 rounds total.
Do I think we need 300 round clips? No, I don't think so.
Mass Mind Control

Are Your Thoughts Your Own?
http://rense.com/general69/mass.htm
hey six....enjoyed you and others discussions on the subject on an earlier discussion of the same. shows that we can all get along.
Mass mind control........not if you keep commin to Ed's blog...........
Well, your here. Are you thoughts your own. Mine are. Just because I come to this vine to seek out people that think like I do. Does not mean the media controls it. They say a lot of things I don't always agree with, but they have much sane thinking than fake noise, who does not allow anyone to think.
you got it TM....how can anyone stand to listen to Rush? yet that's not trying to control a theme of thought....give me a break....how about Beck? media control? how about Murdoch's problems who owns fox that his people were in the bizz of thought media..........?

Little off topic
I say Holmes was not insane as he dyed his hair planned it out meticulously. And when he entered now one gave him the trill of fear of him. And to get things going he took his first shot at the ceiling. He was a terrorist and a weird one.
I did three tours in Vietnam and seen enough killing and wounded to last a life time. My close friend was killed while home on military leave after serving a tour in Vietnam was killed by accident because a fool was shooting at someone. This occurs in his own home country after putting his life on the line for others. My only hope is some politicians will get enough balls to say enough is enough, hell with satisfying NRA or others money makers and do my job what elected to do, pass policies to protect American people. We do not need semi-automatic or 35 clips magazine, hand grenades or other lethal weapons on our streets. The use of the 2nd Amendment is “the right to bear arms” is a crutch, I’m sure our fore-fathers didn’t take in consideration during the time of writing the constitution that we would currently have semi-automatic weapons and not muskets which was the primary weapon.
IMO, the Framers did their part to frame and provide for future additions/subtraction to the Constitution as determined by the peoples representatives in State and Federal Houses Of Congress.
What the Founders and convened First Congress could not predict is that our modern Congresses would sell themselves like "sex-kittens" of the Republic to non-governmental special interests groups (NRA, Grover Norquist, and so many others known and not known interest groups). For all intents and purposes, our modern Congresses took money from these groups-and actually, Congress is "owned". Consequently, the special interests groups are right to say "jump" and senators, representatives. yes even Presidents say: "How high?"
