The 112th Congress is "the single most despised Congress of all time," as Ezra Klein put it on The Rachel Maddow Show. But not only is Congress unpopular, over the last year its public approval rating has slipped to lower than that of the BP oil spill, Paris Hilton, and even Communism, at times.
Sen. Michael Bennet (D-CO) put together a chart, which he showed during a floor speech, that compared the approval rating of Congress at an all-time low of 9% last fall with other unpopular people and concepts in American history. Congress proved to be more popular than only Fidel Castro, who came in at 5%. It was tied with Hugo Chavez.
Klein, guest-hosting for Maddow also pointed out that in addition to being so dramatically unpopular, Congress is also on track to be the least productive since at least 1947.
Gallup reported that the public's approval of Congress had risen to 17% by June, which is still down significantly from a high of 39% in March 2009 (its highest rating since February 2005).

Yes, the Congress is very unpopular, but it is also true that the embargoes against Cuba are no longer popular. Let's end the outdated Cold War restrictions against Cuba and boot out the unreasonable folks in Congress who cannot or will not work for the betterment of the nation.
Absolutly Kelly. Besides, I love cuban cigars.
We should have lifted the trade embargo against Cuba years ago. We also can shut down Guantanamo bay prison. We can have the trials for any terrorists in a federal maximum security prison where the court room is right inside the prison. Then after we close Guantanamo prison we should hand back the whole base itself to the Cuban government. Guantanamo was originally a coaling station for battleships transitioning from the Atlantic or Pacific. Battleships burned oil after the WW I because coal was a poor fuel for modern naval warfare. The U.S. Navy has not built any new battleships nor used them in any large numbers since WW II. Yet here we are a century later and we still hang onto Guantanamo bay. We still have an embargo against Cuba even though Fidel Castro removed his troops from Africa when the Soviet Union collapsed 20 years ago.
Congress is not ending things that should have been ended nor is it doing enough of the things it should be doing. The GOP House failed to pass the American Jobs Act would have created or saved 2 million jobs The Senate GOP filibustered the lsmall business tax credit bill that would have created at least one million jobs. Three million jobs saved or created would give us an unemployment rate of under 7%. Maybe it will be time for a Cuban cigar when Democrats take over the Congress and President Obama get reelected.
I voted Sunday and it was tough. I spent hours investigating and digging. I did not vote for even one encumbent.
Whopee!
Congress is more popular than the dictator that tried to nuke us!!!
This is like getting a 5% on a true-false test.
First you must study very hard so you know the correct answer for every question.
Then you must answer every single one incorrectly on purpose.
5% is the standard error rate for the average human being, so this is like a perfect 0.
