Mitt Romney says he isn't worried about being called a wimp.
The Republican presidential candidate told CBS' Jan Crawford on Sunday that he hasn't seen Newsweek's cover, which features a photo of him next to the headline, "The Wimp Factor: Is He Just Too Insecure to Be President?" But he shrugged off the criticism.
"They tried that on George Herbert Walker Bush," said Romney, referring to a 1987 Newsweek cover titled "George Bush: Fighting the 'Wimp Factor.'"
"He was a pretty great president and anything but [a wimp]," said Romney.
When Crawford asked Romney if he was concerned about the "wimp" narrative, Romney replied, "If I worried about what the media said, I wouldn't get much sleep. And I'm able to sleep pretty well." He acknowledged he had never been called a wimp before.
The Newsweek issue hits the stands on Monday and comes after a gaffe-filled week for Romney, in which he suggested London might not be prepared for the Olympics and publicly revealed he had met with the country's highly secretive M16 intelligence agency.
Democratic National Committee Chair Debbie Wasserman-Schultz was asked on Face the Nation if she thought Romney was a wimp. Romney, she said has demonstrated "he has a penchant for secrecy, has no interest in showing his finances ... and refuses to come clean on Bain."

He said he hadn't seen the Newsweek cover, but he seemed well prepared to point out that the term "wimp factor" had been used by Newsweek regarding Bush the First.
So, it seems, for once his campaign staff did an adequate job preparing him for an interview. After the repeated muffs in London, maybe someone got fired and someone else with a little more PR smarts got promoted.
He's not a wimp. He's just Artificial Intelligence.
Romney needs to quit, drop out the race. I hate to say, he is a wimp very out of touch. He's more comfortable at home with his own, not on the world stage.
I actually thought "twit" was a more apt description of Romney than "wimp".
Dave in Austin, Artificial, yes. Intelligent, no.
I can think of numerous adjectives to describe Romney; intelligent is not one of them.
Wimp is pretty fair. The only time Romney has ever said a word that he thought the crowd didn't want to hear, was at the NAACP, pretty much the other 99.999% of the time Romney says what he thinks the crowd wants to hear.
He's an insecure child that is always afraid of rejection and of disappointing the people around him. He is a wimp because he is not man enough to stand by his convictions, if he has any...he flip flops then denies he ever said something he obviously said on video compulsively, he is a man that is not comfortable in his own skin, in part, this may be because he belongs to the Mormon church, established in upstate New York 150 years ago. The craziness of this faith makes him further insecure--- or the notion that they believe heaven is a physical place in space and that native americans are a lost tribe of Israel -- or that blacks bear the mark of cain, or that you can convert the dead to mormonism, such as Anne Frank, Popes, and past presidents.
I cannot understand anyone even thinking of voting for this person, he has embarrassed us overseas and now we have to apologize for his ignorance and bad manners.
Can he get any worse ?
OH yeah it can.
