Former President Bill Clinton will rally the Democratic faithful for President Barack Obama's re-election during a prime-time speaking slot at the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, N.C., in September. He is expected to speak Wednesday, Sept. 5.
The popular Clinton, who has served as a supporter and surrogate for the Obama campaign since his wife Hillary conceded to Obama in the 2008 Democratic primary, is known for his ability to connect to voters. As Mike Barnicle said on Morning Joe this morning: The Obama campaign realized "they need the big guy."
The New York Times, which reported the news first, noted the relationship between Obama and Mr. Clinton has not always been perfect.
The invitation for Mr. Clinton to be center stage at the convention signifies another milestone in the complicated and evolving relationship between the two presidents.
At the party’s convention in Denver four years ago, all eyes were on Mr. Clinton as he offered a full-throated endorsement of Mr. Obama in a speech that served as something of a truce after a contentious primary fight with his wife.
For Mr. Clinton, who has become one of the most popular figures in the Democratic Party, the speech will be among the most high-profile roles yet that he has assumed for Mr. Obama. The address is intended to offer a strong contrast with the Republican ticket and will be closely watched, particularly given a string of blunt statements — and retractions — that Mr. Clinton has made this year when talking about the Obama administration.

No doubt words for Mr. Clinton fits the Bill! Hee hee! I'm sure that his power to contact with the people will have an immediate impact on poll numbers. He has a wonderful way of getting points across and at the same time gracefully ripping apart the oppositions talking points. I guess that's why the call him the BIG GUY! The republicans on the other hand have no one who can stir up people like him. GO BILL!
The republicans are rolling their eyes and saying to them selves, "WHAT HAVE WE DONE" every time mitt opens his mouth. Their convention is going to be dull. We will have some great STARS......just look at the liberal line up!
Willard's VP moonwalking mate has to less charisma then him, So they don't steal the show! Or if they do maybe Willard will have to bow out and hand over the reins! Never happen though Willard actually thinks some people will vote for him. Word is many don't like him and will vote for anyone else that comes along. In short they can't stand him!
Romney will have the usual, all white Republican convention.
You think? Maybe they will serve cookies and those what-so-may-call-its......donuts?
White, powdered donuts.
From 7-11.
Yep. the democrats will go to the convention with their best Black President- Bill Clinton- and the other guy that is running against Mitt and George and Barack's record.
Heard where Dickless Cheney said he'd rather go fishing than make an appearance at the Republican Nutcase Convention. I mean how bad is that when your own previous vice liar and murderer in chief won't even support his own party, and with good reason. Now do you teabaggers finally understand what a POS he was? Along with his puppet of course.
Tex- it has often been said that the separation of those who think and have ideas, and those who don't- can often be shown their propoensity to curse and call names. Guess which above group uses curses and names as substitutes for ideas and thinking?
repubs think their "big guy", chris christie stirs people up just fine.
of course he isn't on par with ronald reagan, the DEAD Leader of the repub party.
question: how many times will the name "ronald reagan" be mentioned during the repub convention?
answer: more times than mitt romney is mentioned, and by that time romney will be the nominee.
Ha Haaa = chis christie -- Just WHO Does the guy think that he Is = Al Capone ??? He Is Such a wonderful American - that He Wants to SILENCE Any American of Their Freedom of Speech that Apposes Him - But He can Say and Do Whatever He Wants ---- In Short he IS A Dictator !!!!!!
I love it when he thinks he is smarted than a fifth grader and his vile temper targets someone who does not agree with him. He has no decorum. Let them roll him out as part of the entertainment. We will just be laughing at all the gaffs that will be revealed at the republican 3 ring circus. ROTFFL. Just can wait!
They'll have to roll him out sideways.
Should be interesting. I think he will do a great job. He is a Politician's politician..
Bill Clinton connecting with what People? That's a bad joke! I'm still trying to understand how blue collar workers benefitted from NAFTA, When Clinton signed that bill, under educated Americans lost jobs, These were the same people who were not college material because of their social economics, Even the ones with low IQ's who worked in the same plants as their fathers & Uncles, We saw an influx in illegals being shipped into this country also, Yes He connected with the People just like David Copperfeld, However We know Mr. Copperfeld is an entertainer, Not a former President.
I think Clinton was actually a good President. In his terms, he was able to get NAFTA through, reduce capital gains taxes, reform welfare by limiting the amount of time a person could get benefits, opened trade with China and some other very positive events. He opened up the possibility of the oil sands in Canada, and increased Coal mining production.
Morally- he was a nightmare- but economically- he did good. He did raise income taxes- but he did it without invoking class warfare- an across the board increase with everybody paying up- and as above- the recognition that capital gains income was different than earned income.
The class warfare..lol..argument was brought up by the teabaggers, it was their only defense against being asked to pay their fair share. For some reason they though the Dems were out to take their gods, you know, Washington, Lincoln, Hamilton and Jefferson.
Yep Tex- it's called substance. Your goofy plan doesn't really raise any revenues. Clinton's plan- across the board increase, did raise tons of revenue. If you recall, which I doubt you can, Bush I raised taxes in a record amount (remember the Democrats campaign- read my lips- no new taxes")- then after Clinton got elected, he raised taxes by another record amount (both records in terms of revenue increased). Your guy wants to rais ethem on such a slim portion of the population that it brings in a very small percent- even if he stops losing wealthy citizens.
