MSNBC, The Rachel Maddow Show
In the past two years, nine states have passed laws radically restricting abortions—even in the case of rape and incest. Using data from the Guttmacher institute, the staff of The Rachel Maddow Show assembled the above map for Monday's episode. It shows that Idaho, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, Indiana and Alabama have new abortion restrictions in effect. Arizona, Louisiana and Georgia have laws that have been enacted and have yet to go into effect.
On Monday, a legal challenge against Arizona's law—which bans abortions occurring after the first 20 weeks—failed. On Tuesday, the House will vote on whether to institute a similar law in Washington, DC.
Rachel Maddow noted that Mitt Romney has been evasive on the subject of abortion, changing his position depending on the audience. "Do you agree with these new laws being advanced by your party, or do you disagree with them?" she asked, addressing the camera. "Easy question."

i don't believe in abortion at all, there are places that adopt kids, there are alot of folks that cant have children. in my eyes what's the difference if the child was born & you left it in a dumpster & the baby dies, abortion is murder in my eyes, just cause it's legal in some states, doesn't mean it isn't.
Well, John, isn't it lucky that you, as a man, can never be raped and get pregnant as a result. It is very convenient to be against abortion when it really doesn't personally affect you.
John, I can respect your opinion, and, I want to reduce the number of abortions to the lowest number possible. The point of the legislation does not address the problem that a person can have, if they are unable, or abhorred, with the prospect for a birth of a child. These situations have always existed, and, in my opinion, it is up to each woman to decide whether or not she wants to deliver that child. The government is not trying to be rational, and seek a reasonable solution, for these women, they are waging a war against women - pure and simple. If our legislators had a sincere interest in these unborn, they would be including a secure safety-net for newborns, up through adolesence.
Fred & Laura.....The difference between you and I is that you see the pregnancy as part of the woman and I see it as it's own person. Having an abortion to you is justifiable in some cases, but if it is truly its own person, then how can pro life individuals support any form of exterminating an innocent person?
Well the truth is there are hundreds of foster care programs over filling with children who need adopted and very little funds to do it and often in the states where abortion is illegal they also do what they can to stop same sex marriage probably one of the bigger pools of people who would like to adopt and once again then come abstinence is the only acceptable form of birth control in a majority of the states shown. So it seems that in the case of INCEST or RAPE or an illness where it can kill the mother maybe some exceptions should be made
Just because you believe it's murder does not make it actually so. It means YOU believe it's so......And John, some women who are raped have their breasts slashed or their hands cut off etc, by these rapists. Some are raped by large groups of men. Do you really think these women should be forced to carry a child under these circumstances?!
Lynn.......If he thinks the child is an actual person, then yes they should care the child. There was a time when people didn't see slaves as people either. Eventually I hope we progress to see the unborn as living creatures as well.
Yes, next the Republicans will be pushing for punishing the victim for allowing herself to be raped or molested. Biblical Principals do lean toward this. Women in the Bible are generally ascribed to chattel ...or a bit lower.
next Republicans will be pushing for OTHER BIBLICAL PRINCIPALS like punishing the victim for NOT protesting loudly or strongly enough.... a woman is to be stoned if she is raped and does not protest loud enough.... BIBLICAL PRINCIPALS.
