As Sandra Fluke reminded us yesterday, Wednesday is a great day for American women. That's because it's the day that a provision of President Obama's health care law giving women access to free preventive care, including birth control, goes into effect.
Judging from the response on Twitter to Sandra's column, a lot of people are pretty psyched about that. But not Rep. Mike Kelly. in fact, the Pennsylvania Republican thinks this is a pretty dark day in American history.
Just how dark? Said Kelly at a Capitol Hill press conference:
I know in your mind you can think of times when America was attacked. One is December 7th, that's Pearl Harbor day. The other is September 11th, and that's the day of the terrorist attack. I want you to remember August the 1st, 2012, the attack on our religious freedom. That is a day that will live in infamy, along with those other dates.
Yup, you read that right.
Remember, by the way, that after an outcry from conservatives, the Obama administration agreed not to require employers to offer birth control coverage if they felt doing so violated their religious beliefs. Instead, insurers will be required to offer coverage to women who want it. So the "attack on our religious freedom" never really panned out.
Just more evidence that the War on Women is all totally imaginary, of course.

The state of Pennsylvania is in a deplorable condition -- openly altering the body of law to favor a candidate for election, and just as openly insulting, degrading, and marginalizing an entire cross-section of society -- HEROES of two great challenges to our nation -- by equating them and their trials with a philosophical disagreement! Rep. Kelly should be PUBLICLY CENSURED for his gutter-politics posturing.
Maybe the problem with our politics is that too many feel that they have to out-inane everybody, just to be heard. Maybe our media needs to concentrate on the words of the more reasonable, and intelligent, politicians. After all, Rep Mike Kelly isn't the only politician that has made pathetically dumb remarks, lately. Who knows, maybe he actually said something smart, somewhere - it can happen! His problem is that now we will never know, because America heard this totally, stupid, comment - loud and clear. Shame.
what an ASS WIPE. Will these mean and hateful men ever get a clue? DO THEY NOT REALIZE THEY ARE MARRIED TO THE SAME WOMEN THAT THEY WANT TO CUT OFF? COME YOU SICK BASTRADS GET OVER THIS AND FIX OUR ECONOMY!!!!!!!!!!!
It's a fact that Prostitutes and Sluts use Birth-control like Abortion, contraceptives, etc at Planned Parenthood for nothing. Now we can't call them these names again, so we will refer to them as True Camp Followers of the Liberal Demorats like Sebelius, Jared, Huchal and Flukie are. Go get them RUSH,
