Rev. Jesse Jackson appeared on The Ed Show with guest host Michael Eric Dyson Thursday night to discuss the Aurora shooting and stress the need for gun control.
At the end of the segment, Dyson asked Jackson for an update on his son, the Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr., the Illinois Democrat who is being treated at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota for depression and gastrointestinal issues.
"Well, the revelation by the Mayo finding some form of depression may be connected to the intestinal surgery, but that's not conclusive," Jackson said. "All we can say is that he's under the best of medical supervision. He's resting to regain his strength, and the prayers of the many are appreciated by family and him, and his family very much."

One comment we should consider about events in Aurora, Colorado's recent massacre is one of national security. Rev. Jesse Jackson made this point about allowing semiautomatics with large capacity ammunition clips that can fire 100 rounds in a minute. We need to understand that a terrorist group could get a few English speaking recruits into our country by the Visa process or by smuggling them into the country. This was done for the al Qaida 9-11 terrorists. An organization could set up a safe house, take money and purchase legally guns in our own country, such as AR-15's or AK-47's or Glock 9mm pistols with many thousands of rounds of ammunition. Assuming this was a suicide mission, six or even a dozen men could be armed with a thousand rounds each. They could then pick a target date that would have a large public event or a busy business center in a major city and simply kill hundreds of Americans and wounding many hundreds more before they could be hunted down by SWAT teams or perhaps the Guard would have to be called out.
This happened in Mumbai recently with terrorists from Pakistan where India suffered about 500 casualties from six gunman. Its really a matter of national security to keep these types of high capacity ammunition clips and semiautomatic weapons out of civilian's hands. The NRA is full of fraudulent claims about the rights of individuals to own assault weapons. Assault weapons are weapons for terrorists, gangsters, or soldiers at war. Why we want to help a possible terrorist attack on our own people by allowing these semiautomatic weapons, large ammunition sales, and high capacity ammunition clips to be sold legally is incomprehensible. Many police chiefs and law enforcement people are quietly asking for the assault weapons ban with a prohibition of these high capacity ammunition clips be reinstated. The sooner this happens the better. National security trumps the NRA everyday.
