Gabby Douglas may have won the U.S. two gold medals in London this year, but according to Fox News, she didn't display the proper amount of patriotism.
The proof: Hot pink leotards, instead of red white and blue.
"Gabby had that great moment and everybody's so excited, and she's in hot pink and that's her prerogative" said Fox News' Alisyn Camerota.
"Yeah, who cares if Gabby Douglas made history?" shot back MSNBC's Al Sharpton on Monday's PoliticsNation. "She wore pink! Pink!"
In addition to helping her team win the team's first gold medal since 1996, 16-year-old Douglas is also the first African-American to win the prestigious artistic gymnastics women's individual all-around gold medal. President Obama even phoned Douglas to congratulate her on her wins.
The 16-year-old gymnast has already been criticized for her supposedly unkempt hair, which she ties back in a bun with clips. When asked about her 'do, Douglas responded: "What’s wrong with my hair? I’m like, ‘I just made history and people are focused on my hair?’ It can be bald or short, it doesn’t matter about [my] hair. Nothing is going to change. I’m going to wear my hair like this during beam and bar finals. You might as well just stop talking about it."

It is idiotic to complain that Gabby isn't patriotic enough because of the color of her uniform. What flag flew after she won her medals? That tells you all you need to know. Some people will find any reason to complain. Rather, they should say "Thank You!" to Gabby and the rest of the team and support staff for representing the US well. Gabby, you and your teammates have my heart-felt thanks.
Considering all of the obstacles and massively hard work, that Gabby, and all of the athletes, gave, just to make it to London, any petty point, by a commentator, is nothing but showing the stupidity of that expressed opinion. NBC has shown us all, what fantastic people, all of these Olympians are, and, the least that they deserve, is our respect. Thank you for bringing this sad insult to light, Politics/Nation!
History judge a nation by 3 things - how it treats women, children and the elderly. Right now, the USA isn't doing to good on its treatment of children. This whole Twitter thing about Gabby's hair started with a few jealous tweeters who couldn't stomach Gabby leading Team USA to the olympics.
"Pull up!"
Someone please tell Gabby and her mom to not respond to foolishness on the internet. What's being said in cyberspace is virtual - winning GOLD is real. Never the twain my friends.
Most of the negative stuff is from "wanna-bees," "has been" and "washed-up" people who are not doing anything with their life - and want to bring others down to their misery.
Gabby, don't let people's poor self-esteem get to you! They're good people, they just need better coaching...!
Gabby, you are the BOMB! You have won 2 Gold Medals and you are only 16 years old! You have made your Mom proud, coach proud, teammates proud and America proud!!! Nevermind what anyone else says about hair, color of your uniform, or anything else. You are a super Olympian and represented U.S.A. well!!
The WHOLE TEAM wore pink for the love!!!! Don't we have anything better to say to these women; like GREAT JOB!!!! Thank you for representing us so well! Thank you, Gabby! You were so beautiful and graceful!
YOU GO GABBY! your hair is lovely and so is your smile and The Gold. It is evident that more work went into your Medaling than the time it takes for people to find fault. Stay Strong! We will watch for Gabby Douglas in future Olympics. You have no where to go but Up. God loves you.
The English language does not contain enough, or sufficiently offensive, profanity to describe Fox News. Arabic is known for it, I'm told, but they may fall short, too.....
Fox News is just showing just how low they can possibly go. W O W
Leave this poor beautiful child of God alone, for Heaven's sake! Gabby has made America proud with her nothing-less-than outstanding and electrifying performances. Her hair is beautiful and so is she. U go Gabby!!! And thank you for representing our nation admirably in this year's Olympics. As an Army Veteran, I salute U!
Sounds like Fox news is racist.
FOX and Rupert Murdoch could learn a few things! Gabby has made America proud with her nothing-less-than outstanding and electrifying performances. America is a great nation in-spite of Rupert Murdoch phone hacking in America!
"Gabby ahd the great moment and everybody's so excited, and she's in hot pink and that's her prerogative" Said Fox news' Alisyn Camerota.
Nothing was said about her not being patrotic enough. At least talk about what was said and not spin it. I watch alot of news on all chanels, but may turn to only Fox news, because they do seem to keep it real.
The fact that you actually believe that Fox News keeps it "real" says enough about you. So, with the understanding of the kind of person that I am dealing with here, I will keep my comments brief (so as to not confuse you)...
There is such a thing as an inference - something that is not said, but intended. There would have been no reason to make the comment about the color that she was wearing if there was not the accompanying inference that said color was somehow inappropriate...you with me?...Ok, so since it is the Olympics, and she won as a player for the U.S.A., it is logical to assume that the comment about the color of her uniform (non-red, white, and/or blue) was meant to infer that she was somehow less than patriotic.
I'm confused. It doesn't sound at all like their criticizing her. If anything, it sounds from the story like Fox was excited and MSNBC Al Sharpton was critical: I'm not seeing how "and she's wearing pink!" sounds critical. Read again. Was this a misprint? And I'm the LAST to defend FOX News...
Pink!"
@Brian TC... It's called sarcasm!I think the correct meaning of both comments was not based on the actual words used, but the delivery thereof.
Fox news will say anything about the minority in this country, Gabby uniform is America made not made in china. Fox, say something that is important to American people not this little girl gymnastic uniform, what a shame!! why not call for Romney to come clean?
