The NETWORK nuns—affectionately known to many as the "Nuns on the Bus"—have been touring the country to protest the massive cuts in poverty programs in Paul Ryan's budget plan. And now they've set their sights on an even bigger target: Mitt Romney.
On The Ed Show Thursday, Executive Director Simone Campbell responded to Romney's latest attack on President Obama over welfare programs by extending an invitation to the GOP candidate to join the nuns' nine-state bus tour, which has been visiting social service organizations and low-income families who would be harmed by Ryan's proposed cuts.
Campbell said she believes Romney, who backs the Ryan plan, "has no idea how hard it is to keep a family together when you're on low income," and added that she'd like him to "meet some of the people who depend on the programs."
"He's making gross generalizations," Campbell continued, referring to Romney's attack ad, which falsely accuses Obama of removing the work requirement from welfare. "We would like to introduce him to the reality of our nation."
Earlier today, Campbell tweeted, of Romney "He only knows the top 1%!"
Of the increasing conservative demand for Romney to select Ryan as his running mate, Campbell said: "If [Ryan] is on the ticket, I think it would indicate a strong preference for those at the top ... that's a very scary thought."
Asked by Ed Schultz whether she thinks Romney will accept the invitation, Campbell replied: "I sincerely hope that he will."

I adore great nuns. They make up for all of the foolishness that we find in the male hierarchy of institutions and humanity. They always were the only ones who could get men to sit up straight, and behave.

News flash Righty - every President their first term is "on the job training". The governing of one state is very different than governing for the United States and at the same time dealing with World Leaders and balancing diplomacy. No one knows how much or how complicated the job is until they are in the position, that is why promises are made as candidates that when they become President they realize the difficulty of delivering those promises. You know a Republican Party that says No to everything and has set a record for the number of filibusters. But hey, they are only concerned with Women's Reproductive Rights - not Jobs Jobs Jobs.
let the 1% vote for romney.... Obama will get the rest of the votes. americans know better. ( i hope). at this point in time, i guess the more intelligent among the voters already know whom to choose in nov. to be their leader and i am pretty sure that they are choosing the right one.

Your statement " Obama wants to tax the 1% to death" indicates that you have a very different idea of "death" than I do.
Raising the taxes on the 1% so that they pay a slightly higher percentage than they currently are is not DEATH!!

The nuns are trying to help Romney (and others) see the errors in their thinking. It's what they do.
Catholics are obligated to help the poor and disenfranchised people of the world. It's what we do.
well said Karen. I have a hard time when the religious right claims to follow Christ. Christ was compassionate. The religious right is compassionate ONLY if it benefits THEIR POINT OF VIEW! Except now they have twisted the views of Christ and hide behind the church saying it is the way God wants it because they interpret the bible to their views ONLY.

Nuns have been an important part of my life. I have learned a lot from them. They are on the front line dealing with the social justice issues of the poor and disenfranchised. Why would we want them to take time away from their life's work to get involved in political nonsense? I am with you. Keep driving that bus.
I hope they take their message to the GOP convention in Florida. I bet they would be met with an enthusiastic welcome by their supporters.
They would be welcome to the Democratic Convention.
As long as they leave their swiss army knives, string, and squirt guns at home. Those are dangerious and will not be allowed in. You broing any guns you want though to the convention center because unlike string and squirt guns they rare harmless.

Cabe mencionar el hecho de gracias a las previas reglas establecidas al sistema de recaudacion de impuestos por administraciones anteriores, le permiten quedarse "legalmente" con mas del 95% de sus ganancias, mientras que los demas tenemos que pagar de 20 a 25% de nuestras pocas ganancias.
