Even before Mitt Romney announced he was picking Rep. Paul Ryan as his running mate, President Obama's campaign had been trying to make the election into a choice between "two fundamentally different visions" for the country. Romney's vision, Obama has been arguing, means a country in which everyone looks out for themselves, the rich get richer while working Americans suffer, and we avoid making the kind of forward-looking investments in things like education, infrastructure, and innovation that are needed to win the future.
Romney's decision to pick Ryan (you can watch the formal announcement above) means that argument is even easier to make. Check out this statement that just went out from Jim Messina, the Obama campaign manager:
In naming Congressman Paul Ryan, Mitt Romney has chosen a leader of the House Republicans who shares his commitment to the flawed theory that new budget-busting tax cuts for the wealthy, while placing greater burdens on the middle class and seniors, will somehow deliver a stronger economy. The architect of the radical Republican House budget, Ryan, like Romney, proposed an additional $250,000 tax cut for millionaires, and deep cuts in education from Head Start to college aid. His plan also would end Medicare as we know it by turning it into a voucher system, shifting thousands of dollars in health care costs to seniors. As a member of Congress, Ryan rubber-stamped the reckless Bush economic policies that exploded our deficit and crashed our economy. Now the Romney-Ryan ticket would take us back by repeating the same, catastrophic mistakes.
Little wonder Democrats are said to be high-fiving over the choice.

I got a good chuckle from it all. Thanks Mittens!
Obama/Biden 2012!
@ Canadian Liberty I'm happy to report that panic hasn't broken out here in the states. From all I can tell the dems and progressives are walking about confident that the most Americans will not put the needs of the Koch's and Adeleson's ahead of their own. We understand whose interests Romney and Ryan truly have at heart.
Damn, I would love to be a fly on the wall at those republican billionaires' campaign strategy sessions! I guess I will have to make do and go hang out at the conservative blogs (spying).
*Big eyes*seeing*everything*repubs*write*.
let the games begin
Obama will win it again Mitt stop running no one wants you
Free at Last, Free at Last, we will have a Catholic Christian in the White Hast!!
A note for you Pro-Choicers and GAYS, American Rights come from Nature and God, not Government!! What a Proclamation of Devotion. It will be R & R time from here on in America. Free at Last from the yoke of Reparations. Go'in back Home, you know with Hopelessness and No-Change. Our Day has arrived, bless it be God!! Thank you Mister Romey.
Really?! Now how is it that America gets to have its rights from nature and god? What exactly does that (pryan) remark mean anyway?
A note for you bigot: This election will be about making YOU mind your own freedoms not other peoples'. Take that to the bank!
You're crazy. I believe in God, too, but If you get your rights from God, then how come he won't come down from heaven and prosecute somebody for committing a crime against you? Or send troops to fight for you?
Nutcase.
Romney + Ryan = The Two Protuberances.
I cannot resist! Has Romney pulled another "palin" out of the republican hat?
On one hand you got MRomney who thinks he is "Mr. Fix-It" who can only come onboard any project as Lead. Add PRyan, the "Specialist", you get two pompous...protuberances.
This tale of the tape will be either interesting or bizarre. One thing for sure: PRyan has entered the national lexicon.
No, dear. We're voting for President, not for church leader. You worship in your church, and stay out of my business. If you are anti-choice, anti-gay, then you get to live your life your way, but you don't get to take freedom away from others. It's so simple. Don't have an abortion. Don't marry a gay person, and mind your business. But you will stay out of my private parts, and you won't get RomneyRyan, because Americans like America, and you all who are constantly getting your church confused with my country have unleashed some huge energy from Democrats I don't think you're prepared to take on.
Like minds think alike!
Couldn't have said it better myself, Skippy. And where on earth did this "American Rights come from God and Nature, not the Government" come from. Our rights come from the Constitution (certain inalienable rights, as I recall), not from some bible thumping bunch of "Christian" (in name only) zealots.
Hey Cathy--Maybe you should read the Declaration of Independence. You would be enlightened.
Kurt, we know the words "nature" and "god" comes from the Declaration of Independence. Cathy, asked about what "not the government" is PRyan alluding to?
Why in the hell is a 2012 vice presidential campaign quoting phrases from the revolutionary era (independence from a king/tryanny form of government) in a political selection speech? That's is not patriotism-that's an insult to all American people. I understand the verbal deception! I am upset that PRyan (MRomney) never cease piling the rhetoric on for weak-minded people who do not know they are being emotional manipulated to act.
Someone doesn't know what a Declaration of Independence is. Well heres some help, it is a Declaration saying you no longer want to be a colony of the king and you decided that it is in your own interests to become a sovereign nation independent of the empire. That was all the Declaration was, a letter of intent to form your own nation. It was sent to King George and that was the end of its purpose outside of being a historic document.
Yes, Whom'.
What separation from government is today's America seeking? PRyan asserts this idea in his speech! The implication being, that President Obama is that which voters must seek independence from.
Paul Ryan rips the two words (nature, god) out of context of the declaration. Much like some often do with biblical scripture: A sentence out of context is a pretext.
A pretext where you can ascribe any meaning you wish. A tactic where you can inflame and manipulate the passions of the uninformed and misinformed rather than stir their reason.
You've gotta wonder if there is something psychologically wrong with Mitt. Does Mitt really think that selling out to the TEA-RAND Right actually makes him look stronger? He can't, can he? After the drubbing Ryan got on his budget during the primaries does he honestly believe Americans will now embrace it, or its architect? You gotta wonder, if Mitt has actually decided that this running for President thing is a whole lot harder and much more invasive than he anticipated and seeing as how he can't just quit, has chosen to guarantee failure so he can cut his losses and go home. One can only hope I suppose, otherwise his intentions and his sanity are no longer in doubt.
Miss Boo... I personally believe that there is a strong connection between this VP pick and Romney's economical plans..
1.Romney does not want the states to have any control over the welfare to work program...This program is making the large businesses like Mc Donald very rich...They hire 2-20 hour welfare workers instead of 1- 40 hire worker where they do not have to provide insurance..They can jump these welfare workers in and out at the time clock several times a day to cover the high customer consumer times of the day...This saves these large companies from having to hire a another 40 hr shift person..This causes the welfare recipients tremendous hard ship and extra expenses of traveling back and forth to their jobs. but they must do it or they will lose their welfare check...There wages are so low that they can not save a cent ...And because they are a hire on demand worker they must be available if needed and therefore can not work 2 jobs..these large companies want to keep these cheap on demand workers who make them tremendous amounts of profit.
THIS "WORKER ON DEMAND POLICY" IS ANOTHER TYPE OF SLAVERY.!!!!!!!
2. They do not want Obama Care because of the large insurance companies who want paying profitable policy holders..
3. All large companies are investors in insurance and drug companies?????
4..Big business decided they where not making enough profit 20 years ago when they changed the 8 hour work shift to a 10 hour day. They cut the shifts down from 3 shifts per day to 2 shifts and hired welfare recipients to come in late at night and during the early am hours to do the janitorial work...The now 10 hour shift had there number of days cut...They worked 40 hours 1 week and 30 hours the next week...the extra days and hours were filled with part time welfare minimal wage earners...For those who where the regular staff of workers they had lost their statues as full time workers, because they no longer were working a full 200 hours per month. These full time workers where now part-time and lost there insurance with the companies and along came the expensive Blue Cross Cobra Insurance Program for the part-time workers..
Then came the 12 hour shifts now these big companies only had 2 shifts per day. This cut out 1/3 of the full time workers who had once worked there.
These big companies played the same numbers games that Romney and Ryan want to play with our entire economy. Their plans will mean shorter work hours, less pay, but they will demand a higher output of daily workload for each worker. You will be doing twice the work for 1/2 the pay. and when you do not like it look out side...Outside the door will be hundreds of hungry people on welfare waiting to take your job.
Romney and Ryan see people as machines when you no longer profit them they will throw you away and find someone else who will..." I LIKE TO FIRE PEOPLE" said Romney,.......because there is always someone hungry or desperate enough who will work for less.
The magical words in the Ryan and Romney Campaign is LESS,
This is the real danger of marrying government power with corporate power. It sounds good in theory, but in doesn't work in practice.
Corporations have spend a lot of money since World War II trying to connect their interests to patriotic themes (Ted Nace). Please, do not believe this nonsense anymore! What we are seeing in 3-D is the moment in time that corporate stockholders feel they can move to overtake the American democratic process-they act, to supplant the middle-class workers they claimed to support.
I am thinking that the Romney/Ryan ticket gives America a clear choice in November: If you like policies that support the richest two percent in America vote Republican. If you believe as I do, in a strong middle class and growing opportunities for the working poor then vote for President Obama. The Ryan budget proposal clearly benefits the richest one percent of Americans cutting $5.3 trillion in domestic discretionary spending over the next decade while making the Bush tax cuts permanent and increasing military spending. The Ryan budget will leave trillion dollar deficits as far as the eye can see. So if you think the GOP has a plan to balance the budget you had best read about the Ryan budget proposal because it leaves America with an ocean of red ink. Ryan/Romney are the puppets of the plutocrats. President Obama and Joe Biden are the servants of the common average people like me. The choice is simple when laid out in these terms.
President Obama and Joe Biden are the servants of the common average people like me.
Rex, I think you are blind!! WAKE UP!!!!!!!!!!!!
Iconic match-up. I may actually start paying attention just for the entertainment value.
I've started stocking up on the popcorn and a few cold ones. It will be fun to watch.
Over at Ezra Klein's blog the pro-Ryan guys are hooting that Ryan wiped the floor with Obama at the Blair House debate on health care. Does anyone here think that was the case? I can barely recall anything Ryan said, but I do recall Obama rebutting each and every GOP claim made on that occasion.
Someone over at the same blog remarked that these guys who imagine Ryan 'wiping the floor' with Biden are counting on their "imaginary brilliance."
It is all hyperbole on Paul Ryan's side. I saw those intercourses. Paul Ryan used the occasion as an opportunity to tread all over decorum, but President Obama understood the occasion for what it was, a moment to be open and accommodating. Therefore, he did not get down in the weeds with a house representative. The optics would have been awful.
Of course, republicans-tea party (express'ers) went off to FOX, and any media outlet that would have them, screaming gleefully about how they socked it to the #1 Liberal.
Wow,team Romney/Ryan,make,s President Obama a winner in November!!!!!!
Give me a Break......Its funny I don't recall Mitt or Ryan ever serving in the Navy or the Military so why the Military background as if they cared....I was stationed at NAS Norfolk back in the 90's...Why? because I cared. Unlike the Puppet and his running mate the Puppet Master..
Republicans just love the ticket Except for the Mitt Romney part of it.. the problem is reasonable people like me and other Independent Voters think Ryan's Plan is not the direction to go nor are we impressed with Mitt Romney surrounding himself with George H.W Bush supporters...and now what will Catholic Voters do now that Paul Ryan is Mitt's running mate since a few of the Catholic leaders have spoken out against the Ryan's plan and vision......or any Christian, Religion or Individual that values the care of those that have the least among us not to the point of giving them a hand out but surely we can balance the books without harming the elderly and the poor....all while increasing spending for Defense [Defense- It is the word Republicans use instead of War in order to do what the last Republican President did in Iraq] and giving taxes cuts to the wealthy among us
But hey the good part is I was on the fence on who to vote for until now...if Mitt Romney would of shown a bit of leadership instead of giving in to the cries and temper tantrums of his far right wing...I would of backed him but he decided to be fully be the Right's Puppet and I can not Trust nor Support a man or ticket like that...
That being said: Good Luck Obama : )
Man...I must have missed it again...exactly when and where did Obama serve in the military? Please provide a link for all of us so that we can be as educated as you seem to be...
If you noticed...it was the USS Wisconsin...maybe I am wrong, but I think there is a connection between Ryan and that state...help me out if I am.
yeah...you were on the fence....right....
just saying..
capt re reg that means no more tax payer PT for you. Or are you under the impression that by supporting these elitists that are looking out for the top 1% they won't touch your entitlements. Dream on the GOP have nothing for you.
Well StormGuy like I said I didn't vote for Obama the first time.... and I felt the same way back then about him.....But he has treated the Military better than our former President who sent our guys into a meat grinder ill prepared and ill equiped as well as having to lie to us and them to do it...and Osama is dead Qaddafi is gone, Taliban leadership is broken and Foreign Nations kinda trust dealing with us again
So yeah I am cutting Obama a bit of slack this time around regarding the Military he earned it in my book
To bad for you that it was a war that conservatives started under the guise of getting OBL, guess what Obama got him after GWB let him go.
Its kinda funny didn't vote for Obama the first time but I will now....I mean how to anybody can say we are not doing better than we was 3 to 5 years ago is beyond me...We was doing bad...but look at the rest of the world they are going through hell for doing making cuts similar to the GOP Agenda and now we are adding jobs and climbing even the rich is making [not losing] money...so why not the poor and middle class..
We just landed a New Rover on Mars...ending our No Reason Wars in the Middle East, Kicked Butt at the Olympics, Helped free a Nation of a Tyrant with the Blessings of the Muslim World, We now have Technology driving down our Highways i.e Hybrids and Electric cars...where as a few years back all we had was the same old thing...so I can see Change and that gives me Hope...so I think Obama as lived up to his message the best that he could..Now if we had an Infrastructure Bill approved so we can Renovate and innovate our Infrastructure so we can start to live like a 21st century society that would be perfect and unemployment rate would be below 8% if not right at 8%
What will Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan do for us? What change and hope will they make me feel
Anyway I would like to see about 5 years of Paul Ryan's Income Tax Return..
I look at the choice of Ryan as being an excellent opportunity for President Obama to drive home a campaign focused on the positive aspects of government in our lives. Now, he doesn't need to depend as much on the support of Wall Street, and can focus on small businesses and how a society, working together, can prosper all, rather than just the "job creators". The President will now have the opportunity to be more aggressive in his opinions about how to drive the debt into being controled, and increasing efficiencies. If he is smart, he will get more into specifics and away from the generalities that have been prominent in both campaigns. A clear conversation can arise, on the merits of minimalist government vs an effective government for over 300 million people.
Well StormGuy like I said I didn't vote for Obama the first time.... and I felt the same way back then about him.....But he has treated the Military better than our former President who sent our guys into a meat grinder ill prepared and ill equiped as well as having to lie to us and them to do it...and Obama is did Qaddafi is gone, Taliban leadership is broken and Foreign Nations kinda trust dealing with us again

Consumers are the Job Creators....by our demands are jobs created....An Investor responds to that demand if the Volume of Demand is high the Investor must hire more people to handle that demand thus jobs are created
If the consumer has less income to spend their demands are low thus Investors must cut back as to not spend on any unneeded services thus jobs lost...
Consumer demand is what drives the job market not giving the investor more money to spend in any manner as they see fit
Give the poor and middle class more money and they will demand more things to buy thus Investors will need to hire more people and find new ways to meet those demands
The Ryan Plan as well as Republicans seem to just dismiss this power of the consumer and believe that only by they way of the wealthy can us little people get work
HELLO??!
Did you just say that the working consumer class are the job creators??!
So, everybody out there isn't retarded!! THank God!
Even if Obama didn't serve in the military, he did a pretty good job on the Military operation of getting Osama as a Commander in chief...just saying...what does Romney or Ryan have?
All they have are the old Lies and Broken promises of the Bush administration.
They have Bush's economic policies= sucks
They Have Bush's foreign policies and advisers= sucks
They have the same Bush jobs plan which is no jobs plan= sucks
But in defense of my former President that I do love I will say he had character and some Integrity where as Romney and Ryan seem to be lacking
So it is the U.S. Special Forces and CIA's fault that OBL got away for all the Bush years and at Tora Bora? By your logic they were working alone and getting no direction or orders from the Commander-in-Chief. So we should ask the CIA what took them so long? You idiots try to disrespect the President every chance you get, but he said what he was going to do before the election--go into Pakistan and kill OBL-- and did it! Stop lying and making excuss for you republican incompetence in every aspect of governing.
in regards to military, i mean
I'm a life-long liberal Democrat and unemployed union supporter. I think this Romney-Ryan ticket is worth looking at. That's just my feeling. First, like Barack, both of these men are Christians, which I like. Plus, they seem to have experience balancing a budget, and they both look like nice guys that would try to unite the country, like Barack. Definitely, they seem to be a fresher version of the dream for Change and Hope. I might just give them a chance to see what they can do...

Thanks Child...now go 2 more doors down to your left. There will be a 350 lbs Bouncer sitting there, slap him HARD on the back of his head. Okay?
What universe are you living in ..You must have a healthy savings account..that is in a Switzerland bank somewhere. when Romney and Ryan talk about LESS,LESS, they mean the word less....Romney said he likes to fire people.. Yes he does. Beause when people are hungry they will work for whatever he is willing to give them. When one person says he will do the job for $5.oo per hour he knows that there is someone out there who will do the job for $4.50...Da..why do you you think the Mexicans were allowed to take over the jobs in America..they would work for less.
Corporate power and religious-right power is on full display in the republican party in the persons of MRomney and PRyan. In stark relief. These two men are the embodiment of what republicans have been wanting to sell American voters since the 1900s:
Its no wonder this party cannot be satisfied with President Obama, who declared, 'everyone should play by the same rules.'
For you Libs that can read and comprehend. Check it out.
Ed Klein’s best-seller The Amateur: Barack Obama in the White House.
There are two kinds of republicans, the rich and the suckers. Which one are you?
Of course, the clear choice is go to go bankrupt buying the votes of the people that rely on and want to rely on government or fix the broken entitlement system that has created these parasitic leeches. I'm content with that choice.
Well of course that is how the leaches got wealthy, they took every handout they could find, hired lawyers to find more handouts, then hired lobbyists to bribe republican congress into making new handouts for them. Really all of that corporate welfare took a long time to get as high as it has and now the GOP makes no pretense of being bought by the corporate welfare kings. Just really stupid people believe that they too will be getting that corporate welfare thru hard work when that isn't how the wealthy got wealth, they got it the old fashioned way they were born into wealth.
You mean like the kennedys?
Ed:
Did you and Nichols really just say that Ryan had no foreign policy experience, will divide the country, and has never led anything; and shouldn't be elected. Sounds familiar, right? 2008 Presidential nominee Barack Obama. This is a candidate for VP, not the Presidency. That's why you're on MSNBC and not CNN, Fox, or HN. Maybe you'll follow your former colleague Keith Olberman to Current; that's where your opinion should be; subpar tv. Good luck Buddy, I'm sure those ratings will continue to soar.
Being that we have heard from the Atheist above, let's hear from the BO Demo Folkers that he talks about, If a Democrat does not own property, he will not be allowed to vote and will only be a Pro-Choicer
