Ann Romney says her husband won't be releasing any more tax returns—because it'll just give Democrats more fodder to attack him. Her comment echoed the line of defense Mitt Romney used last month.
"We have been very transparent to what's legally required of us," Ann Romney told Natalie Morales on Rock Center with Brian Williams. "But, the more we release, the more we get attacked, the more we get questioned, the more we get pushed. and so we have done what is legally required of us, and there is gonna be no more tax releases."
The comments, which could give new momentum to the furor over the Romney's tax returns, were highlighted on The Ed Show Wednesday.
Ann Romney continued: "Mitt is honest, his integrity is just golden."
And she added: "Beyond paying our taxes, we also pay ten percent of our income to charity. So we have no issues that way and the only reason we dont disclose more is we'd just become a bigger target."
Pressed to elaborate, she said: "It'll just give them more ammunition."
In July, Mr. Romney said he wouldn't release any additional returns because he didn't want the Democrats to "take what's there, twist it, distort it, dishonestly use it in attack ads."

Several tax guys think Reid might be right about Mitt. He might have taken advantage of the IRS amnesty deal for people who had been evading paying taxes. There were so many of them, the IRS came up with the amnesty deal instead of taking years going after each one individually. They would have to pay up, but the IRS would be off their back. The CRS reported that millionaires received $20.8 million in federal unemployment benefits in 2009, up from $18.6 million in 2008. That averages out to $8,806 in unemployment benefits per millionaire.
Unemployment insurance is a joint federal-state program and is funded by a payroll tax assessed against all workers. In the four years preceding 2012, according to the Tax Foundation, the unemployment insurance system was in the red. "Under this interpretation, federal law requires entitlement compensation to be determined from facts or causes related to the individuals state of unemployment," said CRS. "Thus, the DOL requires that states pay compensation for unemployment to all eligible beneficiaries regardless of their income level because individual or household income would not be considered to impact the fact or cause of unemployment."
In addition to the 2,362 people with adjusted gross incomes of $1 million or more who got unemployment benefits in 2009, there were also 8,335 people with incomes between $500,000 and $1 million who received benefits and 120,227 with incomes between $200,000 and $500,000 who received benefits.
On July 17, House Minority Leader Steny Hoyer said that unemployment benefits along with food stamps were the two most stimulative things the government could do for the economy.
"If you talk to economists, they will tell you there are two things that are the most stimulative that you can do--one’s unemployment insurance, the other’s food stamps, okay?” said Hoyer.
“Why is that?” Hoyer said. “Because those folks who receive those resources must spend them. And they’ll spend them almost upon receipt. Most economists with whom I talk believe that those with significant discretionary income, that that’s not the case.”

Steny Hoyer is a democrat, which suggests his views may be skewed. But I won't delve into that issue, as I'm sure we have differing opinions, though I don't think there's anything wrong with that. Primarily, I wanted to point out what may be a minor issue in your post: UI is not paid for by workers. It's assessed to the employers. My wife has a small business, and I know for a fact she has to pay the UI premiums. It is also so stated on the very first page of the TaxpayerFoundation site you referenced.

The Romney's feel they are entitled to the White House because Mitt was a big shot CEO who earned millions of dollars. This about sums up what I gathered from this interview. Every modern presidential candidate has released about 8 to 10 years of tax returns. What we see is that rich women get pretty defensive about where their husbands earn their money. Why the Romney's feel they can just waltz into the White House without following the normal protocol of releasing about ten years of tax returns is beyond me. Ann needs to tell her husband to either fork over those tax returns or else drop out of the race completely. If Mitt Romney can not release his ten years of tax returns and be able to explain what is in them why should anyone trust him to be president? The man is running on his experience in business at Bain Capital. Therefore, Mitt Romney's resume to the American public are those ten years or so of tax returns. If Mitt Romney can not do this because he can not stand up to this kind of scrutiny and attack then he needs to understand that the presidency is not a job for him.
What will poor Mitt Romney do when a major foreign policy crisis requires him to use military force? People get angry when presidents get involved in wars and the body bags inevitably start coming home. When you order troops into battle you are responsible for the dead ones that come home. What will poor Mitt Romney do when he has to meet real families who have lost fathers, sons, or daughters in foreign military actions? Foreign allies also will criticize the President in these types of situations, especially when he asks for their military help. So both at home and abroad Mitt Romney as President will have to learn that he will be hated by many and loved by few or none except his dog. Iran, North Korea, Pakistan, Yemen, the Congo, the Horn of Africa are all potential flash points that are not going away. I should also add Syria. What happens when one of these places explode in political violence, economic crisis, resulting in terrorism, or warfare? Poor Mitt Romney will realize that these types of crisis will make releasing his ten years of tax returns seem like a walk in the park.
I think Mitt Romney is simply too much of a big weakling morally to be President of the United States. What will poor Mitt do when the body bags of dead servicemen come home and everyone hates his guts. What will he do when foreign leaders and leaders in Congress criticize him endlessly for using military force during a crisis? I don't think Mitt Romney has really given much serious thought to that scenario that every modern president seems to have to face. American presidents are still expected to be at the point of the spear when crisis come. The kindest thing Americans can do for Mitt Romney is to vote President Obama in the White House for another term. Romney is not ready for this job as president because he feels entitled too it. The thought that he will have to send men and women into battle and get lots of them killed or maimed while being hated, criticized, and ostracized at every corner has not seriously entered Mitt Romney's CEO brain.

If the tax returns are clean and present no felony or other crime for not declaring all Romney's income, where's the "ammunition"! Most of the previous prexsidential candidates furnished multiple tax returns, and there was never any backlash. In fact, I never heard of ANY backlash. WHAT is Romney hiding?? TM...if you want to go after every politician who has benefitted from the knowledge they have of impending legislative action and how it would affect the stock price of a company...go for it. As a matter of fact, I think there is legislation that has already been proposed that would make it illegal for any elected official to do so. I support that law completely. I think...and I might be wrong here also...that insider trading is normally associated with people within a business who make trades based on yet to be released information that would affect the stock positively or negatively. What Ryan did is not illegal. I dont like it, but until a rule change is made it is legal. It is something that is done by a large number of legislators.

You may be willing to take the flip floppy governor who last time he was running for office said the same things he saying now and back then he did have something to. He's lied before on this issue you're a fool if you think he can't possibly be lying again. Once again this is not about the law this is about Mitt's character. His secrecy on this issue, combined with his vague plans, has ethical maleability, etc. don't know show a very trustworthy person for the world's highest office.
The reason this is happening is because Governor Romney has given no detailed plan for the economy. The right likes to attack Obama for talking about these issues, well guess what Romney isn't talking about them either. When was the last time his campaign was focused? And the president has not sealed any of his college transcripts which will show nothing because his grades aren't that important anymore. Once again you call him a socialist now so it's not going to make a difference. Next the term "sealed" is manipulated by the right to mislead people. "Sealed" records legally are things you need a government order to produce for something that would otherwise be public. College records are not public domain, it is against the law to release any of that without the approval the person who's file it is.
Lastly these aforementioned issues between the transcripts and the taxes are not equivalent, they are not the same. Mitt is refusing to do something every other candidate was asked to do and complied without whinning. Obama was the only candidate asked to release his transcripts which are not public and thus not sealed.

Now I'm grown and Mom has gone to her reward. And we gladly pay taxes on both our Social Security, AND on the Union (Teamsters) Pension which I earned for us while working my whole life long (ret. 2006). We travel a lot...And I look at my kids'---and now, their kids' schools, with computers in every classroom, and I don't regret one penny. I'm sorry though, that my kids won't have it as good as I did---the Republicans themselves, promised us that! I'm sorry that Republicans ruined it for them... I did my best, not to let that happen.

Americans still doubt President Barack Obama’s approach to the U.S. economy, according to a new Gallup poll.
60 percent of respondents said that they disapprove of how the President is managing the economy while 64 percent say that the President faring poorly when it comes to the budget and deficit. Only 36 percent and 30 percent of those polled said they approve of the President on the economy and budget issues respectively.
The President receives similarly low marks on job creation, with 37 percent saying they approve and 54 percent saying that they disapprove.
Combating terrorism appears to be the President’s top issue. 58 percent said the President is doing well while only 35 percent said that they disapprove.
