Missouri's Claire McCaskill may not be the most liberal Democrat in the Senate, but she's one of Obama's biggest assets, according to The Last Word host Lawrence O'Donnell.
In June, McCaskill seemingly distanced herself from the president by announcing she wouldn’t be attending the Democratic convention. She said she never attends during her own campaigns, but O’Donnell said “there’s not much room for doubt that [distancing herself from Obama] is one of the reasons she won’t be attending.”
O'Donnell argued that Democrats are wrong when they criticize moderate Democrats from moderate states, saying that Obama “wouldn’t dream of criticizing” her, because “he wants Claire McCaskill to get re-elected in Missouri, a state he lost four years ago.”
According to O’Donnell, McCaskill has been “as helpful as any Democrat in an unsafe Senate seat has ever been.” In fact, she voted for the stimulus bill, the Affordable Care Act (something that is particularly unpopular in Missouri), and the confirmation of Sonia Sotomeyer and Elena Kagan.
“The votes that Claire McCaskill has cast for President Obama’s agenda have cost her so much politically that she has been [polling] significantly behind an abject imbecile,” O’Donnell said referring to Republican Rep. Todd Akin.
"America should be thanking her for managing to prevent a member of the Missouri Republican party from winning that Senate seat six years ago," O'Donnell said. "And for sanity's sake, for America's sanity, America should be hoping Claire McCaskill can do it again."

Do you know when to stop? Were you making the case for or against her in Missouri? She was behind Akin for the reasons you praised her. Way to go.
O'Donnell is a political operative first and foremost, not a rigorous thinker, burdened with logic, thinker, LOL! He's angling for continued Democrat control of the Senate, that do nothing "talking society" under the leadership of Harry Reid.
Father of Nine- I disagree with every single thing you say, also, if you are repeatedly going to use a word, please take the time to spell it correctly. Nazis is plural not possessive.
You guys are so biased it is my belief no one can trust a thing you say. Just run a banner on TV 24/7 saying you support Obama at all cost to our way of life (Capitalism).
"What do you think that child thinks when the so called doctor pierces its little skull to kill it?"
It doesn't think anything. Because it doesn't have a skull. In fact, it doesn't have much of anything at all, the least of which is a skull or the ability to think.
Nine's argument is pretty much a strawman argument as well, Christina. Per my sister who's an MD who's a practicing ob/gyn, the sort of pregnancy termination you described is extremely rare and done only when it's apparent there are huge deformities or birth defects in the fetus (such as only a rudimentary brain stem in lieu of an intact structure). That same sister won't perform abortions because of horror stories of the "witch hunters" on the right crashing operating rooms in order to "save" innocent lives...
Nine children, and check out the denial he's in regarding the ecological impact those children are putting on the planet. Not a very nice way to treat God's "gift" to mankind, eh? And I'm still baffled by those pious sorts who claim a relationship with the Almighty but insist on impersonating HIm regularly...
'Nuff, I do hope "nine" has his family observe five or six extra "Mother's Days" during the year... His wife certainly deserves them....
Cabbie,
I feel that you have made a rush to judgment without properly researching Father of Nine. Here is some background material .
In general 9 suffers from a common misconception that God’s focus is on the preservation of life – when God’s actions in the Bible indicate that His goal is the maximization of the number of souls saved – not the same thing.
Apparently, God cannot solve the problems of the world without our help – seriously.

In response to slavery and attempted genocide of native Americans
“all of us suffer some form of injustice…” basically – get over it – kind of the David Barton view of American History.

Apparently he belives he speaks with “The Prophetic Voice of a Seer “ – above my pay grade . Only bad thing about being a prophet – you are required to be right 100% of the time.
“…there seems no way God will bless America without serious
character change across the country.” Well, I can say an Amen to that though not for the particular character change he apparently desires.

Now Cabbie – don’t you think you can now make a more informed decision? Oh- can you tell me where the snark button is - everyone tells me I need to use it with my posts - not sure why.
You didn't need a snark button for me, that's fersher... I don't know whether it was the Holy Spirit who broke the news to me or just decades of developing cabdriver intution...
How about this do-it-yourselfer: [SNARK!]
I only managed one of your links; sorry (did you get my Newsvine Friend request? Haven't checked there, but will later because I'm going to clean out this browser).
I think I sent you a link to LDS Freedom Forum, didn't ?
http://www.ldsfreedomforum.com
I live barely twenty miles from "Happy Valley," home of Mitt Romney's alma mater, Brigham Young University, and I've listened to this tripe for years...
Don't get me started on my junior high biology teacher... I owe Grandpa Fuzz a debt of gratitude for helping me exorcise some demons that yayhoo stuck in my psyche...
Q: How do you know you're at a Mormon wedding?
A: The mother-of-the-bride is pregnant...
The God of the Old Testament certainly isn't that big on preserving life; look at what he did during the time of Noah, and then there was Jericho and the way he shamelessly favored the Egyptians over the Hewbrews...
Cabbie,
Sorry - I should have specified - Right Click - Open Link in New Window - at least on a PC.
Adam
Oh no, it wasn't that I couldn't open the links; I only opened a single one however; the ol' bullchip catcher was practically full...
I am, however, a long-time faithful disciple of the one true Church of the One-Button Mouse (option-click or control-click handles the other button; perhaps Jobs went for that one because he knew as a liberal he didn't want to be considered a Commie with a "left button"). I even go back to having read articles like "Apple Death Watch" and "Macs are Dinosaurs," seriously. I spent a small windfall on a Performa at an auction; I wish I had bought Apple stock instead...
I see Nine is giving serious consideration to whether Obama is the anti-Christ or not... I wonder if they're arguing that one over at LDS Freedom, too... I send people to the "Moon Landings Faked?" thread if I think some are in need of comic relief...
And honest, I has just joking a few years ago when I suggested Bill Gates might be the anti-Christ... Paul Allen's basketball team beat my beloved Jazz that year, and Gates was his guest in the audience...
Hey, Cindy, are you willing to take directions from a cabbie? You might head over to that place... It'll either kill you or cure you...
What do you think God is thinking allowing poor innocent children to be born with horrific birth defects a list as long as your arm filled with life long suffering and an absolute [0] quality of life. Allow me to make one thing abundantly clear to a buttinsky like you that is ready to pass moral judgement on everyone that doesn't see things the way you do. I am not God you are most certainly not God and God is not God. There is no judgement day ,no one in the sky coming to rescue us. Nobody stamping out inherent evil in this world. There is no one drawing lines of delineation, waving hands and destroying countries with natural disaster. I am sure of two things and two things only on this planet. First we are all going to exit it someday ,and secondly people like you with ideals that hold absolutely no credibility or proof continue to pass moral judgement on everyone else will continue to labor under the dilution that you have all the answers For the love of God or whomever mind your damn business
If there is a God, he's part psycopath.
Yes, there is a God and he will replace Barack Obama this November. "God giveth, God taketh away" "God setteth kings and kingdoms".
Yes, we heard the word... Problem is this one, however...
It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter unto the Kingdom of God...
And then there's that "suffer a witch to live" stuff. Hey, I've had some harsh thought about exes, but that's a little extreme...
Whoops, better correct that typo above which should read "God shamelessly favored the Hebrews over the Egyptians."
Of course they then wandered forty years in the desert... Thank goodness for the poet William Blake who noted, "The Creator of this world is a very cruel being."
You are so biased in this election you are willing to spin America into socialism just to get Obama elected, some call that "buying votes". You should put a warning on the screen at the beginning of your news programs stating the material contained within is a paid political announcement.
Please tell Lawrence that I appreciated his comment. I get frustrated by those who are constantly complaining about moderate dems. I get frustrated by them at times, but at other times they do help in moving the progressive positions forward.
Lawrence--
I didn't say this, and by the time you air tonight, the damage will be done here in Akin's home district. You should heap this on top of the on-tape quote about picking Romney and losing the election.
An op-ed by Ann Coulter, who seems to be right on-point with things so far:
"I won’t hate Todd Akin officially unless he refuses to withdraw from the Missouri Senate race."
Scroll down the page to a comment by someone who should be your newest writer, Mitchell Glaser (and if you hire him--I have no idea who he is--he should thank me for the gig):
"When Ann Coulter says you've crossed the line, then you know you've said something REALLY crazy!"
Read the whole thing here:
If Todd Akin stays in the race--and reports are right now that he is--and it pisses off Ann Coulter, that's not entirely a bad thing...
Best to take cover and let the Teapublicans indulge in their circular firing squad...
My link to the article on humanevents dot com got stripped from my post. Read the whole thing. One comment says, "It's tough to win when your own party disowns you, but there it is." One draws a parallel to Anthony Weiner.
And that's a good rewrite, straight from Akin's Congressional District.
Did anyone ask him what if it happened to his daughter?
Folks need to realize that some of the far leftie pundits who engage in Democrat bashing, as in the 2010 election, through discernment to their "highest ideals" are probably just gold digging corporate shills, who actually just want that corporate paycheck. The far left corporate Obama and Democrat bashing disillusioners are probably corporate liberals, working for the man and that man ain't Uncle Sam. Corporate pundits bash from the left and right as corporate America sings it's victory song. Corporate America chooses it's lefties very carefully. O'Donnell on the other hand is an actual Democrat. and one of the very few in American corporate media, and at MSNBC. GO'Donnell! ... #1 at MSNBC!
Please Spread This Message .......
America's Women could make this election a rout of all fanatical Republicans !
All women have to do is tell their husbands and boy friends that if a Women Hating Republican wins a Senate, Representative, Governor seat or becomes President that they will be getting no sex for anytime soon !
Respect the rights of women or you pay the consequences !
Howard Scott Pearlman
The majority of women in the electorate are supportive of the Right to Life movement, Howard. It is a left wingnut myth that women as a group support the practice of abortion, much less wanting to pay for irresponsible girls and women to have that procedure through their taxes.
So if you ask for a manipulation by witholding sex by women, its going to go down the other way, fool. You and your ilk will be the ones not getting the lovein'! LOL!
Nobody is "pro abortion" Grandpa; we're simply pro-choice and realize it's none of the government's business...
But keep up those slurs on women; that'll win a lot of points...
Chris Matthews had Joe Klein on tonight, and he pointed out that in lower economic classes, rape of younger girls by older men is a factor in half of teenage pregnancies...
Fail...
Since O'Donnell is now #1 at MSNBC and corporate liberal/fake Democrat Maddow is now losing ground as she continues to further alienate actual Democrats, perhaps MSNBC should take the hint. Democrats don't much care for fake Democrats. We prefer the real thing, like O'Donnell. Dems. can do without the Benedict Arnold Dems of corporate American media. Also, since O'Donnell is now #1 in MSNBC ratings, if Maddow, not O'Donnell chairs the GOP convention coverage, it's probably a good sign that the corporate fix is in.
This talk of when life begins is absolute nonsense. Every cell in a woman's body is alive. So the question is when does one of these cells or combination of cells become a recognizable human being. I can understand opposition to late term abortion but opposition to abortion in the early weeks of pregnancy is driven entirely be non scientific religious beliefs. What is the difference between this kind of demand and Sharia. The principle is the same. Give them an inch and they will take a mile.
Lawrence missed one important point about Paul Ryan. He has acknowledged being driven by his Catholic Faith. That church forbids abortion even in the case of the rape of a minor. A few years ago the Catholic Archbishop in Brazil excommunicated all those associated with an abortion performed on a seven year old who had been raped by her step father. The step father was not excommunicated.
Ladies, Beware.
Lawrence has explained to conservatives why they should vote against McCaskill even if they like and respect her.
Seems like Lawrence is driven by only one thing. He needs to show how smart and politically experienced he is no matter what the collateral damage.
Anyone who believes that women aren't going to the polls with the economic issues foremost in their minds is barking up the wrong tree, and that includes the Obama campaign it lackeys in the liberal press that insist on prosecuting this ridiculous GOP War on Women nonsense daily. 400,000+ women lost their jobs under Barrack Obama that were working in the last year of the George Bush Administration, and they all have sisters, mothers, daughters, and friends...and they aren't about to return the amateur boy man president back to office after his failures on the economy, the nations indebtedness that he ran up $6 Trillion additional dollars that these women children will have to pay back, and suffer the crushing weight of on the economy they live in a generation from now.%2
Anyone who wants to assert biblical authority over abortion should read Genesis 2.7. There he/she/it will find nothing about eggs and spermatazoa but something aobut the first breath, not of life on earth, but of the birth of Adam: only when he took his first breath did he acquire a soul. So, this notion that the mysogynistic evangelicals, whether male or female, arep pushing about fertile eggs, has no biblical authority. I suspect it might come something in the Napoleonic code, but I'm not use. the biblical view of women, in common with all the religions of those days, was that women's bodies are deformedmale bodies.

All the hoopla for two days now and counting with this post over and ignorant and offensive statement made by a Congressman running for the office of Senator in Bible Belt Missouri, and we have a dozen and counting post topics and MSNBC going wall to wall news on this for 48 hours, 24/7. Gee, I see the fool is still up by a point over McCaskill in the latest polling. Seems the people of Missouri, like the voters of this nation, are more interested in restoring our economy, our good name in our fiscal state under such attack by Obama and his Democrat colleagues in the Senate, and that abominatin of the ObamaCare bill that stole $716 billion dollars from the Medicare Trust Fund as part of its funding. Not to mention Obama's bizzare war on fossile fuels that is leading to spiraling higher gasoline, diesel, and heating oil prices and food prices (as his federal regulations called for doubling the use of corn for ethanol production).
Panicked, he is now enlisting the help of private equity investment firm The Carlisle Group to rescue a falling refinery in Phildelphia that the Conoco Corp. is shutting down. And his sudden conversion to approving of the worth of private equity firms after month of attack, especially on Bain Capital, he has enlisted a former BAIN CAPITAL consultantto his staff to advise on how to get this moribund private sector economy to get moving again, although to save on the political embarrassment for that move, insisted that the poor individual remove from his resume the reference of his work for Bain Capital while Romney was CEO. (85% success rate for turning around failing companies in trouble industries). What a bloody hypocrite this amatuer Obama is, and its high time the liberal media tell the story straight on him. They didn't vet him in 2008, and they will undoubedly play it dump as to his failings and not vet his disasterous record for 2008-2012 either, if this summer's news coverage and commentary is any indication.
