The Republican effort to suppress the vote in Ohio is the "biggest story in this presidential race," according to Ed Schultz. And in a fiery appearance on Ed's show, an Ohio lawmaker pulled no punches in describing what's happening.
The GOP has shortened voting hours in all 88 counties since 2008, the host of The Ed Show reminded viewers Thursday. And he noted that 47% of voters—predominantly African-Americans—last time around took advantage of extended hours to cast their ballots.
Ohio State Sen. Nina Turner took it from there. "This is nothing more than uniform voter suppression, make no mistake about it," she told Shultz.
Turner pointed out that Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted, a Republican, had cut voting on Sunday—a day when many blacks have traditionally gone to the polls after church. "We know exactly who their targets are," she said, estimating that around 200,000 Ohioans would be affected by the loss of extended voting hours.
Turner was just getting warmed up.
"I'm gonna tell you something, Ed," she went on. "If you are poor, working-class, middle-class, elderly, African-American, Hispanic, or a woman, you are SOL when it comes to Republicans. They are making it very clear that they don't care, that they are here to oppress and suppress, and they don't care how they steal the vote."

They can continue to suppress the vote because they're going to squeeze some possible they may gotten . Besides Romney being vague is going make him come up short .
hey, wasn't this the state that found 15 of President Obama's out of state campaign workers registered to an address rented by the campaign and voted in Ohio instead of their own state?
I'm all for voter fraud suppression.
Every once and awhile, we see these power plays run their course. We sit back in shock and are confused that "responsible" people would act in such an unethical manner. Then we find that there are plenty of individuals who agree with one of these acts and insists that it is nothing but enforcing reasonable interpretation of the laws.
At the point that it looks like these actions will actually occur, the vast Middle of America starts to recognize that evil which is using power plays just to maintain control by a single group of select people. In this case, I see that group as conservative, white males who insist upon their "right" to domination over minorities and women. Hopefully, at this point, the Middle will rise to vote out this group and place more LeanForward types in their stead. If we yell loud enough, maybe they will pay attention and use their vote, to make the change.

Thankful Mom - This kind of thinking has gotten worse since nixon and is now infringing on our rights since the "Patriot " Act. we can be spied on whenever the government wants without a court order if the excuse is they are searching for terrorists. Pretty soon they will be able to torture american citizens if we don't clean out the Repubs.
At least Obama is committed to ending the patriot act...
And you believe they haven't always spied on US citzens?
I am almost nostalgic for the Nixon era minus the Watergate problems. Richard Nixon could go to China and have a conversation about American and Chinese relations without making you feel embarrassed. Richard Nixon had a decent health insurance plan called CHIP that formed much of the Affordable Care Act, created the Environmental Protection Agency, and actually improved relations with the Soviet Union by starting negotiations with the Strategic Arms Limitations Treaty. SALT and Chinese relations actually were two very significant achievements of the Nixon administration. Richard Nixon actually brought people together from the two parties and got useful legislation passed. Its hard sometimes to get passed Vietnam nor am I excusing his abuses during Watergate but Richard Nixon did many good things forty years on that helped America as a country. I also look at Gerald Ford with a good deal of respect because Gerald Ford always tried to do what he thought was best for the country and tried to heal the scars of a tumultuous period for our nation. His pardon of Nixon took courage. It also was in the national interest after a long period of chaos. America needed a firm hand on the rudder. We don't always agree with past president's decisions but we have to give them credit when they sincerely tried to help the country. The other thing is that both Nixon, Ford, Carter, and even Reagan worked with both parties to get the essential business of the nation accomplished. Important bills and decisions got made by compromise, negotiations, and meetings of leaders who worked behind the scenes playing the game of democracy called "Let's make a deal" so something gets done for the country.
Now fast forward to today's GOP/Tea Party radicals. Normal educated Americans can not work with the GOP/Tea Party because they are radicals bent on obstruction and destruction. The American Jobs Act and the Small Business Tax credit bill would have created or saved about three million jobs. Both of these bills have been obstructed or filibustered by the GOP House or filibustered in the Senate. Many other bills that would have helped budget strapped states and put unemployed workers back on the payroll have been filibustered or have taken tremendous amounts of time to pass. We need to remember that the Farm Bill is usually been an important bill that both chambers of Congress are eager to get to the President's desk for signature because agriculture is a huge industry all across America. Yet the Senate passed the Farm Bill but the GOP/Tea Party House failed to pass this bill like President Obama and both parties leaders in the Senate wanted. This pathetic display by the GOP/Tea Party House shows that the American system is not able to get anything done anymore. All we do is get dragged down into a right winged ditch. No one can rule from the extreme right or left, you have to rule from the center. This cardinal rule is being violated by the radical GOP/Tea Party.
President Obama has bent over backwards trying to work with Republicans. All he has gotten in return for his trouble has been obstructionism, racism, and radical intolerance to even pass a Farm Bill that only has eight days in September. I guess ranchers, farmers, and agribusiness companies mean nothing to the Tea Party/GOP or the 47 million working poor Americans who need Food Stamps/SNAP. All that matters is President Obama is a one term president. You never heard such talk when Nixon, Ford, Carter, or Reagan called leaders together to play "let's make a deal". This is why America was a decent country 40 years ago and today our country is failing to get basic bills, like the Farm Bill passed on time and on schedule. It's not about President Obama getting reelected, its about the important business of the American people not getting done because of GOP/Tea Party radicalism and obstructionism.
Rex your being a little extreme about the Tea Party. Tea Party was formed by the hands of Obama with his arrogant I"M THE MAN ATTITUDE. Ramming Obama Care down our throat, spiking the football saying "TAKE THAT GOP". It bit Obama hard in the ASS 2010. IT WILL TAKE OUT IN 2012. Especially when the banks crash within the next months.
Re: #2.6
The only thing wrong with your post is that Rex is correct about the Tea Party, that is not why the Tea Party was formed, that was not President Obama's attitude, the ACA was passed into law by a majority [not rammed down anyone's throat, no "football" was spiked, and the Republicans deceived voters when they ran on "Jobs, Jobs, Jobs" in 2010 so the whole country was "bit in the ass".
I don't know what you mean by "IT WILL TAKE OUT IN 2012".
No banks are going to crash within the next few months unless they have been wildly stupid and irresponsible - AGAIN!!
hemi,
you sound rather ignorant and simple-minded in your discription of President Obama and why the tea party was formed.
the tea party was formed by racists who didn't want a black man in the white house.
Yeah- Here would be a typical Obama sound bit- "Today, I have decided to make an attempt to work with those do-nothing, idiotic Republicans who are only interested in destroying the middle class and enriching wealthy people. We've scheduled a meeting with them- it is right after they meet to solidify their plans to destroy the environment and teachers." Bipartisan hopes with the best.
Suzette: Why is it that any criticism of Obama is met with the comment " they are Racists who did'nt want a black man in the white house"?
When in fact the obamacare bill was rammed down our throats and no one had time to read the entire bill before pelosi and reid took up the votes and got it passed when they had majorities in the house & senate.
The Tea Party is based upon bringing back representative government and to remind both sides they work for us the voters and not for their own self interests.
The only thing racist about the tea party is their dislike of tax hiking politicians and do not for get that the current prez is HALF Black and was raised by his WHITE family when his parents split up.
It has nothing to do with his race it has everything to do with his policies that the majority of Americans disagree with and is why he will be booted out of office in 95 days.
2589429,
If you're going to put quotes on it, it should be an actual quote not a complete fabrication.
Repugnantcans choose not to work with this president and the country has suffered for that reason.
x2 post
Is this better "the tea party was formed by racists who didn't want a black man in the white house"
Harry Reid has not put a budget to vote in over 1,000 days, so do not talk about Republicans not wanting to work with Prez, they have to have a point of discussion which is tough to do with obstructionists in the democratic party calling the shots in the Senate.
The tea party was formed by the Koch brothers to combat health care reform. Just a bunch of old Robertson moral majority losers who lost their voice after Reagan left office until the Koch brothers tricked them into believing that health care reform was going to take away their medicare.
Fore- I think it was clear it wasn't meant to be a direct quote but an example. I like the fact, though, that you find fault with punctuation rather than content. And who can blame you. You are taking the logical path, because the president you so dearly love is inneffectual.
Unreal- the Godwin rule needs to be re-written and named the Rusty rule. Like- in any Internet discussion, once three or more political comments are exchanged, the probability that the one who doesn't profess undying love for Obama is a racist.
2589429,
Along with the punctuation I did say it was a complete fabrication. Typical narrow minded right winger - only sees what you want to see.
So it is your opinion that Obama doesn't approach concepts from a confrontational aspect? If so, I would suggest some delusional elements are in play.
unreal,
your post 2.10-
the reason we call it "racism", is because it looks and feels and sounds like racism. you are very naive if you think that our FIRST AFRICAN AMERICAN president isn't going to have to pay a price for BEING our first african american president.
how can you say health care reform was rammed down your throats when President Obama put the "individual mandate", A CONSERVATIVE REPUB IDEA, as the "core" of the health care reform bill. he did that to get repubs to come to the table and vote FOR THE BILL. repubs loved the individual mandate and found it CONSTITUTIONAL before President Obama put it in his health care reform. it was only after Obama put it in health care reform that REPUBS FOUND IT UNCONSTITUTIONAL, and acted as if they had NEVER HEARD OF THE INDIVIDUAL MANDATE.
the only thing racist about the tea party is their dislike of tax-hiking politicians-
you are aware that President Obama has NOT raised taxes? the tea-party also dislikes the debt and deficit. but where WERE THEY WHEN BUSH WAS PUTTING EVERYTHING ON THE CREDIT CARD? where were they when bush signed the 2nd part of the bush tax cuts into law, the same month he invaded iraq? then HE CONVENIENTLY LEFT THE 2 WARS AND MEDICARE PART D OFF THE BOOKS.
when President Obama took office he did at least 2 things immediately-he ramped up the hunt for bin laden, and he said this, "we will no longer lie to the american people about the cost of the wars".
he added the cost of the wars and medicare part D to the deficit, and now he gets the blame for it.
the repubs love deficits and big gov't WHEN THEY ARE IN POWER. the only time they complain about the deficit and the size of gov't is when a DEMOCRAT HOLDS THE OFFICE OF THE PRESIDENCY.
yes, President Obama is white, too. but he doesn't LOOK white. it is his "african" heritage (appearance) that makes MANY FEEL AS IF THIS PRESIDENT HAS PAINTED THE WHITE HOUSE BLACK, and they don't like it.
many of the comments here from conservatives/baggers/repubs have been very disrespectful to President Obama. that disrespect is apparent in how repubs in washington treat our president. it is obvious to me and many others that racism is a part of their demonization of this president.
they are unembarassable in their blatant attempts to demonize this president.
again, you are very naive if you think President Obama won't pay/isn't paying a price for being the first african american President.
how convenient for you all.
Three years of legislative proposals that were historically supported by republicans, became obstructed by republicans. Obviously the president sees what he's up against.
Both parties supported economic stimulus historically but not if President Obama proposed it. Better job numbers are not the republican agenda. It's not like they didn't know stimulus would create jobs. Republicans in congress submitted requests for stimulus money complete with estimates for the numbers of jobs they could create.
Wake up republicans!
Suzette, the reason you call it racism is because it is in disagreement with Obama.
Fore, the GOP did indeed go along with Obama's stimulus plan. I realize it makes your point sound better if you can say it your way, but can you show a president who was given a larger stimulus?
Suzette, I will agree with you that there is a lot of disrespect from the right towards Obama on here. That is not good. However, I would also wager there is more disrespect shown to Romney than to Obama. I would assume you are just as much opposed to that?
As a measure, just take posts from Ed's blogs for the last week, and count how many times Obama has been spelled incorrectly versus Romney's. The principle is that if you demand respect for your side, then you must give respect to the other side.
Go to the Fake 'news' blog and see how much 'respect' they give Obama over there. Then you 'baggers come to this blog simply to be a pain in the ass yet you ask for 'respect'? Thats really funny.
Suzette, an example of your side not giving respect that you demand can be seen immediately above this post. Tex has the right to use the names he chooses, but in doing that, the Left has given up the right to demand respect. I'll continue to refer to our President as Obama. And he is my president. I find it funny, though, that many on the left would disavow Bush as their president.
c'mon rusty.
you think i am calling this racism, simply because repubs disagree with President Obama?
i know what i am basing my feelings on. people disagree, there is nothing wrong with or new about that. i am looking at the changes that have occured in regard to people in power (the house, the senate, repub governor's, repub-led states).
all one really has to do is listen to the likes of pat buchanan (and others) to know how many repubs feel about President Obama. have you ever heard the horrible things he says about Obama that are clearly racist? the sad thing is that many repubs grew up with attitudes like this, they were raised this way. "racist" attitudes are part of their make-up, of who they are. they simply do not realize how they sound, or maybe they do and just do not care.
in regard to your other posts, i cannot control the repubs in washington or the people on this blog. as a general rule, i try to be respectful and deal with the issues, and not call names, but i like to swear. we all have our character defects, and people here get emotional because we feel passionately about our repub/democratic beliefs.
i don't understand how you all do not see what the repubs with power are doing to our president.
i have the right to say what i believe is going on because i see it. President Obama and the democratic party are not perfect either, but they are not as mean-spirited as repubs. you do understand that President Obama will pay a price as our first black president? you do get that?
what i see is much more than repubs against democrats. President Obama is paying a price for being an african american, on top of the fact that he is also a democrat.
if you think racism is dead, and that President Obama DOES NOT HAVE RACIST ATTITUDES directed at him, YOU ARE VERY NAIVE and blind.
racism and hate are powerful motivators, and this is a (big) part of the obstructionism and filibustering and the reason for voter suppression laws we have seen from repubs in washington.
how convenient to say that the disrespect and demonization shown to our president is only because of "repub vs. democrat".
i think you are blind.
Suzette, short answer is yes.
Stand up and tell the truth right from Obamas party that is funny. Obama has done nothing but lie and sign bills into law with just a stroke of the pen, buy passing the House and Congress. If Obama wins who will he put the blame on? The last 3 1/2 years he has been blaming Bush for all the bad stuff, who will he blame now? Bush
Says the guy who belongs to a party with a guy who is either for everything or he is against everything.
Sometimes within the same half hour.
CD are you going to flip/flop that, and claim it is true....or is it just your reflected right opinion. Nonesense! You are amoung that blind trust of willard's
You are greatly mistaken. NO president can sign bills into law with the stroke of a pen bypassing [not buypassing] the House and Congress [the House is one chamber of Congress, the lower chamber]/
Your immense ignorance is showing.
Lots of ways to make law. Or instance, Obama tried to make law with regs on coal. Upon suit in appellate court yesterday, the justices rejected Obama's arguments and tossed the regs. There are numerous new "laws" by stroke of pen. If it's enforceable, it's law...
Blah blah blah rusty says its true so therefore in rusty delusional mind it must be true, then there is reality.
since we are talking about flip-flops...
Is Obama for gay marriage this week or against it?
Is Obama going to close Gitmo or leave it open?
Is Obama going to cut the deficit in half or increase it by 50%?
Is Obama going to televise all of the healthcare hearings or conduct them behind closed doors?
Is Obama going to allow the public to review all bills for 72 hours before he signs them into law or just go ahead and do it anyway?
Is Obama against raising the debt limit or is he in favor of raising the debt limit?
Is Obama for the Patriot Act or against the Patriot Act?
Is Obama for lobbyists working in the White House or against that idea?
Is Obama for public financing of campaigns or against public financing?
EVERY politician flip-flops on issues for a wide variety of reasons. Democrats are no more innocent than anyone else.
just saying...
God forbid you blame the Republican congress for Gitmo not closing. Go back and see what actually happened. Boehner would not give $1.00 for transport of the detainees. GOP congress wouldn't allow any detainees to enter the US. Why not tell the truth for a change and not just the parts you want.
Larry, did Obama keep his campaign promise to close Gitmo within 1 year? (it's a closed ended question).
Rusty...once again you are not playing fair with the Democrats. Your use of facts and holding Obama accountable for what he promised is not allowed in their fantasy world You know better than that...
just saying...
LOL..Thats hilarious! Can you 'baggers be less informed that you all ready are? Here's the answer to your statement of 'Obama didn't close Gitmo'. It's because the teabaggers in congress and the senate whinned like 'lil girls that Obama was bringing terrorist to our country plus they would not vote to fund it!! So much so they had to give it up.....As a mechanic would say, 'There's your problem'.
Thanks tex. you are correct when you said Obama didn't fulfill his campaign promise to close Gitmo. That proves you are informed. Larry, see how easy it is to come clean?
Nina Taylor was fantastic today! She did not mince words about the unbridled attempt to deny African Americans the right to vote in Ohio. It is shameful!! Thank you, Nina!!!
Hey they can go out and vote just like the white folks can at the time that is established for the polling hours. It has nothing to do with race and as usual whenever a democrat does not like someting they throw out the race card.
The only question I have is exactly how many black people vote regularly in the election process in ohio and if they both black & white people are unemployed, doe it really matter what the polling hours are because they should have time in between their job search to stop in and vote at the times posted.
Another non issue, move on to more relative topics like the high unemployment and crappy economy.
Right and in other news tea bagged republicans are known as dishonest tellers of lies that they repeat nonstop.
I mentioned it yesterday, here in WI Atty. Gen JB van Hollen has asked the State Supreme Court to hear the voter id and return a decision before the election. I would say that if Ryan wasn't picked we wouldn't probably be hearing about this.
In the old South, whites feared that they would suffer with the end of segregation. Their privileges would be reduced; their economy would be upended. In fact, the civil rights movement’s victories opened the South to a new prosperity. Investment flowed in. Companies that would have not gone into a segregated South moved to Atlanta and other cities.
It turned out that to hold African Americans in a ditch, whites had to stay down there with them. The end of segregation, the passage of voting rights, created new opportunity for all.
the old South did not die. The modern Republican Party was built on its infamous Southern strategy, appealing to whites in reaction to the passage of the civil rights laws. Now that strategy, which alienated African-American voters, seems to be replaying itself in the party’s harsh rhetoric and actions about the new wave of immigrants. The result may well alienate Latino and Asian-American voters.
Worse, it means that one of America’s two major parties is increasingly devoted to finding ways to limit the vote rather than expand it. In fact, what we ought to have is a competition on how to ensure that every citizen can cast his or her vote easily. Automatic registration on birth, early voting, extended voting days, polls that are open on weekends and before and after work days — we should be having a competition on how to increase the vote, not on how to suppress it.
I don't hate republican people, I hate what they stand for....JB van Hollen proves my point and so does Walker and Romney and Ryan and Boehner and Cantor and the list goes on and on.....
Wow. I feel the exact same way on the other side. I hate what Obama, Biden, Pelosi, Reid, Durban, harkin, et al stand for. And my list goes on as well.
Your problem rusty is you drank the koolaid and you believe that one day you will need those tax cuts you are paying for. To bad for you rusty Reagan was just as much of a liar as robme hood is. What Reagan promised you is never going to happen, so you just gave away any chance you might have had at being more then a GOP trained monkey holding a tin cup dancing to the Hurdy Gurdy the GOP play hoping for a bigger handout.
You lack of originality proves my point Rusty....
Ifor1- and help me out here- what was your point?

NOTICE: The 2010 election season saw a lot of voter mobilization activity from partisan groups. Most Get Out the Vote campaigns are great and perfectly legal, but we urge voters to be wary of unsolicited mailers or robocalls from groups with clear political agendas, or from websites that ask for sensitive personal information without explaining who they are or what they will do with that information.
Additionally, several groups have recently used Long Distance Voter's name and materials improperly, in such a way that it looked as though it we were affiliated with them. Our Partners Page lists groups we proudly work with; if a group is not on this list, they are not affiliated with us.
If you receive an unsolicited absentee voting application or similar form in the mail, make sure that 1) your local election official's address is correct, and 2) you always use a secure envelope to return the form
We've posted a list of things to look out for in unsolicited mailers and an open letter to the RNC regarding these matters.

Obama has his own signt......this is the one in my state. just go to replace the last two capital letters with your own
Doesn't anyone else find it depressing that, in some parts of our country, The Civil War isn't over yet? I find all this voter id, abortion, contraception, self-deportation, and disrespect of our President totally disgusting.
George Bush and Dick Cheney destroyed our economy & reputation in 8 short years, but that's ok because they were white, and Bush was from Texas? It's incredible!
I'm white. I'm a christian. BUT I AM NOT BLIND!
deb-3801901- Come on, show me how Bush destroyed the economy. And I'll give you a TRUCK LOAD on Bill Clinton, Chris Dodd, Barneny Franks and yours Truly Obama.
And not one truck load of garbage you post will be factual.
Thats OK, Your going to learn to just deal with it, Obama is loosing ground and Romney will be President. And you'll run out of silly little remarks!
Only to the dirty old perverts who weren't going to vote for Obama anyhow. Sorry but robme hood can not win without minorities and minorities do not like robme hood no matter what Fox news and yahoo say.
392 hemi,
Looks like you've become delusional. Romney/Ryan have already lost all of the black, Latino, female, independent, union, and middle class voters. All he has left are the rich and the crazies.
Time for your meds.
The president can only do so much on his own, it takes acts of congress to do other things so what is the president suppose to do when f*ing congress won't let him pass laws that will make great change. Vote no on the jobs bill, lying and saying the stimulus package didn't work, trying to suppress the vote with voter id laws, won't support students with loans and grants, help rebuild the crumbling infrastructure, or help people find jobs and get the added education so they can train and make a decent living for their family. What can the president do when his hands are tied by a do nothing congress.
Why doesn't he just try to start off with mocking them. That's a great start. Oops, he did that last term. Even Clinton and bush figured out how to get things done with hostile congress. Put them both a leap ahead of Obama.
Failed attempt at history re write 101.
Rusty is to young to remember when Newtie shut the gov down in 1995. It cost the neocons the house and senate. As usual he knows not what he's talking about.
Tex- actually- Rusty isn't to young to remember that. Old age disrupts my memory moreso than youthful non-knowledge- that is unless you're talking Truman, et al. But, nice try.
Here's what my old mind does recall about the Clinton Years. Epic battles between the two parties on every issue. Hillarycare- where the GOP tried to get what ends up being Obamacare instead of single payer Hillary Care. Interestingly, what the Dems credit Obama for, they could have had 20 years earlier.
Then I recall many battles on budget and spending and taxes. Clinton was able to forge an agreement to raise taxes on everyone, including social security recipients (with Al Gore casting that tie breaking vote as VP), then lowering the tax rate on investment income- then lowering the tax rate on profits earned abroad by corporations when they bring the money back in.
At some later date- he was able to work with the opposition to put some tighter limits on how long a person could feed at the "safety net" trough, called welfare reform. Clinton and the GOP hated each other- but Clinton was able to work with them on enough common ground to get things done.
What is funny is how Dems run away from these concepts now- and how Obama has either failed miserably in doing this or has ben very successful in strategically shutting them out- either way- he hasn't worked well at all with GOP. I would suggest he has been the least successful of any President in bipartisan works. You and whom can argue with that- but I find it funny that you would link yourseelf so tightly with whom. She doesn't seem to have a lot on the ball. What is your argument? Than Clinton didn't work with the GOP, or is it that Obama has had a lot more success working with them than I credit him for? Can't wait to hear this.
Right democrats run away and in other news rusty just repeats GOP lies and his posts are not meant to be factual or even in the realm of reality. You know rusty you repeat GOP lies and distortions so often no one believes a word you post. As seen in your bad rewrite of the Clinton presidency.
Tex- you may be right about my memory- I forgot to add NAFTA to the list of working together examples with Clinton and the GOP. On this front- though, I have to give Obama credit as well. He has worked with the GOP on Panama, Columbia and South Korea FTAs, has worked with them on opening Myranmar, and most important- has opened Russia to trade from the USA by naming them a Most Favored Trade Nation.
To tell you the truth I never thought alot of clinton after signing NAFTA into law. Or after he signed the away the Glass-Steagle act. Both were terrible laws that have done major damage to this country. IMHO.
Sounds like you should be happy that Obama and the GOP haven't worked together? What is the carp about?
This is Communism, this is not America, the land of the free. Shame on the Republicans, they make me soooooooo sick.
Definition of Communism:a system of social organization in which all economic and social activity is controlled by a totalitarian state dominated by a single and self-perpetuating political party.
I'll simplify it for you. YOU OWN NOTHING. I think you have it backwards. Obama wants colonialism destroyed, by the wishes of his drunken father. Which means give the dead beat a paycheck from the creative small businessman. And take the U.S. into a third world nation.
Oh boy a loony racist gee who would have guessed that this guy believes in that long debunked nonsense.
Whom, thats the same teabagger that thinks the Dems have been doing all the filibustering in the senate. 'Better to keep your mouth shut and have everyone think your an idiot than to open it and remove all doubt'.
John in Texas-3114519- Now your a moron. Filibustering, So what your saying the GOP House and Senate did all the filibustering. Now I know your a cooc. Both of you are. Go away little man. Try not getting your information from the Huffington Post.
Re: #11.5
The GOP House passed no serious jobs bills. Only Senators can filibuster.
The Huffington Post is a good source of information, so is the Congressional Budget Office, Bureau of Labor Statistics and many others with actual real data.
I suggest you try them instead of ........ where DO you get your information?.......

I am a 56 year old white ma
le and I want to say that Nina Turner is my idol. You go girl.
Interesting you feel the need to let everyone know you are white? Quite something that a black girl could be your idol, huh?
Is this really a question??
We know they stole Ohio in 2004, then killed several people to cover up the Vote Theft.
I hope that the voters will not let these guys get away with this BS, cause if they do whose votes will be cancelled out next?
Isn't it strange that Ohio and other states just like them are all the sudden concerned about voter fraud? I sure as hell do. We all know what's happening and why don't we? Its the GOP's way to sway the vote there way, of course it isn't going to work not now or ever, it just shows us how our America is from time to time. I believe if your a good American you will stand up no matter what party inwhich you belong and let the cowards know its just down right wrong. If this race was between two white people it wouldn' t even be an issue and we all know this. I for one will do what I can do to stop this kind of dirty thing. How would it feel if we lived in another country who doesn't give there people the right to vote because they want the election to go one way and one way only?? this is what is happening in 2012, this is suppose to be America not some backward country. Lets stop this dirty happening now..

Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted’s recent decision to prohibit early voting on nights and weekends in all districts has many concerned about the effect on voter turnout in the state, particularly among low-income and minority communities. But one Republican Party chairman is content to suppress votes among this vulnerable demographic. Doug Preisse, chairman of the Republican Party in Franklin County, which contains the city of Columbus, admitted in an email to the Columbus Dispatch that black voters would now have a more difficult time voting:
Preisse was one of the board of elections members who blocked Democratic efforts in Franklin County to expand voting hours to evenings and weekends. According to the Dispatch, he called claims of unfairness “bull@!$%#. Quote me!”
Preisse also served on Newt Gingrich’s leadership team in Ohio during the primary and is a top political consultant to Ohio governor John Kasich (R).
In 2008, 48 percent of early voters in Franklin County voted on nights or weekends. The Secretary of State has defended the move to cut hours across the state by pointing to his initiative sending absentee ballots to every registered voter. But according to a study by Northeast Ohio Voter Advocates, black voters and Democrats prefer to cast their ballots in person, with 13.3 percent of black Ohioans casting early ballots in 2008 compared to just 8 percent of white voters.
Secretary of State Husted most recently suspended two Democratic members of the Montgomery County Election Board for voting to allow weekend voting in spite of the directive to restrict hours.

In states with reduced voting hours and reduced early voting days, is it possible to organize an effort to encourage businesses to allow employees extra PAID time-off to vote?
Ohio voters may also cast absentee ballots in person prior to Election Day through their local county board of elections. For the vast majority of voters, the early in-person voting period begins 35 days before the day of an election and ends at 6 p.m. the Friday before the election.
If you can't get your vote cast within this window of time, you probably don't need to vote.
If cutting voting hours in Ohio is a partsian ploy to manipulate the outcome, then this should be stopped! Every citizen should be allowed to vote at any time up to when the polls officialy close, period! However, what reason is given for doing this?
I am surprised there has not been a call for an economic boycott in OH, PA and FL. Hit the businesses in their pocket and they will but the pressure have voting hours and days restored. This needs be an across the board with boycott with business only done with minority owned local businesses. the only except would be for the purchase of the food and perscription drugs.
Since Tea Party/ Republicans feel so strongly about doing what our Country's founders wanted maybe we should only allow white male property owners to vote since that was the rule in 1776 and after.
We all know Democrats make a lot of assumptions about people and they tend to put every one into their little boxes. In this case it appears they believe the poor and minorities are not capable of understanding and complying with voter laws. It is as if they are saying Blacks and Hispanics are less intelligent than Whites.
So now, on the Friday before the Republican Convention, Mitt goes back to "birther" claims! This will, I am sure, please his base and help assure that his vote count among African-Americans will remain statistically insignificant. We certainly see how he will "bring the Country together"!
Hey Ed heads...dems...have you heard the latest:
***Hollywood bailing on President Obama and the Democratic National Convention***
Looks like Clooney and all of the rest have turned their back on Obama. Hilarious. They realized he has lied to them and the love affair is over.
Also, did you see the video of Anderson Cooper putting Debbie Whatshername Schlitz in her place. She was lying, misquoting the Times to send out here lying email about Romney. Even though Anderson is on the left...he stated he just could not sit by as a news reporter and watch her do this despicable act. Watch Debbie lie and lie and lie in this video.
I think you lefties are getting really desperate here. Right will prevail. About 70 days left and Mr. Obama will get his walking papers. What a day that will be.
Johnny- was watching CNN this morning. A lib did admit that with the stated goal to close deficit by $4T, to do it by taxing those who make over $250k,they would have to do a 100% tax for 4 years.
the law should lock up any lawmakerin this country that block anyone from voting<<>> dam dam dam. i thought that why i sever my country???
Nope you served to protect corporations interests over seas to protect their profits, the republicans wrapped it up in a flag and sold it to citizens that it was about their freedoms. While you were over their fighting for corporate interests the republicans were busy stripping rights away from We The People and giving corporations citizenship rights.
exactly what rights did the republicans strip away from the people and when- and even if that is the case- then why did not President Obama restore them in the first two years of his term- or if this happend prior to President Carter- why didn't he restore them or if happended prior to President Clinton- why didn't he restore whatever "rights" were stripped?
Well mr ST54<<<>>> you would not understand so it would be hard to get though your head--- but have you ever lost anything. No" try losting the right to VOTE than you sir may understand
Gee I guess someone fell into a coma in 2000. As well as failing civics class.
Let people vote. Don't cheat...
Let legally registered citizens vote!
just saying...
Still havent grasped the whole 'Requiring ppl to pay for and ID constitutes a poll tax which is unconstitutional' thing, have you Stormtrooper.
Just say'in...LOL
Tex, do you think there should be any control over who votes? I assume you do, and if so, what control would you accept?
Rusty Why does this Voter ID issue have to come up now? Right before the Presidential Election? If it is so rampant in OUR Country, How many actual cases have been prosecuted? In the state of PA. it was admitted that Voter fraud was NOT a problem. Here in WI, it was brought to the court's, Ryan get's chosen for VP and now our Atty. Gen JB van Hollen is all of a sudden asking our State Supreme Court to decide the issue before the election, It was not even in the news since the ruling, How convienent. Why if there is or has to be a Voter ID law, Why can't it be decided or taken care of during a Non election cycle? Because it isn't a real problem.
Sarge, I really don't know. As you are aware, I am much more pragmatist than dogmatic. I just wonder what sort of control tex would support? Or you? I guess I understand that to do about anything, I need identification, so I'm curious asto why people think that would be a big detriment to voting. But, if it is, then so be it. But, then, what is the solution? Do we just let people wander in, asked if they are who they say they are, then let them vote? What if you show up to vote, and the clerk says you already voted, but you haven't? Someone walked in and said their name was sarge? Is there any level of control you would accept?
To me it is the timing, WE talked about it at work yesterday and the same question came up, WHY Now. WHY not in a non election year? That is what everyone that I have talked to is saying, AS for a level of control yes I am open to hear that, and collectively come up with a solution, But as I wrote, The timing of this is rotten and WE all know that.
Well, as to the timing, it's been on these blogs as a complaint for I'd guess over a year. Election cycles are constant. In Illinois, our legislators are allowing our economic aspects to sink further because they decided it was an election year and thus a poor time to address any issues. Anyway, our bond rating is soon to be downgraded to junk status. But, the timing is poor...
The kind we have now and has working just fine on alleged voter fraud.
Yes that would be bad but by an act of divine providence you already have to show ID to vote. Where can you just walk i get a ballot ow? Where's the fraud. If you can just walk into a polling place and get a ballot no questions asked then how does voter registration work in the first place? What would be the point of registering if that were the case? This idea just falls flat on its face as totally illogical.
These voter id laws would not prevent all or perhaps potentially most of the miniscule amount of voter fraud that exists now. These laws do not create the need for some form of identification you have to show id to vote now. So this whole idea that you can vote without any kind of id now or that anyone thinks you shouldn't be a citizen to vote. These laws are about taking away accepted forms of id, the bills, or student/college id, and others that have pretty much always been allowed. So what has that resulted in? Virtually no fraud so explain why we need these laws now.
Fact is they are not needed. Now lets be clear no one on either side of this debate wants to remove all id requirements to vote. No one. Don't forget that. What this is about is how they want you to show forms of id you've never before had to show while invalidating forms of id you've always been able to show. Since this hurts, or makes voting more difficult don't you atleast think there should be a significant fraud problem if we really need them now? There's almost no fraud so we have plenty of time to develop stratagies that will work and/or improve without making it harder to vote. We've got plenty of time to do this right since there is no crisis.
Then there's the wacko parts....what does rolling back early voting have to do with it, how is it that this is supposed to stop fraud without even talking about absentee ballots. Seriously if you're not checking the absentee ballots you're not serious on fraud.
No one has a real solution but one is out there and the fact that there's no fraud means that we've got plenty of time to find it, to find ways that will not disenfranchise so many. Until there is widespread fraud shown today there is no reason to touch voting laws at all. This is a solution to non-existent problem
I understand your points. Again- I'm not advocating any change- just trying to understand. Interesting that in my own experience, I walk into the polls, wait in line, and give my name to the polling officials (whom I rarely know). Usually, they get my name wrong and I point to it on the sheet. They give me a slip of paper to sign, and hand me a ballot. I've never even thought about it before- but it seems like it would be ripe for fraud- and especially when looking more to somewhere like Chicago versus downstate Illinois where I live. I can't remember ever doing any identification beyond signing in.
Yes and how does your name appear there on the sheet before hand? They'd kmow whether you're registered or not. Even so the point is that you can show your id, student id, significant financial statement under these laws you really can't.
I don't know what your situation is but I've never seen anyone not have to declare their identity in some way to vote. To pull off that fraud you'd have to know all the registered voters in the district, ascertain who is more likely not to vote because two of you at the same polling place in a day isn't going to work, then you'd need some fact id which would have to bought or made.....or you'd have to have a new official organization type id and you wouldn't be able to get a government id unless you had their birth certificate and/or their social security number and if you have that there's no reasonable way to stop you in any case.....so you'd have to figure out the school or whatever this person goes to and find out whether they'd by willing to issue you another id over the phone becuase the school is almost certainly going to have your original id image on e-file....that means you'd have to be their twin or look a lot like them which means you'd have to find a voter who you share physical similarites to making the whole selection process even more difficult......
awful lot of work to do to illegal cast one vote........and if that does result in some fraud I don't think we can be all that mad at the state for that because if someone is willing to jump through all these whoops there's probably going to be no stopping them. Someone that determined will not be stopped. If after all that ya know it isn't the government's fault there's only so much that they can and should do. There is due diligence and paranoia. No matter what some will always slip through the cracks and so you just have to let it go if it's not a lot, you've done all you can.
Well, they never check ID at all. I know this was 52 years ago, and I would agree the best person for the job won, but that is exactly how JFK beat Nixon. Chicago machine had names of dead, registered people. Lots voted from the grave, and it gave him a slim margin. I would suggest it could still happen in Illinois. We're not the cleanest from a political aspect. But Chicago will vote 3:1 for the democrat and downstate will vote 2:1 for the republican. Dems take Illinois. Unless Reagan runs again.
