How did MSNBC's political panel reacted to Paul Ryan's convention speech? The short answer: not well.
- Chris Matthews: "I don't think Paul Ryan tried to unify America today, I think he tried to use the divisions in America, economically, to advance the cause of the better-off people who don't want to be taxed, and the upper middle class who thinks the benefits will come to them, and basically ignored the bottom half of this country."
- Al Sharpton: "The fact is that Ryan very eloquently misled people. He walked out of the debt commission. He lied about the plant in his hometown. It was closed at the end of '08 when Bush was president, not under Obama. So if you want to have an eloquent person that does not tell the truth, this was a great performance."
- Ed Schultz: "He got after the Medicare, he got after the stimulus package—although he forgot to mention that he requested stimulus funds in his backyard. He also forgot to mention that his mother took a public bus to go to a state school, to get back into this economy when his family ran into adversity."
- Rachel Maddow: "I think the Democrats are gonna beat Paul Ryan and Mitt Romney with old people on Medicare, because I don't think they came up with an actual fact-based rejoinder to their biggest weakness with Paul Ryan."
- Chris Hayes: "It was ironic, this theme of nostalgia. Even though he's the young face of the conservative movement, the theme of nostalgia plays out, talking about, 'back when I was waiting tables or I was in college, we had this different kind of America than we have now.' And the question is, what exactly has changed?"

We need more DEMS To tell the TRUTH about these bastards!!!!
I love how ed called Scott Walker out
Yes that was great work!! Me too!! I agree...
Democrats hide from the truth
@bcb50; Republicans make up the truth.
IF MITT Shows his taxes...I May VOTE FOR HIMMMMM!!!!!
THAT WON'T HAPPEN.
Why waste your time Sherry. Even if he did, your vote would probably end up being a wasted vote.
Why? Will that fix the problems we have in Washington? Will that put food on the table? I don't care what Obama paid in taxes either. Dems had a majority and instead of keeping the promise to FIX what Bush left they only made it worse.
That is all that I am interested in... Why did you not FIX it? You said you would and you did not... Why don't you FOCUS on that instead?
Chris Mathews was brilliant in his analysis. Of course, it always helps when I totally agree with him. ☺ All in all, MSNBC was truely phenomenal tonight - superb presentations by each commentator and guest. Thank you!
It's amazing how many outright lies can be told to an ignorant audience and they eat it up!! Swallowing it whole, kind of like the right wing agenda set forth by Akin about Legitimate Rape. The power of subliminal messages added to our going to war in the first place in Iraq unilaterally per the Bush Administration costing us lives, and what's the highest debt in human history, and they are trying to do the simple bait and hook tactics that Obama spent more money then they would of. The funny thing is that good ole Ryan, voted for that policy and the bailouts of GM, with the cutting up of medicare as a way to privatize it. How wild? And the GOP Delegates ate it up!!! What is America coming to these days? We can't have those right wing tea party cronies running our country in 2012, vote Democrat this November!!!
This what is written about your candidate, You're the one being brainwashed! The whole dumocratic party
"Obama learned his lesson well. I am proud to see that my father's model for organizing is being applied successfully beyond local community organizing to affect the Democratic campaign in 2008. It is a fine tribute to Saul Alinsky as we approach his 100th birthday." --Letter from L. DAVID ALINSKY, son of Neo-Marxist Saul Alinsky
Oh please... Mathews is an idiot. By the way in Obama's book he writes about "Frank" his mentor... How many of you out there in Dems land knows that "Frank" is Frank Marshall Davis a CARD CARRYING COMMUNIST... That was not written by anyone else than the President in his book. Davis was a writer for communist newspapers... and this was his mentor? Why isn't anyone saying anything about that?
@bcb50 @SFlaMom. Both of you illustrate my point perfectly. Did you bother to fact check the sources of these so-called facts that you cite? I did, and both have been solidly discredited for both factual inaccuracies and for having a bias. Did you actually read the Obama book or are you relying on something you heard or read on Fox News?
How can you presume to have superior information when you allow yourselves to be spoon fed because you like what you hear, instead of trying to be sure what you are hear is accurate? I am assuming you are both intelligent, moral people. Aren't you interested in knowing the actual facts or do you just want to hurl brickbats?
Ryan couldn't be the young face of a bowl movement, even though he is a bulls--tting liar.
Ryan's speech was very negative and filled with misleading comments and outright lies. The GOP is counting on a voter that's not checking all the accusations made to look like facts. The most positive speech in the convention was from Condoleezza Rice who remained upbeat and positive. She didn't engage in Obama-bashing like the rest of the troops did.
Here Here!!! Vote Democrat this November!!
Speeches were better tonite than last nite! Thought Huckerbee was very nasty especially since he doesn't even like Romney ( what's he looking for?) Rice was very eloquent but of course she was vauge, doesn't seem like her & Romney are on the same page when it comes to immigration. Ryan gave a rip roaring speech that was full of lies and misconceptions exactly what the entire Romney-Ryan campaign is! Funny how politics & a big ego can make a man disregard all of his own convictions to be the # 2 man! Hope someday he can explain that to his children when they realize that he taught them one thing yet did the opposite! " Do as I say not as I do"! Both in life & religion! ( " Thou shalt not LIE") Being a Catholic sure hope he plans on making a stop at a church to go to confession while he is campaigning over the week end!
What lies are you referring to? It's easy to accuse someone of lying, state the facts to back up your statement.
I guarantee that Ryan can back up everything he stated.
Here's some genuine facts for you bcb50
www dot huffingtonpost dot com/huff-wires/20120830/us-cvn-gop-convention-fact-check/
Are you kidding the huffington post? That is where you get info from.... don't make me laugh.... no really stop it hurts.. hahahahahaha
@SFlaMom; Did you even look at the post? The byline clearly states the writers of the article are from the Associated Press: “Associated Press writers Tom Raum, Andrew Taylor, Henry C. Jackson and Bradley Klapper contributed to this report” from HuffPo web. Do you have a problem with AP too? Well then here are more cites:
I could go on but you get the point. Suffice it to say there are scads more references out there. Do you have the courage to fact check your views or do you prefer to continue on in blissful ignorance?
bcb50
I would like to see the facts on all the statements that Ryan made show me and all these people on here
Go at it buddy!
The two political parties are money raising shells. Neither has a leader—they do not inspire, nor do any of them have a clue what to do. Good ship Mother earth is leaderless. I am an independent write-in candidate. I bring to the table a Vehicle for World Peace. Have a test drive.

The two political parties are money raising shells—their promotion, liars in public places. The republican debates were a mixture of American Idol, Jeopardy and Musical Chairs, the contestants auditioning for world leader.
Winners (Obama and Romney) do not leaders make. The country is going to sit out the election as neither of the anointed has a clue what to do. They do not inspire. I'm a write-in candidate. I bring to the table a work of art lettered in design to perform whirled wide, for all the world's peoples to participate in together all at once. Test drive the Vehicle for World Peace.

I think Paul Ryan is a bright man, maybe even a brilliant man, and I respect his right to his beliefs. That said I am increasingly troubled by how he blithely tramples on the true facts, using innuendo, distortions and even telling outright lies in his every speech. Ryan's not the only one, it happens in both parties, not in equal measure nor equally extreme, but it's true that they both do it. Many, if not most analysts who take note of this practice of distorting and outright lying, gloss over it, unperturbed, excusing it is a strategy necessary to win.
How is that it the people of this great nation have become so accepting of what we are told by politicians, believing without question that we are getting the real facts, so long as they are making points that we agree with?? We, all of us, have looked the other way as this disgraceful practice has increasingly become the standard for winning elections. Now, this attractive, clean cut, wholesome looking family man can look earnestly into the camera and tell lie after lie after lie and cap it off, even as he declares his contempt for his opponent's dishonesty, swearing to us all that we deserve to be told the truth and vowing that when we choose him, we can count on him to tell us the truth.
Has the voting public all become sheep? Really? Really?
The definition of brilliance sure has changed if simply making up things and glossing over other things is considered a component of it.
Just one more GOP con man.
@jjm; You miss the point. I never implied that either of those proved Ryan's brilliance. Fact is those merely demonstrate how cleverly he can manipulate facts to his advantage. It is possible that he can be brilliant and also conniving, manipulative, and dishonest. Neither of these traits is mutually exclusive. History, in fact, is filled with examples of people who have "evil genius".
If I wasn't clear before, let me be clear now; I think his speech last night amply demonstrated the conniving, manipulative, pandering, dishonest side of him. All of these reflect more about his character than his intelligence.
It is clear that the Republican strategy is to lie about their policies (which Ryan did so deftly last night) and suppress the voters in just the right key counties. To propagate their lies they have over $500 million from just four sources alone (Adelman,Koch,Rove and Chamber of Commerce) for their vicious 'Super-Pacs'. With the main stream media letting them get away with it, we may be witnessing the final closing of American Democracy and the complete ascension of American Corporatocracy.
Of course not. Lyin' Ryan and Mitt the Twit have no interest in unifying America.
BTW...didn't Lyin' Ryan use a teleprompter last night?
So, what about it, republicans/conservatives/teabaggers? Can't your "leaders" give a speech without using a teleprompter?
Paul Ryan you may be hard of body but you have a soft mind. I would love to slap that arrogant grin off your smug little chimp face with your monkey widows peak. It is a nasty lying disconnected bunch of POS 's we are dealing with so hunker down and get ready because the monkeys have learned to throw their poop at us instead of eating it themselves . Good news it washes off and in 70 days they can start flinging it at each other again
What debate could you win other than the perpetuating lying bull@!$%# debate. You would also win the choice of what hand to pull your pud with debate . It wouldn't make any difference just like your lying ass hole party It amuses me that this site will allow ass-hole but blur bull@!$%# ,probably a Reflublican nosy jerk off pushing the censor button when nothing anyone could say could be as offensive as the Reflublican party
To Robert Moscato please a bowl movement would be an upgrade on that little @!$%#'s face. I wish it were the last days of Christ again and we could find a comfortable cross to put this @!$%# heel up on
