It was entertaining. I enjoyed it for that. I stopped watching the main events because they were so "staged," narrow or dishonest. (Just about all of our forefathers went through the same trials that the keynote speeches mentioned. Those were the times for everyone.) Anyway, I've always been a fan of Clint and his no nonsense characters. I guess I didn't weigh the political aspects of it. His age is showing and he dropped a few "stitches." In context of the entire convention, everything seemed like a farce to me.
It was funny in some spots, but not necessary.... I would guard against making to much of it... just to create a narrative......
What kind of answers are you posting to choose from? Please review the question and then take a hard look at the selection you provide. Clint was great. He stuck it to you a....holes big time. Sure he's old and doesn't come across like he used to. But he was spot on with BO failures.
get real. he completely disagrees with everything Romney supposedly stands for. He's pro choice, anti war, pro gay rights etc... He slammed republicans more than the president on policy.
O say it ain't so Joe! LMAO! Clint was a disaster! You need to "take a hard look" at the video! (Hint - it's on youtube already!) The whole damn convention was a disaster! I think Clint was an Obama plant, a brilliant strategy by Axelrod - had to be! Who the hell leads up to the candidate with a blathering old man who DISAGREES with the candidate and the party on all of the big issues??? Clint has made no secret of the fact that he's (a) Pro choice, (b) Pro marriage equality, (c) Anti war and last night (d) anti lawyers in the White House! Doood, WHO DOES THAT? LMAO! The only thing he was able to successfully show he has in common with R-MONEY is the one thing the GOP tries to down play - THEY'RE RICH WHITE MEN! O gawd, the irony of that whole chair talking business is priceless! Love it! It's ok Joe to say you're embarrassed, you should be! LOL! Ay ya yi! Talking to a chair, who does that?! LOL!
Joe, Joe you are so slow.. There was so little of worth to say about whats his name?? that the poor old Clint had to end up talking to a chair and making little if any sense. Most watching do believe he had a few before wandering out on stage. We had days and days of speeches and speakers and most either forgot to mention Romney or just mentioned him in passing. It's like a group trying to tear down a good President just because he is not your kind. This is how it is, you keep saying we want to elect Romney for President, we ask you "why him" and you just keep saying ,like a bad kid wanting to do the wrong thing, "just because". Joe boy that is not good enough, even an old actor could not make that work for you. By Clint's ridiculous performance and Romney's flat speech they made my day.
Old man yelling at an imaginary Obama is an ironically accurate picture of the GOP.
ROFL!! There much truth in those words!
Eastwood has never done stage work that I know of, and as an actor, he is known for drama and action. It's pretty obvious that he was speaking extemporaneously with no prepared remarks. Why anyone thought it was a good idea for him to go before a national audience right before the nominee and do prop comedy off the cuff is mind-boggling. Politically, it's a small disaster for the GOP, for the simple reason that everyone is talking about Eastwood rather than Romney this morning.
"Politically, it's a small disaster for the GOP, for the simple reason that everyone is talking about Eastwood rather than Romney this morning."
Not only that, but his remarks aimed at the president were intended to demean and denigrate him, so for the GOP to allow this to happen on the very night they're supposedly trying to reach moderates and independents was just flat stupid. This so-called billion dollar campaign has been nothing but one stupid thing after another.
What we have learned from the RNC:
Republicans believe most whites hate the poor, seniors, children and disabled who are black
Convince white Americans that blacks are the majority receipients of medicaid and welfare
And most liberal whites will not care about the white poor, seniors, children and disabled(who are really the majority receipient)
Because the average white person of any elk hate black people
"A Hungry Beast when he smells a weak heart will eat his own parents"
And the Romney/Ryan/RNC Klan is very hungry!
Pray that people vote compassion and not racism, for the cost will be great as a nation.
Idiot. Too much MTV. It's people like you that keep us in the dark ages. Rascism is perpetuated by people like you. Stop.
Actually, SocialBo, racism is perpetuated by people who are racist (And, surprise, there still are a lot of racists).
I dont care what political persuasion you are Eastwoods act was insulting to the presidency. Respect the office at least if you dont like the man
He has overshadowed the convention and embarrassed a lot of people who had their kids stay up to watch it.
I always liked his acting , but this was bad. All the people and what they were going to say were pre reviewed by the Romney people . What were they thinking ?
What you aren't understanding (aster-3534305) is that Obama has disrespected the office of the President the entire time he's been in office.
Eastwood is just telling the truth.
What I thought for awhile and I'm serious was great actor and director in
his early stages of Alzheimer's. Talking to chair how crazy can that be
Clint Eastwood did not do his image any good .
Show a little respect ... Clint Eastwood deserves better ... he has entertained us for years ... let it go people.
And, what speech did you listen to that you came away with Romney hates poor people, old people and people of race ... that is not what he said.
For the sake of our country and all people, give our leaders a chance ... be open to the changes that are coming. Be supportive of the people we elect and quit trying to destroy them. If we all work together we can find the better way!

Give me a break. Have you not been listening for the last year? Except for the point Taajq made about how "the average white person hates blacks" which I vehemently disagree with, he pretty much nailed it. This IS the GOP agenda, to pit everyone against all minorities and the LGBT community with their code words and race baiting. One only has to start back at the primaries to see all the red meat thrown at the people. Do you think it's some big coincidence that the GOP has completely lost the African-American and LGBT vote, and very nearly lost the Hispanic vote and women's vote? I was sitting night before last watching the R convention and what comes on but an anti-immigrant commercial paid for by the RNC. Do they appear to be really trying to reach out to minorities? No, they're appealing to their largely uneducated white base, those who revel in the "fun" of hating and bigotry. They plan to GUT the social services system out of existence, so we're supposed to glean from that that they care about the elderly and poor? You can't work with a party hell bent on destroying the fabric of life for huge segments of the population. Be open to the changes? Which changes are those? The ones where we have a country full of people begging for food because the GOP decided no one is worthy of food stamps? The elderly wandering the streets because the GOP decided Medicaid/Medicare's help with the elderly should be shut down?
While the sentiment of your post is admirable, it's not practical. Not with *this* GOP. This is not the GOP we've known for decades. Thankfully, we're starting to see signs of a couple of the GOP leaders who have figured this out. Now they just have to figure out how to rid themselves of the fringe faction responsible for it.
Wow you got it! I totally agree with almost ALL of what you said. Race baiting is in this century is so ridiculous when just about all of us are mixed with something. Minority baiting is so 1800's...we've come too far to allow these few to turn this country in a backward spin because this man feels its his turn to become President. Turn?!
plooka32, well said, sir, well said (and you spoke for me too)
I did not like Eastwood's old movies, and I don't like his recent ones.(My husband is a fan. Ugh.) I've always found them to be very self-aggrandizing, stupid, and with storylines that deliver to a very simpleton-y mindset, pretty much just shoot-'em-up fairy tales. Now I understand why he generally produces and directs his own stuff: he takes it out of his book of "EASTWOOD'S OWN VERSION OF GRIMM'S FAIRY TALES; SHOOT 'EM UP, EFF THE LAW, KILL 'EM ALL, WIN EVERY TIME."
He comes across as a festering, unlikeable, dithering boob. I hated the bedhead, and the continuous scratching at that spot at the top of his head. And what was the deal with that looking around wonderingly like he was Sally Field at the Oscars? "You like me; you really like me!" He seemed encouraged to go further and further the more demented their applause got.
Also, projecting what he would say onto what he claims the 'invisible Obama' would say just comes across as ignorant and low-rent. But it was definitely a crowd pleaser. Need I say more?
From what I've seen about how invariably courteous Obama has behaved in public toward people who have been unspeakably rude to his face, he would never, EVER have used any of those terms towards someone else, from telling Eastwood to shut up, or eff himself, or tell Romney to eff himself. This whole shtick says more about Eastwood's ability to conduct himself properly and politely in speaking publicly than anything about Obama.
To anyone really listening, of course, who wasn't bubblingly in love with circa 1978 Clint Eastwood. The shadow Clint Eastwood projected against the backdrop, the celluloid Eastwood who would never say those things to the real Barack Obama.
For my part, I think the message got lost in the messenger. But both were idiotic, so, either way, no great loss to me.
The poll question is narrow. No question about it. Clint Eastwood was funny ! funny ! funny ! It was a welcome relief.
Clint was fantastic. Obama was the receiver of the same stuff he dishes out. Democrats need to realize that the Republicans can be just as comedic. It's about time. Obama has done nothing but throw money down the tube and twist the truth. Demo's need to watch all news channels and not the biased so called MSNBC. Just look at the ratings...that's the truth!!!
Comedic? Really? heh heh heh. Yep, I agree, they are comical (which is the definition of comedic).
We should be a lot more concerned about Medicare now. Without it, we could end up speaking to empty chairs. (See thousands of internet memes mocking the bit). Ann Romney's shocked expression was priceless. The disrespect to a sitting President was disappointing, making the backdrop for Clint, "The Outlaw Josey Wales", quite fitting.
Is it just me or is every 1 sleeping? Clint Eastwood isn't the issue , Watch the Movie 2016. if you havent , U need 2 This America is what is in store for our future. Gaurantee the hair on your necks will stand up, Wake up Call for real! Sure changed my vote. Enough said.
Clint may a racial gesture, talking to an empty chair late at night implying Obama is to dark to be seen.
Another note, Romney's mother got a rose from her husband every day. That must made Ann Romney feels really good, what did she get from her $250 million husband every day ?
That movie Obama 2016 is a propaganda p.o.s. that has been put out there by the rich far right divide & conquer machine! They had radio shows back when we were at war with Vietnam & Korea, then again during the WW wars. They had propaganda radio to feed b.s. to those they were against, telling lies & forcing prisoners to read statements after torturing them or threaten to kill someone if they didn't. Compassionate people are easy to manipulate that way, when you threaten another persons life.
Since television, there's been all sorts of propaganda stuff that tries to influence people one way or another. Only this time it's more personal, it's not someone with some outside agenda, it's Americans that are trying to manipulate & terrorize Americans.
It isn't new, though many of us hoped that we'd put that sort of hate & violence behind us. There have always been those that think they are better than other people, for what ever reason & are arrogant enough to think that their view of the world is the one everyone needs to follow, that they are above the law & they are untouchable because of their status & station.
Same sort of crap used to happen in Europe ages ago - the elitist aristocracy would hold themselves above all - doing what ever they wished, to whoever they wanted to. The thought of accountability, persecution was alien to them, they were doing only what they believed was their right. The poor, those beneath them were nothing, they had no value unless it was given.
We are coming dangerously close to losing out country, Corporations are now legally people - they have no morals, soul or conscience & yet they are allowed to not only pour an unlimited amount of money into elections, they can lobby to keep things hidden & influence legislation in their favor.
People normally can't buy a congressmen or an election. Now more than ever we don't really matter to the GOP - they get more money from one wealthy funded PAC than they would from regular people.
Try looking at who funded that movie, who's distributing it and really look at the facts that are in it. Most of the accusations are NOT validated - it's twisted, opinionated, unverified & lacks the basis of proof. This is pure political propaganda fantasy to spoon feed those that are too lazy to do their own research or verify the facts. This movie has already been reviewed a number of times by a number of people - try reading some of them.
We the citizens of this nation are standing on a large rug - our votes will be the last chance we have to keep it under us or allow the far side to pull it out from under us.
Ask yourself who is helping people, getting them medical care & access to insurance, who is trying to create more jobs here to repair our infrastructure, who is trying to increase the ability for students to improve & continue their education?
Who has blocked every jobs bill, voted over 30 times to end health benefits & add to the deficit, who has voted to take rights away from women, who's talked about ending min. wage, child labor laws as well as medicare/medicaid & safety net programs for the disabled, seniors, kids, working poor & unemployed, who wants to cut taxes for the wealthiest & make the people pay for it?
One wants us to work together for a better future & the other wants to take us back a couple hundred years in social progress while allowing the Corporate elite aristocrats to do as they like, including destroying the environment, economy & the health of the people, all in the name of grossing huge profits.
I know what I'm voting for... do you really know what you're voting for?
Clint is too old to understand (or may be not) that he made a racial gesture on TV. Talking to an empty chair at late night implying Obama is too dark to be seen.
Another note, Ann Romney must felt really....really good after Mitt's speech. His mother got a rose every day from his father, what did she get from her $250 million husband every day !
Eastwood's senile stunt was impertinent and offensive. Donald Trump had planned a similar stupid performance. Heaven knows, that might have been more disastrous because he seems hung up with Kenya and birth certificates. Maybe, it is time we demand Trumps marriage certificates and the tax returns he promised to release if Obama releases his birth certificate.
whew! at least we can finally stop
asking, "where are the clowns?" no worries, they are now all gathered
inside one big red tent. need any of them to perform at your next lawn party?
just submit your request to the ringmaster, eastwood.
wasn't it lovely? can't you just
wait for this company of performers to go around the world, presenting this
road-show as the true face of all americans? can't you now take pride in who it
is that claims they are qualified to speak for the rest of us, as their
circus-train makes whistle-stops across the other continents?
a full contingent of LYING LIARS on
the move. a sensational act indeed. don't forget to make room in your budget
for the cost of your ticket --- a million or two should cover it.
republicans just don't get it. or
they only pretend to misunderstand. either way, HOPE and CHANGE will always be
beyond their comprehension and, much more-so, their ability to implement.
we had HOPE that the hate-mongering
and racist bigotry, spawned and perpetuated by ginrich and rush bimbo, would
eventually cease for us here at home. and we longed for our good reputation
around the rest of the world to be restored --- a CHANGE back to the glory
amongst nations we once knew --- after bush succeeded at making us look like
fools on a global scale.
President Obama immediately
accomplished the second goal, with an over-abundance of intelligence, good grace,
and dignity. as for the first, the almighty white European ruling class male is
obviously not going to give up without a fight. but neither does HOPE!
... neither does hope.
I guess they figured since Eastwood could do a 2-minute commerical with numerous retakes that just handing him a stage in front of millions would produce a wonderful speech. He was AWFUL. Hair sticking up all over, stumbling around and staggering. Making reference that the President of the US should F- himself?
Just more total disrespect that we are seeing very common in this election. The more disrepect, the more the Tea Party eats it up.
My only criticism is that the chairshould have had two teleprompters
My only criticism is the chair should have had two teleprompters to make it more authentic
I like Mr Eastwood grew up watching hin rawhide and all his movies But I think the chair thing was a little crazy
Hmmmmmm.....did it overshadow Romney???? Did Romney talk??? Guess it did on my part, don't remember him at all.
I'm an Independent voter, but after seeing all the 'DISRESPECT' the Republicans have for the Office of the President (because he is Black), I will definitely swing my vote to him. I've never been so ashamed of a party like I am of the Republicans. No wonder America is in so much trouble. The HATRED is causing so many problems, and turning people like me off!
