While much has been made about former President Bill Clinton's support for President Obama, another Clinton-era leader, Madeleine Albright, is turning out to be a strong surrogate for President Obama's re-election campaign.
Albright, who served as the country's first woman Secretary of State under former President Bill Clinton, has laughed at Republican Mitt Romney's foreign policy credentials and on Monday questioned "why any woman would want to vote for Mitt Romney."
The former secretary, author, and Democrat, who is well-respected in foreign policy circles, praised President Obama's foreign policy record Tuesday in Charlotte, N.C., opening day of the Democratic National Convention.
"I think he’s doing really really well," she said on the Morning Joe set in Charlotte. "He has really regained America’s reputation abroad, made very clear where we stand and that we need partners in terms of taking care of the issues and been very decisive—commander-in-chief."
Albright also echoed a line that Vice President Joe Biden recently used in regards to the president's national security achievements. It's sure to be featured again during the Democratic convention.
"And Osama bin Laden is dead and I think that is a very important step forward," she said.
Asked what she thought of a statement from Romney earlier in the campaign in which the candidate called Russia the "No. 1 geopolitical foe" of the United States, Albright chuckled. "Well if you live in the 20th century you might believe that, but the bottom line is we’re living in the 21st century," she said. "He’s just wrong."
She also argued it was "strange" that "Gov. Romney didn’t even mention Afghanistan in his [RNC acceptance] speech while I read how many people were dying in the course of the Republican convention in Afghanistan."
Albright will speak at the National Democratic Institute's International Leaders Forum during the convention. The group, which Albright is chairman of, holds session for foreign leaders who are visiting the convention.

Madeleine Albright---You state "why would any woman want to vote for Mitt Romney" I notice you didn't say men and woman in your statement. My answer to you is, you tell me why any woman would want to vote for Barack Obama. Do you think Obama is so wonderful that the American women would grovel at his feet? You just insulted a lot of women in this country. You were the first woman to be Secretary of State under Clinton era, lady you should know of all people this world today is not like the Clinton era. Tell me something--do you salute the American flag when protocol serves? Neither Obama or Romney have talked about the conflict that we are now in. Every one uses the excuse that Bush put us there. But lady, Obama is keeping us there. If you can't see where our country is headed then you are not the smart lady you once were. Even Clinton was a better president than the one we have. How many of our soldiers, men and women, have to die in this Muslin country? How many Marines have to have their careers ruined because the president is a vain, thin skined man, that can't take criticism. Obama is hell bent on destroying our consitituion, we have little free speech left, plus more. His so called Obamacare pkg, has not have effected you at your age, but it has cost many elders of low income, including myself, are care is not good, we pay more, etc. aThis discussion could gon on foever. Niether party is God, be careful what you ask for in this election, you just might get it.
I think we would do well to reelect President Obama and get rid of the deadlock
in Congress by voting out some of the Republicans. Then President Obama would
be able to go forward with his plans, one of which was to strengthen public education (which Frankie Little should applaud since she apparently doesn't know the difference between "effect" and "affect" and her education was obviously not good). Rather than support the Republicans which means supporting wars and the industrial war complex, let's support President Obama and his plans to rebuild America's infrastructure, strengthen Social Security (into which I and my employers paid over $88,000 throughout my work life, and I was assured that that money was going to be there for me in my retirement), strengthen Medicare (which has a proven track record of lower medical costs than traditional medicine/insurance company plans). By voting for the Republicans, you are endorsing their stated agenda to end Social Security and Medicare, and why not end these critical programs? After all, the Republicans in charge/in office have all the financial security they need, they have money for their kids' private schools, they have their own private aircraft, they can well afford
their kids' college tuition at the finest schools without their children being burdened with undischargeable student loans (no need to lower interest rates on these loans for the rest of our kids (so why support our public universities?), and the list goes on and on. If you wonder about the Republican agenda to end Social Security and Medicare, read Noam Chomsky--and he says there is absolutely no reason to dismantle these programs, yet that is the stated agenda of the Republican Party. Ms. Little, you are seriously duped--and you would do well to remember that it was eight years of G. W. Bush, who became president when we had a SURPLUS in our budget, that put this country in the dire situation that existed when President Obama took office. And remember that G.W. Bush started the wars, the Republicans want to INCREASE the defense budget which is already 24% of our national budget, and President Obama has been doing his best to get us out of these wars while trying to support the countries with training for their own troops so they can hold their ground when we do
leave. But no big deal on the wars--after all, without the draft, only the kids who are from lower income families are fighting, not the rich Republicans' kids, unlike when we had a draft that took everyone (no matter how rich they were). And by the way, the quickest way to end all of our wars is to reinstitute the draft--I guarantee you, if everyone's child had no choice but to go to war, everyone would be out there demonstrating against the war and forcing an end to it, just like the old Viet Nam War days! And please understand, these servicepeople who are fighting these wars are counting on the promised government benefits to veterans to put them through school upon their return (yet how many return in any condition to go to school?). And if you elect Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan, what happens to those government benefits our soldiers are counting on? Will they go the same way as Social Security and Medicare--dismantled? And I have no doubt that had President Obama not acted quickly to avert an all-out depression, requiring attention and action which took him away from his stated agenda on which he campaigned, we would be in worse shape than we are today! How can anyone expect President Obama to fix, without any help from the Republicans (who from the outset intended to make President Obama's presidency fail), in two to four years, the problems created by G. W. Bush in eight years? After two years of hard work, the uneducated and uninformed public grew impatient that everything wasn't "fixed" and voted in Republicans (the party of "NO") to
completely tie the hands of President Obama and prevent him from creating the
change he campaigned on. Get real! This is not a TV program where everything
happens in a two-hour span. It takes years to overcome the mess that was
started by G. W. Bush. Give President Obama a chance, get your Republican Congress people to work with President Obama, to do the job that they were elected to do for ALL Americans, which is to govern for the benefit of the MAJORITY OF AMERICANS, rather than just say NO to everything in order to make President Obama a "failed, one-term president." And take a look at the tax rates back in the 50s and 60s and realize that the very wealthy should be paying more taxes, and that they only way this country is going to recover is if adequate funding is provided to govern for the benefit of all. It costs money to run a country, and history shows that most Americans enjoyed prosperity when taxes were in the 50-70% range, far above what they are today.
And the so-called “trickle-down effect” which the Republicans insist is the way to prosperity for all, has been proven NOT to work. The rich get richer, the poor (and the middle class) get poorer.
