Chicago’s public school teachers and school staff went on strike today, demanding better pay, fair teacher evaluations, and ongoing health benefits.
The strike—the first in 25 years for Chicago's schools—is one of the biggest eruptions to date of the nationwide battle to tie teacher pay to standardized testing scores. The teachers' union, which represents 26,000 teachers and staff, has been in contract negotiations since November; it is also demanding air conditioning in classrooms, more social workers, and to cap class sizes.
Gov. Mitt Romney condemned the strike on Monday. "Teachers unions have too often made plain that there interests conflict with those of our children," he said in a statement.
Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel criticized the union for what he called a "strike of choice." On The Ed Show on Monday night, Chicago teacher Phillip Cantor said the choice was the mayor’s, not the teachers.
“The teachers have been at the table since November, Mr. Emanuel has never been at the table,” Cantor, a science teacher and a strike captain, said. “It’s all been out of town lawyers doing the negotiations, I don’t think he’s been taking it seriously.”
In a last-ditch effort to avert the strike, the city offered a deal on Sunday night for a 16-percent raise over the next four years and new job opportunities for laid-off teachers. The teachers rejected the deal and continued with plans to strike. Emanuel spoke to the press late Sunday night, saying the two unresolved issues of contention in negotiations were the principal’s right to choose teachers and tying teacher’s pay to standardized testing scores.
“It’s been shown over and over in tying teacher’s pay to test score —it’s not valid, it doesn’t work. A lot of teachers vary from year to year,” Cantor said. “We know that the teacher isn’t the one that’s changing at that point, there are so many outside factors.” The district is 90 percent low-income students.
Despite the continued battles and the massive city-wide distruption, teachers say they’re striking for the future of the students.
“When you’ve been in a classroom with 41 kids when it’s 95 degrees for weeks at a time, you know [Chicago Public Schools] doesn’t put kids first,” Cantor said.

hows that democracy working for obama?.....
How is democracy working for You? Obama hopes you will work for America.
Apparently, it doesn't work for the Republicans. They're trying to stop people they don't like from voting.
Another worthless tea bagged republican post, the Koch brothers should fire you for worthless nonsense.
I don't understand why people feel all the striking teachers should be fired. Without the unions workers have no way of demanding fair pay, benefits or good working conditions. Those teachers are on strike NOT JUST for their pay. They are striking to get REASONABLE and MANAGEABLE class size, to benefit the students. They are striking to get updates to the buildings with basic amenities like AIR CONDITIONING. Do you realize how hot it gets in Chicago? Imagine being in an old building on the third floor with nothing but a small window to open and a fan and over 40 kids in your class. They don't want to strike. They want people to listen to their basic needs and concerns long before they walk that line. This was not an overnight "Oh hey. Lets go on strike tomorrow." This was a long process. Good luck to all you teachers out there walking that line! I for one am behind you.
I wonder how managing an enterprise is working for the consummate liberal, Emanuel? Lots easier to make firery speeches and pass laws regarding others.
Education is a difficult topic. I will play devils advocate in the beginning.
Since costs are getting so high to teach kids let's:
1. Make parents teach the kids more at home. Require parents under law to teach their kids Math, Science, English and History and then pass a state exam for general knowledge as defined by the state.
2. Lower the pay of teachers so that only the worst ones will take the jobs and maybe even lax the standards a little so that we can reach the bottom of the barrel. Then let's put requirements on the teacher that forces the teacher to plug into the kids heads and force knowledge down the kids throats even if they do not want to learn. Force the kids to pay attention and absorb everything. If they don't learn, give them adderall for their ADD. Now they will learn. Next force them to take the state exam.
Now if the student does not learn, then both the teacher and the parents are responsible and both can face jail time or the loss of their kids by DCFS.
COME ON PEOPLE! Teachers do so much and bring work home as well and you do not think they deserve a decent living wage in Chicago where the price of everything is higher? If you do not want to teach your own kids and be required to have your kids pass an exam, then you better pay teachers properly and tell your kids to learn as much as possible. If you Chicago or any other people out there do not push education on your kids, it is just as much your fault for your kids being idiots as it is the system. Maybe it is more the parents fault since the parents are pretty big role models for their kids. So if there is something wrong with your kid, then there is something wrong with YOU AS PARENTS as well. YOU need to provide your kids a better role model.
Just because YOU as a parent are not doing your job, do not expect a teacher to do all of YOUR work too. IF that is the case, then the teachers should be paid a LOT more.
Do you people that are against teachers even care about the future of this society, or have you just given up? Education is our only weapon against poverty and the ultra rich from turning us all into a low wage labor force.
To all of you parents out there that don't care about an education,...YOU ARE IDIOTS.
I teach in college, but I do not have to since I can make 3 times more in industry or much more running my business full time. So why do I teach? To help the kids of today be the leaders and inventors of tomorrow.
Ed - Why is your dumbass not in Chicago helping Unions? Maybe because there both Democrats? HYPOCRITE! After all a 40% graduation rate is stellar is it not?
Gee Bill, your saying their striking for a 35% pay increase, where did you pull that number from?
@Billyhill, You obviously provided your kids a good role model as a parent. You have to realize that not all parents are good role models and some kids do not even have a father or mother that cares.
Personally, I think teachers should be paid more than the average salary. The average salary for a college educated person is higher than $48k and it should be. If those of us who choose to go to school would make less than someone un-educated working in a factory, then what is the reason to get educated? There has to be incentives to learn more than hammering nails since almost anyone can hammer a nail, but not everyone can get a degree in Math or a hard science. To me, without a good education you will live in ignorance unless you have the drive to learn on your own, but you cannot get that piece of paper that says you know the material.
I also personally would not mix religion with the hard sciences because most religions believe in creationism and not evolution. I believe it is time to put those old concept religious books to rest and realize that those who wrote those books came from a time when they had no idea that there was this huge universe around us. Heck, they put Galileo in prison because he said that the Earth revolved around the Sun and religion could not tolerate that very simple and basic concept at that time. We update math and science on discovery so we should also update religion based on our new understanding of the earth and the universe.
Unfortunately, many humans still believe that the universe revolves around Humans. What will religion think when we find intelligent life or it finds us from some distant planet? Will all of those religious fanatics try to kill the aliens?,....probably because of ignorance of the BIGGER picture. Education is far more important than people think so the lack of education is a problem we all have to deal with. Look at all of the murders, war and death surrounding the lack of knowledge of the universe. You do not see scientists killing each other these days, only religious fanatics or mentally ill people. Yes, those leaders that start wars are mentally ill and we need to recognize the illness and not allow them to be in power.
Education, education, education and not religious education,....the only way the people of our world will grow up and mature. Religion should only be used to practice your faith. I do not want to step on someones faith, but keep faith in the home or in a church, not in the classroom, workplace, or in stepping on others. I like the values such as DO NOT KILL in most religious texts, but the knowledge of the universe is pretty weak in those texts. The views are very limited since science back then was very limited, people just need to understand this fact.
Let's get education back on track and PUSH education hard on everyone. Push education harder than pushing religion. Religion will not help us create new energy sources or develop the next new technology. I hate to push down religion, but we need to grow up and realize that we are not alone in this universe and update those old history books with the science of today. God is an alien since God is not of this Earth. If Jesus descended from the heavens, then Jesus was probably an alien that came in a ship. If Mary was impregnated by God, then maybe it was artificial insemination as we can do today. Think about it, if I went back to 20 BC and artificially inseminated a woman after I put her asleep with a shot of some anesthetic, then would that not be the same? Let's update those archaic texts and take us out of ignorance and get educated. Religion is a way of controlling by FEAR and FEAR makes people kill others.
I am upset also about those killed by religious fanatics in Libya, such ignorance due to lack of education. There has been way to much death due to religion, time for it to stop. Greed has also been an issue we need to stop. Greed in the form of power is also bad. Those in power want to control and FEAR is the best way to control in their primitive minds.
What do the liberals really think of the unmitigated greed of the teachers?
@ billyhill, "Far more people have been killed by Atheism and liberal doctrine then religion".....
I disagree with you and so does history. Religion is the cause of over 500 million deaths in world history and Islam has killed 350 million by itself through the century's. Look at the way the holy texts boast all they killed. Killing Non-believers....So Primitive and so ignorant.
Please, people of this world, GROW UP and let each of us live our lives the way we want as long as we do not hurt one another and respect each others privacy and free speech. Do not try to force your delusions of religion on others and let people decide for themselves upon learning the fundamentals of how the universe works from scientific discovery and FACTS. I am not an Atheist, but I do not believe in a higher being that would ask us to kill others that do not believe. I believe that there are lots of advanced beings in the universe and they do not interfere with us because we are so warlike and kill due to ignorance. We have not grown up yet and we will not grow up until all of us understand the fundamentals of how the universe works. When MONEY is no longer the driving force that keeps the world going we will grow up. When all the humans are united as the human race in a universe of many species of intelligent beings.
My beliefs are no different than someone believing in a GOD that cannot be found or PROVEN to exist. Based on science and mathematics, I think my theories have a greater probability of being true as compared to the (non) evidence of GODS existence. If there is one all powerful GOD and it is a kind being, then it would destroy all those that kill over religion and those that kill for money or resources. The ones who plot this stuff in the background of our governments and corporations. At least it could separate us and those who have grown up could live in peace and continue to learn and grow free from murderous idiots. But alas, we can hope all we want that the bad people will pay for their crimes against humanity, but it will not happen if we do not GROW UP.
We can do better and we must do better. Please grow up people and realize that the universe is HUGE and we are tiny little specs in comparison. Who are you primates and religious fanatics to tell me that life can only exist on this one little planet in a universe filled with 100s of billions of planets? Please see the forest through the trees and grow up people. That is no different than believing the Earth is the center of the universe. How can anyone that murders another over religion or is a dictator believe they are the chosen ones, I think that is called mental illness and ignorance/arrogance, right? Mass delusion maybe?
Education, education, education!!!
I am sorry BillyHill, you must be talking about 3.5 million, not billion. 3.5 billion is half of the worlds current population. I do not believe this number of 3.5 billion and whoever made this number up is not thinking about the size of 3.5 billion. Wipe out all of China and India and you are still a billion short. I would believe 3.5 million. The numbers I quoted have references out of many history books including the bible. There is also a difference between abortion and killing people actually born and living. Americans are not responsible for this.
So, the media are reporting that CPS offered teachers a 16% increase over four years -- 3% the first year, and 2% per year for the second, third, and fourth years. In other words, 3% + 2% + 2% + 2% = 16%. I don't know of any numeric system in which that works.
You want real math? Fine. Just for the purpose of demonstrating percents, let's just use 100 as the base.
After one year, there's a 3% increase. That means that you'd add 3% of 100, or 3, to 100 and get 103.
Second year: a 2% raise this time, or 2.06. So now we're up to 105.06.
Third year: another 2% increase. 2% of 105.06 is 2.1012, so currently we're up to 107.1612.
Fourth year: the final 2% increase. 2% of 107.1612 is 2.143224. Add the two amounts together, and the final amount would be 109.304424.
So, yeah -- from 100 to 109.304424: an increase of 9.304424%.
How do they get 16%?
Because they actually did the math with real figures instead of making up their own figures like you did.
Either way, I bet Chicago wishes they had Scott Walker there now instead of dead fish emanuel who like his boss is in over his head.
The unions need to go away for good.
No tea bagged republicans need to go back into the mental hospitals and get the help they need for their paranoid delusions which causes them to hide under their beds from the boogieman the GOP scares them with. That includes little Scotty Walker who is just as insane as the rest of you booby hatch escapees are.
Who besides Unions are getting 16% increase in this economy? This is even if you do a terrible job (which from what I see some teachers in Unions do). More states need to do what WI did and combat these corrupt Unions.
Well STFUifUdont... You obviously have never made a payroll have you? Did you know that benefits have to be added to your pay?? Did you. It cost real money and it is factored into every employees compensation.
Benefits that all pay: Social Security, you may not realize this as a benefit but it is a big one. You see a portion on your check, but your employer MATCHES that amount on your behalf. Medicare, your employer also has to match your contribution to this broken program as well. Now I don't know the specifics of your generous compensation package, but I am sure it includes Retirement, Sick days etc... Who pays that?
How about the AC you want in the classroom, who pays for that??? How about the smaller classrooms (hire more teachers) who pays for that??? If you can pull yourself off the picket line for an hour and go do a little research I think you will find where every cent of the money goes, and start understanding it is BIGGER than your paycheck.
by the way... Why do you put the 400 pound Ms Lewis up as the face of your strike? I think you have little to no understanding of PR either.
"Who besides the unions are getting a 16% in this economy"?
Wall Street (the ones that don't give a crap about your 401(k), the bankers (the ones that trashed the econoy in 2008) the CEOs (the ones that shipped the jobs overseas) the wealthy (you remember, the ones with the overseas bank accounts and the $77,000 write off for a "therapy horse" that went to the Olympics) and they still want more taxes cuts.
For those "slamming" the teachers, why don't you do a little research on the issue, instead of the "30 second" sound bites or the "phrase of the day" (these teachers are over paided at $76,000)
http://www.suntimes.com/news/education/5679128-418/illinois-teacher-and-administrator-salaries.html?appSession=484319717411905&RecordID=&PageID=2&PrevPageID=1&cpipage=10&CPISortType=&CPIorderBy=
There are 27,000 "teachers" listed by name, their pay, how long they have been teaching and their degree. I did a quick scan of the top 1,000 that were making over $130,000 per year and you know what? They either have a "Doctor's or Master's Degree" and been a teacher/administrator between 15 to 30 years.
So what in your mind is "fair pay" for a teacher with a Master's Degree, 15 to 20 years of experience and a class size of 35 - 40 students? and also remember they also correct paperwork after school is over for the day.

First of all I like the photo of the Astronaut on the moon. Reminds me of a great country that used to do great things with Can DO people that were educated in functional schools.
How much people make is a function of what value they add to the free market. In other words if you have a PHD in Astro Physics and you decide to flip burgers, then you can't expect to draw a paycheck that is greater than other cooks get. If the degree acheived determined what your value to society was, then society would be getting robbed.
In this case the question becomes; Can they teach? That is measure of their value to the market place. Well to measure that you look at their product. Can their students read, write and do arithmetic? Beyond that are they functional in society? If the answer to that is NO, then what ever they are being paid is too much.
I don't think it is possible to be an effective teacher in an environment where students don't want to learn and parents aren't involved. I would suggest that any money put into that scenerio is a waste. An alternative system should be utilized that will deliver results commenserate with the investment.
"Can they teach"? with class sizes of 30 to 40 students... let's be real on this. Your not teaching, your babysitting. You spend more time on distractions.
If a school district gets known as a "hard district" in otherwords, the kids are lower income, or trouble - you won't get any quality teachers to go there for low pay.
Should there be standards for teachers, yes, but who's going to set them? Who's going to rate them? The parent's? hell no, they slam a teacher if their child can't go out for sports because of a failing grade, but it's not the parent's fault when their child doesn't do their homework, but play video games.
Is it the teacher's fault when the school board cut teachers and increased the class size by 50%?
This whole thing is to "privatize education" so people can make profits off it.
No one with a PhD decides to flip burgers. They only do that because it's the only job available.
Profit is not a four letter word, despite what the Union leaders might spew. I like to eat in places that make a profit, they tend to be clean, the food is good and service is pleasant. Businesses that make a profit are required to measure their effectiveness every day. The market requires that you compete every day against the other marketers to deliver the most value to the consumer. The one's that do this best tend to get the most consumer votes (dollars). Side note in the fast food business the highest EBITA % in the NATION is Chick-fil-A. Deadfish doesn’t want them to come to Chicago… go figure.
For over a decade I was a board member of a Private School, we struggled to break even year after year, sometimes we did, other times we didn't. I never got a penny for my time and effort, I contributed my time, money and skill. So don’t give me that ‘I was in it for the money’, that is the reality for the Union however. See how long the Union bosses stay around when you cut your dues. Because people had to pay tuition, they expected an improved product for their investment. Also when you pay for something, you have skin in the game, you want to get return on your investment.
Public school is 'FREE' school. Free of commitment, Free of investment, Free lunch, Free babysitting, Free time etc... So what is the value of something that cost you nothing?? ... Families should have to make a commitment to education, in money, time and support. It is a privilege beyond measure to be given the opportunity to receive an education, but when that privilege is abused the whole system is damaged. We have to separate those who value education from those who don't. Leaving the problems in the current system invalidates the whole education system. If you have a class of students of 50, but they want to learn, it is not a challenge. In fact you will have 10% of that type of student who will actually be tutors to the 90% and aid the teaching. However if you allow 10% or more of the students to be continual disrupters, trouble makers or worse, then you will destroy the system. We have to rid the system of these students, no teacher is going to be successful in that situation.
You may say I am cruel for saying this, but I will say those who allow the future of the kids with promise to be stolen by a broken system are the cruel ones. We have to make way for the best and brightest to gain good educations. We can't do that and maintain a babysitting service for the thugs. Education is much more than free lunch (and breakfast and soon supper). It is the promise that our country will depend on in the very near future.
Teaching is the most noble of professions. There is no other group that gets any more respect from me. However there are many nonfunctional education systems in place around our country. The 'Education' industry has been polluted by Education colleges, politicians, Unions, over-bloated administrations, and irresponsible parents. The kids are the victims, and left in the polluted system will soon become polluted themselves.
While you were a board member at the "private school" did your kids ride the bus? (My rural school district pays $300,000 in fuel a year, from the northern boundary to southern boundary is 48 miles and a few kids are on the bus for an hour) Did your "private school" offer after school athletics or were you able to focus on solely on education? Did your "private school" receive any funding from the state, like public schools do?
Who set your course standards and how were the teachers evaluated?
What happens after the "public schools" are forced to close and the "private schools" jack the costs up where low to moderate income families can't afford to send their children there? Is it going to be a case of education is now for the wealthy?
I would like to comment on your "if it's free, it's doesn't have value" Then I guess everyone needs to serve in the military - to give freedom value.
AL-1735815
I have appreciated our discussion, and first to your question of serving the military. I think every American should serve their country in some fashion for two years. This could be military or peace corp a CCC type service. I wished that at High School Graduation everyone hugged their Mother good bye and got on a bus to be in Service for the 2 years. No college exemption, no exemptions period.
Please don't confuse our private school to where Deadfish sends his kids. Tuition at our private school is $6,000/ year. In addition we fund raise, scrimp and save to provide an outstanding school. We are blessed by many burned out Public School teachers that just don't want to put up with the Public School lack of teacher support, tired of the Union lies and don't want to teach to Deadfish's (in TX it is Perot's) test.
Our private school maintained a fleet of buses. They were manufactured by Blue Bird typical school buses. Some we had to buy used from the rich Public Schools but we were blessed with 2 new ones. We paid 100% of the fuel, insurance and maintenance of the buses. We did offer after school athletics, Football, Volleyball, Basketball, Track, Softball, Baseball, and other extra Circular classes such as Band, Choir, Drama and Public Debate.
Our school was accredited by Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (sacs.org) a regional accreditation agency for an 11-state region. In addition to that group we were associated of several other educational groups that provided resources for our school. Curriculum was approved on site by our school superintendent, principals and teachers. We did not 'teach to a test'.
We consistently operated our school for about 60% of what the Public Schools in our area budget. Part of this was due to many volunteer parents, I for instance am a licensed CDL with a passenger and school bus endorsement who drove on many school trips, and part was due to people helping with yard maintenance and even custodial duties. I will tell you it was not easy, but when your kids education is at stake you do what you have to, its all worth it. It is hard to understand from outside and hard to explain from inside, but the product is amazing. We have 90% plus going to college, and about 85-90% of those finishing college with a degree. We also have successful plumbers, hair stylist, electricians and metal fabricators that completed the high school education with us.
If public schools closed down, there probably wouldn't be another $50 million stadium constructed as was just completed at a Texas High School. Decision making would come down to the local level. Diversity would be provided at unprecedented rates, and options for parents and children trapped in Public School would be created. I would propose dividing public school money evenly to all children, and then letting the parents choose which School fits their family the best. Good teachers would make more money than ever, you go to eat where the good Chef works don’t you? Poor teachers would either get better or get out of the profession. Deadfish and his ilk will fight this with all their might, because money is power and they love power.
The silliest argument I've ever heard is that teachers do school work after hours. I'd bet most good ones actually assign homework to their students, and if they went to work in industry, they would put a fair number of hours in after 3:30pm. Even with a litany of degrees. And they would come to work without the sun being up.
Way back in 2009, the Republicans criticized Obama for intervening inappropriately when he made some relatively mild comments about the way the Cambridge, MA police handled the arrest of Henry Louis Gates. This was a "local" controversy, and it wasn't "his place" to "interfere" in it.
Here's a link to that story:
http://www.boston.com/news/politics/politicalintelligence/2009/07/white_house_cla.html
If that was wrong for Obama, why is it OK for Romney to criticize Chicago teachers?
apples and oranges, obama criticized the police because gates was black and Romney is making comments about teacher union and nothing to do with race. Other thna the fact that most of the Chicago students as the strike capatin in this article states are from low income families.
How is that hope & change working for them I wonder?
DFTT
Well if we put sleeping pills in the feed maybe they will fall asleep for another 8 years.
Hey guys, this is a sad day. Time to be civil even to the lunch meat. Somber!
Mom, good to hear from you. Why hasn't Obama come out in support of the striking teachers?
I personally think the Mayor should give the Teachers every thing they are demanding and then immediately increase property and sales taxes by 5% to cover the costs. Then the people of Chicago will go on Strike and rightfully so. People are getting really tired of the poor performance of Public Schools and the high Taxes that support them.
Oh, 2, your attitude is so impressive. /s/
Thankful, I am sure you would love to pay more taxes to support the Teachers, but most people are not willing to. I think that is especially true in Chicago where Public School Teachers make 76K plus benefits and pensions, while the average Household earning are at 46K without benefits and pensions. Why should those with less pay more so Teachers can have even more. Not to mention that fact that the Schools are failing their children.
so let's reduce there pay and the tax payer is happy then when there pay is reduced with no way to negotiate what are they going to do?
Tin- I make plenty of typos, but, we're (not were) talking about the education system here (not hear). Maybe, your (not you're) response is the best there (not their) is to push or better teachers.
We should stand with the referees by not going to nfl games.
Now, after watching the performance Sunday, I'd have to agree with you.
41 children in a classroom??????????????????? Well it seems Chicago is right on schedule for what Mitt Romney is proposing.
Yeap, mitter went to private school.....didn't have any over crowded class rooms there? Perry in Texas has the same attitude....I know.
TM...where did Obama's kids go to school? Oh that's right...a private school...in Chicago and in DC. I bet their class rooms werent overcrowded either...
jsut saying...
Mom, you nailed it. People like the Romney's and Obama's send their kids to private schools. I do like Obama's support of charter schools. Don't you?
More money more mony more free benifits free benifits.
These teachers, what a joke they all should be fired.
They work 9 months out of the year, get every holiday off & paid, yet they want more money.
The union holds the kids hostage.
Get back to work and do your eeeffing job!!
These are public employees, and the dues they pay come from the tax payers and line the pockets of the union thugs.
Randi Weingarten makes $350,000 a year!!! how many teachers can you payh with that amount??
What a joke, it's all about the money.
ho-lee-cow~~How much money does Randi and those "union thugs" have in off shore tax havens to avoiding her tax obligation. All of our (American) infrastructure and prosperity, has been BUILT by the taxes of the American workers, including schools, which you benefited from. The greed and hatred, espoused by radical, republican, extremist is a blight on this nation.
What a load of bull$hit that all is.
The union are a nonprofit yet the won motels, gambling cassino's and so on. Yet the union members gt no benefit from these money making scams.
Why do you think the union are losing members?
Ever been to Detroit? use to be a big union town, 1958 population around 3million today around 700,000 and in decline still.
1958 was also the high water mark for the unions with about 33% of the work force in a union.
Today it is around 11% of the work force.
Next an off shore account is not against the law.
You are verifying my post. With the down fall of the unions, goes the down fall of workers, wages, benefits, quality and quanity of production and wealth for workers. Big corporations and the very wealthy, who gained their wealth at the expense of the American worker, are using their learned greed, to become greedier.
What a load of bull$hit.
The unions ruined the city of Detroit.
Now they have their sights set on Chicago and the kids.
Those rough & tuff union people taking it out on the kids.
What a bunch of losers
Propagandist.
"Teachers go on strike to help students"
Who came up with that line of bull$hit?
This is about the unions screwing the tax payers out of more money.
Well it was not you moocow, it was probably someone who doesn't try to cheat on his 8th grade math.
Ignorance is Bliss so I'm told.
Can't do the simple 8th grade math can you.
Yet you are an expert on all things.
Just love these keyborad hero's.
Let me help you. 10 is 2/3's of what number?
Sorry moocow but Reagans voodoo math just doesn't work outside of Reagans delusional mind.
You are what percent of intelligent?
The math is still to hard for you people.
Yet you are all experts in the economy, off shore accounts, the tax code and on and on and on.
Can you people evern name the 1st 10 prime numbers?
Can you tell the difference between opinion and facts? Can you tell the difference between right and wrong?
And you are a total idiot. Are you ever going to post a fact? Didn't think so. Haven't for the last several months you've been lying about everything. If ignorance is bliss, moocow should be in 7th heaven.
Want some facts?
Fact over 8% unemployment for the past 3 years.
Fact over 40 million people on food stamps
Fact obama has added over $5 trillion to the debt

First I would like to know how a person with dual citizenship such as rahm emanuel get to be a united states mayor..
My grand children have dual citizenship.....Michelle Bachmann
hashad dual citizenship. So what is this silly comment suppose to infer? I guess some people are just plain intolerant about so many things.Mr. Leit~~Rahm was ELECTED, unlike republicans who buy or STEAL their title.
Mr. Leit wants us to know he's ignorant and bigoted.
mr. leit. Show us some place that says a person can't have dual citezenship and be elected a public official, other than the President. Please show us where you found such information. And Fox Lies don't hold water here.
Larry, you are right. People do have the dual citizenship right, as well as the right to make overseas investments, etc. Bachman did, the Facebook co-founder moved his citizenship, and many more. I had thought you liberal type people didn't like this behavior. You are showing yourself to be above most liberals.
Now it the Dems time to try and control the out of control unions. The Union's time has come and gone, all they are now is Anti-American, anti-people and anti-middle class, they want all the middle class money to give to Dems to try and prop them up. Their time has gone and the Dems will now have to deal with the power they have gave them. I hope in my life time that we see all Unions dismantled and the money back in the hands of the working people.

dave-3254139~~Remember dave, when the unions are dis-mantled, so goes YOUR WAGES and BENIFITS. You need to read up on labor, PRE-UNION. You will learn, just how little workers earned, and the in-humane working conditions they were dealt. Do you really want to go back to that, no computer, no TV. The big greedy corporations, who have gained their wealth at the expense of the American working taxpayers, are not going to invest any of their wealth back into America, or the American worker. They have learned, their personal greed is much better fed, by off shore banks. Dave, if and when you learn history, you may want to re-think your hope for your life-time.
I am thinking Ms Karen Lewis will go around 400 pounds. What a face to put on the strike. Big fat bloated teachers vs average Americans. Is this intentional???
I think this is a plan so that when Obama sweeps in and puts his boot on the neck of the Union, the sheep will see her face and will accept the defeat of the Teacher's Union in an acceptable light. Make no mistake, the Uniion will fail in its demands, they are loosing the PR fight ala Karen Lewis, and their hide will go on Obama's wall. He is a political animal and he saw it worked for Scott Walker, he is playing the same game.
I'm sorry but the only ones who have their foot on the unions is the GOP who hate that the unions used to be able to donate as much as the GOP's billionaire sugar daddies. Come on confessions good for the soul, confess that your hatred of unions is because 1) unions get workers better pay, 2) unions make sure minorities are hired, 3) unions donate to democratic causes. The really sad part is you union haters refuse to admit that Reagan had the support of the Teamsters, typical GOP behavior get what they want from the unions then kick them in the head when their backs are turned.
Whomitmay,
1. I am all for better pay, 100%, but it should be tied to performance.
2. Minorities can only get a job from Daddy Union? That is a racist remark, period. Free people, people with Liberty will always have the best opportunity. ("Uncle Tom" a person who is slavish and excessively subservient to perceived authority figures, particularly a minority person who behaves in a subservient manner to a Union or any person perceived to be a participant in the oppression of their own group) In this case those oppressing the Minorities are the ones spreading the lie that their only hope is tied to the Dim o crats and the Unions.
3. The Reagan reference I suppose you intended to disperage the greatest President of the Century. He did 'break' a union, and we are ALL blessed because of it. It was the Air Traffic Controllers Union, and they BROKE Federal law by striking. Any Controller that obeyed the law kept their job. You know that, I know that, it is common knowledge. What would you have done?? Shut the country down??? I bet you would have 'kicked them in the head' too. Wouldn't you??
Now you watch this Strike situation and see if Obama doesn't come to the Rescue. Him and Deadfish have been planning this for a while. Why else wouldn't Deadfish come to the negotiation meetings? Then they put Ms. Lewis face on it, the PUBLIC Face of the Teachers Uniion. It is a DimOcrat dream, her head will be stuffed and hanging in the Oval Office soon. When that happens check back with me and I will let you in on whats next from Obama and Deadfish. If you like this you will love whats next.
Texas. Your post show how much you hate people. Insult people. You are a disgrace, even for Texas. I think it would be wise to go back to Fox Lies and get some informatiom. Even they have more intelligence than you.
Larry grow up, you sound like a little girl!!!!!!!
And what panhead you sound like you have nothing to say so you attack Larry. Reagan was a doddering old fool who was suffering from delusions caused from dementia that the disease that killed him created. Reagan was the worst president since Hoover until GWB took Reagans place.
Oh and texas I have lived in Texas and I have seen how Texas businessmen deal with workers, they suck. I was in Texas when business put signs out in front of their shops that said "I would rather hire an illegal Mexican then a yankee" or "yankees go home". Oh and if the person was black if he did get hired he was paid less then the white co worker next to him who not only got paid more but would get a promotion before any black worker, so don't pretend that businesses treat everyone equally because we know that is a lie.
Whomitmay,
Wow I have lived in Texas for over 50 years, I have never seen a sign anything like the one you described. I own a business, than makes me a businessman, our business employees Blacks, Latinos, women and even white males. I have 2 Yankees working here now, and if another would show up that wanted to work, I would hire them. As an evil businessman I am interested in maximizing profits, and therefore interested in surrounding myself with people who are interested in providing the best service and products to my customers. Those who excel in providing to the needs of my customers are promoted and share in the business' profits. Those companies that promote as you suggest, wouldn't last long in my market, and it is lala land to think that a business will function like that.
Your assumption that this is race based, or gender based is just plain wrong and I find it disgusting that you would paint the entire business world with this brush. I call that profiling, and it is as wrong for you as it would be for me.
The Unions want to promote because you have more education, or more seniority. How about promoting because you take care of your clients best??? What is weird about promoting excellence?
Larry,
Would you kindly point out what exactly in my post equates to 'hate' in my comments. Was it my reference to the 400 pound Ms. Lewis, the greedy child hating Uniions, Deadfish (aka Mayor Rahm Emanuel), the DimOcrats... ? Just curious. Those all look like honest observations to me.
Whomitmay,
You never answered my question. If you were President and the Air Traffic Controllers Union went on strike, and it was illeagal for them to Strike, what would you have done?
A. Fire law breaking employees and maintain the system in the interest of all consumers and users.
B. Honor the strike and shut all air transportation down in the country.
C. Give into the Unions demands and cause the consumers to pay an additional $5-10 per passenger trip forever and ever.
D. Other...
Tex, Larry specialty is accusing others of hate ( which, by his standards, makes him a hater). Whom is on ignore on my view because she has yet to provide insight or value to any subject.
By the way, even if you didn't build the road to your business, I appreciate people that invest their money, time and lives to create a business. Also, just wondering, do you ever do work in the evenings? Seems many of these folks think it is terrible teachers do school work in the evenings.
GreatGran, I am sorry to inform you that you are totally incorrect. The unions served their purpose way back when. Today they serve NONE. We have car plants all over this country that are non-union. They pay their workers more money and have better working conditions that any unionized plant. Union's are now just a money making machine for the democratic party. They serve no purpose except to exploit money from their members. In 2012 there is no need or want for them. Right to work states are the wave of the future. God Bless freedom and keep the unions from putting chains on the American people. Unleash our freedom, Obama wants everything to be free except for us people. There were people in the 2008 election that voted for Obama to prove they were not racist, in 2012 those same people will vote for Romney to prove they are not idiots.
Obama sure spoke out awfully quickly with an opinion on the Trayvon Martin incident. Why isn't he speaking out so soon on this matter? President Obama will remain silent on these issues as he evolves. Once he has evolved (polls tell him which position will generate more votes), Mr Obama may tell us his position. If we are real lucky, he will issue another executive order!
Obama has to tread carefully because he knows Emanuel is right in this instance, but he can't come across as being anti-union even when the union is wrong. I'm just curious as to how this will end. I would imagine team Obama is working hard behind the scenes to convince the union leadership to find something and convince the membership it is a win. Then he can move on without putting out an opinion. He is a good enough politician that he might just pull it off. Heck, he's convinced most on this blog that he deserves a second term.
Teachers in the Chicago public schools have rejected a $400 million offer, a 16% pay raise in a down economy, to go on strike for more pay and benefits. 350,000 public school students have been put into the streets. Chicago police are turning out in force to control unsupervised youngsters.
An Illinois teacher's average salary of $63,005 in 2010/2011 exceeds both the national average for teachers and the average family income in America, the latter by more than $12,000. Teachers in city schools do even better. Urban teachers' salaries raise rather than lower the state average.
Illinois unemployment exceeds the national average, yet these public "service" union parasites are demanding more from already overburdened taxpayers.
This is why Americans are turning against Public Sector Unions!
I’m sure Ed will be up there soon championing their cause.
Now you understand why Walker did what he did in Wisconsin. BIG BIG Blow to the shrinking Obama Ego.
It's not about the $$$. But then, all you righties care about is money. You place such a high value on $$$ you can't relate to anything but $$$. You have to turn everything into a $$$ issue. Except of course, when you bad mouth and lie about President Obama.
Sully. Walker did nothing but show his hatred and lies. He could shrink anybodys "ego" and especially President Obamas. You carry for too much hate aroung with you. Grow up a little.
And the teachers not, They refused on performance scores. Kick there but out if there slacking on the job. If that's has nothing to do about money what is it. Money ==== job security. This union is an example of what this Administration is and how it performs. And it's your kids hanging for it. WOW
I don't hate anybody Larry, His speech said the same thing in 2008 at DNC. I'm trying to fix what Clinton and Obama screwed up. Romney is the last hope we have!!!!!!!! Obama wanted to pass the Small Jobs Act 8 months ago, I'm glad the GOP shut that door down FAST. We would have been 16.6 trillion in the hole WOW. It would have never benefit the private sector. Again spending money we don't have. Moodys is about ready to down grade a to A tier that will devalue our dollar for sure.
Right because the GOP plan will balance the budget your so worried about sometime in 2040, maybe. You can lie to yourself panhead but you can't lie to others when they know that you tend to lie about everything, sadly robme hood is just now finding out how lying makes others view him less then desirable as presidential. Funny thing panhead you are viewed the same way as is the rest of you posting support for robme hood. You are known for those you support.
Waaaaa ----Your such a Dope. Your a failure by your own admission. Because you have no solution, your dialog makes you look like some type of sloth. Waaaa.
Tell me some more stupid.!!!!
Larry, what is it about? You agreed with whom elsewhere that unions get people more money? The complaints are about spending money on supplies. About only getting a 16% ( someone on here has calculated it is only 9%). About the salary protection that goes with tenure. You've placed a hate filled response that it isn't about the money. Please inform us.
The problem with public service unions is that there is no true collective barginning. To bargin properly you need two opposing sides. The government officials are not looking at the negociations as an opposition force to the Unions. They have a vested interest in keeping the unions satisfied because of votes, donations and campaigning help. The politians have given away the house in past years, it's not their money! A small note, Federal Employees are not unionized & don't have bargining rights, I believe.
Amen, it is time to realize that the Repubicans are on the side of the people, the Dems will let the country go off a cliff before doing anything about these greedy Unions.
Amen brother
Emanuel looks like a big HYPOCRITE,. He's talking to himself," which way do I go Doc, Which way do I go." Wow, Wow, wow
The beauty about all this, the Independent voters are seeing how a dis-function government operates at it's best. I think Romney has it in the bag.
Romney is up to the plate. He will TEE off on this Big Time. Right over center field wall!!!!!!
Delusion
A delusion is a belief held with strong conviction despite superior evidence to the contrary.[1] Unlikehallucinations, delusions are always pathological (the result of an illness or illness process).[1] As a pathology, it is distinct from a belief based on false or incomplete information, confabulation, dogma, illusion, or other effects of perception.
Delusions typically occur in the context of neurological or mental illness, although they are not tied to any particular disease and have been found to occur in the context of many pathological states (both physical and mental). However, they are of particular diagnostic importance in psychotic disorders includingschizophrenia, paraphrenia, manic episodes of bipolar disorder, and psychotic depression.
Chris ----- What you just said. That's exactly how the Nazi's were thinking. To convince their dastardly deeds were justified. Your are witnessing in Chicago how the wolves turn on their Master.
And when you can't win an argument, change the subject.
Chris' there's no argument here pal, Your trying to be a Psychologist, and your not. You have no Business Realization. You just make up crap as you go. WOW
These are what you call "business arguments"?
It is totally unacceptable that these public employees strike. They should be fired like Reagan did the controllers. But that would only hurt the kids worse. These are a bunch of greedy morons.
Max you are right. I wonder if the Unions have secret money in the Cayman Islands
The unions don't but robme hood does in fact all his wealth is hidden off shore.
Wouldn't you applaud them for that? It would make them look presidential.
interesting you don't comment on the crooked unions and how greedy they really are. The libs are in a bad position with the teachers union with the amount of money they contribute to the democrumbs coffers. where is obama? missing in action again. I guess he will vote present again
You mean like the Teamsters that supported Reagan? Go take your Fox news fake outrage back to Fox.

Obama's Legislative Record
Posted on September 25, 2008
Q: How many times did Obama vote 'present' as a state senator?
A: He did so 129 times, which represents a little more than 3 percent of his total votes.
http://www.factcheck.org/2008/09/obamas-legislative-record/
Senator obama voted against raising the debt celling.
President Obama had a hissy fit so he could raise debt celling.
No the credit rating for the country has been lowered, thanks obummer
What's Ed gonna do? His unions are being busted by Dems. Why doesn't he go after the mayor of Chicago? Oh, that's right, he is a dem. Huh! In order to keep the budget under control you have to tighten up the belt, but not at the expense of the teachers of course. or the firemen or the police. The only people left are the non government workers-- why doesn't Ed support just one? Romney 2012 to fix our economy.
Where is Obama on this issue? It is his town.
Max, I've been demanding Obama's his Transcripts, and their still avoiding the issue.
RUserious ----Ed would be out of a job if he supports one thing of Romney, he has no BALLS.WOW
Quite a discussion. It's like listening in on a brain trust.
Brain trust, That's one thing Obama wished he had. I would be willing to bet it already defaulted.
Now that's funny. Comparing yourself to Obama.
I think Fat Ed is staying away from this. He tried to do something in Wisconsin and he got egg in his face, Walker won easly. The mayor in Chicago is a dem, one of Nobama's boys, so Fat Ed is confused, do I go after the mayor or the unions. In the meantime the kids are the ones who are paying the price. Where's Nobama when you need him.
Obama "Leading from Behind" Doing nothing has worked really well for the country, hasn't it. Let's wait until Romney or Ryan show some leadership and then be super critical about how foolish they are....
Dems..stop drinking the koolaid for one minute and look at the situation. We have too many things wrong now to have a President who isn't a leader. And never will be.
Doesn't bathing in tea make you all sticky? Don't you get the urge to clean off once in a while?
Chris where is obama/biden on the strike? Helloooooooo. Diverting won't work. Man up
Chris, Yes like that TEA man. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!
I am not a Tea Party Republican. I am a moderate. I believe in abortion rights, womens rights, taxing all of the citizens and providing a way for illegal immigrants to be citizens. I don't believe in big government and huge debts to China. So think what you want but the large majority of Republicans are more moderate than you realize. Plus I couldn't vote for Obama while Biden is VP. No way could I accept Goofy Joe a heartbeat away for another 4 years.
Helloooooo Chris, Whom????????
I am Republican, I do not believe in abortion with my tax dollars. I believe immigration should be follow by due process of the law. Everything else in your paragraph I agree.
OK guys looks like the libs have ran again. I guess I never did expect an answer.
Bush is the one that indebted us to China. And Bush expanded the government way more than Obama did. So I guess your problem is with Bush.
But, of course, for that and many other reasons, you guys never like to mention Bush. He always seems to be off-limits. Pretty obvious why.
Oblunder has added over $5 trillion to the debt, more than any president in history.
Just think if he gets 4 more years. $10-12-13 trilion aded to the debt.
Try counting to just 1 trillion, it would take you over 31,000 years.
Liberals have a real hard time with basic math skills.
No, we have a real hard time with a lying piece of @!$%# like you.
Prove me wrong.
Trc, are you liberals going to sweep this Chicago thing under the rug, or are you going to demand Obama give his position? I'm sure he has wordsmiths and pollsters very busy testing responses across the board. Or, are you folks going to let him off the hook?
The real problem here is that there are far too many "old school" teachers, administrators, and policy makers that are attempting to reach "new age" students. Talk about the inability to see the forest through the trees; well this is it!
How about the pot calling the kettle black as well. Most of these teachers probably think it fine to help their students pass their standardized test to help them out of their class and into the next level. However, just don't use these scores to assess their own ability?
I agree with the teachers. These tests are flawed from the outset and they know it! Now their management wants to use a failed system to assess whether they have a job in two years? However, shame on the Chicago teacher's union for not stepping up to the plate and assisting the process of developing a credible evaluation system.
The current system of tenure is definitely part of the problem. If a teacher makes it past the first three years they have virtually guaranteed lifetime employment? That is not good, and in many cases it restricts teachers from looking outside the box for new approaches designed to reach new and ever changing pupils. There are far too many educators that believe all students are the same.
where is obama on this issue? nowhere, no committment, as usual
I think Obama voted Present.
