Both Mitt Romney and Republican National Committee chair Reince Priebus released harsh statements on Tuesday condemning what they said was President Obama's decision to "sympathize" with the people who attacked America's embassy in Cairo.
"It's disgraceful that the Obama Administration's first response was not to condemn attacks on our diplomatic missions, but to sympathize with those who waged the attacks," said Romney in a statement. Shortly after midnight, Priebus tweeted, "Obama sympathizes with attackers in Egypt. Sad and pathetic."
The Romney and Priebus remarks followed those made by U.S. embassy staff, posted online, in which they said, "The Embassy of the United States in Cairo condemns the continuing efforts by misguided individuals to hurt the religious feelings of Muslims – as we condemn efforts to offend believers of all religions."
The attack on the embassy was reportedly inspired by a YouTube video, produced in the United States, which the attackers believed blasphemed Islam and mocked the prophet Muhammad.
The Obama administration refuted Romney and Priebus' insinuation that it endorsed the embassy's statement. A White House official told Politico that the embassy's statement was "not cleared by Washington and does not reflect the views of the United States government."
Nonetheless, on Wednesday, Romney reiterated his attack in a televised press conference.
"The administration was wrong to release a statement sympathizing with those who had breached our embassy in Egypt instead of condemning their actions," he said. "It's never too early for the United States government to condemn attacks on Americans and to defend our values."
When challenged by the press on the timing of his remarks, Romney defended his comment.
"The president takes responsibility not just for the words that come from his mouth, but also for the words that come from his ambassadors, from his administration, from his embassies, from his State Department," Romney said. "They clearly sent mixed messages to the world. And the statement that came from the administration—and the embassy is the administration—the statement that came from the administration was a statement which is akin to an apology and which I think is a sever miscalculation."
After the embassy statement met criticism, a follow-up tweet from the U.S. Embassy in Cairo's official Twitter account said, "Sorry, but neither breaches of our compound or angry messages will dissuade us from defending freedom of speech AND criticizing bigotry."
LATE UPDATE: The New York Times reports that the Cairo embassy's initial statement was released "before the start of the protests," and describes Romney as "[a]pparently unaware of the timing."

Romney, the RNC=DESPERATE.
It's their guys who make provocations like this film.
We need to shut this man up before we have an international incident.
People in these countries don't realize Romney is a clueless campaigner who lies about Obama every time he opens his mouth.
Obama lies every time he opens his mouth and apologize for America being America.
Here we go again another confused newbie still repeating banned posters tag lines.
Egyptian protesters wearing Guy Fawkes masks pose for a photo graffiti on a wall of the U.S. embassy during a protest in Cairo, Egypt, Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2012

You see, Obama and his friends at the Occupy Wallstreet are connected to this violence. Pictures don't lie.

Of course they will lash out.
BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT IN CHARGE!
They can stand safely behind the Curtain and pretend they know what they are talking about. Of course they don't!
TS. you are lying about unfounded information and stating it as a fact. How like a republican propaganda artist you are.....Is your real name rove?

Mitt Romney is a political opportunist. Saying "The embassy is the administration...The administration is wrong..." is as idiotic as his statement that "Corporations are people, my friend."
Mitt Romney won't even take responsibility for what his own vice-presidential nominee says.
Thankful Mom,
There is the link, finally, to the photos. Take a look and get a handle on who these people are. Let me knwo what you think or give me another explanation. There are a hole seris of photos. You will see the mask on the thugs on the wall. In case you missed it:

Chris,
We have a dead honorable American Ambassador in Libya, the Embassy in Egypt has been invaded. And all you can think is: "Mitt Romney won't even take responsibility for what his own vice-presidential nominee says."
We have issued an Apolegetic statement to the Thugs, Hillary has already backed up on that. This Administration first reaction was not outrage at the thugs, but an apology for Americans having free speech. And Obama was making fun of Romney's Foreign policy experience. What a bunch of Amatures.
Actually, you are the amateur. You should try and verify facts before posting ideological statements, and so should Romney.
The embassy's "tweet" was in response to a group of Muslims pulling down the American flag. The attack was 6 hours later, by a completely different group. Hillary's statement was in response to that.
No wrong again what is wrong with you tea bagged republicans you go around insulting people then whine when you reap what you sowed.
Luckily no one was hurt in Egypt. It appears the attack in Libya was a military operation and possibly not related. They were well armed and had RPGs. Does not sound like an angry mob to me. Could this possibly be Al Qaeda ( it was 9/11) or remnants of Khadafi's goons who would have reason to hate the USA? I think it is premature to say anything at this point. Or to be playing the political blame game.
Come on. You KNOW what's going to happen. The same thing every time Romney shoots off his mouth. His campaign manager's are going to have to explain what Mitt really meant, and try and do damage control because someone let Mitt get in front of a microphone again.
Even Ryan's learned to keep his mouth shut and wait to see what happens.
The Obama administration is disavowing a statement from its own Cairo embassy that seemed to apologize for anti-Muslim activity in the United States.
"The statement by Embassy Cairo was not cleared by Washington and does not reflect the views of the United States government," an administration official told POLITICO.
The U.S. embassy in Cairo put out a statement early Tuesday that was pegged to anger over an anti-Muslim film being circulated by an Israeli-American real estate developer.
"The Embassy of the United States in Cairo condemns the continuing efforts by misguided individuals to hurt the religious feelings of Muslims – as we condemn efforts to offend believers of all religions," the embassy said in a statement published online.
http://www.politico.com/politico44/2012/09/white-house-disavows-cairo-apology-135247.html
"Some have sought to justify this vicious behavior as a response to inflammatory material posted on the Internet. The United States deplores any intentional effort to denigrate the religious beliefs of others. Our commitment to religious tolerance goes back to the very beginning of our nation. But let me be clear: There is never any justification for violent acts of this kind," Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said in a Tuesday statement.
The Romney campaign accused the Obama administration of sympathizing with the protests in a statement released after the administration statement.
“I'm outraged by the attacks on American diplomatic missions in Libya and Egypt and by the death of an American consulate worker in Benghazi. It's disgraceful that the Obama administration's first response was not to condemn attacks on our diplomatic missions, but to sympathize with those who waged the attacks,” Romney said.
No comments from Chris, Mom or Whomitmay on the photos linking the Egyptian Thugs to the Thugs at Occupy Wallstreet. Picture is worth a thousand words. And yep those Occupy Thugs, they are Obama People. I challenge you to take a look at the photo and give an honest assessment.
Photo link: www.mysanantonio.com/news/article/US-amvassador-killed-in-consulate-attack-in-Libya-3856652.php#photo-3440455
In his own statement, President Obama rejected the denigration of religious beliefs, but condemned the violent response.
"While the United States rejects efforts to denigrate the religious beliefs of others (even though I support the National Endowment for the Arts and its efforts at Christian denogration) , we must all unequivocally oppose the kind of senseless violence that took the lives of these public servants," Obama said.
What a Pro. we have in the White House. It was nice he took time before he hit the golf course. You know he has been sending serrogates to the intelligence meetings, he doesn't have time for National Security, I mean with all the Dave Letterman show and all. We don't want to talk to Israel, we got to good to Hollywood!!! ... we 'unequivocally'. That will get the thugs heads a spinning.
"Obama lies every time he opens his mouth and apologize for America being America, Chip Dooley.
The President never apologized for America EVER. The Know nothings like you are the ones lying and excusing what America has done under GOP rule because you believe America can do anything to anyone because we are free from any rules.
We are NOT at war with Islam. We are at war with extremists that are at odds with their own faith.
Texas Scarborough,
Shut up with the right-wing delusions. Obama had nothing to do with this WHATSOEVER! Stop spreading extremist lies!
Have you ever heard of ANONYMOUS? They also wear those masks.
Everything is Obama's fault with you people! Do you ever , ever, ever engage in critical thinking? What the hell would Obama gain from doing what you accuse him of? Why would Obama be involved in occupy Wall Street?
Get serious and think before you talk nonsense.
Yeah, I know, I ask too much of you right-wing nuts.
@Billyhill
Are you seriously that inept? You should seek professional help.
Sylvia,
He is and he should.
India LeCarre,
Hitting a little close to home. I wasn't going to tie ANONYMOUS in to this buch, but I appreciate you doing so.
So you ask why would slack jaw Obama would be involved with the Occupy bunch, well why don't we let him express it, It was in his Rolling Stone Magazine
President Obama says the various anti-Wall Street Occupy movements are "just one vivid expression of a broader anxiety" about the economy that will play a large role in this year's election.
"People have a sense the game is rigged, so just a few people can do well, and everybody else is left to scramble to get by," Obama tells Rolling Stone magazine.
Obama, who has occasionally echoed the Occupy rhetoric of the "99%" of Americans as opposed to the "1%" wealthiest, said that's reason for his agenda. It emphasizes government investments in education, research, and energy, and new taxes on the wealthy to help finance them.
Slack Jaw, Occupy and the Muslim Brotherhood all sing out of the same hymnal.
@ Over-the-hillbilly...
You wingnuts who bring their own do-it-yourself-crucifixion-kits are pretty lame...
Get off the cross. We need the wood...
No, Texas, Obama sings out of the same hymnal as all Christians, including me, sing out of.
It is, if I may say so, a bit of a leap from some article in Rolling Stone to killing the US ambassador. Don't you think?
Don't you think?
Kind of a bit much to make out of a mask, don't you think? You don't know who's wearing it, or why.
Do you think everyone in a Batman costume is Christian Bale?
I guess Texas Scarborough never saw the report when our ambassador was pelted with trash in Saudia Arabia because Michelle batsh** crazy Bachmann was on the news repeatedly lying about the President giving money and supporting the muslim brotherhood. Nah, it's all occupy wall streets fault. How pathetic can you get.
India LeCarre
I linked Occupy to the President in his on words because you asked "Why would Obama be involved in occupy Wall Street?" that's established fact. The President of course wanted the Occupy movement to get a lot more traction, even sent down his old friends Bill Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn to try to whip up the movement, but it just never really jelled.
Now if you and Chris can't connect the dots, well I am sorry for you. I am sure that the Muslim Thugs got their very own mask from the US Care packages, probably just luck of the draw that they all turned out to be Guy Fawkes mask. They posed for the photo to show their thankfulness to the Americans who had blessed them with the Muslim Brotherhood and the Care Packages. By the way, they want to know when that $1 Billion dollars Hillary promised will hit their bank account. You see they are part of the 99% and in fact all of America is the 1%. When slack jaw HopeyChangey gets clear of all this smoke, he will hand carry the money to his friends over at the Muslim Brotherhood. You see after the election he will have much more 'Flexibility'.
Chances of retaliation for this act of war by this Administration, about the same as HopeyChangey breaking 90 on the golf course, ain't going to happen.
Please provide sources for these "facts."
Please provide a source for these "facts." "I am sure" isn't a fact.
Please provide a source for these facts.
Thank you.
Chris. You're asking an awful lot of the little guy aren't you?
Oh, god. More ignorant right-wing bull@!$%#. Is this also not permitted to be fact-checked?
Pretty pathetic. I mean, there's now a virtual party-wide ban on fact-checking in the GOP. So, TS is free to BS until we're all sick of it.
Myself, I put perpetual BS artists on ignore.
By M. Alex Johnson and Daniel Strieff, NBC News
Updated at 4:16 p.m. ET: U.S. officials told NBC News on Wednesday that they couldn't rule out the possibility that al-Qaeda-inspired Islamist militants were responsible for the attack in the eastern Libyan city of Benghazi that killed Christopher Stevens, the U.S. ambassador to Libya, and three other Americans.
Libyan officials, independent analysts and postings on Islamist websites from known militant activists suggested that the attack — which officials had previously suggested was retaliation for release of a movie critical of the Muslim Prophet Muhammad — may have been an orchestrated assault, noting that it occurred on the 11th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks in the U.S.
At a briefing for reporters, Libya's interim president, Mohammed el-Megarif, suggested that the attack was timed to coincide with the anniversary specifically to "destroy democracy in Libya."
Al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri released a video Tuesday marking the anniversary. In it, he called for Islamists to seek revenge for the killing by a U.S. drone strike of deputy al-Qaeda leader Abu Yahya al-Libi in June.
Online postings Wednesday from Islamist militants were celebrating the attack as payback for his death, said Evan Kohlmann, an Middle East and terrorism analyst for NBC News. One of the postings claimed responsibility for the attack in the name of Ansar al-Sharia, a Sunni Muslim militant faction.
Follow live developments from Libya on BreakingNews.com
Noman Benotman, a Libyan-born senior strategy analyst for the Quilliam Foundation, an antiterrorism research group in London, also said the organization's intelligence indicated that the attacks were "committed by uncontrollable jihadist groups," not by a protest mob that spontaneously erupted into violence.
Quilliam said on its website that its sources, some of whom it said were in Benghazi itself, reported that about 20 militants carried out the attack using rocket-propelled grenade launchers.
That appeared to square with an eyewitness account cited by Libya Herald, which quoted a demonstrator at the consulate as saying a protester fired a rocket-propelled grenade launcher at a police vehicle but hit the consulate building on Venezia Street, instead.
The Voice of America, meanwhile, cited similar reports that "several dozen gunmen from the Islamist group Ansar al Sharia" may have carried out the attack.
Tommy Vietor, a spokesman for the National Security Council, said "it would be premature to ascribe any motive to this reprehensible act," and other U.S. officials said they couldn't rule out the possibility of a link to al-Liby's death or the Sept. 11 anniversary.
In the aftermath, officials told NBC News that they were preparing to send as many as 200 Marines to Libya to bolster security around the U.S. Embassy in Tripoli. The Marines' Fleet Anti-Terrorism Security Team would be deployed from a Marine Amphibious Ready Group already positioned aboard a helicopter carrier in the North Arabian Sea, the officials said.
In addition, the Defense and State departments were considering sending additional Marines to other potential trouble spots, including Cairo and Kabul, which have both seen sectarian flare-ups against the U.S.
I'm hoping to burn his brain out.
Chris thank you for inviting an explnationn for my remarks. I love to share the facts.
1. Ayers and Dohrn visit Occupy. This is but one instance of this. They are such 'Americans'. The Occupy link to Obama you will find in the Rolling Stone sited elsewhere in this blog;
Please provide sources for these "facts."
Well here you go:
William Ayers and his wife Bernadine Dohrn stopped by Union Square in New York City to talk to Occupy Wall Street protesters about capitalism and activism last week. Ayers said: I get up every morning thinking, today I'm gonna make a difference. Today I'm gonna end capitalism. Today I'm gonna make a revolution. I go to bed every night disappointed, but I'm back again tomorrow. That's the only way you can do it.
Poor Bill Ayers......
Photo of Muslim Thugs in their Occupy Guy Fawks mask. There are a lot of photos in that group.
www.mysanantonio.com/news/article/US-amvassador-killed-in-consulate-attack-in-Libya-3856652.php#photo-3440455
This last paragraph was my attempt to mock what the liberal explanation of the photos. The protesters in Egypt are linked to Anonymous are linked to Occupy are linked to Ayers and Dohrn that are linked to the slack jawed Prince-I-dent Obama. You are aware that Obama started his political life in Ayers living room, right? So I came up with what I figured was your explanation to the mask at the Egyptian Embassy. But Hillary giving Egypt $1 Billion sadly is not a joke, its a fact you can find it at:
I am sure that the Muslim Thugs got their very own mask from the US Care packages, They posed for the photo to show their thankfulness to the Americans who had blessed them with the Muslim Brotherhood and the Care Packages. By the way, they want to know when that $1 Billion dollars Hillary promised will hit their bank account.
Please provide a source for these facts.
Thank you Chris and all on this board for the opportunity to teach. I mean free speech is great, something all Americans can celebrate and defend, well except the Obama Administration.
U.S. Embassy Condemns Religious Incitement
September 11, 2012
The Embassy of the United States in Cairo condemns the continuing efforts by misguided individuals to hurt the religious feelings of Muslims – as we condemn efforts to offend believers of all religions. Today, the 11th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the United States, Americans are honoring our patriots and those who serve our nation as the fitting response to the enemies of democracy. Respect for religious beliefs is a cornerstone of American democracy. We firmly reject the actions by those who abuse the universal right of free speech to hurt the religious beliefs of others.
What a load of crap. Giving more instances from your imagination doesn't constitute a fact.
You should really learn the difference between an opinion and a fact. You quite obviously don't know what that is.
And just because something seems true to you, doesn't mean that it is.
But thanks for showing all of us how a right-winger interprets the world. Very revealing.
The GOP has neither honesty or fundamental integrity. If this kind of absurd lie is what they'll stoop to, how can the country trust this man to do anything he says? How can the international community?
Pro al Qaeda group seen behind deadly Benghazi attack that killed Ambassador Christopher Stevens
(CNN) -- A pro-al Qaeda group responsible for a previous armed assault on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi is the chief suspect in Tuesday's attack that killed the U.S. ambassador to Libya, sources tracking militant Islamist groups in eastern Libya say.
They also note that the attack immediately followed a call from al Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri for revenge for the death in June of a senior Libyan member of the terror group Abu Yahya al-Libi.
The group suspected to be behind the assault -- the Imprisoned Omar Abdul Rahman Brigades -- first surfaced in May, when it claimed responsibility for an attack on the International Red Cross office in Benghazi. The following month the group claimed responsibility for detonating an explosive device outside the U.S. Consulate, and later released a video of that attack.(CNN) -- A pro-al Qaeda group responsible for a previous armed assault on the U.S.
Consulate, and later released a video of that attack.
Noman Benotman, once a leading member of the Libyan Islamic Fighting Group and now based at the Quilliam Foundation in London told CNN, "An attack like this would likely have required preparation. This would not seem to be merely a protest which escalated."
"According to our sources, the attack was the work of roughly 20 militants, prepared for a military assault; it is rare that an RPG7 is present at a peaceful protest," Benotman said.
"According to our sources, the attack against the consulate had two waves. The first attack led to U.S. officials being evacuated from the consulate by Libyan security forces, only for the second wave to be launched against U.S. officials after they were kept in a secure location."
That analysis is supported by U.S. sources who say the attack on the consulate is believed to have been pre-planned. The sources say the attackers used the protest as a diversion to launch the attack, although the sources could not say if the attackers instigated the protest or merely took advantage of it.
The sources do not believe the ambassador was directly targeted.
Libyan Deputy Interior Minister Wanis al-Sharif, speaking at a news conference in Benghazi on Wednesday, said that "among the protesters, there were some who infiltrated the march to start chaos."
Benotman, who had earlier warned of the likelihood of renewed attacks against U.S. interest in Libya, said the Omar Abdul Rahman Brigades is a prime suspect in the Benghazi attack Tuesday. He believes it is likely the deadly attack was also linked to a video statement released by al-Zawahiri on the 11th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. In the video, al-Zawahiri confirmed the death of al-Libi -- a prominent member of the al Qaeda-linked group -- adding: "His blood is calling, urging and inciting you to fight and kill the crusaders."
The video released by the Brigades in June showed nighttime explosions around the consulate, interlaced with footage of Osama bin Laden and al-Zawahiri, along with images from the 9/11 attacks. At the time the Brigades claimed it had launched the attack in response to the first reports of al-Libi's death in a drone strike in the tribal areas of Pakistan.
Notably, the Brigades said the June 5 attack was also timed to coincide with preparations for the arrival of a senior U.S. State Department official.
"The time frame of attacks shows that the group has been following and actively involved in gathering information about the activities of diplomatic missions in the country," Benotman wrote in a June briefing paper on the group.
He adds that it appears the Omar Abdul Rahman Brigades was also responsible for a rocket attack against the convoy of the British ambassador in Benghazi on June 11 and an attack against the Red Cross in Misrata on June 12.
Libyan and Western security officials tell CNN that al Qaeda has taken advantage of a security vacuum to build up a presence in eastern Libya.
A senior Libyan official told CNN in June that the United States had flown surveillance missions with drones over suspected jihadist training camps in eastern Libya. The official said that, to the best of his knowledge, they had not been used to fire missiles at militant training camps in the area.
Another Libyan official told CNN at the same time that five radical Islamist militant commanders were operating in the Derna area, with 200 to 300 men under their command in camps in the area. Ironically, Christopher Stephens -- the U.S. ambassador killed in Tuesday's attack -- had written extensively about the rise of Salafist factions in and around Derna in a 2008 diplomatic cable.
As CNN has previously reported, one of militant commanders, according to several sources, is Abdulbasit Azuz, a long-time associate of al-Zawahiri. Azuz was dispatched by al-Zawahiri to Libya from Pakistan's tribal areas in the spring of 2011 to create a foothold for al Qaeda in Libya, the sources say.
Azuz is a veteran jihadist who fought the Soviet-backed government in Afghanistan in the early 1990s, according to several sources. He later to moved to the United Kingdom, where he increasingly came on the radar screen of British security

What a bunch of idiots. The GOP are way out of touch.
Are you frigging kidding me, shut Romney down when the administrations releases that type of statement and loser barry waits how long before making a wishy washy statement about the death of our Ambassador in a country he took pride in overthrowing the leader in?
If Bush were still prez you loonies would be all over him as being weak and stupid. Guess what obama is weak, stupid and one and done.
These are acts of war and should be handled accordingly, if did not apologize for America's greatness this never would have happened. The world sees him for what he is, a jelly spine loser whose sole purpose is to bring down this great country.
Once again the poster lives up to his name.
Yep, unreal at the stupidity of people to make excuses while this great country is being torn apart by the idiot in charge and kool aid drinkers like you that following him like lemmings to the cliff.
Yeah Obama should say something possibly stupid like Romney did before all the facts are in. Speculate and cast blame without knowing the facts. That sounds like a winning plan. Looks like the deaths in Libya came from a planned commando style attack. We don't even know if the 2 embassy attacks are related.
Marines are on the way. Let them "sort" it out before running off at the mouth.
LOL at you
in the words of the late SGT. Hulka
"Lighten up Francis"
gee you really need to remove your head from yes that's correct 4th point of contact, and turn off all that crap you are listen to.
"Yeah Obama should say something possibly stupid like Romney did before all the facts are in. Speculate and cast blame without knowing the facts. "
that shows who is ready for the job and the 0300 call and well who is not even close to being a contenter.
UnReal (how accurate) bathing in tea again.
My God, Chris, I don't think I can take it. It sounds and feels like the asylum doors have been broken down and the inmates are on the loose.
What are these people smoking, drinking, snorting, or shooting?
It is madness!
We sure as hell know obama was never ready for the job. Last time an embassy was taken over was under jimmy dumba@# carter and look what that led to...
The fact that these scumbags get all riled up over a joke about their head goat herder is ridiculous and that barry stands by and lets them trample on our sovereign soil, because yes the US Embassy is considered Sovereign Soil, this is tantamount to an attack on the US.
Less any of you libbys forgot, yesterday was 9/11 and 11 years ago and since then you blasted President Bush for not jumping up and running out of the room when he first about the "possible" attacks. Barry was too busy campaiging to even come up with an immediate response.
When he did come up with something, it was a coded message of , " we are sorry we offended you with our ability to have free speech and make fun of everybody, including the chief goat herder you worship".
Get real people, this is just another jab to test our resolve and barry once again FAILED....
Leave it to you turds to politicize an event like this. The ambassador was well liked by the majority of ppl in Lybia. These were nothing more than radicals. Just like you teabaggers.
The embassy wasn't taken over. But why let the facts penetrate your UnReal world.
Muslims also protected Americans and tried to stop their fellows. Some of them carried the Ambassador to the hospital.
And the "coded speech" are the voices in your head.
well lets see it was planed, well excluded with RPG`s and Automatic weapons.
sounds like a pre plan attack that just happen to have a great gifted to hide it behind. yes talking about the video, which thank god/allah you tube has dropped before it could cause more problems.
Romney couldn't wait to politicize a tragedy. A man who's parties rhetoric promotes religious and racial intolerance doe's just what you would expect from a low life. Freedom of speech comes with a responsibility to not place others in danger.
Romney expressed no sympathy for the dead.
Romney showed no concern for the injured.
Romney never asked how the survivors escaped and where they are now.
All he did was make meaningless statements about "leadership" and criticize President Obama over a "tweet" sent from a foreign embassy.
Romney never tells us how he'd act in any situation, but he's quick to criticize President Obama even when he (Romney) has no idea what has happened or what is happening.
repubs doing their best to defend romney's misplaced and inappropriate statements.
romney is in such a hurry to demonize the President, his campaign can't even wait for facts to come out so they can respond with a modicum of intelligence and respect for the situation at hand.
thank god mitt romney is showing his ignorance, it is shining through for ALL TO SEE. even level-headed intelligent repubs are slackjawed at romney's unfathomable empty-headedness when it comes to foreign policy.
OMFG.
the SAME people who took us into the IRAQI WAR are the same people who are giving romney advice on this issue, and other foreign affairs.
OMFG.
Yeah, Romney has employed 34 former Bush staffers. You can tell where he is getting his foreign policy advice.
The blind leading the blind.
A Citizen, #4.1,
"Romney expressed no sympathy for the dead and injured."
That is something I've noticed for a long time about Romney and why I believe he is a psychopath. His constant lying is another reason. His treatment of other people and his dog are another clue.
Keep your ears and eyes open to how well he treats his VP pick, and how often they are now together. He has no feel naturally for other people or how to relate to them. I think he's a psychopath, a lot points to it.
And let's not forget his being for the draft and the Vietnam war while he was a draft dodger himself. That is beyond hypocrisy, it shows pathology.
PS..........the kind of pathology that does not belong in the white house!
Keeps me awake at night.I don't think I will rest easy till this is over.
It isn't a good idea to have the inmates running the asylum.
India~
I think we could all see a long time ago, when we first heard of Mitt strapping his dog to the roof of the car, just how much compassion he has. It obviously extends to humans as well as animals. The man is a loser and he keeps on proving it day after day.
I want to know who apologizes to the families of the four heroes when their deaths are used to inflame the passions these men gave their lives to suppress? Mr. Romney cannot be trusted to advance the interests of our nation when those he will deal with will have adults in the room. He certainly cannot be trusted when NO adults are in the room. Remember that November 6.
Whats sad and pathetic is that someone actually named Reince Preibus is the REPUBLICAN party chairperson....and the head of the NRA is a French man....what irony....

It just amazes me that these people can make these films and when the backlash is to the magnitude it is and causes a person's death ...I think someone needs to be held accountable...Jones as well as the man that made the film...they both knew what chaos it would cause...just like the 2016 film...full of opinions made to look like fact and the sheep follow this idiocy right to their own slaughter...
I point the finger the Muslim holy book burning Tea Bagger preacher in Florida. 9 soldiers were killed when he did his last stunt. Are we sure we want to put the leader of the Tea Bagger party in the White House?
GA girl,#6.1 I am certain we do not want to do that.
Thee people are like a loose cannon and can do some damage.
Romney is dangerous. He's clueless and dangerous, like the rest of them. In their efforts to lie about Obama, they could cause a serious international incident.
I listen to Obama speak about this in my car this morning.........I trust that he has all the true facts, and these two are speaking of things they are not privileged to know.
Romney is getting his advice from the 34 former Bush staff he has hired, including John Bolton, a Neocon with a capital N, who happens to support Bachman's anti-muslim witch hunt. Can't you tell?
Romney isn't a politician, doesn't hold elected office, and doesn't have access to privileged information. He's just a private citizen shooting his mouth off.
The news networks should stop treating him like he actually knows what he's talking about.
Exactly, Chris. People listening in some other countries do not understand these fine lines, but the news media damn well should. This man could cause an international incident while cluelessly shooting off his mouth about the president who is trying to contain a delicate situation.
These extremists have their own versions of Beck and Fox "news" in the middle East and that and Romney's BS are a bad combination.
LET THE PRESIDENT DO HIS JOB, MITT! STFU!
Sad and Pathetic!
yep that`s the teapublican party to a tee.
no mention of the pastor terry jones. does willard support terry jones? we know he supports pat... what would the people of kolob think of willard
Bah, hum-bug! Rip you off romney is just an elephant ass-kisser.
What the heck is the matter with Priebus? He's as out of touch with the world as Romney.
He is dealing with his "napoleon Complex " due to his name...and is a follower not a leader..
Congratulations, President Obama. You reap what you sow...
You support the "Democratic Uprising" in Egypt- without ANY understanding of the word "Democracy" to Muslims- and the Muslim Brotherhood rises up...
you support the revolts in Libya, and the Miuslim brotherhood rises up...
you support Occupy Wall Street, with MB ties...
you DON'T support the GReen Uprising in Iran...
and now what happens, yesterday, September 11, 2012???
Embassies attacked, in Egypt, and Libya, led by Muslim Brotherhood members, wearing Guy Fawkes "Occupy Masks"...
4 dead...
and now Egypt working WITH Iran...to gather intelligence and acquire weapons systems...
THESE are the movements you supported...THIS is the path you chose...you did so either ignorant to the ways of that part of the world, or you actually knew what you were doing...
its the latter that would be far, far worse..
How the hell do you know! Seems to me these Embassy burning Muslim extremist were whipped up in a frenzy by misinformation much like like you and your loony hate filled extremist Tea Baggers are being similarly mislead by erroneous and bogus information. So Pot meet Kettle and take to tax cuts and don't call us in the morning!
GA girl,
The T-party and Mitt Romney are a real danger to this country.
Clueless about foreign affairs.
How do I know??? apparently you haven't seen the video, sweetheart...the photos...I have seen the pictures of the attackers, with their Muslim Brotherhood flags...and with their "Occupy" masks...so I have actual video proof...
now, you can choose to ignore the facts all you want...they are what they are...
FACT: Obama supported the Egyptian uprising, in which the Muslim Brotherhood now controls the country.
FACT: Obama gave money and military support to the Libyans, in which case the Muslim Brotherhood will be takin gover shortly.
call me loony all you want. you are of the mindset that being offended by a little cartoon makes murder okay...how sane is THAT???
Damn Straight they are! They are about an nimble as a damn 2 by 4 and subtle as a freaking neon sign and as dumb as a box of rocks! Hell if they were in charge we would have more activated terrorist cells then Homeland Security could handle! Romney looses the White House on Foreign Policy only as for as I'm concerned but it looks like his ignorance is generalized to include everything. All he is good at is pandering to the extreme right.
I also the video that cause this riot in Egypt, and it is insulting.
http://www.theatlantic.com/international/archive/2012/09/the-movie-so-offensive-that-egyptians-just-stormed-the-us-embassy-over-it/262225/
I don't think the Libya attack is related to this, it was a well planned commando-style attack. Remember the date, 9/11.
Obama helped un-caged the animals in Libya and Obama funds the animals in Egypt. There was not an appropriate response to the murders of UN Officials in Afghanistan and there will not be an appropriate response to these murders. In Obama's eyes the problem isn't Muslims murdering people, burning our flag, and attacking our Embassies, Obama thinks the problem is "Free Speech".
It is time for Americans to demand action from the Obama Administration. Obama must stop funding our enemies with our Tax dollars and Obama must withdraw our troops for Afghanistan immediately. It is time for "Change" before Obama leads us to another 911.
And as usual you morons are FOS. If the President had done nothing in Egypt and libia, you wimps would be whinning because he didn't.
Some people are idiots...Anyone that agrees with Romney is the biggest idiot!!! As President, Romney's impulsive behavior would keep us in constant wars and a loss of all our allies!
Waiting on Romney and Priebus' to offer up their Christian children as sacrifices in the war they want on Libya. After all it is a religious thing...
Milliseconds after, "God bless America," and, "Amen", these 'wannabe' statesmen are right back in their cesspool, molding political turds out of national tragedy.
The National Tragedy was Obama's bombing of Libya that helped lead to these murders taking power. The National Tragedy is Obama funding the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt. Obama and his policies are responsible for the murders of these citizens, not FREE SPEECH.
DNFTT
Could it be possible that this attack was carried out by ex-Gaddafi goons or Al Qaeda? After all it was 9/11.
Alykatma, The protests took place in London, Tunisia, Libya and Egypt all on 9/11. Two Embassies were attacked (Egypt and Libya). It is doubtful ex-Gaddafi goons or Al Qaeda orchestrated all of them. Do you think Al Qaeda was responsible for the murders of UN Officals in Afganistan too. I want to know if the attacks would have taken place but for Obama's support to these people and their governments. There has not been a US Ambassador killed since 1979. Obama's decision to support the rebels in Libya and to provide a billion dollars in aid to the Muslim Brotherhood Egypt is at least in part responsible. Obama has really earned that Peace Prize.
come on now Mr.Robme , er rub me.. damn it Romney, mixed words??? for a man that flip flops worse than an old lady slippers you got to be kidding me.. depserate times calls for desperate measures huh??
Romney will do anything to garner attention. The fact that these men would put words in Obama's mouth should tell you how far the GOP has fallen.
Slimy Just Slimy
either you all don't get it, or you all don't care...you are too wrapped up in your "Messiah" Obama to see what he is doing...
this President is now sending $1B in aid...to Egypt...so they can buy submarines...why would they need subs??? Israel maybe???
While Obama disses Netanyahu, again and again...so he can go on David Frikkin Letterman...
Obama stood in Egypt...he helped in Egypt...he supported Egypt...he met with the new MB President in Egypt...and then Obama APOLOGIZED for the guy who made the youtube video...
are you serious???
CATT: The loss of American lives in Benghazi, Libya and the attacks on our embassy in Cairo are sad outbursts. We need to take a long term view of the region and its history. A stable Egypt on the side of America is vital to the whole stability in the region. You seem to lack an understanding of this part of the world. The U.S. will continue to do business in Egypt because the Suez Canal is vital for commercial and military supply ships and carrier task force groups traveling through the Mediterranean through the Red Sea to the Indian Ocean. We have been supplying military aid to Egypt since the 1978 Camp David accords.
In the 1973 Yom Kippur war Israel was losing badly, and Golda Meir actually put nuclear bombs on F-4's fighter jets and got ballistic missiles with nuclear warheads ready to launch. Richard Nixon ordered the largest peacetime airlift since the Berlin airlift of 1948 because Israel was running low on heavy weapon after the serious losses they took in the first week or so of the war. Both the Soviet Union and the U.S. put their military forces on a high state of alert including putting paratroopers on alert and nuclear missile crews on the highest alert possible. Diplomacy won out but this was an ugly crisis. We supply arms to Egypt to keep the peace in the region. If there was another regional Middle East War like the 1973 Yom Kippur War, it would quickly turn into a holocaust. Egypt would probably developed its own nuclear weapons long ago had the U.S. not sent peacekeepers in the Sinai. So we ally ourselves with Egypt today, despite bumps in the road, because our long term interests are to keep Egypt on our side and keep peace in the Middle East. God help all of us if there is another Middle East War like the 1973 Yom Kippur war. I read about this war and shudder every time I study it. Historians do not talk about the 1973 Yom Kippur war but it was a nasty shock to America and since then we have permanently kept a carrier task force group in the Persian Gulf. From 1976-2007 this has cost us $7.3 trillion. If there is another major war between Israel and Iran with the missiles flying the consequences for the world would be a disaster in the making. You can say hello to $200 per barrel oil. There is a high probability of a possible nuclear holocaust in the Middle East and the Great Depression II in the U.S. Its better to let the dust settle over this incident and let the cool heads of diplomacy prevail.
I am thinking that posting a youtube video that insults Muslims is a bad idea because every time something like this happens an American soldier or soldiers or a civilian working in the region comes home in a body bag. Right or wrong we need their oil and we have to at least refrain from unnecessary insults of other cultures whenever possible. We have a right to say what we think but we have to remember that when you needlessly insult other people's culture or religion they are going to swing back at a cost to us. I did not make the world I only wish to see a little less violence and a lot more study of history, culture, and other people's beliefs because the cost is high when you don't do this.
Rex, Really, we need oil so we have to walk on egg shells. Maybe you think we need to suspend our right to FREE SPEECH? Why do we need their oil? Could it be Obama's Policies? These incidents are increasing in frequency and will only stop when we cut all ties with them. Within the next few days more will die in other countries. Everyone of the 68,000 US Troops in Afghanistan should be on planes out of there immediately, as should our representatives in every Muslim country in the Middle East. The death of these four Americans as well as all those to follow are a result of Obama's policies.
Rex-
thanks for the well thought out reply...i appreciate you discussing the history and giving reason for your position, rather than just firing off half-baked invectives...
you mention a stable Egypt...we've had that, in large part, because of our relationship with Mubarak, and the fact thay there was an agreement to not harm Israel. Now, Mubarak was not a good guy, but as you said, it was a necessary relationship. Now, the Muslim Brotherhood is running the show in Egypt. they are bad, bad people...there is no indication that they will be "on the side of America"...and they DEFINTELY won't be on the side of Israel. the rise of the MB certainly de-stabilizes the area, along with Egypt's leaders now working with Iran to gather intel against Israel.
I agree with you in some of what you said...Israel is now in a bad spot, and in our lifetimes, we'll defintely see a major conflict in the Middle East...it will be soon. If OBama is re-elected, it will be within a year...Israel will feel alone in the world. and they will be right. and they will HAVE a right to defend their very existence.
the MB regime is extreme. they control Egypt; President and majority party. it will link arms with Iran. Egypts INTEL Chief is meeting with Iranian spies (according to US Officials). Obama is sending $1 BILLION in aid to Egypt...you seem to be a smart guy, Rex...i encourage you to read up on the "Brotherhood"...they are NOT who they have been advertised to be...
Obama chose these allies. he helped put them in power. We used our bombs, our money to put them in power. he is funding them. HOW is this "good for Israel"??? how is a threatened Israel good for the Middle East, or the world???
we can't kowtow to the Muslims. a video was made on youtube...so what? does making a video justify murder? i understand your comments about oil...we are in a TOUGH situation because of our reliance on foreign oil.
here is the problem...
even if we BANNED free speech in America, and didn't allow comments or cartoons or videos insulting Islam, the MB will still be in power in Egypt, the MB will still work with Iran, and the MB will continue to rise in power, and their work to eliminate Israel. that won't fix it...
thanks for the discussion. Rex.
Rex- "needlessly insult"- why is it needless- even so in your view-insulting "their" religion justifies murder- based on you other posts I do not believe that is your view- but that is the extension of your post- why do these "people" get a pass from the Obama administration- it is only a movie who cares- they need to get over it-
as i said catt, you just DO NOT, have PRIVILEDGE to that INFORMATION.
YE, who hide behind your decission to sit on the fence, then jump off and rant when it suits you. Please!
Rex: I agree with your thought out analysis of the situation in the middle east, it would suit all of us to study and learn more about the rest of the world and not believe that the United States can spout out at the mouth and the rest of the world should swallow it...
2ez: Yes, we should walk on egg shells, because we need their oil, we cannot go around insulting people and expect there should not be repercussions, I am not saying what those hooligans did was right, but we as Americans we should keep our trap(mouth) shut until we are in a position that is more secure, in other words, free speech is for Americans in America, do not expect your free speech to be welcomed any place else..
Catt: What are you blaming Obama for today? Obama did not start a relationship with Libya, there was a relationship with that Country and the US long before Obama, he had to maintain that relationship and contain a volatile situation with the people wanting to remove their leader...
Hi CM...not blaming Obama for a relationship with Libya...but he is the one who chose to support the revolution, and the Muslim Brotherhood in both Egypt and Libya. thats who carried out these attacks. While the attacks are not Obama's fault, the people that carried out the attacks are the very ones he supported and praised as "Inspirational"...
Hi Catt: From what I have read, these attacks were carried out by a group of radicals, who I would say were just itching for a reason to attack Americans, The Ambassador, as reported, was taken to the hospital by Libyan citizens, so not all in that country is against the U.S.
This film, from my readings, was considered to be an insult to the Muslim people's beliefs, why would this Pastor and his group, make such a film and release, if they were not wanting the reactions we got, I think this Pastor should be questioned, if not more, as to their motives.
I don't care who wants to say I am trying to curtail "free speech" we enjoy such within our own borders and should not expect the world to honor our beliefs...
Hi Catt: From what I have read, these attacks were carried out by a group of radicals, who I would say were just itching for a reason to attack Americans
thats exactly who the Muslim Brotherhood is, CM...radicals, itching for a fight...
Disgraceful, reaction to an inflamatory situation while US citizens in foreign countries are still at risk. If political achievment has become more important than human lives, we have become worse than any enemy. Prayer was the appropriate response. Blood of more violence will be on the hands of those who fan the flames.
Blood of more violence will be on the hands of those
well, it's already on the President's hands...
I agree GWB has a lot of blood on his hands when he decided to invade Iraq without the support of the middle east he opened up a can of worms that will take generations to heal.
Remember, too, that Bush/Cheney lied about existence of WMDs to justify the illegal and immoral invasion of Iraq. The right-wing neo-cons were planning that invasion of Iraq for years before they manipulated the nation into falling for the lies.
Who are Romney's foreign policy advisors? Seventeen (17) are carry-over neo-cons from Bush/Cheney. Tell me that doesn't spell trouble for the United States if Romney is elected.
Correct me if I am wrong, but did we not intervene in Libya to prevent Qaddafi from turning Benghazi into a ghost town?
Mittens is the biggest FOOL there is he couldn't keep he mouth shut to find out what was going on, I think his camp should shut down now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Romney you and Ann go sit in the islands or on the slopes and watch your money. Do us a favor.
Please stop by and pick up Come_And_Take_Them. His hatred of the POTUS blinds him of all sense. Rex in Minnesota broke it down so well, even a 3 year old would understand. But not CATT,he just want to spew his vicious hatred like most people like him. I am glad a cooler head prevailed as well,on this board(Rex in Minnesota) and the administration. This world just gets scarier and scarier with ppl like CATT residing in it.
This tragic happening is just an excuse for the Monday morning quarterbacks to try and play in the game. They want this to work to their advantage.....they don't really care that it happened, just that it gives them the behind the curtain opportunity to use it and milk it for all it worth right now. Especially when they are working at such a disadvantage in this election.
you are exactly right, TM.
Oh Thankful Mom, you sad sad little lady. My heart is broken, to see the US embassys taken over by a band of Thugs. Then to see our Administration apologize that we have freedom of speech. Our flag desecrated and the flag of Mulsim Thugs flown on our flag pole. and you TM say we don't care.
I know your little livered President HopeyChangey doesn't care. If he did he would have been on TV last night or early this morning saying that this is an act of war and it will not be tolerated and we are going to hunt these Muslim Basterds down and seek justice. But no, he "unequivocally oppose the kind of senseless violence" Slack jawed, weak kneed Prince-i-dent. We are going to kick his ass out of DC, can't come quick enough, and bring a He Man in to do the job.
Texas,
That would be funny if it wasn't so nuts.
I don't think most of America quite sees Mitt as a he man! LOL
I have bad news, too: Romney only has a 20% chance of winning.
How about chewing on that fact or a while.
India LeCarre
Granted Romney aint no Texan, but he is not a Chicago Thug either. I am thrilled you are giving Romney a 20% chance, in a Texas drought we will take it. I just put in a fresh chew and as I enjoy it, I'm thinking I like our chances. Watch Obama over the next few days and weeks, he will run from his responsibility, golf a time or six and visit Hollywood a bunch. He will keep ole Air Force one a hopping, and show the world and the Americans who he is and what he is made of.... Yep I like our chances.
Just keep telling yourself that and you'll be fine. Till Nov.6 that is. Then you can start up with you're 'Obama is a socialist', 'Obama is a communist' Obama is the anti-christ' outdated simpleton rhetoric.
your correct John
but we be able to answer back with just one answer.
Obama is President again!!!!
Losers backing losers 'ol buddy. It's the teabagger way.
Roger That!
Are ALL Republicans in Texas as full of $hit as Texas Scarborough? They just bluster and lie their way through life like it's something to be proud of. The Democrats are the only sane ones down there!
Yes they are MJB, FOS and dumb as a box of rocks. Look how many times they put Perry in office.
they are the Republican party 2012..so sad..they need a complete overall..they lie..out right lies.they think we are stupid..they say anything because he is black..and ONLY that reason.. yeah and im SERIOUS...your as dumb as romney if you believe what he says..Now if he talked in what he really believed in instead of the rights bull@!$%#..then maybe..
Why am I not surprised that the Romney campaign would stoop so low as to politicize this whole situation so quickly? The guy is so desperate to become President, that he would say and do anything to win. Pathetic.
what I do not understand is why so many people follow his every word...I'm sorry but I do not trust a man that hides his money so he DOESN'T have to pay our taxes on it...and he flies a Caymen Island flag on his boat...he cannot stand behind anything he says and always changes his opinion to suit the crowd...and he wants to lead our country...he damn well doesn't support it unless it will somehow line his pocket
The attack that killed Ambassador Chris Stevens — the first U.S. diplomat to die in the line of duty since 1979 — came on Tuesday's 11th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist strike and presented a new foreign policy crisis for the United States in a region trying to recover from months of upheaval. Libya's interim president, Mohammed el-Megarif, apologized for what he called the "cowardly" assault on the consulate, which also killed several Libyan security guards in the eastern city. Violence also flared in Egypt, where crowds protesting the film at the U.S. Embassy in Cairo climbed its walls and tore down an American flag, which they replaced briefly with a black, Islamist flag. The protests weree touched off by an obscure movie made in the United States by a filmmaker who calls Islam a "cancer." Video excerpts posted on YouTube depict the Prophet Muhammad as a fraud, a womanizer and a madman in an overtly ridiculing way, showing him having sex and calling for massacres. Details of the attack in Benghazi were still emerging Wednesday. Stevens, 52, died as he and a group of embassy employees went to the consulate to try to evacuate staff when hundreds of people attacked with machine guns and rocket-propelled grenades. By the end of the assault, much of the building was burned out and trashed. Dr. Ziad Abu Zeid, who treated Stevens, told The Associated Press that he died of asphyxiation, apparently from smoke. In a sign of the chaos during the attack, Stevens was brought by Libyans to the Benghazi Medical Center with no other Americans, and no one at the facility knew who he was, Abu Zeid said. Stevens was practically dead when he arrived before 1 a.m. Wednesday, and "we tried to revive him for an hour and a half, but with no success," Abu Zeid said. The ambassador was bleeding in his stomach because of the asphyxiation but had no other injuries, he said. The State Department identified one of the other Americans killed as Sean Smith, a foreign service information management officer. The identities of the others were being withheld pending notification of next of kin. "I strongly condemn the outrageous attack on our diplomatic facility in Benghazi," Obama said in Washington, adding the four Americans "exemplified America's commitment to freedom, justice, and partnership with nations and people around the globe."
Obama ordered increased security to protect American diplomatic personnel around world.
"Make no mistake we will work with the Libyan government to bring to justice the killers who attacked our people," he said.
Obama added: "We reject all efforts to denigrate the religious beliefs of others, but there is absolutely no justification for this type of senseless violence, none."
El-Megarif offered his condolences to the U.S. and also vowed to bring the culprits to justice and maintain his country's close relations with Washington.
"We extend our apology to America, the American people and the whole world," el-Megarif said.
The brazen assaults — the first on U.S. diplomatic facilities in Libya and Egypt — were signs of the lawlessness that has taken hold in Libya and Egypt after revolutions ousted their autocratic secular regimes and upended the tightly controlled police state in both countries.
Islamists, who were long repressed under the previous regimes, have emerged as a powerful force and made up the bulk of the protesters in both countries.
Moreover, security in both countries has broken down. Egypt's police, a once hated force blamed for massive human rights abuses, have yet to fully take back the streets after Hosni Mubarak's ouster in February 2011.
On Tuesday in Cairo, riot police stood by the embassy's walls but continued to allow protesters to climb them for several hours. The protesters, however, appeared to intentionally stick to certain limits: A few entered the embassy grounds to remove the flags and come back, but otherwise the chanting youth stayed on top of the walls without storming the compound or damaging property.
The uproar over the film also poses a new test for Egypt's Islamist president, Mohammed Morsi, who has yet to condemn the riot outside the U.S. Embassy in Cairo or say anything about the offending film.
In Libya, central government control is weak, arms are ubiquitous and militias are pervasive. The consulate in Benghazi, Libya's second largest city, is a one-story villa in a large garden located in an upscale neighborhood. By the end of Tuesday night's attack, much of the building was black and smoldering. Libyans wandered freely around the burned-out building, taking photos of rooms where furniture was covered in soot and overturned.
The violence raised worries that further protests could break out around the Muslim world as knowledge of the anti-Islam movie spread.
About 50 protesters burned American flags outside the U.S. Embassy in Tunisia's capital Wednesday but were kept away from the building by reinforced security. And in Gaza City, dozens of protesters carrying swords, axes and black flags chanted "Shame on everyone who insults the prophet." The rally was organized by supporters of a militant group aligned with the ruling Hamas movement.
Afghanistan's government sought to avert an outbreak of protests. President Hamid Karzai condemned the movie, which he describes as "inhuman and insulting." Authorities also temporarily shut down access to YouTube, the video-sharing site where excerpts of the movie were posted, said Aimal Marjan, general director of Information Technology at the Ministry of Communications.
Ultraconservative Islamists also were suspected of being behind the Benghazi attack. Advocating a strict interpretation of Islam, they have bulldozed Sufi shrines and mosques that house tombs in the Libyan capital, Tripoli, and other cities, including ancient sites dating back to 5,000 years ago.
Heavily armed, ultraconservative groups like Ansar al-Shariah, or Supporters of Shariah, have claimed responsibility for the attacks on the shrines, declaring Sufi practices as "heretical."
Libya has been also hit by a series of recent attacks that served as evidence of the deep and persistent security vacuum in the country after the fall of Moammar Gadhafi's regime, which was ousted by rebels backed by a NATO air campaign. Many Libyans believe that unrest in their country is in part the work of Gadhafi's loyalists who want to undermine efforts to rebuild the country after last year's ruinous civil war.
Stevens was a career diplomat who spoke Arabic and French and had already served two tours in Libya, including running the office in Benghazi during the revolt against Gadhafi. He was confirmed as ambassador to Libya by the Senate earlier this year.
Before Tuesday, five U.S. ambassadors had been killed in the line of duty, the last being Adolph Dubs in Afghanistan in 1979, according to the State Department.
The two-hour movie that sparked the protests, titled "Innocence of Muslims," came to attention in Egypt after its trailer was dubbed into Arabic and posted on YouTube.
A man identifying himself as Sam Bacile, a 56-year-old California real estate developer, said he wrote, produced and directed the movie.
He told the AP he was an Israeli Jew and an American citizen. But Israeli officials said they had not heard of Bacile and there was no record of him being a citizen. They spoke on condition of anonymity because they are not permitted to share personal information with the media.
Separately, the film was being promoted by an extreme anti-Muslim Egyptian Christian campaigner in the United States.

A mob enraged by a film ridiculing Islam's prophet killed the U.S. ambassador to Libya and three other Americans in a fiery attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi. President Barack Obama strongly condemned the violence, vowed Wednesday to bring the killers to justice and tightened security at diplomatic posts around the world.
Mobs don't have machine guns and RPG's. Libya was an planned attack on the anniversary of 9/11.
seems to be leaning that way Alykatma, and the video was just a spark needed to pull it off with out notice it was done by a group for the anniversary.
at this time we still do not know who exactly it was that made the attack.
When challenged by the press, Romney defended "It's their administration. Their administration spoke. The president takes responsibility not just for the words that come from his mouth, but also for the words that come from his ambassadors, from his administration, from his embassies, from his State Department. They clearly sent mixed messages to the world. And the statement that came from the administration-and the embassy is the administration-the statement that came from the administration was a statement which is akin to an apology and which I think is a sever miscalculation."
After the embassy statement met criticism, a follow-up tweet from the U.S. Embassy in Cairo's official Twitter account said, "Sorry, but neither breaches of our compound or angry messages will dissuade us from defending freedom of speech AND criticizing bigotry."
Both Mitt Romney and Republican National Committee chair Reince Priebus released harsh statements on Tuesday condemning what they said was President Obama's decision to "sympathize" with the people who attacked America's embassy in Cairo.
"It's disgraceful that the Obama Administration's first response was not to condemn attacks on our diplomatic missions, but to sympathize with those who waged the attacks," said Romney in astatement. Shortly after midnight, Priebus tweeted, "Obama sympathizes with attackers in Egypt. Sad and pathetic."
Romney and Priebus were evidently responding to a remark by embassy staff, posted online, in which they said, "The Embassy of the United States in Cairo condemns the continuing efforts by misguided individuals to hurt the religious feelings of Muslims – as we condemn efforts to offend believers of all religions." The attack on the embassy was reportedly inspired by a YouTube video, produced in the United States, which the attackers believed blasphemed Islam and mocked the prophet Muhammad.
See what I did there??? By flipping the two halves of this article of information the "story" isn't so HYPED up. It would be wonderful if the news-desk for the Presidential Administration would stay ahead of the story, some of the time -- at least.
wasn't that remark from the embassy made BEFORE the attack started, something romney neglected to mention.
He doesn't care......that is why he posted no links, and no dates. He justs wants you to believe it is current.
We don't need Pre-bust and rob me, interfering with foreign affairs that THEY KNOW NOTHING ABOUT. They need to shut up before they create a worse problem. The two stupid knot holes.

Republicans on Capitol Hill strongly condemned the attacks on U.S. diplomatic facilities in Libya and Egypt that killed a U.S. ambassador and three other Americans.
But they’re leaving GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney out on a limb after he criticized President Barack Obama’s “disgraceful” handling of the assault — before it was known U.S. Ambassador to Libya Christopher Stevens was among the dead.

Romney again shows his inexperience in knowing when to speak and when to keep his mouth shut. In a time like this when all Americans must support each other Romney doesn't know when to respect the Office of the Presidency when he is just a candidate and doesn't hold any office. When he was Governor of Massachusetts he left the state in dyer straights with lost jobs, a deficit and 47th in our country of poor management. Yet he wants to be Presdident. His foreign policy is war, war and more war.
SO this guy who made the youtube video can't express his freedom of speech...but Obama supports those who kill US Embassy members...
got it. crystal clear message now...freedom of speech = bad...oppression of thought = good. thank you for clarifying, Mr. President.
More catt fake outrage made up in his own delusional mind.
yep, whom, you are right...4 dead, and my outrage is fake...
killed by the very group Obama publicly supported and promoted...
I think I am officially done with you this time whom...you havent learned a thing, and you never will...the fact that you can scoff at the death of 4 US Embassy workers, and defend a President who cozied up to their killers makes your little moments of humor just not fun any more...
enjoy your bitter life...
Again.... Freedom of speech comes with responsibility!
did you know you sound like a 12 year old ?
Please don't insult 12 year olds. The average 12 yo has more common sense than these nuts.
gee CATT you are off base no where did whom say or even bring the dead up.
but he was referring to your other smiling delusional parts.
seems you are running off haft cocked like robmehood.
Pilot-
I respect you for your military service. thank you- you did more than I did when I was in, and what you did was a heck of a lot harder...so for that, much respect.
whom was calling my outrage over the attack on freedom of speech...apparently, according to the lefties, this all happened because of a video. now, call ME crazy, but no little video made by someone justifies murder. sorry, I just don't see it. I am trying to point out that Obama's state department felt the need to APOLOGIZE over a video, but will sit on their hands as our Ambassador is murdered over the video.
It's like Trayvon Martin on an international scale...there is plenty of outrage over an unjust killing...but when its Islamists committing the murder, well then, that's okay..the Ambassador probably deserved it, because he was an American, and any Muslim that kills Americans is okay, as long as he was "offended" by a video...
I agree with Secretary Clinton that nothing justifies the attack. I also agree that free speech is a wonderful thing.
That said, I'd just like to know what purpose was served by that video other than to piss off Muslims.
CATT thanks,
but it seems you are going off haft cocked, as the state dept DID NOT APOLOGIZE over it. it was not a official statement.
you are correct that a video shouldn't cause a dead, however when one knows their video will cause great diereses and could have a very negative impact then one should think before moving.
that only showers they the pastor(not sure if i would call him that) and the movie maker wanted this to happen.
so maybe we all need to wait until we know whats happening in places we can not see the true behind the scene.
You sir, Come_And_Take_Them, are nothing but a pathetic, ridiculous, misguided TROLL!!!! Neither the President, nor his administration support the embassy bombers. In fact, if you would actually do some research, you might learn the Truth:
"I strongly condemn the outrageous attack on our diplomatic facility in Benghazi," Obama said in the statement. The four Americans, he said, "exemplified America's commitment to freedom, justice, and partnership with nations and people around the globe."
That certainly doesn't sound like an apology to me. The only apologies that should come out of this is from Romney and his ilk for puking out all the lies that they continuously spew all over the place, and continuously get caught and called out on, but keep right on spewing. That is where the apology should come from. President Obama neither made an apology as you keep regurgitating, nor will he ever do so.
Do some real research, get some real facts, and try posting some references to support Your lies CATT! Bet you Can't! I DARE YOU to find any reputable sources for the @!$%# that you are trying to pass off as fact. I DOUBLE DOG DARE YOU!
Pilot-
I agree we need the full story...but i've seen the video of the flag being ripped down, shredded and burned...I've seen the video of the Brotherhood marching in the hundreds and thousands, holding black flags...i've seen the slogans of "there is no God but Allah"...
I can also connect the dots between who helped promote the MB in Egypt AND Libya...sorry, but in this world, 2+2 still equals 4...
It doesn't matter if it was an "Official" statement...the statement that "The U.S. Embassy in Cairo at first issued a statement saying, in part, that it condemns "the continuing efforts by misguided individuals to hurt the religious feelings of Muslims" smacks of an apology, no two ways about it..
and what did that apology get them??? angry Islamists overrunning their embassy...you can't rationalize with animals...and thats what Islamists are...not MUSLIMS- but Islamists...there is a difference, and the MB are Islamists...
Try again CATT!
and I cut and paste to again say to you...
Do some real research, get some real facts, and try posting some references to support Your lies CATT! Bet you Can't! I DARE YOU to find any reputable sources for the @!$%# that you are trying to pass off as fact. I DOUBLE DOG DARE YOU!
This bit of fact is from the Huffington Post:
"We reject all efforts to denigrate the religious beliefs of others," Obama said, referencing the anti-Islamic video, "but there is no justification for this kind of violence. None."
Libyan security workers had helped bring other American diplomats to safety during the crisis, Obama noted, and had transported the ambassador to the hospital.
"It is especially tragic that Chris Stevens died in Benghazi because it's a city he helped to save at the height of the Libyan revolution," Obama said.
Earlier in the morning at the State Department, a shaken Clinton talked about Stevens and the other diplomats who had been killed and strongly denounced the attacks at the outpost in Libya.
"This is an attack that should shock the conscience of people of all faiths around the world," she said. "We condemn in the strongest terms this senseless act of violence."
Hmmm. Can anyone point out an apology here?
Sorry, but until you are able to post real, honest, facts to support your, um, statements, you need to just go away and let the grown ups handle the conversation. That goes for the rest of you Romney and TeaBagger supporters too.
It's one thing to share your opinion, it's another thing entirely to try and pass an opinion off as reality, or facts when, well, the facts just don't add up. Yes, 2 + 2 does still equal 4. You did get that part right.
Just-Left...thanks for the response, and the challenge...
I never said that Obama apologized...I commented that the US Embassy released a statement...It was brought to my attention that it wasn't an official statement by the US State Department. a US Embassy in a given country represents us. a statement they release is akin to a statement, to an apology. so i never said OBama made the apology. pleae go back and read my posts closer. If i posted anything along those lines, I apologize.
now for the "Double-dog dare" part...first off, you should have skipped the double-dog dare and went straight for the triple-dog dare.
did OBama support the Egyptian uprising??? yes, he did...

did Obama support the Muslim Brotherhood??? Yes, he did...
www.foxnews.com/politics/2012/06/24/white-house-urges-muslim-brotherhood-winner-in-egypt-vote-to-respect-minorities/
In a written statement, White House Press Secretary Jay Carney congratulated Mohammed Morsi on his victory.
"We look forward to working together with President-elect Morsi and the government he forms"...
and the Muslim Brotherhood in all this???
Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood released a statement Wednesday regarding the massive protests at its U.S. Embassy on September 11, and the anti-Islam movie that allegedly sparked them.
Though the United States has been surprisingly supportive of the Muslim Brotherhood since it took power after the fall of former leader Hosni Mubarak in 2011, the organization is spending far more time criticizing the film and encouraging more protests, than trying to calm the fires
Sorry, Just left...these Islamist radicals are the same ones Obama supported in their "glorious" revolution...
guess its your tongue stuck to the pole this winter...take care. God bless.
be careful there, CATT, when YOU remove YOUR tongue from the pole.
you have really STUCK IT this time.
nice play suzette...lol...how, exactly, have I "Stuck it"??? Just left asked for evidence to back up my statements. I did just that...Left hasn't been back to "collect" On his double dog dare...so i can only assume he is a bombthower, like so many on your side...issuing challenges, and then when successfully challenged, ignoring the response or sulking over it.
CATT, No one died in Egypt. The Libya attack was a planned attack probably by Al Qaeda and/or Gaddaffi's ex-goons on the anniversary of 9/11. Mobs don't have RPGs and machine guns.
alykatma-
thats exactly right...meaning this whole "Inflammatory video" that the left is crying about is a complete sham...
CATT
sorry what it means is that in Egypt it was spontaneous over the video,, in Libya it will be found to be a planed attack. by who knows AQ? my swag is gaddfi backers.
that attack was to well planed to be spontaneous with the weapons they used. and the Video was just a gift.
first and most important is may god be with the 4 lives we lost and their familys! As far as Romney he is just like Bush lets just start another war when we haven't even finished with the once we are in yet. He is a Freaking idiot and we don't need someone like him in the White House. He don't know his ass from a hole in the ground. He is a long time friends with the president of Isreal and this is all to boost Romney in the election. It's just a damn shame they are doing it at the cost of American lives. They are disgusting and it sickens me that the Republican will buy this election at any cost. I hope people really see this nut case for who he really is come November, because if he win this world will be WORSE than any of the countries overseas. We will lose everything and the United State will be gone as we know it today!
