The latest Marist poll results for “the iron triangle of battleground states”—as MSNBC’s Chuck Todd called Florida, Ohio and Virginia on Thursday's The Last Word— have just been released, and they show President Obama holding a solid lead over Mitt Romney.
According to the poll, Obama leads Romney by five points in Florida and Virginia, and is outpacing him by seven points in Ohio. This is also the first time over 40% of all three states have simultaneously reported that the nation is on the right track.
Chuck Todd told Last Word host Lawrence O'Donnell that the boost to that last number was “the Clinton bump,” coming after the former president’s rousing speech to the Democratic Convention.
Most observers weren’t expecting significant bumps from the conventions, assuming they’d cancel each other out. However, it appears that female vote may be making the difference. O’Donnell asked Todd about Obama’s lead among women voters in the three states.
"Double digits in all of them," Todd replied. "Romney’s lead among men is in low single digits and you see that he’s got the widest gender gap in Ohio. But in all of these cases it’s double digit leads for the president among women, but only single digit leads among men for Romney."
Women aren’t the only problem for Romney. He’s still lagging way behind with Latino voters, and the Marist poll showed him down 12 points in Tampa, home of the 2012 Republican Convention. To add further to the Romney campaign's headaches, third party candidate Virgil Goode will be on the ballot in Virginia, where he could pull Republican votes away from Romney.
One last thing to consider: Romney’s heavily criticized attack on Obama's response to the riots in Libya and Egypt came after poll results were calculated. To more accurately gauge the fallout of this latest foreign policy misfire, we’ll have to wait for further polling.

Funny, Clinton has had to go down to FL to help Obama. He can't turn the corner on his own. The sad thing is, Clinton is not on the ballot. I still can't figure out what anyone believes Obama has done to improve our condition. The economy tells us that the billions of dollars of his stimulus has done nothing for us. And the argument that it would have been much worse without it doesn't hold water. There is no way to prove that.

How could you say Obama didn't accomplish anything with the stimulus if he didn't bail out the auto companies there would be millions with no jobs, its just not the big companies like GM its all the little ones too that was saved like the people that make the parts for the cars. you need to think of all the parts that make a car and then realize how many small manufacturing plants that were saved

In certain democracies Romney will not be elected a dog catcher let alone President. Not only is he vague, but he lies and is not ashamed of it. Sometimes I wonder what is in the heads of those Republicans behind such a nasty lier who would do anything, including lying about himself, to get elected. I guess the Republicans are still buried in the 17th and 18th century politics where lying and cheating in election was ok.

Sometimes I get scared. Sometimes I see a political map and it seems that red is the only color in the spectrum.
Sometimes, during those brief times when I watch Fox (strictly for amusement), I think of the millions of idiots who watch this network, and they actually believe what they see and hear as truth, and it comes to me that in a democracy even idiots are allowed to vote, and their votes are actually counted.
Talk about scared; sometimes I imagine what this country would look nlike had McCain won the election instead of Obama.
But even worse, I think of the devistation that would take place if Romney/Ryan moved into the White House next year. People; American men, women and children would die. Global warming would continue at a much more rapid pace. Don't they understand that Global Warming, if allowed to continue as it is, aggravated by corprate greed, WILL decimate the human race as well as all life on the planet?
I worry about those kids born of rape and incest, children whose genetic makeup is dominatd by such loathsome criminals. What can we expect of such children? There is so much to fear today.
I have been a politics junkie for 60 years - since I was fifteen. The net has lifted my spirits. I can always go to a site like this one and read Helena vargas,cd in SA, marvilus and Marty Rupright and see proof that intellect, rationality and logic still exist. But there is always a Raging Goose to remind me that idiocy, too, continues and that a dangerous faction is there and that the enemies of America continue their war against freedom and democracy. As Raging Goose continues to show his idiocy, we know there are others who are not so stupid and could hurt us. Thank God Romney isn't one of them.

More to being a President and Commander in Chief
This past week our Country again finds itself in conflict with Muslim Countries as an anti-Muslim film is made in the USA and sent out over the internet. A man with a long criminal past, according to law enforcement officials on Thursday, Nakoula has been confirmed as the writer and director of Innocence of Muslims. Tracked down Wednesday at his Los Angeles-area home by the Associated Press, the man identified himself as “Nakoula Nakoula.” This man used our “First Amendment” rights of free speech to make this incendiary and HATEFUL piece of GARBAGE.
That being said, I find it simply OUTRAGEOUS and IRRESPONSIBLE that a Candidate for President of the United States would erroneously criticize a sitting President in a moment of International Crisis, a Candidate from the REPUBLICAN PARTY who’s has spawned the likes of a Rev. in the South who wanted to have a Koran burning day and who’s own Representatives in the House have sent accusatory letters about a highly respected Muslim Staff member Huma Abdin to the Secretary of State Hilary Clinton. The continuing anti-Muslim rhetoric coming the Republican Party is not helpful to maintaining good relations abroad, with Muslim Countries in particular. As a Catholic I am still sick with grief about 911, thankfully with the Lords help it never turned to hate. I want to remind the Republicans of their “Christian Values”, “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called the sons of GOD” Matthew 5:9
This week on Andrea Mitchell, Chuck Todd had the audacity to say the “Republicans” have a door open here because President Obama has been slow to act. Really? That’s like saying the vase was thrown out of the window and was broken by the Republicans, but President Obama is to blame because he did catch the vase. Really Chuck get real we aren’t that stupid, we watch MSNBC so we do know what has been going on. MSNBC does a GREAT job of educating us. So to put something out there like that is insulting us, Chuck!
The OUTRAGE may end there but the disappointment with the once Honorable Man John McCain, who in all fairness did stick up for Huma Abdin, coming out in defense of the indefensible is a total disillusionment and disappointment at the end of this once GREAT Americans career. McCain, better than anyone understands that Barack Obama is not only the President but the Commander in Chief; And in a moment of crisis when there are “AMERICANS” in harms way, that this is not the time to play politics in order to save the Republican’s FLAWED Candidate. I found McCain’s actions insulting to the American People.
And for those of you that continue to be undecided, this should have done it for you. Mitt Romney is NOT exactly what you would call a “profile in courage”; his propensity to flip flop on every issue this year leaves one wondering if he is not a “profile in cowardice”. The actions and statements of Mitt Romney have been irresponsible, incendiary, reckless, un-Presidential. But more importantly as the time-lines about his statements came to light, we find that Mitt Romney is basically and simply a LIAR. This man cannot stop lying, the press has afforded him every level of respect, they have called his statement mis-statement, un-truths, mis-characterization every euphuism in the book for a LIE.
My fellow Americans in our world away from the cameras and away from Washington DC…they are simply LIES. And this LIAR Mitt Romney is unworthy to be our President and certainly by his actions of this week is not CAPABLE of being the Commander in Chief of the Armed Force of the United States of America and INCAPABLE of defending your family and mine. He talks big, but there is NO example that this man can show us, they he has stood up for ANYTHING. Talk is cheap Mr. Romney…I YAHOO THOM promise NO MORE WARS, A CHICKEN in every pot, and Cadillac in every garage….VOTE For ME! You see Mitt anyone can do that, even me!
Our number one priority may be jobs and the economy, but the World around us can be a dangerous place and although we tend to live our lives in a bubble, we are choosing the leader of the Free World. President Obama has been honest, steadfast, stoic in the face of danger. Whether you disagree with his policies, you have to admit this is a GOOD MAN, a man that has proven himself to be a GREAT AMERICAN, a man that loves his Country. Do you really want to trade him out at this important time in history for a LIAR?
Republicans are always suggesting, to the American voter, Jimmy Carter was one of the worse presidents America’s ever had. So it’s time Democrats reveal, not suggest what has happened under the last four Republican presidents.
1- Nixon had to resign because of Watergate.
2- Ronald Reagan presided over the Iran/Contra illegal arms sales.
3- George Bush 41 watched as millions of Americans were taken advantage of by the savings and loan debacle.
4- George Bush 43 illegally invaded Iraq causing over 4,000 of America’s sons and daughters to lose their lives and made it possible for the financial industry to nearly collapse.
When I compare Jimmy carter to those four it elevates him into the Washington, Lincoln and Roosevelt status.
