Gov. Mitt Romney says he’s worried about accuracy — President Barack Obama’s, that is.
"I think the challenge that I'll have in the debate is that the President tends to, how shall I say it, to say things that aren't true," Romney said in an interview with ABC.
"I've looked at prior debates," he added. "And in that kind of case, it's difficult to say — well, am I going to spend my time correcting things that aren't quite accurate? Or am I going to spend my time talking about the things I want to talk about?"
Pretty bold words from a man whose campaign once said they were “not going to let our campaign be dictated by fact-checkers,” amidst countless of fact checks finding falsehoods in the candidate’s statements.
This isn't just a bold quote, it's a bold strategy, according to Melissa Harris-Perry. Romney knows he’s having trouble, she explained, and that these debates are crucial to his campaign, so he's trying to “make it seem as though the words Obama are going to say are suspect from the beginning,” she told Politics Nation host Rev. Al Sharpton on Friday, “Therefore, when he has trouble meeting the challenges of the debate, he can say well ‘this guy is just dishonest.’”
The Washington Post’s E.J. Dionne voiced his surprise at the bold statement, particularly in light of the week's attacks. “The very heart of the [Romney campaign’s] argument this week was this idea that the administration apologized somehow on this terrible embassy attack — they didn’t apologize for America!”
A recent poll found that 44 percent of Americans found Obama to be more trustworthy and honest, compared to only 33 percent of Americans who said Romney was.
Sharpton, quoting Bill Clinton’s attack on Paul Ryan during his Democratic National Convention speech, quipped, “it takes some brass attacking a guy for what you did.”

That's a given. But both will. Wonder if the NY Times article about Obama will make these blogs? Doubt it. Funny how even the liberal media is tiring of Obama's antics. Except, of course, msnbc
A good way to check the facts is at factcheck.org, its an independent and nonpartisanship organization.
The Media will make lying look normal, they have to because Obama's past is littered with lies. So that is what is going on, Dear Leader is a Chicago Thug, the only way to overcome that is to tarnish everything around him.
Do tell. Which 'antics'? The Romney campaign has already stated that it isn't using or running on fact checking.
As for GITMO, you dudes seem to have amnesia: Obama tried repeatedly to get Congress to fund the closure, to permit transfer of the prisoners to secure facilities in the USA, and even located a prison facility for doing so. The Congress BARRED him from taking action.
So, he has been trying to rid us of this national stain through attrition; trials, transfers to home countries etc.
If this is Obama's "BIG LIE" (what a laugh) your claims are in serious trouble. Compare to 34 straight weeks of chronicling Mitt's mendacity .....
Jim- above was one such lie- close Gitmo in his first year. Just because you choose to excuse it doesn't mean anything. There have been lots of lists of Obama accomplishments, heck, I think he even invented baseball (sex was invented by Clinton, so he couldn't take credit for that), so to now claim someone stood in his way is a cop out. His leadership can either get things done (as you will claim) or it can't. You can't claim both sides of the argument.
rusty, did you read. The CONGRESS would not let him close Gitmo. They are to afraid to bring those prisoners to the US even though a secure prison was at hand. The repubss, mostly, are a bunch of lily-livered wimps who talk tough, but would pee all over themselves when faced with an actual bad guy. But then again, why should repubs ever admit to facts as you do not.
Hey congress, could we close Gitmo? No- ok. Guess that answers that.
Is that the leadership you really aspire to have? Congress told him no on lots of things. If he would have been committed to the concept as more than a rally yell, he would have seen it happen.
Lol- congress told him "no".
I never cease to be suprised at the twists that come out of the Romney camp. His never-ending strategic plan seems to be to pre-accuse the President of what Romney is clearly planning to do himself. I am guessing that the GOP figures that most voters have paid attention enough to catch on to all of this. If cable news doesn't get turned on, in the homes of the potentially watching, Independent, voters, maybe it will.
Fred, that's in the repub handbook: accuse your opponent of doing what you are obviously doing, specifically, lying. Between the two of them, the romney-ryan ticket is the biggest lying duo ever to run for office. Even when confronted with their lies, they still deny them. Every time romney says something, trying to appease independents, his committee comes right out and says he didn't mean it.Ryan gets shown letters he signed asking for stimulus money and still tries to lie and say he didn't. These two make Nixon look like Honest Abe.
It's Rovian politics, as in Karl Rove. Whenever you are about to do something, accuse the other side of it, first.
Mitt has already been caught in several lies and blatant misrepresentations.

Federal Reserve plans more stimulus
Another round of Stimulus won't create jobs
Above data came from CNN? It can't be reliable, right? They're not FOX News.
As is usual someone has to follow...republicans around the blogs ironing out "wrinkles". Here are the straightened out implications:
Datas don't lie. Above data reported by Caitlin Stark was pulled from US Dept of Labor's 2012 Report. Pure statistics, nothing else.
"Pure statistics", smure statistics. You sought to imply, and I followed up on that. :-) Let others decide.
Romney has given up on "giving answers" and has decided it's more expedient to say everything Obama utters is a lie. Mormons believe in "Lying for the Lord", it's part of their heritage so why is anone suprised that Romney is a prevaricator. I don't think Romney realizes what the internet has done to his campaign, his and Ryans lies are checked and the results are published seconds after they have been spoken.
Romney persists in repeating the same lies over and over, even after they've been debunked. This is perhaps the most interesting and disturbing element of Romney's tireless obfuscation: that even when corrected, it has little impact on the presumptive GOP nominee's behavior. This is happening at a time when fact-checking operations in major media outlets have increased significantly, yet that appears to have no effect on the Romney campaign
(Michael Cohen 2012)
I think much more can be written about this 'lying for the lord' topic. It explains so much of Mitt and his ralationship with the truth. It is bad enough when Mormons do it ( as do other religions, though they don't seem to take as much pride in spinning untruths as do many LDSs) but downright dangerous when this way of thinking carries over to politics. The world has not seen such blatant lying & cannot cope with it; this explains the inability of the media to make an effect on what they're doing.
Romney was my Governro for 4 years.. he didnt do very much - he raised a lot of "fees" (aka: taxes), spent the second half of his term going around the country and bad-mouthing the state, he DID signed a healthcare law that is the basis for Afordable Care Act (aka: Obamacare).... but he doesnt even talk about that.
Besides that public office ended 6 YEARS AGO!... what has he actually DONE for the last 6 years??? NOTHING.
Romney is an inauthentic flake and the President's brilliance glows. When it gets down to it, the only voting bloc Romney may carry is the far out right fringe.
