Rep. Paul Broun was once schooled in the sciences. But now, he says, a key scientific principle is the devil's work.
Broun, a Georgia Republican who is running for re-election, declared during a recent speech in Hartwell that "God’s word is true."
He continued:
All that stuff I was taught about evolution and embryology and Big Bang theory, all that is lies straight from the pit of hell. And it’s lies to try to keep me and all the folks who are taught that from understanding that they need a savior.
Broun also claimed (incorrectly) that the Earth in 9,000 years old.
And wouldn't you know it: Broun sits on the House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology—alongside Rep. Todd Akin. Akin, of course, recently claimed a woman can't get pregnant if she is raped.
MSNBC host Lawrence O'Donnell declared Monday night, "If Congressman Broun is a scientist, he is a mad scientist. A very, very mad scientist."

Broun and Akin on the Science, Space and Technology Committee and we wonder why we're trailing the world in science? You've got to be kidding. And this is what is leading our country? Aren't we lucky!
How much worse is the pit of Hell than Hell?...I CARE! I want to understand. This guy should know! He's a Congressman! HOW MUCH WORSE?..A lot worse? Jeepers!!
A funny exercise to take a religious fanatic through. . .
The oceans are full of life and every day, week and month these life forms are living and dieing. We can watch their bodies settle to the bottom. We can see the shells, large and small that they leave behind. We can measure the thickness of these bodies per year or for a decade or a century. We can then measure the thickness of the layer of detritus (dead stuff) and say with certainty how long the deep oceans have been there. This layer, away from where the continental plates are spreading is many meters thick and the rate of accumulation is around one thousand YEARS per millimeter.
The first inch of sediment takes us back over 22,000 years. I have a core in my office that goes back thousands of millennia.
No carbon dating for them to argue with; just simple facts that are easily verified by their own observations.
Remember folks, as fun as it is to disabuse the easily fooled and led of their absurd and ridiculous notions, it is in our collective best interest to try to reach and save as many as we can. This helps us all move forward into a more enlightened time and out of a sad age still dominated by fear and religion.
It was a Catholic Priest in Ireland that told me with a wink, 'Religion is a fine thing, lad. Taken in moderation. . .'
Who's to say, "with certainty how long the deep oceans have been there." Most of science as far as aging & past events are just speculation & theories. What if the detritus was deposited mostly during one event such as a meteor or better yet the 40 day flood?
Given that what Reps. Broun & Akin believe is pseudo-science at best, biblically in Broun's case, no clue in Akin's case, and that they've both been appointed to the Science, Space and Technology Committee, there is no justification for either of those two clowns to have been appointed to have been appointed to a Committee having anything to do with Science. Moreover, that Rep. Bachmann was appointed to the Intelligence Committee, in spite of the fact she has shown every sign possible that she is devoid of intelligence, the above 3 appointments are further proof that Rep. Boehner is amongst the least competent Speakers to have ever been inflicted on the House of Representatives. The House should have an Idiots Committee for the House Speaker to assign such incompetent Representatives to. But that would mean Boehner would have had to have appointed himself to that same Idiots Committee, thereby disqualifying himself as House Speaker?
What a conundrum politicians present to us!
Ro-man please take a basic geology class.
There are specific layers of material that correspond to specific events, such as a meteor, found in the fossil record. How could the detritus be deposited in one event, if it contains so many different layers with different fossils, different mineral compositions etc. etc.
Furthermore, science is based on a foundation of theories, like the theory of gravity. Sure you may say gravity is just a theory but I don't recommend climbing a tall building and testing it.
Within these layers, I can show you, microscopically, just like the rings of a tree, each major global event, from the turning of the seasons to an asteroid hit to volcanic eruptions. And you can see, with your own eyes, how the layers build. It is not so great a leap to understand that the deepest layers are the oldest. No need for carbon dating, just simple observations and basic logic.
What is even better is that carbon dating confirms the observations exactly.
What is better than that is that we can track the different species of carbon and oxygen and their respective ratios in the atmosphere and oceans and we can see what the mean global temperatures were like hundreds, thousands and even millions of years ago. We can perfectly extrapolate what the atmospheric carbon dioxide levels were for these times and clearly see the direct relationship between atmospheric carbon dioxide and mean global temperatures.
These studies perfectly replicated the results from the ice columns from the Vostok Glaciers and from gathered human data from the last several hundred years.
Science is beautiful.
BREAKING NEWS:
Obama campaign under investigation for illegal overseas campaign donations.
It must be the water in Georgia that fogs the mind. Why would the American voter want to support a party so backward and that live in a conspiracy, fairy tale world is beyond me. To be honest I think we need to replace the Republican party completely so America can go forward into the 21at century.
Save us from the "good people."
Save us from the "good people."
If you deny it long enough it is true. Sounds like a Bromneyism. Brough on by eating erasers and paste. You can always tell who the "D"uh students are. Go ahead and move you desk up, we won't tuant you and take scissors to your hair.
Oh wow, look, its Larry "The Fable Guy" O'donnell. BIG CONSPIRACY!!!!!!!
Wonder if his last name qualifies for minority status in the good old USA.
Oh well, he's just as irrelevant as Kieth Olbermann.
I have heard that during a recent National, Native American, Tribal Conference, that all Members from all attending Tribes unanimously designated the Senate and Congress as: "White men and women with many wires down".

Could it be possible that the lack of intelligence and immaturity exhibited by some governors, senators, congressmen and congresswomen are a reflection of the mentality of the people of their state that elected them? If true, I must conclude that the population of that state that voted for such incompetents -as well as the incompetents, would have to increase their IQ 100% just to qualify as morons!
