Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted has announced he'll appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court last week's court ruling that restored full early voting rights for all Ohioans.
“This is an unprecedented intrusion by the federal courts into how states run elections," Husted, a Republican, said in a statement issued Tuesday afternoon, "and because of its impact on all 50 states as to who and how elections will be run in America we are asking the Supreme Court to step in and allow Ohioans to run Ohio elections.
On Friday, a three-judge panel ruled that Ohio's plan to scrap the last three days of early voting before the November 6 election for everyone except military service-members violated the Constitution's equal protection clause. The Obama campaign had challenged the plan in a lawsuit.
Rick Hasen, a prominent election-law expert, wrote Friday that he was "surprised" by the Appeals Court ruling, and that it "may not survive further review ... should Ohio choose to appeal."
A study released Monday by the Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights found that in 2008 in Cuyahoga County—Ohio's most populous—black voters used this period at 26 times the rate of white voters. Many African-Americans vote en masse after attending church the Sunday before the election.

This is another example of how the Republicans have tried to rig this election so that they can get the representative back into office. I think that we as a society has sat around idol long enough while they have tried to create laws that is not good for the country as a whole. This is a clear violation to the Voter Rights Act Of 1965. Mr. Husted has broken the law of the land, and needs to be investigated by the US Justice Department. Mr. Husted by his actions has committed the most UnAmerican Act that one could do. Mr. Husted is not for a Democracy where all citizens have the GOD given right to vote. Instead Mr. Husted is a true 'Communist' that has committed 'treason.' Dr. King is now rolling over in his grave. He would be very disappointed that our nation is still debating the God given right for all citizens to vote. What would Dr. King think of Mr. Husted? What would Dr. King think of these new Voter Suppression Laws? It is evident so far that the GOP/RNC are out to destroy the voting process in an American Democracy. The Supreme Court could reject the Appeal leaving the lower court decision to stand.
A rejection would keep things the way they currently are in Ohio.

Voting is a guaranteed constitutional right period. Go read the Voter's Rights Act of 1965 and the 24th Amendment to the Constitution plus some of the supporting case law. The ALEC/GOP sponsored Voter ID laws are poll taxes in a different form only. Poll taxes are totally unconstitutional. If you have to spend money getting supporting documents for a free ID to vote you are paying a poll tax. Typically Voter ID laws require documents that cost $20 or more from county governments to reproduce. Besides registration usually requires new citizens to supply a form of proof of address. Election judges are good at sorting out cases of voter fraud. So the GOP has no legal leg to stand on and this is why you keep losing these cases and will continue to lose them in court.

The US Supreme Court, by a vote of 6-3, has ruled that the use of ID's in elections are perfectly constitutional (Crawford vs. Marion County Board of Education). States across the country are enacting these laws and are allowing citizens the ability to get an ID without ANY cost to them.

Why does any decent American want to disenfranchise another person's right to vote? The Department of Justice should intervene strongly in this case with an emergency ruling. Conservatives who want to suppress the vote in Ohio are sick, vile, bigots, who hate America and all it stands for. The idea here by the GOP is to confuse the public and try to suppress the vote that way. Democrats need to focus and double down like a laser beam cutting through steel and fight back as hard as we can with voter registration drives in a full court emergency mode pulling out all the stops to make sure all the voters get to the polls and all the votes get counted.

I'm one of the people in Ohio that my vote did not count in the 2004 election, al-though I voted in that same location for 3 years, and I also voted in the primary as a Democrat for John Kerry.
