The Mitt Romney campaign said the candidate would stop telling a story about meeting Navy SEAL Glen Doherty, who was killed last month in the Libya attacks, after Doherty's mother said she didn't want her son to be part of Romney's "political agenda."
In multiple stump speeches, Romney has talked about meeting Doherty at a party and connecting with him. "You can imagine how I felt when I found out he was one of the two Navy SEALs killed in Benghazi on September 11," Romney said in one speech.
In the same speech, Romney went on to describe how Doherty was actually in a different building across town from the consulate, but went there to help once he heard about the attack. "This is the American way," Romney said. "We go where there's trouble. We go where we're needed. And right now we're needed. Right now the American people need us."
Rachel Maddow Wednesday night took issue with Romney's ham-fisted effort to compare Doherty's sacrifice with his own run for office. "Part of the problem is, here, Mr. Romney equating his running for office with the bravery Mr. Doherty had displayed trying to save lives in the armed attack in Benghazi," she said.
Doherty's mother, Barbara, told WHDH 7 that she, too, objected to the use of her son as a campaign prop: "I don't trust Romney. He shouldn't make my son's death part of his political agenda," Barbara Doherty said. "It's wrong to use these brave young men, who wanted freedom for all, to degrade Obama."
In response, Romney's campaign said he'd stop telling the story.
Maddow noted that this is hardly the first time Romney has tried to profit politically from the Libya attacks, recalling his bungled response to the Obama Administration's handling of the attack, while it was still going on.
"Since before the attack was even over in Benghazi," Maddow said. "the Romney campaign has tried and tried and tried to make some political hay out of it, to take political advantage of the fatal attack on the American consulate in Libya. It started before the attack was over, before American deaths had been confirmed there. It has continued with Mr. Romney's efforts to loop into his campaign now one of the Americans killed in that attack, as a sort of unwilling political surrogate after he's died."

I will vote for Romney, although he has his faults, as we all do. ANYONE, and I mean ANYONE has to do a better job than Obummer has done. Can't you all see how he's divided this country??? Used to be party v party, now it's poor v rich, black v white, christian v muslim. The list goes on. I can only think of one really good thing Obummer has done in his 4 yrs. and that was giving the O.K. for our Navy Seals to go get Bin Laden.
Obama is not the one dividing the country, the radical people with Tea Party attitudes are dividing the country. They are promoting extreme prejudice and negativism.

Romney is beyond untrustworthy. He is a man that thinks he is due the presidency.
The Romney family moved to Mexico to practice polygamy. Maybe this is why Romney does not want to discuss his religion. He has profited greatly financially in this country yet he hides his money in off shore accounts. I hope in the next debate Obama jumps on this. In fact many of the 1% do not want to pay any taxes which would contribute to the health of the country. I find that to be immoral. Americans had better wake up and get rid of the greed heads in this election.
I think the mother of that son is due an apology from the Romney campaign. I have doubts that he even ever met that Navy Seal.

I am one person, not Claudia and Steve. I do watch MSNBC. I also watch FOX. I alternate between the two. Now, MSNBC practices Media Bias...and they do not attempt to hide it...as seen with their "LEAN FORWARD" under their logo. I am working on finding out how to get my "REPLY" enabled.
This Navy Seal's best friend had some harsh things to say about Romney, things that the young man himself said-"He kept introducing himself to me", and he also called Romney "Pathetic". Now these are the words of the young man who died in the attack in Lybia, no one is putting words in his mouth. His mother has said she does not trust Romney, and to stop using her son in his campaign speeches. Romney even makes the fact that he will stop doing it, sound like he's doing her a favor! Willard has no empathy for anyone, does not care how this mother feels about how he was using her son to try and score political points; and that shows a very frightening portrait of who Romney really is- A hollow man, a man who does not feel anything- a man who feels he is OWED EVERYTHING! I certainly hope that young man's friend, or even his poor mother will go public and denounce Willard for the lying, scheming, cheater he is.
Just another example of how phenomenally hollow this man is.
You can see how much he knows about serving his country..Oh but he never did...(Vietnam) he went to France as a Missionary for his church, knocking on doors. He will never know what it is like to lose a son in war..he has five sons...none has served.
As a Vet, I can only shrug at Republican thinking. They will send the armed services to war at the drop of a hat, yet, when these young men and women return, they turn their backs on us.

Oh well, We Veterans are used to dealing with this kind of in-action from the 'People' we defended, We went to serve our county and flag because of some internal drive we had. Call it patriotism, Call it a sense of duty, Call it love of our Country. We did not go because we thought we would get some benefit. If people who really cared, demanded that Service men and women and Vets be honored, they would call the House and senate and demand funding for those who serve(d).
