Pakistani children pray for the recovery of 14-year-old schoolgirl Malala Yousufzai during a candlelight vigil in Karachi, Pakistan, Friday.
While 14-year-old Malala Yousafzai remained in the hospital recovering from a gun shot to the head, fellow school children in Pakistan gathered Friday to offer prayers for her recovery.
Yousafzai was targeted and shot by gunmen Tuesday on a school bus in Pakistan under order of the Taliban because of her outspokenness on education for girls and against the Taliban. She had previously blogged for the BBC on these issues under a pseudonym. Three suspects were arrested.
Radio Free Europe reports:
The prayers in schools and other places across Pakistan on October 12 are in response to a call by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provincial government for people around the nation to express solidarity with Yousafzai.
Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf is due to visit Yousafzai on October 12 as the gravely wounded schoolgirl recovers in a military hospital in Rawalpindi.
Prayers were held throughout the country Friday as leaders condemned the attack. A spokesman called Yousafzai's condition "satisfactory," but said the next two days are critical.

I am with them...
She is their heroine. May she recover and lead them forward.
My prayers too.
What is the U.S doing in Afghanistan/Pakistan border for the last 11 years?? What kind of war is this? The Taliban are growing, Pakistan not tough enough, because they are making billions from U.S due to the war in Afghanistan. Bad policies are keeping the Taliban alive.
You would think the with assassination of their popular female premier in Pakistan, and now to have these fundamentalists living in the far Northwestern Provinces coming in to try to assinate this 14 year old female child in their reign of terror that it would steal the reserve of the Pakistani peoples to not just pray, but call on their government to use their resources to smash these bad actors back into the dark ages they wish to return to!
The only way we are going to salvage anything out of our revenge excursion for 9/11 into Afghanistan is to convience the Paks to accept our support and NATO's willingness to go settle the Taliban's hash once and for all. Half assed measures always lead to half assed results, and if we don't squash fundamentalist Islamic jihadists like bugs, they will just keep on fomenting trouble for Christians, Jews, and moderate Muslims alike!
Why is the Taliban/Teaparty so afraid of women making decisions? Anybody?
My heart goes out to her and her family may she be blessed and live to be a stronger fighter for women's rights no women should be shot for her believes
May Malala recover quickly! She is a brave hero. American women who would vote for Romney and Ryan should see the parallel that both the Taliban and the Republicans want complete control over women's bodies and reproductive rights. How can American women trust the Republicans to help women anywhere in the world, when they act like the Taliban?
I really wish an Actress, Activist or Well Known Figure would start a Web Site to accept and Encourage Donations to 14-year-old Malala Yousafzai's College Education... I would do it myself if I had any idea how such a thing is done!
I WILL BE THE FIRST TO DONATE!
Johnny Popp in California...
How can be possible that a young fourteen year old girl would threat this cowards? Malala you are an example to all woman who have strong beliefs and will not be intimidated by coward acts of rage. My heart goes out for you, for all women who cant study in peace to become active in society I hope you beautiful girl come out smiling and stoic after this heinous atrocity!
Thank you so much for the passion and commitment you demonstrated in your segment about Malala Yousafzai.
I have been enormously troubled about her attempted assassination by the Taliban. She is such an amazing young girl, almost woman, who, no matter what the Taliban says or does, has lit a spark in her country that I am confident will not die out. The plight of women, world-wide, is something I feel strongly about and if there is anything other than letting my beliefs and feelings be known, I wish you would point me in the right direction.
Thank you, MHP, you are doing a wonderful job in your show each and every week!
Finally! Maybe I've just missed it, but the question Rula Jebreal posed about the Teaparty's (read "current Republican party's") belief that women making decisions is a bad thing, (JUST AS THE TALIBAN, TOO, BELIEVE), that question has not come up in this election! Why not? Did I just miss it? I've been watching for it, and it seems, to me, to be so evident that I can't believe I'm the only person who sees it.
I think this world view is a piece with the mindset that thinks it is a good thing to actively try to disenfranchise American citizens for political gain, and why these two specific questions haven't made the front page/top of the show of every news cycle is baffling.
What's wrong with me?
